My MacBook Keeps repeating setup information

I left my computer on to update last night, and I closed it. When I woke up this morning to logon and get on the internet. All it would do is run through the setup like I had just got it. I have notes from class and other information on there, have I lost it? and what do I need to do to get it back working again?

Hi JONSMO!
Try this... boot your machine into SAFE BOOT by pressing and holding "shift" key, from when you turn on your computer until it reaches the login window. Once at the login window, shut down the computer via the "Shut Down" button. It should finalize the updates and on the next reboot, take care of the issue.
Please report your findings if this does not resolve the issue.

  • My macbook keeps erasing my information

My macbook is less than a week old and it is erasing my settings and documents. I have an exam on Tuesday so if at all possible I would like to recover the lost documents (from omnioutliner) so I can study! I have never had a mac before and am not very good with computers so I have no idea what is going on. It has erased everything that was not backed up (some documents, my general settings, etc.) Please help me!

    Hi.
Did you rename your home folder, perhaps?
If you happened to rename it, you can recover the data just by reverting its name to the original one.
    Good Luck.

The next time the crash happens, note the date and time the problem occurred, then go to Applications/Utilities/Console and copy the log starting at the time of the crash. Paste the log in a reply. Please do not use a screen shot as they can be hard to read. If there are repeated runs of the same messages, please post only one run. Be selective about what you post and don’t  post huge amounts. Make sure there is no personal data visible. Information learned from Linc Davis.

  • My macbook keeps randomly turning off.

My macbook keeps randomly shutting off. It is no longer under warranty. I've read all of these discussions from people with similar issues and I've tried some of the things that seemed logical. it's a late 2007 MacBook. I bought it used from a friend and they never had this issue. It was wiped clean and when I got it, after about 5 LONG uses, it randomly shut down once. I installed Snow Leopard, updated to 10.6.8, then the problem started. The fan seems to be running fine. The problem occurs weather it's plugged in or not, so I'm pretty positive it's not the battery. I've done the PRAM reset and the SMC reset.. I also took the computer apart and cleaned it. Performed the SMC reset again and it seems to be working for right now. Hopefully that's all it needed but if the problem continues does anyone have any suggestions on what it may be? Thanks.

Resetting the SMC of an Intel-based portable Mac with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: This will not delete any data.
The SMC is responsible for controlling various system functions. None of your data will be deleted by resetting the SMC.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.

  • Export from iPhoto while keeping original photo information?? NEED HELP!!!

I'm trying to set up a pc for my grandmother so I can take over her old computer (macbook air). However she has 11000 photos on iPhoto and I need to move then all onto a storage device (about 30GB) but when I export them the computer doesn't copy all the information such as the date the photo was taken etc. Talking to a guy in the apple store he said i couldn't do it, but he was being pretty unhelpful so I was wondering if anyone here could give me an answer. How do you export from iPhoto while keeping all the information?

    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
    As to dates specifically:
There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
When you export from iPhoto to the Finder new file is created containing your Photo (and its Exif). The File date is - quite accurately - reported as the date of Export.
However, the Photo Date doesn't change.
The problem is that the Finder doesn't work with Exif.
So, your photo has the correct date, and so does the file, but they are different things. To sort on the Photo date you'll need to use a photo app.

  • Macbook crashing repeatedly, can't boot

    Greetings fellow apple users!
I have a Macbook (1.83 Core Duo, 2GB ram, 60GB, Combo) that has been crashing intermittently (ie, maybe 2 times a week on and off for the past few weeks) and this morning, crashed for good. I opened it up from sleep, and it had the standard "please restart" box that forces you to restart, and so I did. Upon pressing the power to start, the optical drive kept engaging repeatedly. I got past that after taking out the battery, pressing the power, and putting the battery back in. So, now, half the time it freezes on the tone (and the tone keeps repeating) and the other half it will go through at least part of the boot cycle, but it starts artifacting and the does the force reboot box.
I tried reinstalling OS X (full erase, and complete reinstall), but it will just start, and then force reboot.
Here's the kicker: My warranty expired a month ago. Help, anyone?

Try starting it up in safe mode. Hold down shift when it starts up. If you can get in that way, go into disk utility and verify the disk and permissions. Post back once you've done this and see if it works (or if you can even get into safe mode at all).

  • Script keeps repeating

    Hi All --
I have a script that is supposed to retrieve some information from two tables based upon a select statement. Then write the data to a file. However, the script keeps repeating and does not break out of the loop. It doesn't give me any errors and eventually the server times out. When I run the select statement by itself, it only retrieves about 15 records. Not sure why it doesn't break out of the loop. Any ideas? My code is below:

Well, I changed the code to an explicit cursor and the first part of it works. But my second cursor is not working. It now hangs. Could it be caused by the version of Oracle (Oracle8 Enterprise Edition Release 8.0.6.0.0 ) or by the OS being NT? Here is the modified code:

  • My macbook keeps ejecting iLife 11 family pack

My macbook keeps ejecting iLife 11 family pack  disk?

The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Reset the Power Manager (PMU) or System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. For example a "combo drive" can read a DVD-R and burn a CD-R however it cannot burn a DVD-R. The utility System Profiler may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
If the discs continue to not be recognized, please contact Apple, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.

MacBook Pros don't run iOS.  13B42 says you are running Mac OS X 10.9.1.  But yes, the graphics chip is a likely culprit.  You may be able to clearly identify it with the hardware test for Intel Macs.
This hardware test is built-in if your Mac is newer than July 20, 2011.  Otherwise you may need to call AppleCare for the original discs if they are missing.
The other thing that looks odd is the repeated instances of the USB 2.0 hub and the Logitech mini-receiver.  Do you actually have multiple of each, or is that just a glitch of the report?
And you actually have 23 Bluetooth devices?

suggests you have Boot Camp installed.  Are there issues with Boot Camp, or only Mac OS X?
    Is your data backed up?

  • Windows Installler keeps repeating

Hello guys, I really hope you can save me now. Well the thing is that I ran Boot Camp to install Windows XP and partitioned my hard drive and clicked in 'Start Installation', then the Windows boot assitant showed up and I followed the instructions (the setup with the blue background), formatted the partition and the setup copyed the files but when it tells that the system will restart, it restart but in the same blue screen with the same setup all over again. And I can't access Mac OS, even with holding the option key there's no option for starting with the Mac OS.
    Please help me guys.
    Thanks, John.

the windows installer keeps repeating cause when, after formating partitation, copying files... , windows installation asks before rebooting to remove the any floppy disk or something like that... when it reboots you have to remove the windows cd. To do so press and hold trackpad button until it removes the cd from the drive. then windows will configure and i thing it will ask for the cd again.. its easy from here...
to the second post i didnt understand:
did you accidentally format the hard drive or wrong partitation and you want to install os x again but the cd doesnt recognize the hard drive?
if so you have use disk utility on the os x cd and format hard drive to mac os x "registo cronologico expandido"( in portuguese)
