My MacBook Air keyboard freezes, very interesting.
I have a MacBook Air (2010, Oct.) 13" which has keyboard problem.
Sometimes, keyboards attatched to my Mac - includes USB Mac keyboard - freezes and doesn't respond.
Mices? They work well.
It's interesting because when the problem occurs, function keys and specific keys like 'control', 'option' are still alive!
So I can still move around between spaces by 'control + number', but in this case, there's another problem.
The 'Spaces indicator' sticks on the screen and never disappear.
These problems occur almost every time when I'm running Parallels Desktop 6, and rarely occurs even I don't run PD6.
And once it occur, the problem last until I reboot.
Complete re-install of MacOS X could not be the cure.
How can I solve this problem?

My MacBook Air is freezing regularly
My wife's MacBook Air is freezing regularly. I reinstalled Mavericks from the Restore (cmd R). I first erased the hard disk in Disk Utility and then reinstalled Mavericks. Then I restored from a Time Machine backup. It was okay for about a week or two, but then it began freezing a lot, about 2-3 times a day. My wife has to hold down the power button for several seconds and restart and then get back to work. It's a mid 2011 model with 4 GB of RAM, 256 GB HD and 1.8GHz.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful. -
My Macbook air keeps freezing and the trackpad won't move?
My Macbook air keeps freezing on me! Today, i was watching a show and all of a sudden it froze, the sound kept stopping and the trackpad mouse wouldn't move. I waited a minute but it didn't restart so i force a shutdown and now it seems fine. I've had 3 in the last 2 months and i'm worried. I still have my one year warrenty so i'm going to call apple but what is going on? When i check the consoul it said i had a kernal panic, i posted some of the log below. For reference, my Macbook air is 2012 model, 4GB ram, 128GB SSD hard drive.

2. Remove the battery from the BlackBerry. Do not re-insert.
3. Connect the BlackBerry to the computer.
4. On the BlackBerry Desktop Manager main screen, click Application Loader.
5. Click Start.
6. Click Options to select applications to be installed.
7. Click Next.
8. Click Next.
9. Click Finish.
10. When the application load starts, re-insert the battery into the BlackBerry. -
Macbook Air Microphone Volume Very Low
I've had a few Facetime, Google+ Hangout, and Skype sessions with verious people and a common complaint is that the mic volume on my 2011 Macbook Air 13 is very low despite the gain being turned all the way up. I found a thread where other people are experiencing this same issue. I was hoping to get some feedback from others to see how common this issue is. It would be interesting to see if it is in fact an issue with all Macbook Air's and could possibly be a driver or design issue.

Looked at system preferences and slid slider all way to max... still not enough volume. I had to put my head to the side within a few inches of microphone before the sound sort of was loud enough. Tried ambient off/on and worse when had it off.
Just tested the sound with my niece's boyfriend new 11" model (he got about 1 week ago). Input volume on his unit is ideal. Sounds great. So not likely an Lion issue... likely something with my unit (and others based on this post and others).
I have yet to find any solution on the forum or support area, so will call Apple tomorrow or visit store to see if they can resolve the problem. -

After you go to system preferences/keyboard/input sources as suggested by sberman, click on the + button and scroll down to Portuguese and select that. Over at the right you will see the choices Brazilian, Brazilian abnt, Portuguese. You might want to add all three to see which you like best.
The "Brazilian" layout is pretty useless. It is identical to the US layout and the only way to make accents is via the option key shortcuts: option + n, then o gives you õ.
The Brazilian abnt and Portuguese layouts have dead keys for adding accents over at the right edge of the keyboard. But these may not match what is printed on your keys.
You may prefer to stay with the US layout. On that you can get accented letters by just holding down the base letter and selecting what you want from the popup menu that appears. Or you can use the option key shortcuts.
Another option is the layout called US International PC, which has accent deadkeys on ~, ', etc.
Which ever layout you want to use, you must select it in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen.

Macbook air completely freezes
For more than 2 years, I have had a problem with my MacBook Air totally freezing. The clock stops advancing, mouse won't move, and the only way out is to hold the power button down for a full shutdown. This problem has persisted through several updates of the OS. Sometimes it happens even when no programs are running, and the computer is just sitting. It does seem to happen more often when I am running Parallels Desktop, but other than that, there is nothing consistent I have been able to discern in what causes this to happen.
Does anyone have a clue what is causing this or how to cure it?Hi there. I'm not using any 3rd party screen saver software, only the standard Mountain Lion supplied stuff.
I did have to get the Genuis Guys to reset my SMC as my battery, fan & power lead were showing problems. Those issues are now solved but this has persisted.
I am considering a reinstal of the OS system but that is a 1 hour download following by ?? hours of waiting for the program to restart.
I'll try using one of the other screen saver options to test that.

My MacBook Air keyboard has become raised and spacebar is not working!
My sons MacBook Air Keyboard has become raised/warped. The centre point of the raised area is the top left hand corner of the trackpad. I would say the highest point is 2 to 3mm above the normal surface line.
The first signs of the problem was an inconsistency in the spacebar operation. Now the spacebar fails to operate at all! Apart from the Spacebar the Air seems to perform all other functions normally.
The raised area /warped area has also created a wobble when the MacBook Air is on a flat surface.

Thank you for taking the time to read my issue and hopefully provide some guidance!!If your Air came with Lion pre-installed you might find it a bit complicated to downgrade. In any event the battery should be replaced under warranty. [My 17" battery was replaced by Apple at the Genius Bar even though the year warranty had expired; they were genuinely concerned since there was a safety issue concerning power!] On the point about your 3 Lion concerns, I note that many on this forum have dealt with similar issues. In my case I purchased a new machine with Lion rather than upgrade my existing Snow Leopard MacBook Pro 13" or iMac 27" and have found there to be no troubles whatsoever. I enjoy the speedy response and smooth execution of tasks on 10.7.2. Good luck with your battery issue.

How much does it cost to replace a Macbook Air keyboard? And what components does the replacement include?
I had two fans replaced in 2012 on my 2006 MacBook Pro were around £10 each with labor at £20. I don't know that these prices are still viable, but it may give you an estimate.

I have to press the power button for over 10 secs to shut down the computer. However it freezes after restarting with the same open programs/pages. I have re-installed OS with no success. I have noticed that the computer works for a bit after closing the lid on the computer and letting it alone for some time. But then I only have a few minutes. Any ideas on what may be wrong with it?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

Mid 2013 macbook air keyboard/trackpad stop responding
I have a mid-2013 13" Macbook Air - 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM - 1.7Ghz i7
I spend a good deal of time working at my home, where I have two external monitors (one via USB, one via the thunderbolt port) and a bluetooth wireless mouse and keyboard. Things are great.
I also go on the road, and when I do, I simply unplug my monitors, close the lid, and go.

Here's what happens....when I'm traveling and away from my bluetooth keyboard/mouse, I will open up my MBA and the trackpad and internal keyboard are unresponsive. I can press the power button and get it to turn off...power it back on and am able to use the keyboard to control various boot options (diagnostics, single-user, safe-mode, recovery model, etc). Booting up full, however, the issue will still exist. Looking at the console log, when this is happening, there are a ton (about 4000 every minute) of the following :

Eventually, something happens and things start to work -- I will generally see the following in the console log when it starts working:
11/1/13 7:45:27.000 PM kernel[0]: Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad::start Start Succeeded
If I let the machine sit at the unlock screen, eventually a dialog comes up and says "unable to find external bluetooth keyboard/mouse..." It says it will continue to search and will pair with one eventually....it's the same message I would get from my mac mini if it couldn't find the bluetooth keyboard (and has no internal/hardwired keyboard).
When it is happening, I can use "cmd-r" to boot into recovery mode and recovery mode will complain about not having a mouse/trackpad - yet the keyboard seems to work to control what happens at boot time.
I called Apple and got sent to the apple store with a "it sounds like a faulty logic board or a connection that needs soldering". The Apple Store "genius" didn't quite think that was the case and has instead suggested I re-install the operating system. I'm non-plussed by both suggestions. This has happened both before and after Mavericks...
On one of my latest trips, I had a case where I took my laptop out on the plane to try to use it...only to have this issue occur. I landed, got to the hotel, tried again and everything worked fine. Went to dinner - leaving my laptop on the desk plugged in - only to come back to have the keyboard unresponsive.... I've now resorted to traveling with my bluetooth keyboard and mouse "just in case".

Do four things to test for fault on this,
reset SMC ,
reset NVRAM,
uncheck "put hard disks to sleep"
and UNPAIR both your bluetooth mouse and keyboard from this Mac that you are using with it currently.
yes, the notion that your logic board is at fault is extremely unlikely, additionally (though far more likely) that your Mavericks OS is corrupt.
RESET SMC
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
RESET NVRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Lastly, go into SYS PREFERENCES > ENERGY > uncheck "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" in both tabs.
Let your Mac go into sleep or close the lid for a few mins. and reopen and verify that your trackpad and mouse are fine. They should be after this,.........
If not contact Apple for full in shop diagnostic, theyll run a hardware test (unlikely causation) and reinstall the OS, then retest and LASTLY replace the logic board (very unlikely). -
2013 Macbook Air system freezes
A couple times a day, my MacBook Air 13" Haswell will freeze and I have to do a hard reset to get it back. It usually starts with the applications freezing, but i can still use the keyboard/mouse and can still switch between apps but none of them respond. Then the finder will lock up, and finally the mouse/keyboard stop working and I have to do the reset. My co-worker has exact same model and is experiencing same issue. I have read other threads about black screens, but that never happens to us.
This occurs in any configuration, whether I have any USB items in or not, wheThis is a rather old thread so I hope aapotts as found a satisfactory fix by now.
There are a lot of possible causes/solutions to the wireless/Internet freezing phenomena
There doesn't, at this time, appear to be one universal cause, nor one sure fire cure.
Some of this has been traced back to faulty hardware, but some have found the problem has nothing to do with their machine but instead to do with using old wireless routers and their settings/updates.
Bluetooth, or other wireless signals interference, corrupt network settings all have been identified as culprits and cures found
Some have had this problem on old Operating Systems... some first discovered it only when they migrated to Mavericks.
Some have brand new machines that work fine, other have a problem, returned their machine for a replacement (under the USA 100% satisfaction warranty) and report no more problems.
As you can see it's hard to pin down, and that's what makes it hard to find a "cure'.
