My macbook air makes a creaking noise

Does anybody else have this problem? I haven't noticed it when it's on a flat surface (but usually when I'm using it in a place where it's on a flat suface, it's noisier there), just usually on my lap. I'm sure it doesn't hurt anything, but it's really bothersome...especially for $1600....

  • Why does my Macbook Air make a single buzz/beep?

Why does my Macbook Air make a single buzz/beep every time I open it or turn it on? It doesn't happen after again after the initial buzz. If I open it after it has been sleeping, it starts up and then there is a buzz. This has only happened since I downloaded iOS Maverick.

    Beeps on startup:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images.
5 beeps = processor is not usable

  • Hello, my 2012 MacBook pro makes a clicking noise

Hello, my 2012 MacBook pro makes a clicking noise in the bottom right of my computer. The empty space below the keyboard where you are supposed to rest your hands. I press it and it sounds like something is snapping almost.

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • HT1338 My macbook air got some loud noise

Just recently my macbook air got a loud noise when i plug in my cable. the fan sound is very loud and i just purchase my macbook recently, may i know what issue is that?

When you think about it, you'll have to agree that with this "description" we can't do much - other than advising you to "turn all sounds off"...
So, a better explanation of what type of noise and possibly in what situation it occured would be absolutely necessary.

  • New Macbook Air makes a strange zipping noise?

When I open the lid to resume from sleep mode the computer makes a strage zipping niose. It sounds almost like a hardrive spin up. I suppose it could be the fans, but I don't believe it was making this niose before? Is this normal of a Macbook Air?

Then you have a fan noise,...the bearings could be defective.

Had my Mac for three weeks now and have recently noticed that every time I place my hands on the device to type it makes a creaking sound, almost like it has become loose. Sharing a house with someone who has the exact same model and they have never experienced the problem. Any ideas???

  • MacBook Air 2.0 Fan Noise While Idling

I picked up a 1.86, 128 SSD MacBook Air last Sunday and have run into an issue with the fan. At first, the computer was near silent as I've experienced with every Apple laptop I've used. However, while reinstalling OS X to trim the printer drivers and language translations the fans kicked on to full bore. After restoring my system with Time Machine, the fans now make a rattling/vibrating noise from the time I start the machine, or wake from sleep.
Since I didn't notice this at first, I'm guessing that I am experiencing an unfortunate defect with my machine. I was hoping to gauge those of you who have purchased this machine to see if this was an isolated case or if this is normal for the Air.
Also, the noise is not extremely loud, and isn't noticeable with a bit of ambient noise in the room like the TV or music. When it is just me and the computer it is quite distracting. Thanks for the help.

unfortunately that's not a desired solution since I already own a MB Pro. The MBA should be the light OS X laptop to carry around. That's why we cope with the little number of ports and even with a battery that cannot be changed by own means.
Because of the poor graphics and the related processor work producing loud fan sounds by just watching a you tube video / a flash site or doing any other not really power intense stuff I sold my MBA rev1 and bought a rev2 to overcome the graphic card bottleneck and overcome this problem.
And that's where we are right know ... stuck with a better machine in terms of power but not in terms of the display.. left alone by Apple so far in the middle of nowhere with this issue so far. I even can't go to an Apple store and ask them to open any MBA and give me one with a perfect display. We ain't got an Apple store so far in Germany. It's thrid party electronics stores selling those products over here and they actually deny opening the devices before being sold and handing me over a perfect one. Despite of that I have to buy it and afterwards return it for "repair". That's "real customer service" with greated satisfaction. So the only way for me is to gamble and to order directly from Apple Store online and return it if it's not a perfect one. It did this twice but due to the forums experience and due to my personal experience I went for a refund after the second rev2 and now are waiting for a couple of weeks until I will give it a try again. But as long as Apple does not officially react I doubt much will change.
However compared to the number of posters and the sold devices the percentage of complaining users is so low (0.000.x %) Apple probably does not see a reason yet to react. The only thing that keeps me from thinking that it's minority problem is that so many people are reporting that so many MBA rev2 in Apple Store would show the problem to and that even the store genius and stuff admit the devices to have this "faulty" screen. That's my only hope in terms that maybe something in the future will change and that maybe there comes a day (hopefully in the near future) where I can go and buy and get a perfect MBA rev2 and thus an Apple Laptop that I can use what it was designed to be an "almost" perfect lightway OS X device.

  • My macbook pro makes that ejecting noise when i open it but not every time usually when i ve been away for awhile then take it out of sleep it makes the noise is this normal?

Hi ive had my macbook pro for a week or so and when i open after its been in sleep mode for quite a while it will usually make that ejecting noise. It doesnt make the ejecting noise evreytime i open it just sometimes. Is this normal HELP

    Yes, it's normal.
Apple released a firmware update a couple of years ago that was supposed to stop the drive from making that noise in certain models that were available then, but even the update didn't work all the time. The noise is completely harmless and not indicative of any problem. Just ignore it.

  • My macbook pro makes erratic beeping noises

My macbook pro makes a distinctive, 3 note beeping noise. It repeats at uneven intervals. I went to Console App and saw the following messages repeated at the exact times these beeps happened, so I imagine they are related. I just don't know what these messages mean, nor how to fix them. Can anyone help?

  • Does the Macbook Air make a good "Main" Computer?

I was thinking of selling my Mid-2010 model 17" Macbook Pro in favor of one of the new Macbook Air's rumored (and likely) to be coming out. However, I use my current Macbook Pro as my "Main" computer...schoolwork, surfing the web, watching YouTube videos, facebook, email, and the occasional games like N.O.V.A. 2 and I also have a lot of iTunes songs, Movies, and Apps on there. ...so my question is for those with a current Macbook Air, does it make a good "Main" Computer for what I would intend to use it for? Or should I just stick with my Macbook Pro? (BTW I have only used about 196GB out of my 500GB Harddrive)

Sticky question. What does "a lot" of music and movies mean?
Given how much HD you've used up, you could certainly get a 13" MBA and have plenty of HD left over; and I think the latest models, especially if you get as much RAM as you can and such, should be more than powerful enough to do all you want to do and be your primary computer. Of course, you should go to a store and be sure you're okay with less screen real estate to watch those movies and play those games. It could be a bit of a shock to go from that 17" wide to a more modest 13".
I think the real question you need to ask yourself is less a matter of what you're doing now than what you plan on doing in the future. If there is really nothing you need a 17" 500g Pro for, if you're not going to go into computer graphics, movie making or any of those professions where such a machine is almost essential, then by all means, go MBA. Likewise if you aim to do more traveling. I think you'll find the weight difference alone between the two machines worth the switch, not to mention the beauty of SSD which, currently, you can't get on Pros without paying a lot.

My MacBook Air is making a clicking noise every 7 seconds for 2 seconds. It started today, and I have had the computer for almost a year.  It is below the power switch and annoying enough that it is hard to even work with the computer.  It sounds as if a hard drive is trying to work. No applications running.  Ideas?

If its a MBA with solid state drive then I would guess its the fan touching something ???. I think it have no other moving parts.

  • Macbook air making weird fan noise

It sounds like the fan is going into over drive, I guess.. The problem occurs when I'm playing games, or when i tilt my computer for some reason.
    2012 Macbook air 4GB ram, i-5 processor.

GPU / CPU intensive activities like playing games will generate heat.
Fans will run at higher rpm to cool down the computer. That is normal.
If the temperature gets too high, the computer will shutdown to protect itself from damage.
    Best.
