My Macbook isn't recognising a CD-r disk that I want to burn to

Hi there,
I have a really frustrating problem with my mac book, it isn't recognising some blank cd-r discs that I want to burn a file to. I have used all sorts of discs in the past that have worked fine and that includes the type of discs I want to currently use. My Mac book is recognising other discs including blank and commercial. The only difference I can find with these particular discs compared to others that have worked is the speed on the front of the disc, these ones are 52x speed, and others I ahve used before have been 12x speed. I have previously burned to other 52x speed discs though. I hope someone can help otherwise this will be a very frustrating, time consuming and expensive game of trial and error to get my work done!

What brand of CD-Rs are you using? Many people here use Maxell for best quality.

Maybe because it's not a 'genuine' retail version? Many OEM versions just don't work - and I've no idea which flavor of Win7 your friend downloaded. Obviously one that Boot Camp doesn't recognize. Best to just pony up the cash for a full retail version, of some flavor - and use it. You COULD, of course, download the 14-day trial version of Parallels Desktop and see if you can install Win7 as a virtual machine... it might or might not work. Boot Camp just isn't finding the resources it needs on the copy you have - try Parallels and if that doesn't work just purchase a retail (or student discounted) version.

  • MacBook Pro not recognising printer and printer list empty

my MacBook Pro isn't recognising my printer. This happened before Yosemite update. I looked in the printer list and my printer was the only one there. On advice I deleted it and tried to re add it. There are no printers in the list to click on. I have a canon MP280. I upgraded to Yosemite and still no luck.
i Also wanted to ask if my printer can be attached to a BT home hub.
    Thanks in advance

  • MacBook battery not recognised!

    Hi all,
I know this is a common issue, but the battery on my MacBook 2,1 is definitely kaput.
It isn't recognised in OS X anymore, and the battery indicator on the bottom of the battery doesn't work either.
I heard that Apple did a replacement program for the batteries.
Is this the case? or am I going to have to shell out £90 for a new battery?
    Thanks

You might try an SMC reset, however, what you've described does sound like a dead battery. SMC reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
There aren't any Apple MacBook battery repair programs listed, however, you could talk to your local dealer to see what they can do for you.
Is it possible that you bought the system with a credit card that extends the Apple warranty coverage?

  • IPod Nano 4th gen - screen flickers, won't turn on, isn't recognised by computer or iTunes.

My 4th gen iPod Nano has been playing up.
When I connect it to my computer or a dock, the screen flickers with the Apple logo. Once unplugged, it won't turn back on and the screen goes completely black. I tried to reset it numerous times (both connected and unplugged) but that didn't help at all.
I tried to see if I could fix it by restoring it and putting it in disk mode, but the iPod isn't recognise by any of the computers in my house and doesn't appear in either iTunes or 'My Computer' so that really doesn't help. I'm positive it's not an issue with my computer or USB cable because the other iPods in my house connect just fine.
Any idea on how to fix this?

If you have synced your iPod touch to a computer, it should be relatively easy to fix.  Plug the iPod into the computer to which it is synced.  Once plugged in, hold the home (square button on front) and the power button on the top for approximately 10-15 seconds.  After the apple disappears from your screen a couple times, a new screen will popup indicating to start iTunes on your computer.  Once you start iTunes, you will be given the option to begin the restore mode and then choose to restore your particular iPod.  Once again, you have to had synced your iPod to a computer to utilize this option.  Not sure how I figured it out, but I finally did!  Good luck and let me know if it does/doesn't work for you.

  • IPad isn't recognised by computer and no longer charges

I can't update to ios5 as my ipad2 isn't recognised by the computer when I plug it in to USB port.  I've tried to charge the iPad but the iPad states "not charging". It only trickle charges now.  Tried re-installing iTunes, using different USB ports and connectors as well as carols different plug sockets.  Very grateful for any suggestions as I'm baffled! Thanks

You could try testing with another program like Image Capture found in the Applications folder.
If that program also does not show the camera then try a different USB port on the computer.
If you have a memory card reader you could try that as well.
If the issue still persists then checking your camera's settings in keeping with TD's advice would be a good idea. It may be in the wrong mode.

  • HELP! MacBook Pro cant recognise or burn DVDs but only CDs, and...

    Hi all
I noticed that there many of you have the same problem, but I really need some advice here, my MacBook Pro cant recognise or burn DVDs but only CDs, well actually occasionally it does recognise the DVDs then it burn but cannot write (on Toast), also in many other apps, like iDVD or DVDSP, it does run well on the first part of the burning but then failed at the end, with all kinda diff error msg. I have tried using many diff brands of disc too, inc verbatim.
So I borrowed my friends external DVD writer (actually a cheapy one with no brand), when I tried to burn using the external then an error msg comes up and says the writer cannot recognise the disc.
I dont wana get the MBP to repair but just wana get a external DVD writer to solve the problem, cos i need to use my computer and dont have a replacement mac, but now I am worry if the problem i now having is a system problem or just hardware, not sure if it is because the DVD writer i borrow is cheapy so it doesnt cope with mac, or just my MBP have system error that cant burn DVDs...
But my MBP can burn CDs so it is not a hardware problem? and if that is a system problem so even I buy a new DVD writer wont solve the problem?
btw, I have tried many solving methods like rewriting permission, reset PVRAM, etc
    PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS HELP

I'm having the same problem you are on my 2.4GHZ Core2Duo MBP running 10.5.2. It will sometimes recognize DVDs, sometimes not... it chuggs and clunks and then spits the disc out. If i re-insert it a view times it will show up on the desktop. I get failures from Toast as well as iDVD. If i keep trying i have been able to burn files onto a disc with the finder, but then the burner fails during the verification. If put the disc back in the contents appear to be correct (after a quick look). Burning CD-Rs seems to be working fine, that with the occasional DVD write seems to point away from the HW. I am trying with both Memorex DVD+RW and Verbatim DVD-Rs...
I have tried the command/option-PR reset combo with no luck.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    -graham

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • My macbook isn't turning on. I have taken the battery out, reconnected it and I still have no response. How do I fix this?

My macbook isn't turning on. I have taken the battery out, reconnected it and I still have no response. How do I fix this?

If you want Apple to help you you'll have to take the Mac to a store.
Your problem is very unusual, the only suggestion I can give is to back up all your personal data and reinstall Mac OS X as it appears to be corrupted somehow. It may also be worth replacing the hard drive at the same time.
The worst case scenario is that your Mac is actually failing, it does happen, your best bet is to get a specialist to look at it.
I'm sorry you haven't been helped here but you must understand that the community can only help with problems they have answers to.

  • Equium L350D - DVD/CD drive isn't recognised

    Hi,
Having a real problem with the internal DVD/CD drive in my Equium.
Whatever DVD software I try to use my DVD drive isn't recognised. I've tried using the following : Toshiba installed, Windows Media Player, iTunes.
This is the error message :
The specific drive cannot be located. Check the setting by going to Settings->Action settings->Source, or otherwise check that the drive has been properly connect to the PC.
    Hope someone can help !!

    Hi mate
First of all you should check the device manager.
The CD/DVD drive should be listed there
If there is yellow exclamation mark near the ODD in device manager, then you should delete it from the device list.
Then you should access registry (type regedit) and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
After that reboot the unit and wait until Windows would recognize the ODD again
If this would not help, then I would recommend removing the tools like itunes and other burning applications from the system
I read in many forums that iTunes etc could affect the CD/DVD drive functionality
