My Macbook air won't turn on

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem, I was on my Macbook air earlier and it was
fine, Then i put it to sleep and closed the screen, I tryed turnong it back on earlier bit it turns on as i can hear it but the screen is just black, Can anyone help ?

I have this question too, we have tried the various left cntrl + left option (alt) + left shift and power button for 5 seconds and the left command + left option + p + r + power and these do not work either, when you plug the power adapater in the green light comes on the adapter, but pressing the power button has no response.
Any help would be appreciated, had a trackpad replaced by apple genius 3-4 months ago, have booked another appointment for Saturday morning but could do without the 50 mile round trip for another fault.
Starting to wish we had bought a mac or ipad.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
A green light means that your battery is full or that it can't be detected. If you can't start up the Mac, probably your logic board or battery aren't working.
Take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller to get your battery or logic board replaced. If the MacBook is in warranty, this repair will be free

    See this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Find the section that applies to your computer, and follow the instructions.
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • My brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way.

Hi my brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way. If I try to restart it or shut it down, it will go like it is starting up, but goes to a gray screen and stays there. I can see the mouse and move it, but it won't turn all the way on. What is wrong with it? It had been working fine since I got it, but today it hasn't been.

You may have to see if troubleshooting this issue can help, though the instructions on a process of elimination by symptoms are tedious in the following support article, and are suggested to be performed ahead of trying the process described in the title.
•Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

For the actual SMC reset, note subsection in above, instructions click-open on blue text:
    >Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
If the computer does not shut down, and just hangs there, try pressing the power button down for 15 seconds. Check the suggestions in the above article to see if any of them can be used, if the computer will power-up.
There is another item that sometimes can help, but the main issue you say could be resolved by the SMC reset; this other thing is involved NVRAM (non-volatile random access memory) so here's an article about it.
    •About NVRAM and PRAM:

You may have to call ahead to the nearest Apple Store for an appointment to see a Genius; or at authorized reseller, their service product specialist who should be trained to understand how to proceed, just in case there is a hardware issue behind the symptoms. When you call, be sure to have the serial number and purchase date available, when you call an official store.
Or use the 'Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support' to start the process...

    Hopefully this helps somewhat.

My MacBook Air Doesn't turn on. I did everything already, pushing the shift+ctrl+option etc. 5 seconds 10 seconds etc. still no power, there is a green light on the charger but no light or sound coming from the macbook air. This is like only a month old, so there is still warranty. the problem is I have "very important documents" in my macbook air and how would i get assurance that the files won't be corrupted, used, or lost?

    Guys! I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
I hope everyone with the same problem read this!
I posted my macbook AIR won't turn on.
I coulding risk bringing it to MAC Store and leave it there because I have PRIVATE FILES.
I tried almost every other options, instructions in youtube etc. but nothing worked.
    but now it WORKS
All i did was plug it for 24 hours straight. Tried turning it ON again but wouldn't work..
I left it in my room for about 1-2weeks, thinking it was hopeless.
one day I pressed the power button again THEN it came back to LIFE!!
So guys dont lose hope. Try resting it for a few days then try again.
    hope this helps

  • MacBook Air won't turn on - it only hoots !

My MacBook Air (2009/2010) will not turn on: when I press the power button there's a tinny little hooting sound  every 5 seconds, exactly in sync with the flashing power light - that's all - no sound of fans or anything, nothing to see on the black screen.  Any ideas ?  Thank you !
    FC234B/A RFB MACBOOK AIR 13.3 /2.13GHZ/2GB/12-GBR
bought refurbished from Apple June 2010
I have tried the following Apple Support advice :
If your MacBook Air doesn’t turn on or start up
Try the following suggestions in order until your computer turns on:
Make sure the power adapter is plugged into the computer and into a functioning
power outlet. Be sure to use the 45W MagSafe Power Adapter that came with your
MacBook Air. If the power adapter stops charging and you don’t see the indicator
light on the power adapter turn on when you plug in the power cord, try unplugging
and replugging the power cord to reseat it.
Check whether the battery needs to be recharged. If the light on the power adapter
glows amber, the battery is charging. See “Running Your MacBook Air on Battery
    Power” on page 34.
If the problem persists, return the computer to its factory settings by pressing the left
Shift key, left Option (alt) key, left Control key, and the power (®) button
    simultaneously for five seconds.
Press and release the power (®) button and immediately hold down the Command
(x), Option, P, and R keys simultaneously until you hear the startup sound a second
time. This resets the parameter RAM (PRAM).
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
on Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

thank you - it's just one tone, which lasts half a second (every five seconds) - and with exactly the same timing, a single pulsing flash of the white power light comes on and goes off..

  • MacBook Air won't turn on :( please help me !

A few weeks ago I dropped my Macbook air on tiles (not from a very high distance at all) and the next day when I turned it on it worked fine. Then after a few days it randomly shut down twice so I shut it down for a few hours and after that it worked fine again. Then the next day it shut down randomly again so I asked my bf to help and I think he downloaded a software or something on it without telling me because I always tell him not to download anything. when I tried turnin it on again it made a noise like a big fan (I'm not sure if this was before or after my be touched it) and now it won't turn on at all   the charger still works because the light is green when I plug it in. I also noticed that there is a crack on the bottom which may have been from dropping It. Im going away this afternoon and won't be able to take it to an Apple store until I get back but if anyone can please tell me what might be wrong  with it and if it's hard to fix/ expensive to fix or fixable at all can you please let me know ! I will appreciate it so much !!

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Macbook air won't turn on and the screen will go white. It says that the start up disk is full. HELP

When I turn my macbook air on it sends me a message saying that my start up disk is full and that I have to free up some space. When I log in into my account the screen will go white and I won't be able to do anything. I tried to restart my computer in safemode holding down the shift key while restarting it but it won't work. HELP PLEASE.

If you could boot from an external OS X boot drive then you could delete some files.  You probably don't have such a HDD/Thumb drive but a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider could help you.  This is not a hardware repair so a Genius should not need to charge you for this service.

or find an Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com/country
After it is healthy again I would buy a new external HDD and use Carbon Copy Clone or Super Duper! to create a bootable clone.  Keeping a clone current is also an excellent backup methodology in addition to Time Machine.

  • MacBook Air won't turn on - battery issue?

    hi everyone,
I stupidly brought a 2013 MacBook Air second hand 2 weeks ago. I have had no problems, updated to Yosemite and changed user log in etc to my own and that's been fine. The battery count was about 642 so probably about 648 now.
I usually charge it when its in the last 10% of life and then remove the charger when green. On Thursday I left it on green for about 3 hours and removed it as soon as I had realised it was fully charged and used it prior to that. Today is Saturday (just so you know timescale) and I went to turn it on.
it fired up past the Apple logo and onto log in screen. I typed in my password and it died. So I tried again got to log in (and battery was at 74% when I had a quick look) and then it died again. Powered on again, and this time didn't make it to the log in before dying. And the final time died quicker again. Now it won't switch on at all.
i have tried another air charger from a friend and this hasn't helped. Also have tried shaking it to get the motion sensor activated. Nothing.
any advice and suggestions would be really appreciated. I know I'm stupid for buying second hand, and I will probably spend as much fixing it as buying a new one would have been added to the cost of the macbook.
    thankyou in advance
    charlee

I saw this article - but how do I know if I need to reset the memory - as the article suggests - or if it is the mother board- as some other articles say---
I think I could change out the memory but where do I purchase one -- if that is the case??

  • My MacBook Air won't turn on after it fell from 1ft high.

My MacBook Air fell about a foot and got a little wet on the back behind the screen. I don't think that's the problem but I'm not sure. I wiped it off and tried to turn it on but it won't come on. I can hear the fan and other noises but the screen doesn't show any sign of life. What can I do? I live in Belize and the closest apple store is in Florida.

I can pretty much guarantee you that dropping a computer from about one foot as well as getting it wet would void any warranty you might have.  Warranties generally protect against manufacturing defects, not actions caused by users.
I'll leave it to hardware folks to discuss PRAM and other stuff - I'm more of a software / programming person.  But my view is whatever measures may or may not temporarily work, once the poor machine has suffered these fates, it will never reliably work again.

  • My macbook air won't turn on, and is not responding to charger

I updated the software of my macbook air, it says it should be plugged in into a power source, so I charged it. It was fine and updating. i left it for a couple of hours, when i came back, its screen is black and the charger lit on green, I unplugged it thinking that it was done updating. and when i'm going to use it, it wont start up and charger is not responding

My wife's MacBook Air (2011, 11") won't turn on. She shut it down, and now it won't power back up. When the charger is plugged in, it shows orange for charging, but never reaches green. Even when plugged in, it won't turn on. And the charger is fine because mine charges fine (same model).
