My Macbook is melting!!!!

My Macbook is melting!!!!
This is a shame… I really like this Macbook and it was my first one since I’ve always owned Pcs; but it seems that I was not lucky with my Macbook.
It gets so hot that the AC connector and the place where you connect it its melting.
I will post pics soon.
Please let me know is this is happening to you?

Oh, it seems that you should be able to. Do you have the camera set in macro mode? Usually the symbol is a little flower. Anyway, you should definitely get that checked out by Apple. If you can go to an Apple store, that would be best. If not, call Apple and describe the problem to them.

  • My macbook has melted

Part of my macbook has melted due to exposure to heat. It has left an ugly smudge and scratches where i initially attempted to fix it, not knowing it was part of my actual macbook. This is very unattractive and I'd like to get it fixed asap. As there is nothing wrong with the actual computer just its outer appearance, is this possible to have it re-covered?

  • Macbook Pro Melted Its Own Casing - Expert eyes needed on this photo please of my macbook pro

    This is a 2008 15" Macbook Pro.
At the genius bar I pointed out that the computer was so hot I could barely hold it, so hot the computer had warped it's own plastic casing where it connects to the power source.
So the genius guy took it in the back, opened it up, diagnosed a fried logic board and said "For $310 we'll fix up anything in the computer, you'll get it back good as new."  In 2010 the logic board also fried and was replaced, and the heat cooling system was then replaced - looks like the same issue all over again.
So I took it home to get the data off the hard drive, but when I brought it back a few days ago, the new 'genius' made a different diagnosis.
Without barely looking at it, without taking it in the back, and without listening to or believing anything I told him, the Genius Bar are calling this impact damage - overriding the previous genius's assessment.
How can the perfectly symmetrical ripple wave in the plastic which goes top to bottom through a half inch of plastic be created by impact damage? And that the plastic piece below is not warped would mean I would have had to have removed the bottom piece of the computer, dropped it, then put it back on, in order for it to not be warped like its top half.
Are there any expert eyes out there who have an opinion on this keeping in mind the symptoms?
Additionally when the computer was its hottest, the trackpad would not click. The plastic must have expanded from the heat. So it would click, but only if I pressed really really hard. Doing this one day the plastic on the trackpad actually shattered from clicking it. But the shattering must have removed the surface pressure from the expanded plastic and therefore the trackpad became fully functional again in its shattered state and that's how I've been using it for quite some time.
I really appreciate any expert support from the community here if you disagree with the 2nd geniuses because I am complaining through official channels. I do not want to pay extra for damage the computer did to itself. Especially when this is the 2nd time the logic board fried on this computer.
I am someone who has owned apple's first everything since the 80's, and have worked on two Apple commercials myself. I'm currently typing this post from a PC... Does Apple want to satisfy its customers anymore or what?
I never did get a feeback solicitation emailed about this appointment either, I wonder why.

Each time I look at this post - the moderator has edited it again into something different than I said. Moderator, I'd prefer to remove this entirely if you are going to change the meaning of it. How do we do this? The above posts at 9:25a and 9:57a are not my language at all. And the moderator looks to have removed my ability to edit my post.
An update to the discussion (which I will repost separately when the moderator removes these ones which s/he's altered) - apparently this happened to other people as well - enough to bring a class action suit on apple forcing them to repair the issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2536493
    http://gigaom.com/apple/is-apple-blind-to-nvidia-related-macbook-pro-failures/
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2675881?start=60&tstart=0
The Beverly Center apple store handled this 1000% better than the 3rd Street Promenade Store did - just got back the Macbook Pro, entirely repaired for $310, just like the 1st genius as 3rd Street Promenade told me would/should happen, overruling the 2nd set of geniuses Adrian, Phillipe and Matt.
I tried the 866 customer support # at apple to tell them about my unpleasant experience with 3rd Street Apple, and was routed around in circles being on hold for 12 minutes at a time - got nowhere. They told me I could give feedback at apple.com/feeback - but this site offers nowhere to plug in unpleasant experiences with the genius bar - only allow one to complain about equipment. So despite all the phone calls I've made, my experience has gone unheard by apple.
Though I've twice paid $300 to have the fried logic board replaced on this computer, I am asking apple to reverse the charges due to the class action and known issue with the NVIDIA graphics card on these models.
Not only did they replace the casing (which was melted), they replaced the battery which was leaking and had expanded, replaced the fried logic board, and the fried CD player. Additonally, when using this computer before, I periodically felt little shocks to my wrists where my skin contacted the edge of the casing. And the computer was so hot I couldn't hold it. If these aren't heat/power issues, I don't know what are.

  • MacBook Outside Melting due to heat?

    Hello there,
My MacBook was doing just fine, until this morning when I noticed somthing unusual. The side (if the screen was down, and you looked at it leveled) left to the touch pad had begun to deform and have two "curves." I have only had my MacBook for 9 days, and becuase this is on the side of the battery, I am considering that this is the problem: the battery heat. I don't think this is a cosmetic issue, is it? Will Apple replace my MacBook? I bought the AppleCare for it, but by the time I called them, it was past their working hours. I thought I would get some help here.
Thanks in advance to all the help.
    Krovek647

    krovek647,
Call Apple again or take your machine in. It should not become hot enough to melt. There could be other reasons for the slight deformation on the palm-rests. They may have been there before, there may be some perceptual issue where it looks dented, but is just covered in oil, or the plastic itself may just have a mild warp to it. If you press lightly on the area to the left and right of the trackpad does it squeak?
To be honest, if it suddenly curved inward and was extremely hot to the touch I would recommend against using the product until it had been evaluated for safety by the manufacturer.
It could just be a one off issue with the keyboard deck which is easily resolved through a repair.
    Good Luck,
    -j

  • Has my MacBook Pro melted due to heat?

I have a Unibody MacBook Pro, and near the hinge on one corner of the lid it has this weird bend?
I've never dropped it, so the only way I can imagine that this has happened is through heat - it does get hot there, but I didn't think it could get that hot.
    Here's a pic: http://yfrog.com/jmrvfsj
What do you think? Will Apple repair it?

I recently went on a trip and took my MacBook Pro with me. While in the airport waiting to board a plane I decided to play a movie while I waited and to my surprise when I tried to plug in my earbuds from my iPhone into the jack on the left side.. my case was so melted that the plug would no longer fit inside the jack. I began to inspect the case and it was very noticeable that the case has melted due to heat. I have a difficult time believing that this case is made of aluminum. I am also a welder and work with aluminum... the case is warped and curled under, not typical of melting aluminum. I looked further and the left front corner (if closed) of my display is also melted with a divit in the lid and the corner is turning/bending up. My MBP is out of warrantee as I have owned it for almost 2 years now. I called the local Apple store in Huntsville AL and made and appointment to go have it looked at. I have never once dropped or misused this computer or left in in the sun. It has always sat on a marble table top or on my lap. I have noticed in the past that sometimes it gets so hot in my lap that I have to put it back on the table for a while and let the cool marble top heat sink some of the pain away. The gentleman that I spoke with, Vance Hughes... with the supposed title of Genius told me in not so many words to go pound sand. He told me that he has worked in the Apple store for years and has never seen a case melt like that, in that spot. He accused me of setting it on a hot surface because there was nothing in the computer that could produce enough heat to do this type of damage. I assured him that I am an honest guy and I never misused it or set it on anything hot.. He said that the parts could be replaced but it would cost me over $1000.00 and I should take it to an aftermarket computer store to have it worked on. What really ticks me off is 1, he in not so many words called me a liar and 2, would not even consider standing behind the Apple product. I understand when a warrantee is up, normal wear and tear is expected.. but this has got to be a design flaw and it is just a matter of time before the computers that were purchased around the same time as mine (December of 2008) will start showing the same problems. This computer has been plugged in almost since the day it was purchased. Is there any relief to this issue? I would think that Apple would be very interested in why my computer is melting. What if it caught on fire and burned down my house..? Then what? I am going on record here that this is a problem and I hope that no one else experiences the same issue but on the other hand I hope that everyone does so this problem in some sense gets validation.
    Respectfully,
    MR.

  • The bottom part of my Macbook is melting.

I know Apple has a Macbook Bottom Case Replacement Program, But I live in the Philippines and I saw they only ship the case to a few countries...
    Can sombody help me???
And one more thing. My macbook is on ver. 10.6.8, It won't update properly.
1st you're gonna think it's all good, then once it's half way to finishing the update it's gonna stop saying it has an error. This happened multiple times already

    Hello, A.j. De Castro.
Apple has determined that under certain circumstances the rubber surface on some MacBooks may separate from the bottom case of the system. MacBooks shipped between October 2009 and April 2011 may experience this issue.
Apple will replace the bottom case of any affected MacBook, free of charge, that exhibits the issue.  As you mentioned that you are in the Philippines, the best avenue for service would be to visit one of our Apple Retail Stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers.  You will be able to locate a provider in the link below.

  • MacBook Charger Melted Cable

I've just seen my MackBook Black (2007/8) charger melt through its own cable. The cable has melted where the magsafe cable meets the adapter.
It hasn't been against anything hot, it has definitely melted through itself, for whatever reason.
What recourse do I have? Am I just left in a position where I'll have to fork out for a new charger?

Short circuit. Some component failing. Charger getting hot normally and being held against wire?
What recourse do I have? Am I just left in a position where I'll have to fork out for a new charger?
Probably, unless you have some sort of warranty or this is a subject to a recall. I checked online and didn't see anything about a recall.

  • Macbook Pro screen damage - dust melted in

    Hi
I used my Macbook Pro retina intensively and it gets hot. I also use it on location all the time so it's subject to dust. I have a brush and I always make sure thats it's dusted down.
Today I cleaned my screen and noticed that there is what looks like dust particles actually melted into the screen on the area surrounding the trackpad. The par that goes over the trackpad is perfect and it's shap outline can clearly be seen on the screen and the damage outlines it.
When I run my nail over it it feel rough while the area that covers the trackpad is smooth, so too is the area that covers the keyboard. Adding to that I dots from the edges of some of the keys that have done the same thing.
I'm pretty sure this is not normal and this is already my second screen because my first was replaced less that a year ago because of ghosting.
What should I do? Do you think Apple will replace it?

I also use it on location all the time so it's subject to dust.
    What should I do?
For your needs I would think you need to consider switching to getting a Sager 17" 1080 HD anti-glare with Windows 7 instead.
Not only are 3D gamers computers more graphics and CPU powerful, up to 32GB of RAM as well, but they can be opened by the user to clean the dust out of the cooling fins.
They also allow for multiple internal drives etc. for more of a portable workstation purposes.
Apple has been steadily decreasing hardware performance in their portable line, only provides one top end 15" model with more powerful dedicated graphics when last models all 15" had that option.
Also Apple has sealed the newer machines up, so one can't open them and remove the fans to clean the cooling fins.
If the cooling fins are not cleaned often in dusty environments, it greatly shortens the working life of the machine.
Severe dusty environments can be considered a "user inflicted damage" by Apple which isn't covered by AppleCare or warranty, much like liquid spills are also not covered.
My previous 15" was used on many locations in the field, after only a year, when I started experiencing problems and Apple couldn't fix, I took upon myself to open the machine and see the cause of the problem myself.
The coolin fins were half choked up with debris, hindering the exhaust and slowly cooking the video graphics as it's the hottest part of the machine.
Clearing the debris didn't work, the heat damage already occured.
Mac's are designed for lite clean office like uses only, nearly all, except the MacPro, are not designed for heavy duty use and adequate heat removal.

  • Macbook Pro...Where's MY recall???? my melting mac

i'm sick and tired of this...i've been a devout mac follower for years and always support and switch people to their products..now why am i getting screwed for being a supporter? my piece of ** macbook pro is: literally disintegrating, my backlight is uneven, my fan has burnt out and some surface parts reach 56.4 degrees celsius (tested with an infrared thermometer). i've already had the fan replaced and now i have to wait for the backordered lcd and bezel...the deduction is this...since the case is not painted, the heat from this thing has actually melted off the coating on that little strip beneath the bottom row of keys. if you move the tip of your nail across it (or a finger at that) it reveals a shiny finish with a thermal-paste like residue being wiped off. how long am i going to have to play this ******** back-and-forth warranty business. this is a week 8 computer and unlike a lot of these laptops, it doesn't get used occasionally on a tv or movie set or in an advertisement. i literally cannot afford to send it in and wait for them to swap a part and send it back. i know that all the heat has screwed up stuff inside. my performance is laggard at best and i've juiced it up with as much optimization and cache-cleaning etc..as possible! where's the quality control? where's the effort to satisfy your customer and deliver what you promised: a high quality, high performance computer?? i'll be putting some pictures up as soon as i get a chance to find them so everyone can see what i'm talking about..i'm just totally ****** so sorry for the rant

i will be calling apple canada executive offices and
see where that road takes me...again, i'll post as it
    continues
Definitely speak to Executive relations. Do not settle for a repair. This computer qualifies for a replacement. I have had two friends get a call from Executive relations and they had replacement units VERY quickly. i.e. overnight express.
You have to be persistent - document the history and settle for nothing less than a replacement unit.
Good luck with it - please let us know how things go.

  • Melted macbook pro charger

I've had my macbook charger for less than two years the cord right by the adapter melted through and it doesn't charge anymore, along with the burning smell.
I really don't think this should've happened... Is there a way for Apple to give me another charger because this was obviously a defect?

chargers are covered under warranty for 1 year unless you have applecare.  You can always bring it to an Apple store and see what they say.

  • Macbook Powercord Overheated and Melted

I got my Macbook in August of 06. Two days ago I came to it after leaving it plugged in and found the box part of the powercord that plugs in to the computer was frayed/melted. I can see the wires and it only works temporarily. I can see marks where it plugs into the computer that look sort of charred, as though it overheated. If I did not purchase the apple care package, can this still be replaced? Has this happened to anyone else?
Macbook Core Duo White Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Not too surprised unfortunately. I have two MacBooks in the home and have gone through 8 cords since May. None have melted, but have came apart where the connector head meets. As mentioned, Apple should replace it without issue as long as you're under warranty.

  • Macbook melted my tray table

I was flying about a month ago and I borrowed a Macbook to use see if I liked it (I'm used to a Powerbook). I was watching a movie from the HD. After I was done watching I picked up the Macbook to put it away, but as soon as I did that I noticed that something smelled like burning plastic. I ran my hand over the tray table and realized the heat from the Macbook had actually started melting the table.
I have read that Macbooks run hot, but that is ridiculous. Was this just a bad Macbook, or are they all that hot?

"Do you know if the MBPs have a tendancy to get hot? Or is it just MBs that run a bit warmer than usual?
Well I guess if you read much of what goes on here you'd have to say that indeed the MacBooks run a bit warmer. People have said they've burnt their legs, hands, etc. People have said the cases have melted. Now you say you've melted a tray table. So I guess you could assume they run hot.
As I said previously I had a PowerBook G3 Pismo that would get warm when I used it on my lap. My MacBook seems like it's about the same. Certainly not what I'd call benignly warm but not hot enough to burn human flesh either. Of course I'm kind of poo pooing it and that's probably not right because I'm sure there are people that are having real trouble but I think that a lot of these people here are sort of exaggerating the situation too.
Are they warm or hot even? Yes. Are they too hot? In my situation they're not.

  • Macbook pro magsafe power adapter - cord melted

Has anyone had the cord on their power adapter burn or melt through? I've had my Macbook Pro for 3+ years and taken great care of it. I experienced the battery bulge issues and has two batteries replaced under AppleCare. I came home yesterday to find this:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/jdgrif/MacbookProPowerAdapter?feat=directlink
    Any ideas?
I realize I'm outside of my AppleCare now but I still find this alarming.
    Thanks.

  • Macbook pro 13" (60w) charger melted

I've had a 13" macbook pro for a couple of years and today the 60w charger melted.  Will Apple replace it or do I have spend $80 for a new one?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your Mac is in warranty, take the Mac and the charger to an Apple Store or reseller and you will get a new charger for free.
If your Mac isn't in warranty, you will have to buy another charger > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC461LL/A/apple-60w-magsafe-power-adapter-for- macbook-and-13-inch-macbook-pro?fnode=5a

  • Macbook pro charger melted!!??? the pin and the contact are bust

my sister has a macbook and the plastic around the two pins on either side of the (mid 2010 new design) charger, and the plastic around the two outer contacts on the notebook melted and went black, and the pins sunk into the structure of the charger. My sister started to use my charger (which i think is the same charger or similar charger), i dont know what happened to the charger, but when i used it with my Macbook Pro the same thing happened, only this time it was with one of the pins on my charger, and the corresponding contact on my macbook. The Macbook Pro still charges, haven't checked the Macbook, but i dont want to charge anything at the moment - just incase i cause more damage.
Can someone please tell me what's going on and why this is happening, and how i can fix it. Is it a hardware problem with the charger? the notebooks? both? maybe a software problem - a virus causing it to happen? maybe there's a problem with mains? maybe the fan doesn't work properly and the laptop heats up and melts the port? really need to sort this out - before i start university again this september. I want to have an idea of whats happening or to rule out any illegitimate reasons before i decide to go to the apple store. I find it strange that it happened to both our notebooks.

The genius Bar is well-equipped to deal with Physical problems like this. Take all your gear to them and have them diagnose the problem. No charge for the evaluation, in warranty or out-of-warranty. But they are crazy-busy so DO make an appointment.
