My MacBook Airport card has never appeared.

I have a new MacBook. At no time has the airport card made its presence felt. In System Profiler, it says re Airport Card 'No information found'. On Network Port Configurations, Airport is grayed out so is unresponsive.
The MacBook is located adjacent to an active 802.11 Netgear router. An adjacent G5 desktop machine receives strong wireless signals from the same router. The MacBook is able to log onto the Web via a built-in ethernet link to the same router.
According to Apple, Airport is standard on this model, hence my confusion. What advice can you give me? Is there some straightforward set-up procedure that I can follow, to avoid having to return the MacBok to the supplier 130 miles away?
Jonks.

If System Profiler is not showing the Card I fear it may have been jarred lose or just not connected during assembly. It's not like earlier ibooks etc. where you can get to it easily either. Sorry - I think you may have to bring it in.

• MacBook Airport card has lost its IP address and won't connect to my network

The Airport card on my MacBook has lost its IP address and will not connect to my network. It worked fine until about two or three days ago. Network Diagnostics says that the Airport now has a self-assigned IP number and will not connect to the Internet. I can't find any info anywhere that tells me how to restore the IP number, and I don't get how it can have a self-assigned number and not connect. I have AT&T U-Verse, and my iMac desktop and two iPhone 4s connect with little difficulty. The MacBook is three years old, and AppleCare just expired two months ago. I'm still running 10.6.8 on both machines. I found an article saying that sometimes DHCP leases expire, but my desktop still works ifne, and I've had both connected to the same network since the same time. The artcicle said that more than one machine can share an IP address, so I wanted to try to enter the desktop IP address into the laptop, but I can't find a way to do so, either. Any thoughts?

Have you tried making a New Location for each yet? The Automatic one get confused easily.
Some "nix" to try when it happens also...
sudo ipconfig set en1 BOOTP;sudo ipconfig set en1 DHCP
sudo ifconfig en1 down;sudo ifconfig en1 up
Sometimes having an all OFF Location can help, thanks to Gnarlodious...

If you mean AppleCare, then I would believe the answer will be yes.
First make sure you have a full backup of everything on your Mac, then run, don't walk to your nearest Apple store.
Note: Due to your Mac now being in computer years, somewhat elderly, Apple may not have the require parts in stock. This will either mean you might have to leave it with them for a number of days, or maybe they will offer you a new Mac mini. While a new Mac mini (if offered) might be a welcome possibility be aware that the new Mac mini no longer has a CD/DVD drive and it comes with Mac OS X Lion and as a result might not run some of your old software.

• AirPort card has disappeared how to recover on mac os x 10.5.5

Hi all,
suddenly my Airport card has disappeared.... how can I get it back? I tried to restart the mac with opt command R-P but nothing... can some one please help this desperate mac user?? thank you so much.

In addition to running Hardware Test as suggested by Jolly Giant, have you tried reinstalling the 10.5.5 combo update?
As a side issue, is there a particular reason that you have not upgraded to 10.5.8? This might be a good time to do so.

• MacBook Airport Card Temperature/Speed

Macbook Penryn 2.4 GHz. iStat Pro says 157 F/68 C. Constantly. On the other hand the bottom does not feel that hot at all. Top cover is slightly warm, most of the time I will not even notice. After I disconnect the power adapter and instntly connect it back again, the temp goes down to 130 F/54 C in about 10 sec and gradually in matter of days it will go back up to 155 F and stay there. So I wonder if a) something is wrong with the power inside the MB or b) the sensor is totally messing it up and iStat Pro is reading the wrong info. I don't believe the problem is with the Airport Card. I already replaced 2 MBs on my third one. Still the same thing...AppleCare has no idea why this is happening. I replaced the macboook once. I am not going crazy about that, but I have another MB that I purchased November last year. It is 2.2 GHz and everything elese is exactly the same (i.e. software installed, processes, memory, hdd..). In exactly the same conditions the temp stays at 119F/48C. Additionally the download speed of my new MB (wireless) is at least 2 times slower than my relatively old MB. Tested this on 3 2.4 GHz MBs with the same poor download results. Upload is exactly the same.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks for your input. Just wanted to make sure it is not something out of ordinary. I moved my "old" Santa Rosa 2.2 GHz MB to draft-N and it seems that it runs at much lower temp than Penryn. I have not seen thou the CPU temp to be affected...That's why I am a little bit surprised...My understanding is that there is no Airport Card temp censor and the calculations are hypothetical and NOT precise...

• MacBook Airport card: Where is it?

My daughter's MacBook Airport has ceased to function. One of the trouble shooting recommendations is to re-seat the card but I cannot find where the card is so that I can re-seat it. Does anyone have instructions about how to get to the Airport card?

First of all, thanks, but it does look extremely complicated and I don't think I'll try it.
Lemon and Falk are extraordinary. My favorite Great Race scene is Boracho, although the early sequences of Professor Fate trying to top the Great Leslie are the most hilarious slapstick scenes except possibly Blake's other great character Inspector Jacques Clouseau.
Anyway thanks for the help.

• Macbook airport card and antenna

i have 2 macbook c2d,one has the 2 antenna airport card and the wifi is very slow, the other with 3 i presume is n version, but i had to swap the screens over, now the mabook i use has a 3 antenna card but only 2 antenna from the monitor, would i be better of using the 3 antenna version but ust plugging 2 in and which 2?

I can't help with tracking down the "T" shaped antenna that plugs into the back of the G5, or an equivalent, but I can tell you that the wire that connects to the Airport card in my G5 disappears around the back of the motherboard.
It may have a metal ring on the other end but I can't see it.
I'm assuming you didn't buy the G5 new, because you are missing of the "T" shaped antenna which is supplied with the computer, so I'm guessing whoever had the G5 before you pulled the airport card out before disconnecting the antenna cable and ripped it from its mounting.
My guess is the metal ring is used to attach it somehow.

• Airport Card don't appears

I've installed an Airport Card (2003 M8881LL/A) in my Power Mac G5 7,2 and it don't appears in the System-Profiler.
The OS is 10.5.8.

Open System Preferences>Network, see if new port detected pops up, or click on the little plus icon after unlocking the lock & see if you can add Airport.

Do not re-install as it will be a waste of time. You can try SMC/ PRAM resets to start with and see if it works.
SMC
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
PRAM
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not work if your not scared to take the bottom case off do it, and see it the cable came unplugged. If it is not it could be bad MLB, Airport card, or flex cable.

• Macbook airport card keeps swapping between airport express stations

Hi
i have set up a network with 4 airport expresses.1 is the WDS main and is connected to the internet, 2 is configured as a relay with no client access, 3 is a client of the relay and is wired for airtunes, 4 is a remote and allows client connections.
Everything works except i noticed constant drop outs on all machines.
I ran AP grapher and i can see that Airport is connecting to 4 remote station with very strong signal and then for no reason switches automatically to the 1 base station and back again after a few minutes. The signal for the base station in ap grapher is -66 vs -39 for the remote station.
why does airport switch like this? Is there a way i can make it lock on the strongest signal or specific mac address?
Thanks for anyone's help.

There are two different versions of Flash, the '''''ActiveX''''' version for IE and the '''Plugin''' version used by most other browsers.
1.Download the Flash Plugin version setup file from here:
[http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version].
Save it to your Desktop.
2. Close Firefox using File > Exit
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed,
{XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
* On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen).
Any ideas?

I had an issue redeeming a gifted song exactly like this.
I logged out of the iTunes store completely (click on your email address, and go to 'sign out'), then logged in again. It worked fine. I'd suggest that first.

It is possible that these emails are phishing attempts. Do NOT click any link in the email. The phishers are very clever in that they seem to follow Apple Graphic Design Standards to near perfection. A sure way to tell is to examine any link the email contains for its target URL. If it does not point to the apple.com domain - NOT just contain the word "apple"in it 'somewhere - but point to the Apple web presence - it is most certainly phishing. If you determine that it is phishing, you can and should FORWARD the email to [email protected] > then DELETE with Prejudice. • Airport card not seeing networks after IP address clash

Hi - I have a wireless network that works fine, just reset it up again and my two mac laptops connect perfectly well to it, as they always did. The reason I set it up again was that my desktop intel mac pro (my main computer) was giving an error message, that another device on my network had the same IP address as my Airport card, and that it therefore couldn't connect to my wireless network (which has been set up so that the various devices are given their own IP addresses automatically in Bridge Mode). I have never seen this before. I repeatedly tried 'renew DHCP lease' in system preferences - it had no effect so I set up the network again from scratch to see if that would help. Still nothing. The mac pro cannot see either of the two Airport Extremes in my network using airport utility and nor will it connect to the new network when I put in the name and password - again, I have tried repeatedly. The Airport icon in system preferences is orange.
The airport card has never reported any problems and Apple hardware test (as well as the programme that came with Applecare) indicates that it's working normally. There are also no hardware problems with the Mac Pro according to the same tests.
Does anyone on this forum know what I can do to connect the Mac Pro to the wireless network? (I don't have the option of trying to use it as the computer that sets up the network, as it's located a long way from the telephone connection, so that is done using Airport Utility via one of the laptops).

Deleting the keychain with Keychain access worked.
I still can't click on options nor see preferred networks, but now the new keychain I made is finally staying around after reboot and auto connecting me to my home network.
Thank you for the help. I did accidentally delete ALL my keychains, but that's just as well as I probably had other clutter in there as well.

• Airport card not picking up any signals after IP configuration changed

Just had cable internet installed in my apartment, and in the course of setting up the IP configuration for the built-in ethernet connection, my airport card has stopped recognizing wireless networks in my building. Before I changed these settings, the card was working, and there are several networks in the building that it recognized. Now, it recognizes none. The menu appears in the top bar, and I can turn the airport on and off, but it simply is not picking up any signals whatsoever.
I have tried a handful of tactics, including changing the Airport TCP/IP configuration in several different ways, rebooting several times, and even removing and reinserting the Airport card.
For info: I'm using an iBook G3 with OS 10.2.8. (I know, pretty old, but it's still chugging along...)
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure. What's strange is that the very same computer was picking up signals (not accessing them b/c they were all password protected), recognizing networks in the area at least, before I played with the other IP configuration settings. Now it picks up none. It shows that there are none in the area, even though I know that there are.
Also, often, when I click on the Airport icon in the menu bar, the computer hangs for up to a minute before the menu actually pops up.
I have an Airport Express unit that I have hooked up to the cable modem, and my Airport card won't even recognize that signal. I'm just not sure what I changed that made it go haywire. I've been using this computer on wireless networks for the entire time I've owned it. Never had this problem before yesterday.
Thanks for any additional suggestions anyone can offer.
