My MacBook Air was stolen

My MacBook Air was stolen a few weeks ago. I immediately changed any account passwords I had on the computer. I s there any way to prevent the theif from getting technical support from Apple?

Yes, see here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2526
Although Apple does not have a process to track or flag lost or stolen product, you can use My Support Profile to find a list of serial numbers that have been purchased or registered with your Apple ID.
Thats just awful. I hope you had theft insurance for same.
The one downside to a wonderful product is sticky fingered thugs want to steal them.

HI, My Macbook Air was stolen this week from my checked baggage.
I have the box with all the information SN etc.. Is there a way to disable this device?  Block it from my Yahoo email? Locate it? Any ideas?

If you activated "Find My Mac" in iCloud before the loss, maybe. Otherwise no.

  • If my macbook air was stolen in MEXICO can it still be traced? :(

I was visiting in Mexico last weekend and my Macbook air was stolen is there any hope i can trace it with the serial # or does that only work in the US?

you can't trace it with the serial in the US either.  Believe me, if it was stolen in Mexico, it is loooong gone.  Of course, if you had "find my mac" installed before it was stolen, their may be a small chance you could locate it.

  • HT1529 My MacBook air was stolen and I do not have the receipt for the mac anymore, but I think I know who has taken it. How could I find out the serial number for my computer if I do not have the box anymore nor the receipt?

Is it possible to find it out any other way as well?

How do I find the serial number online? I connected it to Google Docs and iCloud all the time. Also, is there a way to activate Find My Mac? I'm in a panic here. Thanks.......

Go to Apple - Support - Welcome To My Support Profile ... assuming you registered your Mac.

"Activate"?  Are you literally asking if you can set up Find My Mac after the theft?  No!  But if you mean you already set it up and want to use it, then here's how to do that:
Go to http://www.icloud.com/find on any computer's web browser.  Sign in, and find your Mac there and do something (like erase it.

  • Mac air was stolen erased but can't locate. Why?

My MacBook Air was stolen approx 2 weeks ago. I enabled the remote erasure feature and have just received an email today saying my mac was erased at 6.09 (-17hrs out of sync which would indicate either the time has been changed or it's in west Coast America). No location has been provided. Is it possible to get a location as it's obviously connected to the internet somewhere!

Since you wiped it you can no longer see the location.

From a room at my hotel that belong to a guest. I request a apple Id and password from the guest in order to track it though iCloud, when I login into the account the MacBook was not their, however I saw other device. A few days has past then the MacBook appear. How does that happened, please explain?

For a stolen Macbook to appear in iCloud - the person who stole it must turn it on.
You can't track something that's turned off.

  • Our Macbook air was lost or stolen shortly after initial setup / registration but  device location was not turned on.  Can MAc ID

Our Macbook air was lost or stolen shortly after initial setup / registration but  device location was not turned on.  Can MAc ID # be found through email linked during setup ?

The following has some recommendations from Apple of what to do if Find My Mac was not turned on before it was lost or stolen. The quote is from If your Mac is lost or stolen - Apple Support
Find My Mac is the only Apple service that can help track or locate a lost Mac. If you didn’t set up Find My Mac before your Mac was lost, or you can’t locate it, these steps might help you protect your data:
Change your Apple ID password to prevent anyone from accessing your iCloud data or using other services (such as iMessage or iTunes) from your Mac.
Change your passwords for other accounts you use with your Mac, including email, banking, and social sites like Facebook or Twitter.
Report your lost or stolen Mac to local law enforcement. They might request the serial number of your computer. You can find this information on the original box or receipt you received when you purchased your Mac, or on Apple's My Support Profile site if you registered your Mac.

SIgn in with your Apple ID, the same one you used to access this support forum.
Hopefully, you will see a list of all the devices you registered with your Apple ID, including their serial numbers. Let me know how this works out.
Edit to add: If you enabled "find my imac" on your Pro, you ought to be able to remotely lock it, or even wipe its memory. Click http://www.icloud.com/ sign in with your Apple ID and click the big green "find my iPhone" icon (nevermind the name, it will find all your devices provided they're running Lion or iOS 5).
Then file a police report and nail the b*****d.

Since you can see it in your device list it must have Find My Mac activated, but you're going to have to wait for them to take it online in order to either locate, lock or wipe it. Until it goes online you can't do anything. http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/find-my-device/

  • Time Machine Locked after MacBook Air reformatted. My MacBook Air was overfull due to an Address book issue (duplication) so after many attempts to clear space, I ended up wiping out the system and reloading Lion.

Time Machine Locked after MacBook Air reformatted. My MacBook Air was overfull due to an Address book issue (duplication) so after many attempts to clear space, I ended up wiping out the system and reloading Lion. This resulted in the Time Machine thinking that it was now connected to a different computer. Apparently this diables the existing information.
Now I can see that the back-ups exist (back to Sept 2012) but they are greyed out, therefore unavailale to restore. Again, this seems like an issue that shouldn't be happening. The whole point of the Time Machine is to enable reinstatement of data after catastrophic failure. What if my computer actually had to be replaced due to a hardware issue? How would I beableto restore anything?
    The path already (unsuccessfully) taken;
Open Library on the computer, Open Time Machine, Select Correct date, drill down to correct data you wish to restore, click "Restore".
This did not work because the correct date was greyed out. Restore key was greyed out.
