My macbook crashed???? after an apple update

I received a message from Apple saying I needed to update some software. It was on Wednesday, May 28th. I believe it was updating my Safari. After the update, the computer shut down and will not come back up. When I turn it on, I can hear the sound as if it were turning on.........I see the Apple logo and the swirl as if it were coming on and then it just goes to a blue screen. I can't get the computer to come up to my home page. I have a MacBook and OSX software. The model is Macbook 2,1. I followed the directions in my little book that came with the computer to check my hardware........I was able to do an extended Apple Hardware test. After about an hour it came back with the diagnosis that there was no trouble noted. Any idea how I can get my computer to come back up. I hear some people have problems with this after an apple update.

Sometimes software updates an go awry if you don't run Disk Utility and repair permissions first.
Aside from that, grab your install disk and run Disk Utility and make sure there aren't errors on the disk.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
