My Macbook doesn't find my AirPort wireless network anymore

I have a strange problem with my Macbook and/or AirPort Express. This combination has worked fine until now, but yesterday the Macbook suddenly couldn't find the network anymore. This happened while I was surfing. I haven't installed any programs recently or changed any settings.
When I click on the AirPort-icon it lists all my neighbours networks, but not mine. I have no problems connecting to other networks, I have successfully tried this both at work and some of my neighbours networks.
My old Dell Windows PC however have no problems finding and connecting to my network! I'm using it right now. So it's just the combination Macbook and AirPort Express that's problematic.
Things I have tried unsuccessfully:
- Restarting the Macbook, my cable modem and the AirPort Express (numerous times and in different orders)
- "Join Other Network" and entered the name of the network and password manually. This only results in an "Connection timeout"-error message.
- Deleted the network name from "Preferred Networks". This made the Macbook actually list my network for a few seconds every time I restart or turn AirPort off and on again. It disappears again very quickly and I can't connect to it.
- Changing security, I have tried open, WEP and WPA.
- Factory reset of the AirPort Express and creating a new wireless network with a new name. I had to do this on the Windows PC because the Macbook didn't find it. I was even able to connect to this network with the Macbook for a little while. It wasn't listed in the network list, but I could connect via Join Other Network. Unfortunately it only lasted until the Macbook went to sleep. Since then I haven't been able to connect to the network and I can only see it for a few seconds every time I restart. The Dell Windows PC has no problems with this network.
I have no idea what the problem is or whether the problem is the Macbook or the AirPort Express since they both work fine separately.
Any ideas for things I haven't tried?

I'm having the same problems recently. Bought my white MacBook in Jan. '09, worked great for several months; now it won't stay on the Internet for more than five minutes at a time unless I'm right next to the router. The Airport icon, when selected, shows my network but for some reason it has been deselected. My husband's Dell has no problem at all, even if he's out on the back porch, so it's not a signal issue.
I've updated the software to the latest Airport but that seems to have made it worse. I've tried nearly all the things Solvi did to no avail. Has there been an answer yet from Apple on this?
(Had to re-select network to sent this short post!!)

  • My Macbook doesn't pick up my wireless network.

My Macbook has no problem picking up other wireless networks: when I go to campus it picks up the university wireless network just fine.
All the other devices in the house (another macbook, two iphones) do pick up my wireless network.
When I open airport utility on my computer, it can't find the network.

They may have different WiFi cards installed and the antennas are in all likely hood different.
    Ciao.

  • My airport utility says it cannot find any airport wireless devices, even though I am accessing the net via my wifi.  What's up with this?

My airport utility says it cannot find any airport wireless devices, even though I am accessing the net via my wifi.  What's up with this?  Also, I cannot connect to my Photosmart b209a printer, though a different computer - same Macbook Pro can.  I tried redownloading the software, but in the setup I get a "device not reachable" message:  "However to continue configuring the device in network, your Mac must have access to the device. So please make sure that your Mac has access to the Network ..."  I've checked my network on the system preferences and it's properly connected.  I'm on the net as I do this.  Tis very frustrating, and any assistance woud be appreciated.

Airport Utility is for administration of genuine Apple Base Stations. If you have a different Brand, Airport Utility can do nothing for you.
    I think they're using ethernet.
To connect a Printer via Ethernet, no password is needed.
We already tried the password for the internet and that did not work...
If a password is required to connect to the Internet, then WiFi is likley being used, and that WiFi password is the one needed for the Printer connect wirelessly as well.
What make&model Printer? Is it indeed a Wireless Printer? Most connect via USB, but that would force it to use a specific computer to assist in printing.

  • "Airport Utility was unable to find your airport wireless device"

I recently bought an Airport Extreme to replace a D-Link DGL4300. My network is as follows: DSL > Modem > Airport Extreme > Ethernet and Wireless clients (wireless clients include my iMac and my wife's MacBook). This worked fine for about 2 weeks, until my wife's MacBook started having connectivity issues. I did a soft reset on the Airport Extreme, and . . . poof. No internet for anyone. I did a hard reset and used the saved profile that had previously worked (for at least my computer), and after the Airport Extreme restarted, I received the dreaded "Airport Utility was unable to find your airport wireless device". I have repeated this cycle several times with complete power-downs of the modem, the Airport Extreme and all clients, with no change in result.
What's odd is that even though Airport Utility can't find the Airport Extreme, my home network works fine (i.e., all clients can talk to an internal media server and each other), but there is no internet at all. Any ideas?

Until you can complete the configuration process, try connecting your Mac to the AirPort Extreme with an Ethernet cable to see if that allows AirPort Utility to see the Extreme.

  • I have just acquired an iMac desktop. I want to sign on to my airport wireless network, but cannot remember the password. How can I access the password or reset it. I already use a MacBook Pro and an iPad on the network.

I have just acquired an iMac desktop (about 4 years old). I want to connect to my Apple airport wireless network, but cannot remember the password. How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it. I already use a MacBook Pro and an iPad on the network and don't want to jeopardize what already works well. I am not all that computer literate.

How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it.
Read the user manual that came w/your Airport router or you can cross-post in one of the  AirPort Forums for instructions.

  • Airport Utility can no longer find my airport wireless devices

I have sucessfully installed a new Airport Extreme and Airport Express in the house and everything including iPad, Apple TV, Sonos and iPhones are all connect up and running fine.
I am using a Laptop running Windows 8 that is also connected and on line.
I tried to connect a WD external hard drive this morning. Since then when I open the Airport Utility on my Laptop an error message appears stating that "Airport Utility unable to find any Airport wireless devices."
This isn't creating any real problem as I dont have an urgent need to access the Utility programe but does anyone know why this error has occurred and what I can do to rectufy the problem?

Turn of the MG and unplug the power cord. Leave it off for about a minute and then reconnect the power cord and turn the power back on. Wait while the device attempts to reconnect to your wireless network - the blue wifi symbol on the MG will flash and then stay on once it has connected. If it keeps flashing then you will have to reconnect the MG to your wireless access point via the control panel on the MG.

  • Airport utility was unable to find any airport wireless device

Installed Airport Extreme connected to my PC running XP Pro. Configured my wireless network successfully. Updated to Aiport Utility for Windows ver 5.5.2 and the Airport Utility shows the 'unable to find an Airport wireless device' message and the 'Rescan' button. I uninstalled the upgraded Utility software, unplugged the Airport Extreme, installed the original software from the supplied disc, held down the reset button while plugging the power back in and waited till I got the amber/green fast flashing lights at which time I released the reset button.  No change. Then upgraded the Airport Utility back to 5.5.2 and still no change.  I can connect to the web from my PC and to an open wireless network named Apple Network f9561d.
Any help getting access to my Airport Extreme greatly appreciated. Thx

PC was/is always directly connected to Airport Extreme via ethernet. Windows XP Pro firewall always has been disabled (double checked). No firewall software.  Disabled PC Tools malware protector.  No virus protection or scanning software.
Only things showing in toolbar are NVidia Settings, Windows Volume Control, Network Connection icon,Safely Remove Hardware Icon and the time.
Don't have anything running that would block any ports.
Airport Utility for Windows is version 5.5.2.
Did another factory(?) reset as described before and pressed 'Rescan' button 15 times with no change. Devices connected via wireless are Nexus smartphone & HP laptop running Vista. All can access Internet, but slowly.
Tried rebooting PC several times with no difference. Tried plugging the PC ethernet cable into different ports in the Airport Extreme before I realized that I could always access the Internet from the PC so I was wasting my time : )
Tonite I unhooked my DLink wireless router, hooked up the Airport Extreme, installed the software, configured the network (perfectly) and then checked for and installed the
Airport Utility software upgrade (no others). As soon as it finished installing, I ran it and ended up with the error. I didn't install anything else or even run any other software. I saved the configuration, checked for and installed the upgrade.  I haven't changed ANY settings on the PC or run any software other than Firefox to create my Apple account to report this problem.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Trying to set up time capsule but keep getting message stating airport utility was unable to find any airport wireless device. What do I do know?

Trying to set up my time capsule on my imac.
Keep getting message "Airport utility was unable to find any airport wireless devices."
    What do I do now?

When having difficulties accessing the Time Capsule (TC) via the AirPort Utility, try the following, in order checking accessibility with the utility after each step:
Check the local connection. If you are trying to access the TC wirelessly, make sure that you are connected to its wireless network before running the AirPort Utility to administer it. If you are still unable to access it with the utility, temporarily connect your computer directly using an Ethernet cable to one of the TC's LAN ports.
Power cycle the base station. Remove the power adapter's plug from the power outlet, and then, wait 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
Perform a "factory default" reset on the base station.
Finally, if you are attempting to access the TC via an Ethernet connection, be sure that your Ethernet port is NOT configured for Jumbo Frames, i.e., using an MTU of 9000+.

  • I have had a time capsule for years and it worked well.  Now my airport utility states it is unable to find any airport wireless devices.  When I rescan, I get the same response.  I access the internet wirelessly through my Time Capsule - that part works.

My time capsule is currently not backing up my MAC.  My airport utility states it can't find any airport wireless devices.  But I can access the internet via my time capsule.  I was trying to reset my time capsule but it won't let me since the airport utiity states it can't find any airport wireless devices.

i was having the same problem. i held the reset button on my airport express for ten seconds, waited for it to restart and than unplugged my internet modem for 15 seconds and waited for it to restart and my wireless worked. but when i go to setup everything through the airport utility everything goes to crap and i have to start over again. i don't get it.

  • AirPort utility unable to find any AirPort wireless devices

    Hi All,
I have an issue I have no idea how to resolve. I recently purchased a 2TB Time capsule and after a few teething issues have had it working as both router and external storage. I have spent the last 2 weeks transferring all my media to this for central access from all networked computers.
Its been running fine the whole time until today. For some reason my internet connection was dropped. I turned off the TC and my Modem, and then restarted in the right order.
WiFi connection is Excellent. I can connect to my mapped TC drive, but I cannot connect to either the internet (my network is now only allowing 'Local Connection') and the Airport utility is unable to find any Airport wireless devices. I was hoping i'd be able to see an issue through the utility but it cant even recognise the device!
I am yet to do a hard re-set of the TC as I want to avoid having to go through the network set up again and I assume this is the information that is lost? I'm also concerned I will lose the content of the TC and i really dont have the time or the patience to go through that exercise again.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    Thanks for the quick response!
My Modem is not the issue in this case as I have already connected via network cable directly to it and am using it to connect to the internet now.
I had issues with IP conflict etc when setting up the network and suspect something similar this time, except I cant even open the TC to check the set up as AirPort utilities cant see it.
I think I have the TC doing the routing as all periphrals attached to the network were getting a 10.0.1.x  IP address, but I have to confess this is not my forte and neither is pinging things as I dont understand any of the information that comes back!
I assume the hard re-set option is a last resort? I'm tempted to just do it as I cant see I'll be any worse off than now... but I'll hold off and do the proper diagnosis.
Unfortunately I'm away for the next 2 days so wont get this resolved before then... I have the internet hard wired so that will keep the wife happy... but i will look into this further and report back with more details on my return.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • My Windows Vista Computer is unable to find any AirPort wireless devices

My Windows Vista computer is unable to find any AirPort wireless devices.   I just set this up using another (different) computer and it works fine on that one...

Per chance was the other computer that was able to "find" the AirPort base station another Win Vista device or another using another OS?

  • ? regarding resetting password in Airport Wireless Network.

? regarding resetting password in Airport Wireless Network.
I am using comcast cable and have a netgear wireless router to access the internet. In my airport network preferrences I have a network name and a password which is working well on my brand new Macbook. However, I would like to use this same network for my old ibook G4 and here is the problem.
When I open the airport on the ibook I scroll through the list pick my network name and then it opens "the selected airport network requires a password to join" and asks for my password. It gives the wireless security " WPA personal" and asks for a password only.
I enter the password and it says it is not correct.
What could be going wrong with this??
Can I reset the password on the new Macbook and resolvethe problem?
    Any info. would be appreciated.

Most likely I'm thinking that the Netgear router is using something other than WPA personal (WPA enterprise, WPA 2 comes to mind...) and that your iBook's Airport card doesn't support this later encryption. Try going into your router's setting and changing the security settings. (Although some may argue that this poses a greater security risk. Just avoid WEP and you should be good.)

  • MacBook can't see my home wireless network after upgrade to OSX 10.8.5

After upgrading to OSX 10.8.5, my MacBook does not detect any wireless nertworks. My iPad and iPhone work fine, my router has been rebooted, WiFi is turned on, and the ethernet connection is how I am writing this message to you via broadband. There are a half dozen wireless networks in range (according to my iPhone) but the MacBook cannot find the router I am sitting next to. Any ideas on how to correct this issue?

It appears an SMC reset was required:
HT5815 I've just done the 10.8.5 update on my MacBook Pro end of 2008, and WiFi don't work after reboot... Impossible to activate it...
Here is your other post: MacBook can't see my home wireless network after upgrade to OSX 10.8.5
If you reply to it and marked it "solved", perhaps with a link to that post (copy and paste it, or just say you performed the SMC reset) it will help others find a solution. Thanks!
