My MacBook Air keeps randomly turning off but they keyboard is still lit.

I'll be doing work on my MacBook Air that I only got a month or so ago.  and the screen with suddenly turn black. The laptop isn't off as the keyboard is still lit. It is fully charged and plugged in. I have pressed all the buttons but it still won't turn on. I have to press and hold the On/off Button to restart the whole computer.  This makes me lose my work. Any ideas?

Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
Release the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.

Yes I have turned imessage off a number of times and that does not seem to he doing the trick, and it is not delivering them then I have to press on the photo and either chose try again or send as text message, I have had the setting on to not allow sending pictures as texts (so they can only send as imessage) since I got my phone in January and it has always worked until now, I have turned that off to allow me to send them as picture messages now but it's still not working over iMessage, I have also tried it using 3G and not wifi

Snap to points are turned off but they still keep snapping to. WANT THEM OFF!! How do I do this? I've gone into preferences and view, turned off the snap to and it still happens. So when I scale. the points snap to and mess up my line quality.
Please, anyone know how to fix this?

    Jason,
In cases like this, the first guess is Align to Pixel Grid.
You may select everything and then untick Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform palette, and also untick Align New Objects to Pixel Grid in the flyout options.
You may avoid document types with that as default (RGB for web and the like) or change the default for such documents.

  • My macbook keeps randomly turning off.

My macbook keeps randomly shutting off. It is no longer under warranty. I've read all of these discussions from people with similar issues and I've tried some of the things that seemed logical. it's a late 2007 MacBook. I bought it used from a friend and they never had this issue. It was wiped clean and when I got it, after about 5 LONG uses, it randomly shut down once. I installed Snow Leopard, updated to 10.6.8, then the problem started. The fan seems to be running fine. The problem occurs weather it's plugged in or not, so I'm pretty positive it's not the battery. I've done the PRAM reset and the SMC reset.. I also took the computer apart and cleaned it. Performed the SMC reset again and it seems to be working for right now. Hopefully that's all it needed but if the problem continues does anyone have any suggestions on what it may be? Thanks.

  • Why does my macbook keep randomly turning off ?

Hello everyone I am new to the forums. I have a mid-2010 macbook pro that I purchased brand new in January 2011. Last September I noticed that my battery kept dying extremely quick and that it had the condition to replace now. Me trying to take the cheap way out I decided to purchase the battery myself and install it since I am not under the applecare warranty and apple quoted me for about $300 - $500 I believe to do it. The first week or so after I changed the battery my laptop was back to normal. Since then it randomly turns off, still says the battery needs to be replaced now, and also sometimes my battery percentage shows 0% and charging. I really want to know what's wrong with it..Thanks in advance for the help!

    Have you reset the SMC?

  • My macbook air won't turn on but then sometimes it turns on by itself

My macbook air 2013 purchased 5 months ago has been experiencing a very strange set of circumstances of late.  Regularly after going to sleep or being powered off it will not start up again. I have done many SMC resets and Pram Resets to no effect.  This issue occured about a month ago in colombia where I had it repaired twice at authorized repair centres.  The first time they disconnected the battery and reconnected it.  * hours later i brought it back and 2 weeks later they had updated the firmware.  That resolved the issue for about a month until these last three days when each morning, whether it had been sleeping or powered off it will not turn on no matter what type of power on i do.  There is no sign of life.
Here's where it gets weird.  For the past three days it has powered on without me touching it, at random and different times each day, after at least a few hours of failing to do so.  Also, as of last night My charger light will only turn on while the computer is powered off.  However the AC power still reads as connected and the computer runs off the AC power not draining the battery but not charging it either.  Is my computer haunted?
The issue began with mavericks, but after the first time it powered on by itself three days ago I followed apple supports suggestions and upgraded to Yosemite the 10.10 version.
I have copied in the system report under the power settings at the bottom of this post and if anyone has any idea please let me know, I have a case open with apple but so far no answers have been found.
Also I have decided to try something today by scheduling a power on/ wake up for 9:00 am tomorrow, we will see if this will work.
For those who would suggest I go to an apple store that is not possible as I am in Ecuador and remaining in South america for the next two years.  I can take it to an authorized repair center but am hesitant to wait another 10 days when the fix may not work, like the last few times in Colombia.  Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro keep randomly shutting off with or without the adapter?

I had this problem before that my 13-inch Macbook Pro would stop working without the plug, and then it started resetting its clock to 2000 every time i rebooted it until it eventually died altogether. I found out that my data cable was bad and got it replaced.
Now, it works completely fine except that it will randomly shut off without warning, even if it's plugged in.
I don't know if it means anything, but I'm currently using a Macbook Air adapter.
It's actually shut off while I was typing this post. Incredibly frustrating.

I think (let others bust my chops if I'm wrong) that the MBA uses a 60W MagSafe Power Adapter, whereas the MBP uses an 85W MagSafe Power Adapter. That could be causing problems.

  • MacBook Air does not turn on but does this damage it's hard drive ? Can I still save/ recover videos and photos from photo stream?

My MacBook Air was put on sleep mode and a couple of hours later I attempted to turn it on and no response. I called apple support and went through the process to try to power it back on and it would not turn on . Nothing would show on the screen and I heard nothing coming from my MacBook Air .
Is this because it overheated ? does this have to do with where it was charging and placed ? or is this because of battery/ power problems ?
I had no choice but to take it to the apple store for repair . Does anyone know if when this happens it ruins my hard drive ?? is all data lost ?
I have my sons memorable photo and videos on photo stream ? How can I recover that if it would turn on ? it is photo streaming with iPhone but only limited and no videos .. Can I get transferred/ photo streamed to windows computer?
Please help ..any ideas what went wrong and how to save my memorable home videos an photos of my son ?
    Greatly appreciated

Well on the Air models there really isn't a traditional hard drive, it is a SSD/Flash drive that is integral to the system and can't really be removed or connected to another Mac for retrieving of files. So yes if you take it in and they have to replace the Logic board, The Hart Of the System, then more then likely all your files will be gone.
That is one reason Apple includes Time Machine for Backing Up the system including your files. If you never used Time Machione then eventually, At Some Point In Time, you will Lose all your data. That is a fact of all computers.

  • My Macbook Air 13 inch turns off after i turn it on

My New 2013 Macbook Air will turn off approx. 5 seconds after i turn it on, I will use the track pad immediately after turning it on and i will be scrolling and bam it will go into sleep mode

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 If this problem is related to software, this should fix this problem.
If it doesn't work and you can start your computer, open System Information or System Profiler (it's in /Applications/Utilities), choose Power in the sidebar, and copy here "Charge Information" and "Health Information".
If you can't start the MacBoook, the only thing you can do is to take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller

  • Airport keeps randomly turning off and wont turn back on!

    Hey guys,
I've had this problem for a while now and it is driving me CRAZY!
I will be randomly surfing the net, and then all of a sudden airport will turn off! (the shape you get when you click turn off airport - not how it looks like when there is no connection)
So when I click on "turn airport on" but nothing happens! Almost like its not clickable.
I've surfed online and tried multiple things. from just restarting (which works but then it will disconnect another time) to Deleting airport completely, restarting, and reinstalling airport. This works but then 5 days later it will mess up again. (But now its started becoming once-twice a day!)
Yesterday I updated all of the wifi software updates and updated my mac update from 10.5.5 to 10.5.8, hoping this might be the problem, but it disconnected again!
I've also tried taking the battery out etc.. but nothing works!!!
    any suggestions?!
    Zahra

My daughter is having the same problem. She tells me it started from day one but so sublte she didn't think it was a software/hardware problem ( how could be its a brand new computer right) , and we bought it for her in 2008. The interruptions were not as often, and she didn't know it as well as she does now. She thought it had to do with our internet at home, and when she went to college it stopped. Inside the school network it doesn't fail, but this year she moved outside of campus and the problem has become a nuisance, like Zahra says, it's driving her crazy now. She went to apple store and of course the problem did not happen there. So they could not help her. They told her to delete all software and re-install, and so she did, but the first thing it did after that was turn off. It kicks her out of internet continuously, and the ariport light or signal turn off. The next step it was suggested was to replace airport for 175$ for the whole repair, and if it's not fixed they will refund, but what after that.
I read somewhere that security updating can cause these problems as well as others regarding non authorized changes in system preference network settings. Not sure if it was related to a problem with a bad airport specifically, but it does with connectivity issues and interruptions.
I think my daughter also updated from OS X 10.5.5 to 10.5.8, and her book is 2 years old. If someone can help Zahra, maybe you can help us too. Thank you.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

Try ooting into your Mavericks Recovery partition - by holding down the command and R keys shilst booting.
Once at the Recovery screen, open Disk Utility, slect your hard drive icon on the left of the screen (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you'e renamed it) and click on the "Verify" button. If you get green text telling you that everything seems to be O.K., just reboot. If you get red text telling you that the drive needs to be repaired, click on the "Repair" button. If repair is successful, you should be able to bott normally.
    Call back with results.
