My macbook is getting hot and running constantly

My macbook is getting hot and fan running constantly?

Quit all your programs and wait a couple of minutes. It's normal that the fan are running constantly when using games or other high CPU-using programs.

  • Late 2011 macbook pro getting hot and running slow, any ideas?

In the last week my macbook pro has been getting very hot (too hot to rest on knees) and sometimes running slow.  It will often cool down after a while but the fan seems to be running more frequently as well.  Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

      Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
      Choose the appropriate method.

you should avoid keeping it in extreme temperatures, use it as little as possible, and avoid overcharging which means that you should unplug your iphone as soon as it hits 100% battery

  • Equium A100 getting hot and running slow

    Hi
Please excuse me I'm new but i have a Toshiba A100 and lately its been getting really hot and begins to run slow.
I was wondering if anyone could help me fix this?
Also when i look through the bottom i noticed that the small fan is not spinning.
    thanks

    Hi
Usually, if the notebook was registered on the Toshiba website then the warranty should be valid two years long.
You ask if the fan replacement is difficult.
So I have to say; YES.
    Why?
Well, as far as I know you have to disassemble the whole notebook the get the access to the cooling modules
In such case all parts must be removed in the right order and this is not easy and really tricky without any manuals and further notebook experience
I think you should contact the ASP in your country for an notebook check.
This would be the best for your machine

  • Late Macbook Pro getting hot and the fan is getting louder

My Macbook is getting very hot and the fan gets louder the longer I have my Macbook on.
It happens whenever and wherever I use it, I don't play games often as I use my Macbook for my Uni work.
    Does anyone have any advice?

It would help if you indicated the EXACT model MBP that you have.
    Perform a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If no success, open Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and set %CPU to display values from high to low.
Download from the Internet a temperature monitoring app like Bresink:
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
Post images of both for inspection.
Open the MBP and look for dust an debris inside it, especially in the fans.  Clean it out if necessary.
    Ciao.

  • My Macbook was getting hot, and I think I know why.

I have a week 22 build and it usually runs anywhere from 40-53C, but yesterday it was running in the 60-75c. I started to get a little worried that maybe my computer was taking a turn for the worst. I noticed that even when I was running just a few programs it was still using 35-50% cpu usage. I closed everything up except for large a download I had going, but I still had a lot of background apps still running in the activity monitor. (oh I close applications usually by having the program active and using "apple + q".) I figured maybe I should just restart my computer when it rebooted I open safari and continued my download and my cpu% dropped where it should have been 5%-10% and thus the temp dropped.
The only thing I did different with my macbook yesterday was mutli-task a plethora of different applications to really put it to the test, but that had been hours before I rebooted. The computer cpu usage would not correct itself until rebooted.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

You can edit your post for a while immediately after creating it. But don’t wait too long.
If you look at the Activity Monitor shortly after you restart but before you’ve launched any of your programs, you’ll find that there are lots of processes running. This is normal.
When you are running lots of applications at once it may or may not cause the processor to work harder. If the programs are running but not doing anything then the CPU won’t have to work any harder than if you had only one running. OTOH, lets say you start Photoshop running a filter on a batch of files, then run a search/replace on a huge Word file, then start a download in Fetch, and then begin browsing the internet - yep, the computer is going to be quite busy. As the jobs finish, or as you quit the programs, CPU usage will drop.
Your computer was getting warm, but that’s what a computer does when it is being used. I’ve had CPU usage top 90% for quite a long time and the temperature topped 85c. The fans came on and once the CPU usage dropped the temperature also slowly dropped. That’s normal.
Why didn’t the CPU usage drop when you quit everything but Safari? Perhaps Safari was the program hogging the CPU. It does sometimes. Did you look at the Activity Monitor and identify which processes were using lots of cycles? When you are looking at the process list you can click at the top to change how they are sorted. Sort by CPU usage.

  • Why does my macbook pro get hot

Why does my Macbook pro get hot while I am only on my email account?  This is a recent change.  It gets too hot too put in my lap.  Is it a battery issue.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

  • MacBook is getting slower and slower

My 2008 2.4ghz Intel MacBook is getting slower and slower at running basic operations. I have tried to free up my harddrive as it was VERY full. I free up 40 GB+ of space, but something is still filling it back up?
Here is what my profile looks like
How do I figure out what all this "other" material is?
I thought it was due to a lack of memory after upgrading to Lion, but it has been getting dramatically worse, which doesn't seem like a memory issue to me.
    Any thoughts?

    You're welcome.
The other section represents files that are uncategorized  by your OS.  That could be part of your OS, application fonts and so on.
2GB is enough to run lion but might be painfully slow.  Try to bump it up to 4GB if your supports it.
If your MB is an early 08, you can go as high as 6GB.  If you have a late 08, you can go as high as 8GB.
Only upgrade if you plan on keeping your MB longer.

  • The iPod touch 5 battery won't charge, the iPod battery gets hot and doesn't turn on...  What is wrong?  Can photos and data be retrieved?

The iPod touch 5 battery won't charge, the iPod battery gets hot and doesn't turn on...  What is wrong?  Can photos and data be retrieved?

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. I suspect a hardware problem  due to the hotness. If iTunes can't see the iPod then uor only hope if to contact a data recovery company for getting data off the iPod. If you have an iPod backup you can restore another iPod, iPhone or iPad from the backup to get the data that was in the backup

  • Is Adobe Photoshop cs3/10 still being supported?  Mac crashed and need to get up and running again.

Is Adobe Photoshop cs3/10 still being supported?  Mac crashed and need to get up and running again.  Thank you for any info on cs3. mayord

I believe if you were to ask Adobe Support they would tell you that CS3 is no longer supported by their services, if that is what you are refering to when you say "being supported".  That means they are not likely to offer assistance with you re-establishing it.
But you can probably re-establish it yourself.  If you need to download it there is a place for that available:
You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Given that it's only 3 months old and was brand new, you are covered by warranty. You need to take it to whoever you bought it from as they are the servicer of your warranty.
    Good luck!
