My Macbook Air won't recognize either of my wireless printers.  What can I do?

I've had my MacBook Air for a year with two wireless printers connected.  Today, I tried to print something and it seemed my Mac wasn't recognizing my printers anymore.  I went into System Preferences - Printers and after trying other things, I deleted both printers assuming that I would just re-add them thereby rebooting the system.  However, now when I follow the directions and go into System Preferences - Printers - Add (the plus sign), nothing happens.  I can't add anything, nothing shows up, the search function doesn't work.  I don't know what else to do.  Any ideas??

Thanks for replying so fast.  Before I tried your suggestion, I tried another suggestion that I saw that actually did work and I want to list it here for others that might have same issue.  This is what I did.
1.  Turned off and unplugged printers (I had two).
2.  Turned off computer completely
3.  Went to bed (this is optional)
4.  Next morning - unplugged the router, left it unplugged for 5 minutes, then plugged it back in.
5.  Plugged printer in and turned it on and ran it through the set up wizard - some printers may do the set up automatically
6.  Turned my computer on
7.  Went into Settings - System Preferences - Printers - clicked on the + sign to add and my printer showed up (nothing showed up when I was initially having the problem)
8.  Clicked on my printer that I wanted to add and clicked the add button....bottom right of screen
9.  Went into my document and printed it
10.  Then did the same with second printer - and my Mac recognized that one as well once I turned it on and did set up
Hope this helps anyone experiencing the same issue!

  • MacBook Air won't recognize iOmega External Hard Drive

I just bought my macbook air and I wanted to transfer my data over from my old MacBook. The MacBook died so I was using my backup. The problem is that the Air won't recognize the ext hard drive. I connected the ext hard drive to my AirPort Extreme for the migration assistant but I keep getting a connection failed message. I tried plugging in the drive to the air directly using USB but it won't recognize it at all. The drive won't mount. The drive begins spinning and the light is on so the drive does work. It always worked with my old MacBook. I did alway connect it with FireWire so could that cause a problem since I have to connect it with USB to the Air?

I had a similar issue with mine but it was because I tried to connect to an external drive that was already connected to my iMac via FW800. When I disconnected the FW cable and plugged in the USB, everything worked perfectly.

  • Macbook Air won't recognize HP Envy printer

Just bought an HP  Envy so that I could print easily from Macbook Air, iPad and iPhone.  Starting with Macbook Air.  Both are connected to the web via Airport Extreme.  Can add printer to Air via IP address, but it really doesn't see it and won't print.

Are the printer drivers installed? You should not use the drivers from CD as they are alyas old.
If the driver inn't installed, plug the printer in via USB and go to the Apple menu and select Software Update. That should install the software.
If that fail, you may need to call HP to see if the printer is indeed connected to the Airpot network properly. You should not have to set it up by IP address. It should should show up as Bonjour.

  • MacBook Air won't recognize my password

When I try to enter to my MacBook Air, it does not recognize my password for log inn into the machine.  I tried several times; I'm sure of the correct password; nothing works.

    Could be a keychain issue:
    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

  • I set up an apple ID and password on my iphone but then my MacBook Air won't recognize the password

I set up an apple ID and password on my Iphone and the apple mail account works fine on the Iphone.
I then went to my MacBook Air and entered the same ID and password to set up an apple mail account, but it says my password is incorrect.
    How can that be?

More information--I deleted the apple email account from my iPhone and created an apple email account on my MacBook Air. It worked fine on the MacBook, but then the password would not be recognized on the iPhone. It is as if I can only have an apple email account on only one device at a time!

  • Macbook Air won't detect Apple TV or wireless printer

I purchased a Macbook Air with Mavericks a couple of months ago and had a wireless HP Photosmart printer, which I set up on the macbook. The machine recognised it over the wireless network and then all of a sudden one day I could not print to it. So I removed it to try a reinstall and the macbook would not detect it again after that. I have had to buy a cable to physically connect the printer to the machine when I need to print or scan.
Then I recently got my hands on an Apple TV a couple of weeks ago and it is working fine on the network, I can mirror the iPad on it but when it comes to the macbook, the Airplay Display is showing "No device detected". However, when I open iTunes and all of the Home Sharing is enabled etc (I have followed all of the guidelines to enable all of the settings for sharing ...), I go into Computers on the Apple TV and it attempts to load my iTunes library for a couple of minutes, after which time it says it could not connect.
I'm basically wondering if there is some setting on the macbook that I can't find that may need to be changed to allow me to see devices over the wifi at home.
I've been looking for a while but may just be looking in the wrong places. Any help appreciated for an Apple Noob

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • My MacBook Air is frozen when I started it again. What can I do ?

    See the problem above

I would first try turning off the antivirus. If this is causing the problem, leave it off. At present, there are no known viruses for Macs, although this will change at some point. There is other malware, but you can avoid most of it on your own.

  • My new Macbook air won't connect to my Vizio HDTV.

My new Macbook Air won't connect to my Vizio VO32LF HDTV.  I bought a mini-displayport to HDMI cable to connect the two.  When I connect the cable, and switch to the appropriate HDMI input on the TV, my Macbook Air screen will flash blue for a second, and then return to normal.  The TV reports it's unable to find a signal.  I use the HDTV as my primary monitor, so I'd really appreciate some help on getting the two to place nicely together!

    Cp,
Thanks for the reply. However, it appears that the issue is not with the hotspot, but with the network settings in the MacBook Air as every other device I have (including non-Apple devices) will connect to the iPhone hotspot. Another symptom is that my MacBook Air can find my iMac (and other network devices) on my wireless network, but the iMac can't find the MacBook Air.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know it can be frustrating when your iPhone is not recognized in iTunes. There are some good troubleshooting steps however to help you get this resolved. The steps may be different depending if you are using an Apple computer or a Windows computer so I will include both articles.

  • My MacBook pro won't recognize hard drive I put in it. It boots only to a white screen unless I boot to my recovery USB. If I do that then I can select my USB and my external time machine drive in the disk utility, so no problems there. But what do you

My MacBook pro won't recognize hard drive I put in it. It boots only to a white screen unless I boot to my recovery USB. If I do that then I can select my USB and my external time machine drive in the disk utility, so no problems there. But what do you think it is? It won't recognize any hard drive I put in the machine, so might it be the sata cable?

Boot the Recvoery USB, use Disk Utility to select the internal drive makers namea and size on the left.
Now select erase and select the midde option and click erase, it will take a bit to complete but it's best for the drive.
Now select Partiton tab, click the big box and Options: GUID and then Format: OS X Extended journaled and click apply.
Quit and you should be able to install OS X now with your Apple ID and password.

  • MacBook Pro won't recognize 1TB external drive

    Hey team,
My mid-2010 MacBook Pro won't recognize my WD My Passport 1TB drive.  I was copying files from the drive to my computer when my computer went to sleep (didn't run out of power, just went to standby mode).  Turned computer back on and now it won't recognize the drive.
It is a USB 3.0 cord (computer is only USB 2.0 and the cord works with other drives) and when plugged in, the light turns on and the disk spins but isn't recognized my this or other computers (also not in Disk Utility).
Tried a handful of disk recovery programs but nothing wants to 'see' the disk plugged in.
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

yes yes yes,   I warn people about WD drives on this link:

    What now?
Only option is to buy the SAME exact HD and swap controller boards,  or pay someone a LOT more $$$ to do the same thing.
its not soldered there, its just a controller/ SATA  "one piece"
They do that to save 50 cents in mfg. costs.
I mention your "issue" in that link.    Which is why you do NOT buy WD ext. HD.
they make the controller board and SATA card one piece.
CURRENT MFG. THAT HAVE controller board and SATA cards as one piece are :  WD USB drives, and Toshiba USB Canvio
However Toshiba didnt USED to do that, but they started doing it at the end of 2013.
    avoid those 2.
To avoid that nonsense, buy Hitachi drives in USB.
    Or, the best option:
Save money and invest in a bare hard drive backup and redundancy plan
    Its cheaper
    less fuss
more reiable, removes the nasty failure point of SATA card interfaces.
    takes up lot less space.
Bare hard drives and docks. The most reliable and cheapest method of hard drive data storage, archives, and redundancies
The best method for your data archives and redundancies, which is also the least expensive, the most reliable, and the most compact option is the purchase of naked hard drives and at least one USB 3.0 HD dock ($40 roughly).
While regarding Time Machine and your Macbook or desktop, your primary backup is best saved to a conventional USB (or Firewire / thunderbolt) hard drive inside an enclosure, the most important part of your data protection begins after your 1st / primary Time Machine / backup; and these are your secondary (most important) data storage devices, archives and their redundancies.
However bare hard drives and docks (below) also work perfectly as a Time Machine backup, this is for home use, since the docking station is certainly not very portable as a notebook Time Machine backup device should be; nor should bare HD be packed around with a notebook, rather remain at home or office.
Six terabytes of 2.5" HD pictured below in a very compact space.
Bare hard drives and docks have the lowest cost, the highest reliability, and take up the smallest storage space
    Drawbacks:
    1. Care and knowledge in general handling of naked hard drives (how not to shock a bare HD, and how to hold them properly). Not a genuine drawback.
    Advantages:
    1. By far the least expensive method of mass HD storage on a personal basis. Highest quality naked HD can be purchased in bulk very cheap.
    2. Eliminates the horrible failure point of SATA bridges and interfaces between external drives and the computer.
    3. Per square foot you can store more terabytes of data this way than any other.
    4. Fast, easy, no fuss and most simplex method of data storage on hard drives.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
A green light means that your battery is full or that it can't be detected. If you can't start up the Mac, probably your logic board or battery aren't working.
Take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller to get your battery or logic board replaced. If the MacBook is in warranty, this repair will be free
