My macbook has recently started getting really hot after using it for a brief time, is there something wrong

Hi
My macbook has started getting really hot after using it for only maybe 10 minutes or so, it can go up to 73 degrees quite quickly, I am only surfing the net etc but have a few pages open at the same time.
Also should I switch it off after I finish using it or is it ok to leave it in sleep mode for long periods of time......
it is about 1 year old
thanks

First try a SMC reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If there is no change, install istat menus:
http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
Open Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and %CPU to display values from high to low.
Look for a process that consumes a large % of CPU.
You may post images of both for inspection.
Ciao.

• Macbook Air seems to get really hot after coming after sleep

Hello,
I recently purchased a macbook air and it seems to get really hot after coming out of sleep. Even in idle the CPU temp remains at approximatley 80 degrees celsius plus. The only fix to this seems to be restarting the computer. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you!

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

• Why is my 2011 imac getting really hot after being repaired twice?

My 27in 2011 Lion Imac is being wierd. I have always noticed that the Hard drive or fan would not turn off when put to sleep. Even when I would get up in the morning, it would still be on. The first time we got it repaired was when the computer would just crash, and eventually not even start up! We went to a local Mac dealer who also did repairs. They said that the circut board was totally burn out, and that they had replaced the power supply. We got home, and all was well untill two days later it just froze. We restarted it and kept on pushing but soon it was either freezing or a gray screen would roll down and say it has to be restarted. It also got so hot, that we could smell something burning. So we brought it back. This time they said that the directory was totally corrupted! So today we brought it home and all seems to be fine, although it seems to still be getting really hot after only an hour of use. When I listen cloesly to the machine it sounds like an electrical buzz. The buzz did fluxuate with the computer doing different tasks, so it could just be the preccessor or something. This is getting very annoying.
Are there any experts or people that have had similar problems and what they did to fix them? Thanks...
I have never had a Mac act this way.

If your iMac is still under AppleCare warranty, backup everything on your iMac, bring it back either to Apple or the repair center and kindly, but very, very strongly ask for a replacement iMac.
Your iMac has just got too many issues and components that failed.
Under AppleCare, you can ask for a one-time complete replacement.

My iPhone 5 gets really hot while using it.. its only my 2nd day with it is this normal?

I had same issue, apple give me a new phone, they say it might be software problem, but the 2nd phone has fast drain too, I took it to apple , they restored my phone as new, and iCloud backed up my contact. I thought about the whole thing, I used to sync it to my window, but this time I synced it with my Mac. 87% at 3:30pm. I think that window has bugs. It is not my iPhone 5's problem. After all those stressful days.

• Phone gets really hot while using the YouTube app.............

My iPhone gets really hot while using YouTube. Is/has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned?I did a search and only came up with threads talking about the phone getting warm while charging, my phone does not get hot/warm while charging, only when using YouTube and sometimes while using Safari. Any input will be greatly appreciated!

When connected via WiFi or EDGE or no difference.
My iPhone sometimes gets considerable warm when connected via EDGE with low reception but this is rare when connected via WiFi or with good reception.

• I just bought my phone few days ago. From the day I bought it I realized the phone heats up after a little use. It gets really hot while using Wifi and downloading. Anyone else having these issues? What's the solution to this?

Your VGA is definitely corrupted and it is irreparable, so just make the HP to change your vga.
Also next time read my post on how to keep your laptop cool to avoid same issues again.
I assume your laptop was pretty hot during some time and that's the result you've got.

• Hi i have the iphone 4s and now for some reason it starts to warm up after using it for more then 5 mins

HI i have the iphone 4s and for some reason it starts to warm up after using it for then 5 mins...what can i do ??

Some heating is normal when in use. It's only abnormal if it gets too hot to hold in your hand. If it's in a case, take it out, and move it to a cooler environment. If it gets to be a big concern, make an appointment at a Genius Bar to have it evaluated.

• My 2011 MacBook Pro 15" is getting really hot!

Hi there,
First time user here. I hope someone can help!
I have recently picked up a brand new MacBook Pro for work and its great, however I am facing some slight overheating issues.
Generally, I'm running MacMail, Chrome, Tweetdeck, Word, Excel and generally some kind of music programme - Spotify or a radio streaming service.
After about 20 minutes the the MacBook starts to get really hot, especially at the top of the keyboard. I've had it for about a week now and I noticed today that the black strip that covers the bar that holds the screen in place is getting hot too - if I push down on this slightly it kind of 'clicks' like the plastic there is coming away from the material - is this normal?
Anything I can be doing to keep the heat down?

Your Mac under OS X is only going to slow down a tiny bit when using Disk Utility or some other actions that the computer needs to take stock of the partitions on the drive. This occurs with any partitions, not just Bootcamp. That's the only real performance your going to lose in OS X.
In Windows, because the second half of a hard drive is slower than the first half, where the Windows BootCamp parition is going to go, while booted into Windows it could boot and perform a bit slower than one expects on a similar PC.
So if you were to time the two, a fresh install of Windows on a PC would likely boot faster than a fresh install of Windows on a Mac.
The smaller the Bootcamp partiition is, the slower Windows will perform as the only way to create another partition is at the very bottom of the drive, where the smallest drive sectors are and takes the drive longer to retrieve and write data.
However this only applies to reads and writes (like booting or opening large files), Windows in Bootcamp has full access to the CPU, memory and video card performance of the machine.
However unless your a performance freak, I doubt you will really even notice.

• My MacBook Pro gets really hot after I install OS X 10.10.3. Can Someone help?

After i install OS X 10.10.3 my macbook pro gets really hot. I don't know why. Someone has a solution?

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

• My iPhone 6 has started getting really hot when I am on the phone. Any thoughts?

My iPhone 6 has started getting hot when I make calls. It does not do this when I am using my apps. Thoughts?

Oh no! I know that the iPhone 6 is one of the hottest smartphones but I didn't mean literally! Let's cool things off with your phone. Have you adjust your setting to extend battery life? If not, here's a link to check out, http://apple.co/1xnEkjF. Also, do you close out the apps that are running in the background to ensure proper resource management? Here's a link on how to do so as well. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5137. Once you have done so, please retest & keep us posted.
Thank you…

• I want to know why my phone gets really hot in use and not in use.

I am using a iPhone 3GS 16GB, been using it for over a year now. Recently, it has been heating up regularly. I understand if it on charge. But everytime I use my phone to play games or reply text messages for no longer then 15mins, it gets heated up so much. Occasioanally, it heats up even when its not in use and when I've forced shut down my apps. Why is that so ?

What iOS version are you running? There have been cases where people have been complaining of their iPhone 3G/3GS overheating. If you have a white version of the 3GS, watch out because this can cause discoloration.

• My MacBook Pro has just started getting really warm for no apparent reason, any ideas why?

Should I use my Apple Care, or is there a quick fix?

you see what is running on your computer (because CPU usage is what makes the procesor(s) get hot) by opening the application "Activity Monitor" in the folder "/Applications/Utilities", then select the "CPU" tab (at the bottom) and sort the information in the top section by "%CPU":
This will show you what application is using the most CPU time and is the most likely candidate for why your machine is warming up. You can also quit all applications, then reboot to see if that resolves the problem.

• My computer case seems like it gets really hot after installing lion

My Macbook Pro is only 5 months old and I don't remember that the case ever got very warm. Now I can't even keep it on my lap because of the hot case. It almost seems worse after installing Lion earlier this week. I'm not positive about that?
What should I do?

The Macbook Pro shell (bottom) will get hot during long periods of use... such as playing games, DVDs, etc. Also depends on the environment you are in... There is nothing wrong with it.

• After using Firefox for quite some time,I am now unable to connect to the internet using Firefox.I get a pop up message stating that Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections. How to fix this?

The message also states that I should check the proxy settings to make sure thaey are correct-I have no idea what this means, and says also to contact the network administer to make sure the proxy server is working. This is my home computer so I guess I am the administer. If it is any help I run system mechanic 10.5,but cannot find anything in system mechanic that I recognize as helpful.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

some 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pros have defects in their NVIDIA GPU. Your GPU panic suggests that your NVIDIA GPU might suffer from this defect. Apple had a gratis servicing program for this defect for three years from the date of purchase. They still service the defect, but it is no longer guaranteed to be gratis.
