Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
with OS X.
3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows. The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

I just downloaded the Windows Migrator and tryed to open it. A window popped up saying "YOU CANT OPEN THE APPLICATION BECAUSE MICROSOFT APPLICATIONS ARE NOT SUPPORTED ON OS X". How do i transfer my files?
An .exe application is compiled for Windows. It will not run on a different OS. If you need to run this program, then you will have to install Windows on your Mac. Either as a separate bootable partition, or running in a virtual machine, such as Parallels or VMWare.

I have a Google calendar that is syncing with my iPad and on my MacBook Air. However, the calendar items are not showing up when I access iCloud via the Internet. Any suggestions?
On the iPad tap Settings > iCloud
Toggle Documents & Data off then back on then restart your iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
On the iMac open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Documents & Data then reselect it then restart your iMac. -
"earlier versions of windows are not supported boot camp" with bootcamp 5.1.2

I have a problem about installing window 8.0 pro 64-bit with bootcamp ( v5.1.2 ). When I finished setting up, Bootcamp shows me a message as " earlier versions of windows are not supported boot camp " although I'm using bootcamp with 5.1.2 version. How can I resolve it ? My mac is mgxa2 mid 2014.

According to "Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Supports" If I use bootcamp version equal or greater than 5, so I can do it. But my current bootcamp likes that. So why not ? . In the first time I set up though bootcamp , it's good but now it always shows that message . -
Microsoft apps are not supported by Lion?
Is it true microsoft apps are not supported by Lion? I just upgraded and now I'm getting a message my microsoft apps are no longer available. Any upgrades to bring them online?
You have Office 2004 and that won't run on Lion. You have three options:
1. Upgrade to Office 2008 or 2011
2. Download the free Office suite Libreoffice
3. Buy Apple's 'Numbers' (for spreadsheets), 'Keynote' (for Powerpoint) and/or 'Pages' (for word processing) programs from the App store.
A fourth option would be to revert to Snow Leopard. -
hello..when I download attachments from any email..iPages opens and says some features are not supported and cuts out photos and lengthens my attachments
What format are the attachments? If Pages will not display them properly you will need an application that does. Pages usually opens word documents but can give problems at times, if they are MS Word documents, try Libre Office or failing that you may have to purchase MS Word for Mac, maybe you will need to buy the complete Office suite.
The other possiblity is that you already have a suitable application and Pages is loading the file by default, if so change the default application to open that file type. -

Dock - The same thing is "sorta" happening with a belkin charger that I have. It'll say that charging is not supported wij this accessory, and I can't use the Belkin cord any longer. I have to use my apple one. I think that means that the dock software is now "outdated" and can't charge your iPod anymore. -
MacBook Air keeps reopening the same windows
My MacBook Air (Mid 2012) keeps reopening last night's windows and apps. I close the applications and launch new applications and even add new apps to the dock but it ignores and removes these changes and launches the last night's windows when I restart. I appreciate if anyone know what's going on. Thanks

My ipod touch 4g 5.0.1 will not connect to tv, will not display picture. Also keep getting a message sayin this accesory is not supported with ipod touch. How do i get this to work and stop getting this message? Please help.
- What cable re you using? Digitasl, VGA, composit, componet and who made it?
- TV out only works with apps that support it. It does not morror the iPod's screen

The hdmi adapter no longer works, and I tried it on different tv, different hdmi cables, apple's adapter still don't work. My iOS is 5.1 by the way. HDMI cables work fine for other devices, connect it to my computer, works fine, connect it to dvd player works fine. So what is going APPLE? I splashed out SGD59 for this handy adapter, and it no longer works after a month!!!

My Macbook air keeps getting a message saying that the startup disk is full. I don't have picture, music, or movies on it. Im not sure whats wrong with it.
The first step is to check and see how much space really is there. From the desktop right click on the drive in the upper right corner (at least it's there by default) and select "Get Info" to see how much space it reports as free.
It's not just media files that eat up disk space, though they are often a major contributor. Do you happen to be running one of the virtual machine programs (Parallels or VMWare Fusion)? When you create a guest drive there you normally have a fairly decent amount of disk space dedicated to it and that can fill the drive.
As well, a quick fix that may buy you some time is to empty the trash if you've not done so recently. Click on the trash folder in your dock and then in the window that comes up select the option to empty the trash.
If you can free up some space, there are programs that will help you find what files and directories are using disk space. I've used Space Gremlin (in the App store) for that sort of thing, though there others. If you run that sort of utlity you'll get some idea about what is really eating up the drive space.
