My macbook air is in "safe boot"

my macbook air recently went into "safe boot" after I had restarted the computer. now it will not let me log on & tells me "incorrect password". i've typed the password in over 30 times, shuting it down & restarting it again.. nothing seems to be working.

It sounds like the Shift key is stuck down, that would explain the safe boot as well as bad password.

  • When I turn on my macbook air, it starts to boot and then stops and turns off.  How do I fix this?

When I try to turn my MacBook Air on, it starts to boot (gray screen with Apple logo and the swirling indicator) but then it simply shuts off. I have tried Safe Booting but that doesn't work either.
Does anyone have a suggestion as I really need to get a couple of files off the hard drive.

The progress bar on the apple screen indicates that the machine is attempting to boot to safe mode.
Boot your mac and holds down the Option key to boot to the boot manager.
Once in the boot manager click on macintosh HD and click the arrow to boot, this should boot your machine normally.
    Also perform an SMC/PRAM reset:
    SMC RESET:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    PRAM RESET:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
If these fail, insert your OSX dvd, boot to boot manager, click the disc, reinstall the mac OSX.

  • MacBook Air Kernel Panic after boot

Hi all! Recently, My MacBook Air had been kind of acting up. Everytime when I cold boot it, it would start, then after a few seconds later crash, then a kernel panic would occur after a few seconds. This happens recurringly and I do not know what is the cause of the problem. It seems that this would only happen after a long period inbetween the first boot and the next boot.
Answays, here is my crashlog for reference:

Please help me solve my problem! This has only happened recently after my update to Mavericks.

Any or all of the following third-party system modifications may be contributing to the problem:
    Hamachi
    Elmedia Player
    Razer mouse driver
If the panic is recurrent, I suggest you check that all are up to date, and if they are, uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can determine which is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
Back up all data before making any changes.

  • Macbook Air July 2013 freezes (Boot camp Win 7 Pro)

    Hi all,
Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue? I am running win 7 pro 64bit sp1 with the latest boot camp drivers (updated via osx boot camp utiliy a few days ago) and all windows updated up to date. Everything works fine and has installed, but at least once every day the whole computer just freezes up and becomes non responsive. All I can do is power it off and do a hard reset. This is on a brand new July 2013 Macbook Air 13" with a 512gb PCIe Samsung SSD.
I have taken it into Apple to take a look at, but they refuse to acknowledge the problem saying it is a software issue with Windows. They did their diag tests in-store and everything came up ok. But the funny thing is, the laptop still freezes every day! And all the errors point to a hardware issue.
Anyway, I did a bit of googling and from the sounds of it it is most likely a faulty motherboard/controller chip. I just wanted to hear from others out there if they were able to fix it any other way other than getting a replacement laptop? Are there any diag tools that I can run to see if the SSD controller is faulty?
Here are the errors I keep getting
    Event ID 11
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR3
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR6
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR5
Some other errors which I think could be related
taskhost (2744) WebCacheLocal: A request to write to the file "xx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache\V01.log" at offset 184320 (0x000000000002d000) for 151552 (0x00025000) bytes succeeded, but took an abnormally long time (2451 seconds) to be serviced by the OS. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem.
The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\ACPI0008\4&1df6a035&0.

I don't think that PCIe which is only Samsung device would use any other NAND.
I do think Apple is responsible to provide drivers and enable AHCI mode for it to function properly.
Was concerned that too many people give far too little space to Windows partition. And that they don't set aside the 11% that Samsung Magician would recommend setting if it could.
I first read about the MBA and its new SSDs here:
2013 MacBook Air Disassembled and Benched - Samsung 256GB PCIe SSD ...
    And Samsung PR:
    http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/news-events/press-releases/ detail?newsId=12921
    > Samsung started providing the new SSD to major notebook PC makers earlier this quarter. The XP941 lineup consists of 512, 256 and 128GB SSDs.
So no matter what size it is still going to be Samsung NAND all the way through.
PCI Express-based SSDs for Ultrabooks, then. The new XP941 series uses PCIe's wider data path to read at nearly 1.4GB/s
    http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/17/samsung-makes-first-pcie-based-ssd-for-ultrab ooks/
So maybe searches on "XP941" can help turn up tips from around the net.

  • MacBook Air 11" won't boot, just white screen

So I have an 11" MacBook Air, and one day it randomly just wouldn't boot, it just stayed white. I tried to do it manually by holding the alt key while booting. When it was supposed to show the operating, nothing was there but the wifi connectivity bar.
Recently, our power went out in our house for about a day, and through the entire time it was plugged in unused. I didn't turn it on or take it out because the power was out and I had finite using time (plus router was down to)
Could the hard drive have been fried?
And is there way to get it back. Frankly I don't care about getting my files back, I just want to be able to use it again, even if from a fresh version of Mountain Lion

Holding down the Option key when booting theoretically will prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
Startup Manager: How to select a startup volume
When you post for help, please state which OS X is installed.
If you aren't sure, click About this Mac from your Apple menu 
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.

  • MacBook Air shuts down during boot

My Macbook Air (OS X Yosemite - Early 2014) automatically shuts down during boot, with the screen flashes during the loading bar at 40% and then shuts down. I've tried to reboot many times but it wouldn't get past the 40% on the loading bar.
I've also tried the following but none worked:
The Apple Hardware Test shows that "There may be an issue with a memory module." (PPM002, PPM003, PPM004) - though I've checked that the reference code and the definition doesn't match, as "There may be an issue with a memory module." should be PPM001, and PPM002-PPM015 should be "There may be an issue with the onboard memory.". I've sent this message to Apple and they'd only provided the option to visit their retail store.
Also, the Recovery Mode isn't much help either. As do not have a backup of my HD, I'm not able to restore from Time Machine Backup.
So, I've tried to reinstall OS X Yosemite, but it says "Unavailable to install OS X". A website online says that you can resolve this issue by correcting the date through terminal, but the basic menu bar won't appear, in which I'm not able to access Terminal during the Recovery Mode.
Therefore, I've also tried the Disk Utility, which it shows it can't be repaired, with the following messages: Invalid Node Structure (4, 57963), and 2 messages regarding the Invalid Extent Entry (4, 47013) and (4, 40808). The Single User Mode with the command fsck -fy yields the same message.
Is there any other options then to visit the Apple Retail Store?

      Invalid node structure
I'm pretty sure you need more then Disk Utility to repair the drive.
    http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/index.html
Assuming you have Snow Leopard installed, you can try reinstalling the Mac OS but you'll have to do this from another Mac.

  • Macbook constantly starting in Safe Boot

Macbook Pro, External display (Samsung sync master t22b350) Apple Wireless Keyboard, Usb wired mouse, genuine Apple HDMI cable.
Macbook pro constantly starting in safe boot until rebooted. tried a reinstall of everything fresh with it happening more frequently. Any ideas?
Only other peripherals are wireless printer and apple TV so dont think anything is conflicting.

First, reset the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 This will reset boot parameters to default settings, so OS X should start into normal mode after resetting the PRAM.
If it doesn't work, open Terminal and type:
    sudo nvram -d boot-args

  • Macbook wont startup or safe boot

I'm getting the blue screen and its staying there after the apple logo goes away. Can't start up or safe boot, but I can boot from a Leopard disc. I dont have disc warrior so thats not really an option. Did disk repair, and permission repair. No good. Any ideas how I can fix this? Its recommended that I wont lose my current data.
I deleted my batteryupdate bundle to update it to 1.2, but the software update on the Leopard wont restart normally after the installation, so I manually it shut it down and started it up. Since then, my macbook wont start up.
Thanks in advance for the help.

If DU pronounced the drive as OK, but you still cannot startup, then you have damaged system files. An Archive and Install should solve the problem:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • My macbook air 11 " ask for "boot disk"

My macbook air shows on the screen: "no bootable device---insert boot disk and press any key"
Can you help me with this question??
Because I dont have ANY BOOT DISK

The way a guy from the Genius bar explained it to me is that there should be a separate partition that includes the files previously seen on the USB drive.
When starting your computer, hold option (alt) and see if you can choose this partition that  I am referring to.

  • My Macbook Air A1369 Will Not Boot Up, Any Suggestions??

The problem with my Macbook Air is that the light on the charger turns Green for 5 seconds when first plugged in, then goes Amber. After an hour or so it turns Green again.  I just bought this used from a third party and now it has taken a dump.
It is a 2010 Macbook Air A1369.  I know that the battery has well lived out it's cycle life and I was about to replace it when this happened.  The notebook was acting funny about a day ago and it would not sleep, when I noticed this I thought okay the battery is really taking a dump so I got the new battery for it and swapped it out but nothing.  So I disconnected the battery and left it plugged into the adapter directly and attempted to reset the SMC but guess what... Yup, Nothing.  I am wondering if I attempt to short the logic board to give it a jump will that make a difference?  I have done it with numerous Windows based Machines and that brings the unit back to life.
Any suggestions?  Could it be the keyboard went out?
I really do appreciate the help guys!
    Happy New Years!
    Phil

    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
    Best.

  • My MacBook Air turns off while booting

Last night I installed a heavy software on my Mac but still had 11GB free on hard drive. However while working it just crashed and stopped working. Then I turned it off and on again, but everytime it in booting when the Apple logo appears it was keep loading, even for 20 mins.  So I treid to load recovery and tried all opriones. But each one does not work for different reasons.
First one is recovery from back up, as I dont have any backup so I cant use it.
Installing new OS also does not work as I does not let me to choose a drive. Keep saying Macintosh HD is locked.
Also for Disk Uitility, when I choose the Macintosh HD, it gives error while verifying the Disk and also ends up with error when repairing.
And now whenever i turn it on, it just turns of when the apple logo appears.
I have not tried safe mode yet, as I dont know how to do it.
    Any idea? :/
Is there anyway to copy my files before I format the drive or any way?

The MBA bought new? Then you have warrantee.
You should be able to start while holding the Alt(option) key for the Boot menu: HDD, RecoveryDisk.
And start while holding the Shift key for the Safe mode.
    Do the SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Do it twice or even three times.
When you can then boot into the safe mode, do that, then shutdown and do the PRAM reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
When the system then still misbehaves, go the Apple, make an appointment and have them look at it.

  • My macbook air 11 inch wont boot up. it is fully charge.  it was working last year.  what happen

    help please

What happens when it tried to boot? Is there any screen display? If there is but it won't boot from the internal SSD, then I'd boot from the USB key and try to repair the SSD. If that doesn't work then I'd try to reinstall the OS.
If you are not getting any display any display I'd consider taking it to a local Apple Store to be looked at. It would still be under warranty.

  • Macbook Air Hang after normal boot.

my MBA is year end 2011 version 10.6.8. it boots normally to desktop. Once in desktop it will hang. hang for about 2 to 5 minutes before when back normal. You cant click or do anything for about 2- 5 minutes. Pls advise. TQ

When your drive is corrupted to the extent that Disk Utility cannot repair there are two basic possibilities: 1) the computer is being force quit and/or shut down improperly or 2) the hard drive is failing.
Now that you've done a clean install and presumably got the MBA running okay again I suggest that you pay attention to how many times (if any) you get a kernel panic (the dark screen with the message to restart your computer in lots of languages) or the computer freezes and you have to hold down the power button until the computer shuts down. Also, run Disk Utility once or twice a week and click on the Verify Disk button (not verify disk permissions) to check the drive's health. While you have Disk Utility open, click on the hard drive and check the S.M.A.R.T. Status. If it fails, you know the drive is going bad. The problem with SMART is that it often doesn't report fail when the drive is going bad so it isn't perfect.
