My MacBook Air turns off while booting

Last night I installed a heavy software on my Mac but still had 11GB free on hard drive. However while working it just crashed and stopped working. Then I turned it off and on again, but everytime it in booting when the Apple logo appears it was keep loading, even for 20 mins.  So I treid to load recovery and tried all opriones. But each one does not work for different reasons.
First one is recovery from back up, as I dont have any backup so I cant use it.
Installing new OS also does not work as I does not let me to choose a drive. Keep saying Macintosh HD is locked.
Also for Disk Uitility, when I choose the Macintosh HD, it gives error while verifying the Disk and also ends up with error when repairing.
And now whenever i turn it on, it just turns of when the apple logo appears.
I have not tried safe mode yet, as I dont know how to do it.
Any idea? :/
Is there anyway to copy my files before I format the drive or any way?

The MBA bought new? Then you have warrantee.
You should be able to start while holding the Alt(option) key for the Boot menu: HDD, RecoveryDisk.
And start while holding the Shift key for the Safe mode.
Do the SMC reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Do it twice or even three times.
When you can then boot into the safe mode, do that, then shutdown and do the PRAM reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
When the system then still misbehaves, go the Apple, make an appointment and have them look at it.

Cleaned files and apps with "app cleaner" and now MacBook Air turns off during start up. What happens? What can I do? Please help

The "app cleaner" managed to do bad things to the file system so that it is unable to boot any longer.
This is the primary reason I always recommend that any of those so called "cleanup" apps never be used. They do more harm then good.
Try a safe boot by holding down the shifgr key when you hear the boot chime. Maybe that can fix the damage.
    Let us know what happens.

  • Macbook air turned off without warning?

Hi! Last night my macbook air turned off without warning and wouldn't turn back on until I tried again this morning. A few weeks ago I had my battery and logic board replaced and since then it the screen has gone blue for a few seconds and then back to normal a few times, (in case this is related at all). Is there something I should do to make sure this doesn't happen again.

As you say it is just been repaired I would take it back to the place that repaired it and ask them to look at it.

  • Macbook unibody backlight turns off while booting to 10.7

This is a customer unit, so I do not want to do anything to their hard drive without being completely sure that is the issue.
When attempting to boot a Macbook 13-inch Late 2009 (polycarbonate Unibody) to 10.7 on an internal or 10.7.5 on an external hard drive connected via USB the unit boots through the gray screen with Apple logo and spinning gear properly but loses backlight at the point I would normally get the blue screen. It does this in Safe Boot as well.
I am able to boot to an external USB drive running 10.6.8 without issue.
I am also able to boot to the recovery partitions of the 10.7 drives with no video issues.
When trying to boot to the regular partitions, the backlight turns off where the screen should be going to blue just before the login prompt or desktop depending on the account setup.
Has anyone else had this trouble?

i have the exact same issue i still have a applecare so i brought it to my local repair shop(filled with greedy lebanese men who ****** me over when i bought my macbook in march of 2009 2 days before the new macbook pros came out they were like nope u paid $600 extra for an inferior product but we're not going to refund you because u can **** yourself even though i called apple and they said they could replace it with the new one if i bought it from them but since i bought it from one of their repair centers and not an actual apple store im ******) anyway I brought it in several times and they told me that they first replaced the logic board then the they replaced the screen(which was obvious) and they told me they replaced the ram( they did and they downgraded my ram in the process i went in with 4gb of DDR3 @ 1333 mhz and came out with 2 GB of DDR3 @ 667 mhz thanks you lebanese cocksuckers) i made them fix their ram switch which they weren't too happy about and immediately lied to me and told me that there was no problem and that they didn't put different ram in. Then they told me that there was nothing they could do and they couldn't even find the problem i was discribing. since it happens randomly everytime i brought it in to show them how it wouldn't start up or it would turn off randomly it miraciously worked fine. ******* apple, I'm going to call them and demand that they prepare a complete replacement which the lebanese guy told me was impossible, they would not replace the whole macbook just because i had a problem. I too upgraded to mountain lion to try and fix the issues, i then reformated my macbook and downgraded to snow leopard and still the issue remains. *** are we supposed to do this is a chronic issue with many many macs and apple hasn't yet come up with a solution to a problem THEY caused.

  • 2014 Macbook Air turns off intermittently for no reason.

Several days ago my Macbook Air started completely shutting down randomly, even if I've got 95% battery. It doesn't go through a shutdown cycle or anything, just suddenly a black screen. I'm usually able to just turn it back on but there have been a few instances where I can't get it back on. The only way I can get it to come back on after that is a combination of dumb luck and endless SMC resets. It seems that I don't have this issue when the laptop is plugged in to the charger.
From my perspective it seems as if there's a software issue. The battery is fine and the charger works fine. It almost seems as if somewhere along the line the software screws up and for whatever reason thinks that the battery is dead, which would explain why It doesn't happen when I'm running off of an external power source.
Any suggestions on how to keep this from happening?

  • Macbook display turns off when booting Snow Leopard DVD

I have mid-2009 Macbook Pro and I hate Mountain Lion. I want to do a clean install of Leopard using the DVD (grey) that came with my computer. I loaned it to a friend recently and he had no issues. But everytime i try to boot from the SL DVD (hold C at startup) it behaves normally, until about the time it would go into the DVD startup screen. At that point the display turns off (not the whole computer, just the display) as if it has gone to sleep. And I can't get it to turn on again. I've also tried booting and holding Option and choosing the DVD as the boot drive. No dice.
Awhile back I created a Lion install DVD. I can boot to it just fine. But i don't want Lion either. Any ideas why this is happening?  Thanks!

Press control shift eject, then any key to toggle the display from sleep/wake.

  • MacBook Pro turns off during boot?

This is kind of a long story.
I have a 13-inch, Mid-2010 MacBook Pro running OS X Mavericks. I was using it near a bathtub, when a moderate amount of water spilled onto the keyboard. I immediately dabbed out most of it, and put it upside down for some time. It was running then, with all the keys and trackpad working fine. t turned it off, and tired turning it on after half an hour. Nothing. I decided to keep it switched off for 7 days, during which I would open the lid every now and then to find vapor on the screen from the keyboard which I would wipe and close again. I turned it on when there was no vapor spotted for 3 days. I plugged it in after 7 days, to see that the battery status indicator was erratic. It turned on with a sound from the SuperDrive (the usual click). There was no startup chime. A few minutes later, it turned off. I decided to reset the PRAM and SMC, and I realized that I can get to my account window successfully (and type a 22 letter password) as long as I keep any key pressed throughout bootup (option, command key, etc). I have tried many times, but it just turns off with a "nik" sound. I haven't backed up, and I have about 270 GB of important data stored that I CANNOT lose.
If it helps, it's 250GB drive crashed in December but it was replaced with a 500 GB and has been running smooth until this.
Please help me! Any advice at all is extremely appreciated. Thank you!

Take the HDD out of the MBP and install it in an enclosure.  Connect it to another Mac and see if you have access to the HDD.  If so, copy what ever files that are important to you to another HDD.
Then you can take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.  Prepare your self  for unfavorable news.
    Ciao.

  • 2011 MBP 13" Screen backlight turns off while booting up.

Has anyone else been having this issue? Is there a solution?
I read on another forum that some have had this occur after restoring off of a time machine back up. Though I did use the SSD from my 2010 MBP and just reinstalled OS X to be safe.

I know that Apple does not make their own harddrives, but when buying something, I don't care about who makes the components.  That's like saying that if your car breaks down due to an electrical problem, it is not the car manufacturers fault because they did not make the part, it is still their car and their component.
As far as shaking it, no.  I do not treat it any different thatn I have treated my other laptops.  I still have my 4 year old MBP that works fine (using it now). I do transport it, but that is what laptops are for.  I do not drop it it or shake it however.
Thank you for the reply though.  I would just really like to know if it is a software issue (don't see how it could be) or is it something I am doing wrong...

  • Hello, when I turn up my macbook it start lagging  a lot and also when it is turning off while I use it it works perfectly

Hello, when I turn up my macbook it start lagging  a lot and also when it is turning off while I use it it works perfectly anyone help

Not enough free storage space can slow your Mac down. Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage. Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
Anti virus software, as well as third party Mac cleaning utilities such as MacKeeper  and CleanMyMac can also slow your Mac down.
Check to see if the startup disk needs repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Make sure to back up all important data first before using OS X Recovery.

  • Keyboard backlight does not turn off while watching video

I just discovered this issue on my new macbook air (haswell). I also found a thread on it here from back in 2009, apparently it's been an issue for 4 years!!!???
In that thread people noted that if the backlight is set to anyhing more than 5 seconds, the backlight won't turn off while watching a video, but at 5 seconds, turns off fine as it should.
Anyone have any ideas? Just seems like it needs to be taken seriously by Apple and fixed in a future OSX update.

  • My MacBook suddenly turned off. And won't turn on

My MacBook suddenly turned off.  There was a click sound and then nothing.  I have tried to restart it but nothing happens. No sound no lights. It is plugged in and the power cord shows green. I have not damaged it in any way.....

    Here is what to do;
    1. Unplug everything from your computer.
    2. Take off the bottom of your MacBook / Pro / Air.  (There are usually 3 screws that are longer than the rest near the vent, remember where they go.)
    3. Carefully unplug the battery from the logic board.
    4. Wait 10 seconds.
    5. Plug the battery back into the logic board.
    6. Put the bottom cover back on.
    7. Reboot the computer holding the "Option" key.
