My MacBook is having problems with one CD (driver is okay?)

The CD doesn't start playing for about 15 seconds after inserting. It sounds like my computer is having a hard time reading it. What can be the problem???
ALL other CD's are running perfectly.

Check if the disc is a CD+R/RW not a CD-R/RW. The + CD's tend to be a little slower on the Matshita drives. I guess that's just how they're made.

  • Having problems with External Hard Drives on my Laptop

Ever since using linux i've always had the same problem. Whenever i connect a hard-drive, it keeps disconnecting/ spitting input-ouptut errors.
I thought it was because of the hard-drive failing, which turned out to be the problem with my last two, but i'm using another one (Seagate MomentusXT 500GB) and i'm getting the same problem.
I had just reformatted this hard drive from NTFS to Ext4 using Gparted, so maybe that's the problem? I'm really kind of lost.
I mount my HDD like this:
    sudo mount /dev/sdd1 /mnt/usb
    and unmount like this:
    sudo umount /mnt/usb
It connects initially, and i'm able to put stuff onto it. I was able to put a whole TV series on it successfully, but when i tried copying my music onto it it failed and alot of the music didn't copy, giving me these errors:
    ile system

Anyone know how to fix this?

There is a whole lot of bad going on there.
There are problems both drive errors and USB errors.  I don't believe it.
I have a hunch the drive is starving for power.
USB devices are supposed to function all the way down to 4.25V.  Not all do.
USB ports are supposed to be able to deliver 4.25V at the end of the cable at 500mA.  Not all do.
USB 2.0 devices are not supposed to draw more than 100mA unless they negotiate for more.  Some violate that.
USB 2.0 devices are never supposed to draw more than 500mA. Some violate that.  Especially disk drives.
My guess is that your drive is drawing excess current and the voltage drop through the port and cable are dropping you below 4.25; or at least below the voltage that your drive goes "Tango Uniform"[1].   Does your drive have the option for external power?  If so try it.  Following up on wtx's comment;  USB 3.0 is capable of delivering more power.   Also, some drives have used a cable that violates just about every aspect of the USB specification:  A "Y" cable that plugs into two host ports to provide more power to the guest.  I despise this solution with every fiber of my electrical engineering existence; never-the-less, you might try one.

  • MBP having problems with one particular wireless network

My MBP keeps dropping the wireless connection (or failing to find it in the first place) at one particular house. Unfortunately it's a house where I stay a lot. It tells me I'm not connected to the internet and times out any attempted connections. Sometimes it will connect for between 5 minutes and an hour, but then it loses connection again.
When it loses connection the other devices in the house (a Blackberry, iphone and someone elses Mac) all stay connected with no problem. I have never had problems in any other house or with any other connection.
The wireless has a WAP (or WAP 2) password. I have tried resetting and rebooting the modem, the router and the access point, getting Airport to learn or not learn the network, turning airport off and on and all the other usual options (for a clueless muppet like me) and sometimes I can connect again, sometimes not, but the connection is never permanent.
Any ideas please? Thanks very much
I'm on Mac OSX 10.6.7 if that is relevant

Sorry for being so clueless but I'm not sure of the answer to the first two questions. How do I find out?
There is nothing in my network preferences about protocol, but under "About this Mac" I found the following:
    Supported PHY Modes:          802.11 a/b/g/n
There is nothing else nearby competing for radio frequencies - just the other devices mentioned all using the smae wireless signal.
Thanks so much for your help, and sorry that all the technical terms are so lost on me!

  • Having problems with one computer not "seeing" the Airport base station.

    Aloha:
I have an Airport router hooked up to the internet via Cable. I have a laptop and G4 desktop talking to the the Airport Base Station via their respective Airport cards. This allows me to get to the internet with both of my computers. This system has worked just fine for several years, but recently my desktop computer has started to be unable to connect to my Airport Base Station. At first it was intermittent, but now it has stopped completely. The laptop continues to be able to get to the internet via my Airport base station.
The desktop is running OS 10.3.9 and the airport card in the desktop passes the hardware test that came with the laptop. But it can no longer see the signal from the ABS.
    What might my problem be?
    Dan

    Hi Clinton:
I have tried that to no avail. I don't see any
signal, so I see no networks "in the box below" to
choose. My airport card does not see a signal, but
the airport card checks out ok in the hardware test.
Thanks for replying, Clinton, much appreciated.
    Dan
Have you tried choosing "other..." and then entering the name of your network?

  • I installed Windows 8.1 bootcamp but I'm having problems with the nvidia driver

Windows 8.1 is boot camped and it works perfectly, Almost. Ill find myself scrolling, usually with the trackpad, sometimes with a mouse, and the screen will go black, flicker, and resume. It will also stop the driver in games when i press keys too quickly. It seems to be an input problem but i don't see how the keyboard and trackpad affect the video driver. I get an error message that says "NVIDIA driver has temporarily stopped but has recovered." I have installed the latest drivers from the NVIDIA Website as well as all windows 8.1 updates. Sometimes its bad enough that the computer reboots completely. Its getting frustrating as i can't complete tasks or enjoy recreational time. Has anyone had this issue and been able to fix it?

I see the Line in/ mic in from the audio card, but I don't see Line in 2/ mic in 2 from the dri've. I can hear the sound from the inputs on the dri've but becasue those inputs of the dri've does not show on control panal, I cannot select them as a default for recording.
is my dri've not installed correctely? or is there other options?
please help.... I've been struggling with this for two whole days.Message Edited by iccc00 on 0-4-200806:30 PM

First install the Audiodriver from the CD. Then update your drivers. I could not install the updated drivers directly without having the same problems.

  • Having problems with the Hard drive in my zen x

    Hi,
I have a Zen xtra mp3 player and love it, b;ut currently took it to a marching band competition and well, it got dropped by one of the pit crew and you can guess the rest. i tried to boot it up and it goes into "rescue Mode" First I tried to reinstall the OS, then i tried reformating it. All it said was "Harddisk Problem" so im pretty sure the hard dri've is dead. but my question is, does this take just a regular laptop hard dri've or do you need a special one? and also, How do you go about getting the old hard dri've out, I know it can't be to hard but not sure. Any help is appreciated.
    Kevin

You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK. If you don't want to try this or are under warranty then contact Creative Support.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. If you want to try repairing it yourself, taking the risk the hard disk is at fault, then you can follow Rudi Cheow's excellent guide. There's also a thread here at the Zen Nomadness.net forum on compatible dri'ves, and the last page of Rudi's guide also has information on this.

  • Having problems with front row (and the opticle drive)

I bought my macbook three days ago, and I'm already having problems. First off, I transfered music from my user profile on my old iMac G5 to the macbook via data DVD. My music collection had some purchaces from the itunes store, so I had to go through the authorization thing, and I can now play them just fine in the iTunes library, but the problem is, if I try to use the front row program to play my purchaced music, I get the message saying that I have to authorize it first. What the ****? Does anybody else have this problem? Also, like many other macbook users, I'm having problems with the opticle drive, such as getting cds to be recognized and other things of that nature.

I noticed that this problem started after I tried to use a software to unlock my drive's region...
I believe this is the problem. The VLC Media Player will usually play DVDs from other regions without changing the settings on your optical drive. You may need to reset your optical drive's firmware back to the original setting, make sure you have the region set for the one you'd prefer to use the most and then use VLC to play the other DVDs.
    -Doug
P.S. After two years in the Front Row forum, I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone playing HDDVD_TS folders with Front Row. I'm not saying it won't work, but I'm not sure it's really supported either. I do have DVD Studio Pro myself, but I'll have friends or family staying with me for nearly the next month, so my evenings and weekends will be a bit full to try making one up for testing...

    7. when I run the Java program (java Test), I got
    the message:
could not load JDBC driver: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver
    What am I missing?

    Hi,
I missed to specify test in my last post.
Try running your program by explicitly setting the classspath when
running your program . java -classpath c:\mysql-connector-java-3.1.0-alpha-bin.jar test
Make sure your jar file contains org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver class

  • I am having problem with me Iphone4, looks like the mic of my phone is not working. no one can hear me if I make a call to them

Can any one please help me I am having problem with me Iphone4, looks like the mic of my phone is not working. no one can hear me if I make a call to them. I have tried all restoring options but no use. please help me

The mic on my iPhone4 has just quit also. Similar symptoms to yours in that people I'm talking to hear only static or my voice very faintly. The voice/memo recorder also only really records static.
It happened suddenly and seemed to get better after a day or two but then went completely after another day.
I'm returning it to Vodafone New Zealand shortly but will have to wait 5-10 days for a replacement. There are NO Apple accredited means to speed this procedure up in NZ.
We don't even have a single physical Apple Store where you could walk in and talk to a Genius.

I'm having problems with 8.1 and Continuity / Handoff. It will work fine for web pages, etc. but in email when I try to do it between by iPhone 5s running 8.1 and my Macbook Pro running Yosemite I consistently get an error. "Failed to Continue Activity" Cocoa Error 4609.  Handoff is working for phone calls and text messages. By email just crashes each time. It was also doing it under 8.0.2.  My iPhone and iPad handle this fine. It's only the MacBook to the iPhone that fails, and only on email.
