My macbook air is the 1st generation. On switching on, it turns on and off by itself

When I switch on, screen is white with the cogwheel turning. Not sure what to do. thanks

What beeping sequence are you getting?
1 beep - No RAM
2 beep - Incompatible RAM
3 beep - Faulty RAM
4 beep - No good boot image in ROM
5 beep - Failed processor
With an Air you will have to take it to an Apple store genius bar to address any of those issues.

After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:

Got it! Thanx.  What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed.

    First dry the iPod.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My Galaxy 4 keeps turning on and off by itself and the battery gets pretty warm

I have a Galaxy S4 and it keeps turning on and off by itself.  As well the battery usage is pretty quick and the battery keeps getting pretty warm.  Any thoughts.

Thanks to all of you for your input. Fortunately, for me, the phone was still under warranty so there's no expense to me.  However, during the course of my conversation with the Tier 2 tech, it was mentioned that a recent update MAY have been the problem.  But after doing a refresh, the problem continued with the phone turning on and off all by itself.  That was the whole problem.  But, the battery life went down dramatically within a few hours after it had been charged all night.  I was told that this was due to the phone cycling and off.  As well, even the safe mode didn't solve the problem that would allow me to use the phone without being able to use the apps.  I had pulled the battery to let it set for a while but with no success.  I also pulled the SIM card before they refreshed the update but, still no go.  Anyhow, the end result was that the Tech that I was talking to then transferred me to another Tech -- I guess someone a little higher up -- and I was then informed that they were going to send me another phone.  I don't recall that anyone placed the blame on Samsung or Verizon.  So, there ya go.  Thanks again.

  • Movie quality on MacBook Air vs. 1st Generation iPad

I have a pre-retina display MacBook Air and a first generation (pre-retina display) iPad.  Does anyone have a view/experience on whether iTunes movie rentals will look better on one vs. the other?

    Hi tara,
I have both a Macbook Air and an iPad. If you decide to get the iPad, were you planning on also getting a separate keyboard to use with it? Although the keyboard on the iPad works great, it is a much slower process to key things in via the on-screen keyboard than it is with an actual keyboard. So, there's that.
I am also a long-time user of Word and Excel, and so, I find Pages and Numbers hard to work with (probably because I don't want to invest the effor to learn a different way to word process and create spreadsheets). So, depending on the apps your kids would want to be using, that would have to be taken into consideration. I can run Word and Excel on my Macbook air - not on my iPad.
The Air is extremely portable, but, of course, the iPad is even more so.
Neither device has a CD/DVD drive built into the device.
I find that internet works much better and faster on my Air than on my iPad, but that may be because I use Firefox on my Air, and Safari on my iPad. I'm not a big fan of Safari (nor of Explorer). I used to do all of my internet searches on my iPad, but the response time became so slow that once I got my Air, I pretty much stoppped doing any more than the occasional search on my iPad.
I love both of them! I use my iPad for reading, photos to tote around, music, and watching videos. The resolution (even on my iPad 1) is incredible! I also use my iPad to do artwork (Brushes application) and photo editing via Snapseed. I use my Air for Internet stuff, Apple Support stuff, visiting Pottermore (which is not totally functional on my iPad since it uses Flash Player), photo editing, and serious word processing and spreadsheet creation.
So, that's my experience with both of them. Hope my feedback helped!
    Good luck with your decision!
    Cheers,

  • My MacBook Air over the past 24 hours has been freezing in safari and now when I try to open safari the entire laptop freezes and I have to force a restart and can't open safari. What does that mean?

I'm not really sure what's happening. Sometimes everything will be fine and then other times it's the rainbow wheel of death.

That toolbar/ct plugin seems to cause problems for all who install it!
If you are running Tiger or Leopard:
Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
where / is the root library on your Hard Disk.
If you are running Snow Leopard you should also look here:
    Library/launchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
    Library/Application support/conduit plugins
    Also, as mentioned by Gilli2000:
Library/Receipts - If you read it, it has information in it at the bottom referring extensively to "CT" and "community toolbar".
Maybe it is harmless, but trash those items anyway!
    If you are running Lion:
From the Finder Menu bar, select Go ▹ Go to Folder, and in the box that opens write:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Conduit
Delete the second item if it is there.
Now select Go to Folder again and enter  /Library
From the folder that opens, delete the following items if they are there (you may need your login password):
    Application Support/Conduit
    InputManagers/CTLoader
    LaunchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/ct_scripting.osax
then close the folder. Now select Go to Folder again and write: /Applications/Toolbars
Delete that item and close the Finder windows you opened. Log out then log back in, and you should be rid of it.
Note: Safari does not support any third-party toolbars except those supplied as an extension to Safari via the Extension Gallery.

  • Ios 3.1.1 will not download for the 1st generation ipod touch

Why won't ios 3.1.1 download for the 1st generation ipod touch?  It will start and then a second later stop.

Does it happen with the apps that came with the iPod?
Does it happen with all apps you have downloaded/installed?
Have you ried deleting the apps and redownload/install the apps?  You will not be charged again if you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.
Next would be to restore from backup
Last would be to restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Can I return my MacBook Air past the return date?

Hi, I have a question that I've been googling but I haven't been able to find an answer to anywhere. Can I return a MacBook Air past the return date to an Apple store if it is still in shrink-wrap and I have a receipt? Thanks.

I would think you cannot return a product after the return date has passed.
Call the Apple Store and ask them.

  • How to delete data from hard disk before returning Macbook Air to the store

I need to return a recently purchased Macbook Air to the store. How do I delete all data from the hard drive before I return the notebook?

Ahh, you want to WIPE the entire drive,.....command R on startup, disk utilities....select MacIntosh HD,......ERASE it format it in MAC OSX extended journaled.
after than, you can do a wifi or ethernet reinstall to factory OUT OF BOX new condition.    Usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours if you have a descent fast www connection.

  • How do i copy content from one hard rive to another through my macbook air? the copy and paste option doesn't work

How do i copy content from one hard rive to another through my macbook air? the copy and paste option doesn't work

It's because of the extension of the hard drive is a Windows extension ( most likely MSDOS or Ex-FAT), meaning you can only read but not write. If there are no important files (or you can copy the whole thing to your computer/mac) you can just reformat the hard drive and change the extension to NTFS (readable and writable on both windows and mac) or Mac OS Extended (readable and writable on Mac, readable on windows).
    Go to DISK UTILITY
Choose the Hard Disk you intended
    ERASE
    You can choose either
(I personally prefer this one, you know just in case)
