My MacBook is hanging up with a multicolor wheel as the mouse sign . Only way to get out is to power off/on but this is not working every time .
Any permanent solution to get out of this recurring and abnormal situation .

Which MacBook? Which version of OS X? How much ram? How much total and free disk space?

My second thought is that you're experiencing hard drive problems and need to run Disk Utility to check the HD and possible repair. You need to start from your original OS X install disc by inserting it and restarting while holding
the C key. Once it has started up choose your language and at the next screen go to the menu bar on top and click the Utilities menu. Select Disk Utility. Choose your hard drive and look to the bottom part of the DU window and note the SMART status, anything other than Verified indicates a problem. Next select the First Aid tab and click Repair. If DU reports that it repaired anything do it again until it reports that the drive is ok.

i run osX 10.6.8 on a 2007 macbook pro that has had 2 motherboards replaced autumn 2010.
my troubleshooting has been: restart, pRam and safe boot, also checking a 'test' account to find the same issues extant.
pRam restart caused airport to quit and say there is no airport card, and wouldn't respond untill another reboot.
macbook pro 15" 2.4 GHz intel core duo.2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
i have treated this book with care, yet run logic pro studio to the limit of this book's abilities.

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).

My late 2008 MBP 5,1 is hanging up with no response to the keyboard/mouse/trackpad & hence no diagnostics that I know of. I did see my wife's userid running Safari have the screen go berserk with random moving black & white "snow" before the whole display became unreadable. Reboot & everything appears normal at this time but the hang-ups are constant. I am running OS X 10.10.
Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Brand new Macbook Pro (early 2015) with upgraded ram lagging in the simplest tasks

I received a brand new 13 inch macbook pro (early 2015) with upgraded ram (16 gb) about two weeks ago. I was expecting it to do tasks faster than its predecessors (the macbook pro which came directly before it, which my father owns, and the early 2009 which is now a family computer), but became dissapointed when it began crashing basically as soon as i started using final cut pro, and ever since it has been lagging everywhere else! I have check my activity monitor regulary due to this issue and have noticed "kernel_task" taking a large percentage of CPU (when im not using the computer all that much around 10%) and it uses 1.5gb of ram upwards constantly without fail! I am aware that this is the operating system so i dont really want to fiddle around with it but it does sound a little bit high to me. Originally it was slightly tougher work on final cut that would crash it, hence why i haven't seriously questioned it until now, but currently i cannot even move my curser around without getting the spinning beach ball of death! Please help me!

HELP!!! Macbook screen is white with a little folder in the middle

i have a late model black macbook purchased in dec 2006 ive never had a problem with it but for some reason i was using the internet on it and it froze so i closed all the programs and closed the screen then the screen just went black and nothing happened ...i turned it off with the power button and then i turned it back on i loged in and when i loged it the screen whent white and it just has a folder icon in the middle with a question mark on it what does this mean ... and what can i do to fix it ? do i have to rebot the system? or take it to the store? someone please help me thank you =}

Do you have your install discs handy? If so, insert Install Disc 1 and hold down the C key. From the "File" Menu choose *Disk Utility* (Not 100% certain on the menu name, but if you don't see it under "File" check the other menus--it's there). Highlight your hard drive's icon (xx.x Fujitsu, for example) and click the "repair disk" button.
Also check the drive's S.M.A.R.T. status; this info is in the lower-right corner of the Disk Utility window.

Have you tried to recover your Mac?
Boot and hold Cmd-R until the recovery screen appears. Follow the prompts. This will reinstall everything over the internet - you do not need any installation media.

I purchased a per device CAL and was wondering about this because we have more than 5 devices. If one device is signed on and is using a licence then signs off does that licence become available for a new device then? Or am I stuck with the same 5 devices

When an RDS device CAL is issued it remains assigned to the device it was issues to until it expires. It cannot be used by another device until it expires.
An RDS per device cal is set to expire in a random inteval between 52 and 89 days. Once this interval expires, the device Cal is returned to the pool. You can revoke RDS CALs manually (up to 20% of your total) with Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.

1. Install the Menu Editor add-on from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/menu-editor/ .
2. After the installation, go to Firefox> add-ons (or simply use Ctrl+Shift+A)
3. Go to the Menu Editor "Options"
4. In the "Main context menu," simply grab the "Open link in New Tab" and place it below the "Open Link in New Window"
5. and Voila! You may also change other menu options if you want to!
I tried jay_ff method first and found that indeed changing the Main Context Menu did cause the hotlink context menu to change as well.

I'm currently in mac recovery. I have a 21.5'' iMac (I think late 2011). I'm running OSX mountain lion and I think its kept up to date. Every time I boot, nether in OSX or windows I get a screen the same as the boot screen just with a buffering wheel (not the beachball one). This seems to go on for ever (at least 3 hours) ant will not boot. Booting in safe mode does not work and results in the same problem. As I said earlier I can get tom recovery mode. Thanks Oliver.

Hello, disconnect any external drives for now.
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

The wheel of my mouses (i tried with two) doesn't work on Firefox versions after 3.6

It started when i installed Firefox 4. The center wheel of the mouse doesn't work (can click but not shift the webpages). Now i have the 6th version of Firefox and the problem continues. I tried with another mouse (one that i tested with another computer and i know that works) but nothing.
I unninstalled Firefox, restarted the pc, clean the registry with ccleaner and installed it again (a clean installation, not an update like the other times), but nothing again.
Today my brother show me that login in windows with his account (instead of using mine) this problem that not happen, is only in mine (we have both admin accounts).
My OS is Windows 7 64 bits.
