My MacBook G4 and a networked Canon iR2200

Hi
I am trying to connect to a Canon iR2200 (the name on the faceplate) copier/printer/scanner at my work, and am determined to get the latter two functions to work on my Mac. It si becoming an obsession with me. Please help?
The Canon is connected via an ethernet cable straight to the company's LAN. My PowerBook is too, and I am able to use file services on the Win 2003 file server on the network, print to the Lexmark printer that advertises via Bonjour, use the Exchange mail server, browse the Net, pretty much everything except use the printer/scanner features of this Canon.
I can also connect to the printer via a browser, and there it presents as "Device Name: iR2200" and "Product Name: iR2200".
- Under Device>Protocol, TCP/IP and SMB are marked as active, but NetWare as inactive:
- - Under TCP on that page, "Use LPD:" is "On", as are "Use RAW:", "Use IPP:", and "Use HTTP:".
- - Under SMB, "Use SMB:" is "On", "Server:" has the value of the name of the Win2003 file server, and "Workgroup:" has the value of the workgroup I connect to for file services. "Printer:" is empty and "LM Announce:" is "On".
- Under Add. Func.>Custom Settings>Network Settings:
- - Under "TCP/IP Settings", none of the check boxes for "Enable DHCP", "Enable RARP", and "Enable BOOTP" are checked.
- - Under "SNMP Settings", the "Use SNMP" check box is ticked.
- - Under "Enable Dedicated Port", the "Enable Dedicated Port" check box is ticked.
I found no options for "PS" or "PostScript" on any of these pages.
All my colleagues use Windows, and there, the Canon is presented under "Printers and Faxes" as "Canon iR2220" for some reason. Under properties, "Model:" is "Canon iR2220/iR3320 PCL5e". Which kind of suggests connecting to it as a PS printer from the PowerBook might be less than fruitful.
I have downloaded the 1.60 driver, 1.80 driver, and the 2.10 PPDs. I first tried running System Preferences>Print & Fax and selecting the iR2200-3300 and iR 2220-3320 PPDs in various combinations with Printer Browser>Default Browser, Printer Browser>IP Printer and the following Printer Browser>More Printers:
- AppleTalk
- Canon IP (PS)
- Advanced (holding down 'option' when selecting More Printers), and using the printer's ip address:
- - Canon Mac PS Printer
- - Internet Printing Protocol using HTTP
- - Internet Printing Protocol using IPP
- - LPD/LPR Host or Printer
- - Windows Printer via SAMBA
Most yielded a "The selected printer connection method is incorrect. Select the correct printer connection in Printer List, and then try to add the printer again", some actually printed pages, but only with the text "error courred = -9786", "SYSTEM %%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand]%%" (a PostScript error?) or spewing outr dozens of pages with small scribbles and some but most of them empty.
So, for my sanity: Help?

Thank you for your reply. However, I never did get this to work under Tiger.
Now I have upgraded to Leopard, which went fairly smoothly, all things considered.
While installing, I remembered your post, and selected all HP printer drivers to be installed.
The adding-a-printer ritual has changed under 10.5.1, so this is how the first try went down:
1. Opened a document in "TextEdit" and selected "File">"Print".
2. Selected "Add a Printer" from the "Printer" drop-down menu.
3. Under the "Default" tab, "Canon iR2220" appeared right away at the top of the list, which I found promising, but with "Kind" listed as "AppleTalk".
4. I selected the Canon anyway and, since there was no "HP Laserjet 5 Series, Gimp-Print" to be had in the "Print Using" drop-down menu, I selected "Select a driver to use..." and then "HP Laserjet Series PCL 4/5, 1.3".
5. I then clicked "Add", which closed the dialog box, and then clicked "Print" in the underlying dialog box, closing that one too.
The Canon immediately sprang to life, and spewed out a single page, which reads:
SYSTEM
%%[Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: E&I6D&k12H&IO0 (and this goes on until the end of line)
%%[Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
So that didn't work.
I then deleted this printer and tried again, this time following your suggestions more closely:
1. Opened a document in "TextEdit" and selected "File">"Print".
2. Selected "Add a Printer" from the "Printer" drop-down menu.
3. Clicked on the "IP" tab, and selected "HP Jetdirect - Socket" under "Protocol".
4. There, I entered the printer's IP address under "Address:".
5. There was still no "HP Laserjet 5 Series, Gimp-Print" to be had in the "Print Using" drop-down menu, I selected "Select a driver to use..." and then "HP Laserjet Series PCL 4/5, 1.3".
6. I then clicked "Add", which closed the dialog box, and then clicked "Print" in the underlying dialog box, closing that one too.
Again, the Canon immediately sprang to life, and this time it spewed out...
...my document! Intact! Yay!!
Thank you for solving my problem. I really appreciate it.
Next on the list: Get the scanner to work... Any ideas?

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Macbook Pro and Windows Network Printing

My family just had their PC's hooked up wirelessly on a network. Printing and everything else was all set up wirelessly also. The computer and the laptop work just fine, but for some reason we can't get my mac to hook up to the printing network. We can share itunes and internet, it's just the printing that won't work.
Any suggestions? We had a computer tech come out to help us set it up, but he couldn't figure it out either.
Thanks, I appreciate all the help I can get.

I sort of have the same problem. I have a desktop computer running Windows XP with all the latest drivers and an HP PSC 1315 All-In-One printer attached via USB to the desktop. I have been trying to install or add the printer using my MacBook via the home network (wirelessly via the router). I have tried several of the offered methods such as adding via windows and IP address. I do see the printer and upon adding it, it asks for a username and password, to my knowledge, we do not have one setup. I have also tried to add it as a guest. It still won't let me add and successfully print from my MacBook to the HP PSC 1315. Does anyone have an idea to solve this problem? Thank you very much.

  • Macbook Pro and iMac Networking

    Hi
I have a new Macbook Pro which I am using to take to the office and at home I have an iMac. I have worked out how to share the computers so I can use the documents on both.
I am working with Adobe INDD and picked up the file on the iMac, saved it but then it looses any new work I have done. I went back to the Macbook pro and it had saved it there. That was fine but then I couldn't open it again on my iMac.
When I finally found it and opened it again, started working, saved (tried saving with a new name too) it then lost all the new work again.
I am not sure if I am doing anything wrong and have looked for tutorials on how to work over both but unable to find anything easily. Can anyone point me in the right direction or give me some tips please.
I have Yosemite on both computers.
    Thank you.

It very well could be the antivirus app, most are intrusive and debilitate rather than enhance performance and should be removed using the developers instructions. You haven't really told us anything useful such as any settting you may have changed. However if you began working backwards resetting any changes and uninstalling the apps added since the performance issue started then you probably will find your issue.

  • HT204135 I have a MacBook Air and bought a Canon MP495 printer scanner with WiFI. Since the Mac gas no disk drive and had to down load the printer, scanner drivers and a navigation and network software from Canon's website. How do I get the software to wo

I have down loaded printer, scanner drivers and 2 applications Navigator and Network from Canon's website. I cannot seem to get these to run althought the printer works when connected to the Mac with a LAN cable Canon's documentation is useless because it relies on downloading a disc which you cannot do without a CD drive that MacBook Air does not have. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi John. Thanks for that input. At Step 6, after clicking "Next" I get a window telling me my OS version is unsupported and the installation may not complete. I am prompted to go to Canon's web site to "Check Latest Info".
I've had this window on previous attempts and from Canon's web site I downloaded two drivers as follows
    - ICA Driver V4.0.0
    - Canon IJ Network Tool V4.5.0
I'm not sure if these are the correct / complete drivers I need for this install or not.
I continue to follow all the steps. At step 9 I click "Wireless Set Up using USB" amd get a License Agreement (a little different than instructions)
I click "Agree" and it goes to a Setup window with two progress bars showing the installation. I've not been prompted to connect the USB?
After the Setup window is done, I am then prompted to connect the printer via USB. I connect the printer and click on "Redetect". It is not detected.
I then try following the Canon on screen instructions for connecting to the wireless LAN amd enter the password. It searches and indicates "Connecting" on the window, but it never connects and the blue light just blinks
So, at this point I am stuck??
    Thanks

  • Macbook Pro and Windows-connected Canon MX860 printer

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
I have a Canon MX860 wireless printer that is connected to a Windows computer and can be used by any Windows computer on my network. One of my users has recently added a MacBook Pro (Mac OSx 10.6.2, MacBook Pro 5,5) and we aren't having the same luck.
I tried the IP tab, using both the IP option on the dropbox and the second option (the machine's not in front of me right now). I entered the IP address and tried selecting the Canon MX860 software, but when I hit Add, it lowered and raised a box too quickly for me to see it. This didn't work at all.
I then tried the Windows tab, and it found the networked printer. I selected the Canon MX860 Series driver. It seemed to setup alright, and didn't throw up an error, but it just wouldn't communicate with the printer. Actually, there were two printers found: Canon MX86 and Canon MX86.2. Apparently, the 86.2 is a Fax machine. When set up as the printer, if I tried to print something, it caused a warning message on the Windows machine saying "fax machine not configured" or some such. So, the Mac can communicate with the printer. It just won't print when pointed to the MX86.
I got the latest drivers for the printer today, and even tried downloading the IJ Network Tool on the Mac. It seems like installing software on the Mac is only supposed to be done if the printer is to be connected to it, but I'm not sure. I don't know much about Macs at all at this point.
I'm probably not making this too clear, but any help would be appreciated. Just let me know what other information I need to provide.
    Thanks.

  • Macbook not printing to my wireless networked Canon MX860

    Hi folks,
This is the set up : I have a wireless router (Belkin) connected to the cable modem. My Dell laptop (pc) connects to the internet wirelessly via the router as does my (my wife’s actually) Macbook.
I recently purchased a Canon Pixma MX860 so that both computers could take advantage of this wireless set up.
The Dell had no problem connecting to the printer via the initial setup i.e with USB and then subsequent wireless connection.
The Mac, however, found the various networks no problem, then found the SSID no problem but then could not find the printer on that SSID. Interestingly the LCD on the Canon, which goes into sleep mode after a period of inactivity, lights up again when the Mac is searching for the printer.
I have tried various suggestions such as removing the router to try and connect directly to the printer, setting up with the Dell turned off, reloading the drivers, downloaded the driver wizard from Canon.
Things I haven’t done… I have not set it up as a shared printer; I have not downloaded “Bonjour” because the printer is not directly (via usb) connected to any of the computers. But maybe these things have to be done????
    Any suggestions?

i can't believe how frustrating this is. I recently converted to a Mac and bought a Mac Book, iMac, Airport Extreme, and this printer. i have installed the canon software numerous times on my iMac to set up the wireless connection. yes, the airport extreme recognizes the printer and i am able to connect to my private and guest networks. the signal strength is good. It's the next part that I'm always stuck at. The Printer settings does not display when i choose More Printers and select Canon IJ Network. I called Apple support and we tried changing my network settings to an unsecured network and it still has the same issue. It was recommended this may be Canon driver issue and advised me to contact Canon. I reset the Airport, changed my network name and password .. i think i tried everything and it still does not work. What was I thinking when i said i wanted to convert to Mac? I can't move forward and connect my macbook or pc yet until I successfully connect the imac. Yes, i installed the latest canon IJ Network tool. of course the USB connection is fine but that defeats the whole purpose if why i bought this printer. please advise how to fix. this is getting very frustrating.

  • Time Capsule set up and wifi network OK but MacBook doesn't see capsule as airport device.  Do I need to do a hard reset and start again?

I recently bought a Time Capsule and sucessfully set it up in accordance with the instruction book.  The home network and guest network seem to work fine but my MacBook cannot find the Time Capsule wirelessley.
Initially I set up the time capsule connected to the MacBook with an ethernet cable.  The Time Machine got 30GB way through a 60GB initial back up and then stopped for no obvious reason.  Since then the capsule has not been visible to the MacBook.  I have tried to reconfigure through Airport Utility but even after reperated rescans the capsule remains invisible.
Any help would be extremely welcome.

    1. i would restore the express to factory defaut by holding the reset button on the unit with a paperclip while you are powering it on
    2. if it restored, you should be able to see it in your wifi icon at top of screen as "airport express"
or you can see it in airport utility
    3. then if you want to connect it wirelessly to your time capsule, you would choose "extend network" and put in relevant security and password....this would make the express a wireless access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)
if you chose to do it wired which is a better way if you have access to ethernet port at wall, you would choose "create a wireless network" and then under the "network" tab you would choose "Bridge Mode".....this would make the express a wired access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)

I am having some huge problems with my colorspace settings. Every time I upload my raw files from my Canon 5D mark II or 6D the pics are perfect in color. That includes the back of my camera, the pic viewer on my macbook pro, and previews. They even look normal when I first open them in photoshop. I will edit, save, and then realize once i've sent it to myself to test the color is WAY off. This only happens in photoshop. I've read some forums and have tried different things, but it seems to be making it worse. PLEASE HELP! Even viewing the saved image on the mac's pic viewer is way off once i've edited in photoshop. I am having to adjust all my colors by emailing myself to test. Its just getting ridiculous.

Check the color space in camera raw, the options are in the link at the bottom of the dialog box. Then when saving make sure you save it to the srgb color space when sending to others. Not all programs understand color space and or will default to srgb. That won't necessarily mean it will be accurate, but it will put it in the ballpark. Using save for web will use the srgb color space.

Not printing text only on Canon--grahics print ok.  Not printer problem.  Prints ok on a Brother and another network Apple prints ok on Canon.  Believe a computer setting was inadvertently reset.  What setting and how do I reset?

Without your printer model numbers, readers can only give you vague general directions.
    System Preferences > Print&Fax > ...
... shows a list of all set-up printers.
If you are having serious problems, it makes sense to "Reset the Printing System" (which also removes all printer set-ups) and add back each printer. It only takes a few minutes.

try disabling email scanning for incoming mail.
One of the last things that occurs is the mail server and Thunderbird sign off on "where we are up to" and Thunderbird stores this state information in the popstate.dat file in your profile (there is one in each POP mail account folder). If the anti virus, or you for that matter, end the conversation a few seconds early that hand off does not occur and the popstate is not stored.

Read the user manual that came w/your Airport router or you can cross-post in one of the  AirPort Forums for instructions.
