Hello nosaint1961,
It sounds like you are unable to successfully boot your computer to your desktop. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot what is happening named:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1367
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Is this an iWeb problem or something else?

I normally publish a website to an ftp server using iWeb.
Its worked fine for a couple of years but recently when I try to publish it does its stuff, says its publishing in the background but then fails to upload.  I've talked to the company which hosts the domain and they can log in fine, as can I using Template, but I am not techno-skilled enough to publish the site using text.
Can anyone tell me whether this is an iWeb software problem or something else, and how to sort it?  Many thanks!
    Nic

Log in to another user account on your Mac, copy your domail file into the other user account and see if you can launch iWeb  and publish it to a folder.  If you can't then the problem is system wide and an reinstall of iWeb is warranted.
To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iWeb" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder.
Then install iWeb from the disk it came on originally and appy all needed updaters: Apple - Support - Downloads.
If you can publish successfully in the other account then that indicates there's something in your account that's the culprit.  There is a test for that so let us know if you can or can't publish in the other account.
As for Flux just download and start using it.  It will tell you that you have 30 days of demo mode. I suggest you watch the video tutorials at the Flux site and the few 3rd party flux videos on YouTube. I found them to be quite helpful.
Even though it can open your published iWeb site files I suggest you start a new site from scratch to get a feel of the software.  iWeb sites are extermely complex and might scare you (it did me) into not going much further.  You can learn more by starting a new site from scratch or one if Flux's templates.

  • Flashing icon - battery problems? Something else?

Hopefully I have, at last, found the right forum...My lime clamshell iBook, running system 9.2.2, froze yesterday, and when I restarted, a flashing folder with a ?, switching with a folder with the Mac two-facing-profiles symbol, was on the screen. I have never had this symbol ever.
I found my hardware test disk and tested the system -- no probs. But the flashing folder remained whenever I restarted.
Over on the OS 9 board, there is a discussion about this flashing icon previous to my crisis today, and the group said an internal battery is the problem. I asked exactly what model I needed for my old iBook (I'm in Germany, and the Mac store here needs exact names and numbers for anything to do with my old system). I was told "Your lime iBook ca. 2000 machine has the Apple designation of iBook (Firewire). That model, like all iBook models, does not have a separate backup (internal) battery such as some PowerBook models and all desktop models have. The only battery the iBook models have is the main battery." A poster suggested I head over here on this branch of the forum and seek advice. But I posted to the wrong portion of this branch so, hopefully, this is the right one.
Someone on the other branch said something about resetting something... but if I can't turn the computer on (past the flashing icon), then how can I reset anything?
I JUST replaced this battery, not a year ago. But about six months ago, it started losing all power after just an hour or so, and I would have to reset the clock, etc. when the power just suddenly ended when my computer was unplugged. Now, I can't unplug my computer at all except for a few minutes, otherwise, the batter just quits suddenly, poof. I put the old battery back in today, but it didn't help.

I'm not sure what you are reading but it doesn't sound like a battery problem. It sounds like the iBook can't find a valid system folder to start from.
In KB 58042, A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac under "Steps for Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9" you will find the following:
The possible causes and solutions for this symptom appear in the order that you should try them. If any step resolves the issue, you don't need to continue to the next one. If at any time in this process you determine that your System Folder or its contents are missing or were intentionally deleted, reinstall Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9.
If you normally start up from Mac OS 9 but don't have a Mac OS 9 CD that can be used as a startup disk, follow the steps for Mac OS X above. Some computers include Mac OS X Installation CDs and a Mac OS 9 Restore CD that can't be used as a startup disk. Once you've started up from Mac OS X, make sure a copy of Mac OS 9 is installed. If you erased your disk since the last time you started up in Mac OS 9, you may need to need to install Mac OS 9 drivers.
Start the computer from the Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 Installation or Restore CD that came with the computer.
Open the Utilities folder and locate Disk First Aid.
Open Disk First Aid and repair the disk.
Open the Startup Disk control panel.
Choose your hard disk as the startup disk.
    Restart the computer.
Note: If your hard disk is not available (mounted) when started up from CD, reset the PRAM as described below, then repeat these steps. If your hard disk is still not available after resetting PRAM, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Technical Support.
If you can't choose your hard disk in the Startup Disk control panel, your System Folder may have been altered or removed. In some cases, you may solve the issue by moving files back into the correct location in a process known as "reblessing" the System Folder. A "blessed" System Folder is one that is recognized as a valid startup System Folder, as indicated by the appearance of the Mac OS logo badge on the System Folder.
Reblessing the System Folder only works when all the original files are still installed and in the correct location (or you can put them back in the correct location). If any files have been deleted, you may need to reinstall system software. If you have deliberately removed System Folder files, this includes putting them back where you found them.
Additionally, you should only have one folder named "System Folder" on your disk (not to be confused with the folder named simply "System" that is installed by Mac OS X, if both systems are installed on the same disk).
    To rebless your System Folder:
    Start up from CD.
    Close any open windows.
    Open the hard disk.
Choose By Name from the View menu.
Locate the System Folder. Tip: You should only have one System Folder. If necessary, rename any other "System Folder" you're not using. Don't rename "System" if Mac OS X is also installed.
Open the System Folder. At this time, you should replace any items that you have previously removed from the System Folder, if applicable.
    Do one of the following:
->If Mac OS X is not installed or is installed on a different volume than Mac OS 9, drag the System suitcase and the Finder to your hard disk icon. If you have more than one hard disk, drag the files to the hard disk where the System Folder is.
->If Mac OS X is installed on the same volume or partition as Mac OS 9, create a new folder outside of the System Folder but on the same disk, then drag the System suitcase and the Finder to the new folder.
    Close the System Folder.
Drag the System suitcase and Finder back onto the System Folder icon.
When the Mac OS logo reappears over the System Folder, it has been reblessed. Select the folder in the Startup Disk control panel, then restart the computer.

To back to the normal scale you have to disable the parallax.
Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion (turn off)
You won't be able to put the wallpepr out of frame as ios 6 (earlier), but it stop to putting the annoying zoom.

I bought a used macbook pro from a friend. Software updates are available, but when I try to update, the computer asks for apple id and will only accept the former owner´s. How can I connect my macbook to my apple id?

The first thing you should do after acquiring a used computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, it should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.

  • Z10 Screen goes blank, when restarted now rotates between blackberry screen and blue loading screen

Last week I was having issues with my blackberry where the screen was going blank and I had to restart the phone. I had recently installed a software update and so when I took it into Telus the guy explained that the sotware may not hae installed correctly so he walked me through the blackberry restore steps via blakcberry link. So I did restore my blackberry.
But a couple days later, it's back to its old tricks - the screen just goes black and I have to restart it. The trouble it is won't currently restart. At the moment it is rotating between the black and white "Blackberry" screen and the blue loading screen.
Was I unlucky enough to have the software install incorrectly both times, or is there something else going on?

Blue loading screen? That is hardly known to be a "loading screen".... does the device get out of the blue screen by itself or you have to intervene?

Yes, your battery is likely toast and in need of replacement.  Not much else for troubleshooting here.  Sorry.

I am an activist when it comes to rip-offs and I intend to set up a group to pressure the Ausralian government to legislate to make all computer software producers to make all new software compatible with all old software AT NO COST to the user.
I thought about that myself, but when it comes to Windows XP. It is peculiar that software companies get away with "selling" software that suddenly stops working properly. The problem with XP is of course an environmental one as well. There is a huge number of fully functional PCs that suddenly are no longer supported by Microsoft, and that are not powerful enough to take newer supported MS operating systems. What MS basically recommends people is to throw them away with a horrible cost for our environment.

Can smbody please tell me what to do to my iPhone 4s, when playing music or ringer, the sound will just stop without stop it.. I am really getting tired of this...

After updating to iOS6, I lost all sound for apps like YouTube, Netflix, games, and even notifications. The only time sound worked was during a phone call or when the head set was plugged in.
I did a full back up and restore- sound restored but only for a day before the problem returned.
Called Apple Support and was advised to do another restore, but this time restore it as NEW first, then do the restore from back up.
    Seemed to do the trick.
Here are the instructions of what I was given- hopefully this will help you too:
Here is a link about backing up your iPhone with iTunes.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
Once you back up your device you will want to restore it.
You will need to have iTunes open on your computer screen.
    Please turn your iPhone off.
Press and hold the Home Button.
Continue to hold the Home Button as you plug you iPhone in to the usb cable.
You will want to continue to hold the Home button until you get a screen with the message "device found in recovery mode".
Please follow the prompts and restore device as NEW.
once the restore is done you will have to set up the device and test the sound.
If it works you will then need to restore the device from the back up to restore your user settings.
You can find the instructions how to restore from back up also from the the link I provided.

It's a Magic Mouse question. I have set this up in Preferences by ticking Swipe between pages with one finger and also Swipe between full-screen apps with two fingers,  however when I try to do the latter, the 2 finger swipe will take me from the app that I am on to the dashboard only and not to my other open apps.
I also find that Smart zoom only works with some apps, for instance not with Word docs or email.
How can I correct this please?

Just figured out it also does not work with the Mail app.

I have had the same problem as yours on my Ipad after upgraded Procreate 2.01. My iOS is 7.04. I tried to find solution from internet for weeks. Fortunately, the problem was resolved a few minutes ago. It is very simple,
    1. Lunch outlook.com to confirm you can access hotmail mailbox. It means your account is Ok.
    2. Go to setting>Mail,Contacts,Calendars.Delete your hotmail account from your device.(my device is Ipad)
    3. Turn off your device, then turn on again.
    4. Go to setting>Mail,Contacts,Calendars and create your hotmail account by tap outlook.com. Be sure the incoming mail server is pop3.live.com.
    5. Waiting for validation.
That's all. Hope my experience is helpful. Good luck!
