My macbook keeps asking if I want to shut down, restart, etc...

It just started, but my macbook keeps asking if I want to shut down, restart, etc...
I've tried all the resetting advice I see online but nothing works...
I have a macbook 2.1/Intel Core Duo - 4GB - 10.6.8

My MacBook just recently today starts to ask me to shutdown/sleep/restart etc after 1 minute of idling. I've reset the SMC twice to no avail. I checked my power settings and everything else and nothing is out of the ordinary. I've looked online and other people have experienced similar problems. Just wondering if anyone have found a solution to this?

Does it power on if you plug in the charger?
But to be honest I see in your description it says 'Late 2011' so there is a good chance you have warranty right, I would take it to Apple store and let them sort it out

  • My Macbook keeps going black like it has shut down but it is still turned on. What is happening?

I have a Macbook purchased in 2008 and it keeps going black on me as if it has been shut down. When I hold it up to a bright light I can see it is on but  it is so dark I can't see anything. Does anyone have any ideas what is happening?

  • Macbook Pro shuts down - unprompted message asks if I want to shut down

Hoping someone can help me with this recurring problem on my Macbook Pro...
I'll be working on my computer when all of a sudden an option comes on the screen
"Would you like to shutdown computer" options include "sleep, shutdown, cancel"
if I make it to cancel quick enough, I'm okay, but even sometimes after I hit cancel my computer shuts off in a blink of an eye!
This problem will go away for a couple of weeks, and then will come back.
I've updated my software but continue to have the problem. Any suggestions?

It sounds as though your delete key and your power button are somehow getting crossed up. Take the machine in for evaluation by a technician. If it's under warranty, this should be covered.

  • Mac Pro 1.1 Asks if I want to shut down after an hour or so of use.

    Hi,
My Mac Pro will bring up the shut down dialogue after an hour or so of use.  The window won't cancel just reappears.
Previously it was going to sleep until I unchecked 'Allow power button to put Mac to sleep' in preferences.  Power button fault?
I've re-set my PRAM and SMC.  Changed the battery on the PCB too.
I've tried running a hardware test however I'm using a reasonable but old CRT display and the dialogue box doesnt display correctly, looks brown/orange and illegible.  I'm running Lion.
Any thoughts? Power button easy to replace? Can't find much info on doing this.
I wonder if the temperature of the mac is what triggers the fault.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John

Why not run AHT first and see.
I'd say heat and failing RAM would be first.

    Lynne130,
to figure out which users have administrative privileges, open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences; each user other than the Guest User will be shown with a description of either “Admin” or “Standard”. It’s typical for the first user created on a Mac to be an administrative user.

  • Had to replace battery which wiped out everything. restored from the cloud, but when I hook up to computer, won't sync. keeps asking if I want to re-store again. Ideas?

Had to replace battery, which wiped out everything. Backed up from the cloud, but when I hook to computer, won't sync. Keeps asking if I want to re-store the phone.
    Ideas?

no apple store replaced. they said there were 3 apple programs that kept crashing in background, which ran battery down cause they kept trying to re-load.
they backed up phone to cloud, wiped out old software and replaced new software & new battery. since then won't sync with itunes on computer.

  • I am asked repeatedly if I want to shut down my computer when I do not. How can I stop this from happening?

I am asked over and over again if I want to shut down my computer now. No matter how many times I click "cancel" the box returns with the same maddening question. I'm using Lion on a Mac Pro. How can I get this to stop?

Perhaps the problem is that your Security setting is set to log you out immediately that your Sleep mode activates. And maybe your sleep setting is quite frequent.
Otherwise you may have set a shutdown timing in Energy Saver>Schedule that keeps repeating when you cancel the Shut Down window.
I haven't tried these yet and they are rather obscure, but they may be the software problems to check before servicing your hardware (keys and power button).

  • Macbook pro random shutdown "are you sure you want to shut down?"

Firstly, I'm asking this on behalf of my boyfriend who would ask himself if his computer were working!
His MacBook Pro 2.2GHZ new since July07 has just now, when started up, started displaying the shutdown message "are you sure you want to shut down?" and then shutting down anyway. Without being asked or prompted.
This has happened everytime it has been switched on after a couple of minutes it will just do it over again. It is fully charged.
Absolutely no idea what to do other than to take it down to the Mac Store and get it looked at.
If anyone has any help or advice it would be greatly appreciated,
    thanks in advance. Charlie

Ok thought i had this fixed myself, i put it down to over heating as it was just acting normally for the last couple of hours but having just turned it off and started shutting everything down for the night it turned itself on!
I think i solved this by shutting the laptop but this has never happened before. I really hope someone can help, I've googled the problem to no avail and this is pretty much my last hope.
    Thanks again
    Charlie

Look, I understand I still need a card attached to the account. The problem is, it won't accept my card because I only have 87 cents in my bank account right now.
If I had known there would be so much trouble with the iTunes card, I would have just put the cash in my bank account in the morning instead of buying an iTunes card (I didn't expect the banks to be open on Thanksgiving of course).
Apple will only accept cards that have a balance. The balance is so small in my account that it won't accept it as a valid card.
I'm going to have to contact Apple anyway to reset the security questions. That's obvious. Your answers were not exactly helpful. You didn't tell me anything I don't already know, but thanks for trying to be helpful.

  • Message "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now"

I am in OS 10.8.5 on a Mac Pro. I get repeated message  upon start-up "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" Restarting does not stop the message. Nor does canceling it. It keeps occuring, blocking my ability to do applications. Because it comes to the front all the time, and the "shutdown" button is lit, if I inadvertently hit a return key while typing something else, the computer shuts down. I have a western digital backup disk-dismounting that has no effect. I have also run the disk utility permissions repair a few times to no avail.
    Thanks for any advice.

This might happen if your power button is malfunctioning.  Remember a slight tap of the power button will bring up that screen.  Bring it in for service if it is readily reproducible.

Macbook Pro (2011) froze while working, forced shut down, now won't turn on. Grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel for hours. Help?
Unfortunately do not know the operating system since I never updated anything and I can't get in to it.
    Thanks for your assistance.

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, and it's not already backed up, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • Failed installation that just keeps trying to install continually, on shut down.

How do I get this installation to stop trying.  Everytime I shut my computer down, it goes into "downloading 2 of 2 updates ...".  I unplug my computer as the "download" keeps running until the power for my computer is all gone.
Usually have to leave overnight before I can turn computer on again.
Don't want to have to force shutdown everytime I want to shut down my pc.   And I don't think this update/download is important to me.
