My macbook air won't auto connect to wifi

I've had my Macbook Air for 2 months. For the first month and a bit it connected to Wifi automatically but now when I first log in and after sleep mode I have to manually connect. I have played around with the system prefrences but to no avail, it's probably something really simple I'm missing! I'll be extremely grateful for any suggestions

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • My macbook air does not automatcially connect to wifi any longer when i turn on from sleep, how can i make it connect automatically again

My macbook air will no longer connect to my wifi automatically, I have changed the preferences to automatically selecr known networks but everytime i open the macbook air or after i restart the macbook, i will need to manually l select the wifi. How do I re-config to automatically connect to my wifi. Thanks

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
    Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    and
    Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
    Enable Power Nap...
    11. Reinstall OS X.

  • Macbook air won't stay connected to my desktop

My new book air seems to drop connection from my desktop.  I thought the airport connection is sufficiant.  Do I need another peripheral?

I'm having this issue, as well.  I have 2 MacBooks and they both lose WiFi after waking-up from sleep.  Ever since Lion came to town, this has taken a poop in the connectivity bed.
I state a preferred network, yet after waking up it is no longer connected or grabs some random network.  I've tried to tell it only preferred, but it keeps doing its own thing.
VERY ANNOYING.... especially when they fixed the iMac for the issue I am describing.  Ughhh.

  • Retina macbook pro can't auto connect to wifi after wifi router rebooted

My macbook pro with retina can’t automatically connect to wifi after the wifi router was rebooted. There is exclamation mark on wifi sign. As I clicked the wifi sign, it shows no Internet connects. However, It is strange there is a tick in front of my wifi name. In order to use wifi, I had to click off wifi, and then click on. The previous version, Macbook pro, has no problem like this. I had deleted all files under wifi library, but still fail. Appreciating for any way to solve it!

  • My macbook pro won't automatically connect to wifi

My computer is showing it is connected to the internet via wifi but my page won't load and gives me a message that Safari cannot connect to the internet.  When I run the diagnostics it tells me my connection is fine.

Yes.. wireless after sleep or reboot is a problem. See the info from Tesserax.

  • My new Macbook air won't connect to my Vizio HDTV.

My new Macbook Air won't connect to my Vizio VO32LF HDTV.  I bought a mini-displayport to HDMI cable to connect the two.  When I connect the cable, and switch to the appropriate HDMI input on the TV, my Macbook Air screen will flash blue for a second, and then return to normal.  The TV reports it's unable to find a signal.  I use the HDTV as my primary monitor, so I'd really appreciate some help on getting the two to place nicely together!

    Cp,
Thanks for the reply. However, it appears that the issue is not with the hotspot, but with the network settings in the MacBook Air as every other device I have (including non-Apple devices) will connect to the iPhone hotspot. Another symptom is that my MacBook Air can find my iMac (and other network devices) on my wireless network, but the iMac can't find the MacBook Air.

  • MacBook Air won't connect with TimeCapsule

I recently bought the new Time Capsule and for a while it was happily backing up both my and my wife's MacBook Airs. Then it stopped backing up my wife's computer. On investigation I find my wife's MacBook Air won't connect to the Time Capsule. When I try to select the Time Capsule as the back-up disk an error message appears: "There was a problem connecting to the server "John's AirPort Time Capsule"". I can see the Time Capsule in Finder on my wife's computer but when I click on "Connect As" I get the same error message. On my computer the Time Capsule appears in Finder as Connected, but disconnecting it doesn't make any difference to my wife's computer.
    Any help gratefully received.
    J

First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
    Try again to back up.
If you still can't, open the Time Machine preference pane and delete the TC from the list of backup destinations. You may have to unlock the settings by clicking the lock icon in order to do this. Then add it back.

My airplay mirroring won't work with my macbook air, eventhoug my internet connection is very fast. The image will appear after 5 seconds.

Mirroring is done over the local network so internet speed isn't relevant.

  • Macbook Air won't connect to Airport Extreme!

    I'm at a loss here.
Last week I got drive corruption because I lost connection while writing data to an external drive connected to my Airport Extreme (while using my iMac).
I had noticed the drive connection was dropping quite often, both using the iMac and Macbook Air...
After doing a bit of searching, I learned it could be that the Airport Extreme was dying... and indeed it explained why my internet had been so painfully slow at times too, which I had been blaming on the computers or browsers, not even thinking for 2 seconds about the router!
So I did the normal thing, and ordered the new Airport Extreme (mine was the 2nd generation, dating back 2008, so it was normal I upgraded).
Yesterday I installed the new Airport Extreme and everything seemed to work like a charm. Internet was fast and the drives didn't lose connection once on the Macbook Air (I didn't have a chance to test the iMac... altough the error message wasn't displayed anywhere when I looked at the screen this morning, so I guess it was good there too).
I made sure not to write anything on the drives, though, just to make sure the Aiport Extreme did work OK...
And this morning, what do I see on the Macbook Air? Impossible to connect!
    Internet works fine, no problem!
If I check Airport Utility, the Airport Extreme is there, green signal, everything's A-OK. And disk sharing is enabled, I double-checked.
I checked on the iMac... I can access the drives, just like yesterday.
But on the Macbook Air, I see the Airport Extreme icon in the Finder, but when I click on it I get the "Connecting..." for a while, until I get the "Failed to connect" and an error message saying it's impossible to connect to the server, to check if it's available and with the right IP address, etc.
How could it be offline, busy and/or with the wrong IP address if it's giving me internet and showing up as perfectly healthy on the Airport Utility???
How could it be not working, when it's working perfectly fine with the iMac???
The only thing I could see is if somewhere in the system the wrong info is sent (the right one for internet, the wrong one for Finder), but I don't know where that would be or how to change it.
I tried the usual restart, to no avail.
I tried removing the network in System Preference, and putting it back, no luck.
    As I said... I'm at a loss.
How could it just stop working, and just stop for the drive sharing?
