MY MACBOOK KEYBOARD ONLY TYPES IN CAPITAL LETTERS

my macbook keyboard only types in capial letters

And you posted here with a different computer?
...If not, does the Caps shift around by itself?
Are you using an external keyboard at the same time
and if so, was the Shift key locked on it? You can
choose to set Keyboard settings to ignore input from
the internal keyboard or trackpad, not sure on external.
{Or have you posted with a USB external keyboard?}
I'm presuming the issue is not as obvious as the lighted
'Caps Lock key' that shifts this function on/off. There
may be something sticking in the MacBook keyboard
or perhaps it has some kind of defect issue going on.
Good luck & happy computing!

Sometimes it only writes in capital letters, though capslock not activated, also when switching to see all windows one movement (there or back) is very slow. Already did the hardware test, no problems found. When I use external keyboard working normally and problem stops after a while. Anyone observed the same? Solution??

  • Macbook Keyboard Only Types Weird Symbols

Yesterday my macbook all of a sudden started typing only weird symbols. Every key pressed provides these weird symbols. I have searched for answers on how to fix this but none seem to work:
I have plugged in an external keyboard and that works, so it isn't the OS/software, it is the laptops keyboard.
I have cleaned the "alt keys" in case they were sticking.
I have checked my preferences and the US American Flag is selected.
I am completely open to starting from scratch and resetting the entire system but it doesn't appear to be a solution to this problem.
Any help would be appreciated. I can bring it into a apple store but was hoping I could figure it out through here first.
    Thank you.

    Odd!
Has anything been spilled on the computer at any point in time? Are you under warranty?
I missed the bit about the external keyboard working. You may have a hardware issue that needs repair or replacement.
If you computer has a removable battery, save your work, connect the AC adapter then remove the battery. Does the keyboard still act strangely with the keyboard removed?

However, I suspect that the milk is causing some keys to show full or partial pressing and that is interfering with signals from other key pressings.
I suspect yo need to to clean/replace the internal KB

  • Apple wireless keyboard only types caps

Found this on several other discussions but it was the first time it had happened to me.
Using an Apple wireless keyboard with a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, 15", non-retina display. All had been fine but all of a sudden the wireless keyboard would only type caps. Hitting the cap lock button turned the light on and off but the keystrokes would produce nothing but caps. Additionally, clicking a link in web pages would only add the link to the reading list, instead of going to the link. Not sure if it is related or not but I suspect it is.
Tried several things found in other discussions - replacing batteries, restarting, repaired permissions and the like. Even trashed the cashes folder prior to a restart. This allowed the keyboard to respond correctly but only for a couple seconds, then it reverted to all caps again.
What fixed it for me (as you can see I am now typing in upper and lower case) was disconnecting the wireless keyboard via the Bluetooth menu in the menu bar, a suggestion I saw on another page. Don't delete it, just use the disconnect function, wait about 10 seconds then reconnect via the same menu.
So far so good, but I also just noticed that the shift key was stuck in the depressed position. Not sure how it got that way but I suppose that could have been part of the issue although I never saw anything like mentioned in other discussions.

If the wireless keyboard is still under warranty call tech support.  Let them deal w/it.

  • Momentarily stops working when shift key is used to type in capital Letters

I've been using Firefox for an year, when ever I try to use shift key to google something or type something in capital letters firefox momentarily stops and resumes after 45-60 seconds..!
I'm using the latest version of firefox 23.0.1 but, the problem still persists.

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Apple Remote Desktop 3.2 - Keyboard only types a's

Hi, I upgraded my Apple Remote Desktop Admin application to 3.2 last night.
Connected to a remote location via a VPN connection, using a Draytek 2800 both ends, and upgraded the client software on two macs, an iMac G5 and a PowerBook G4.
Both these where, and still are, on OSX 10.4.5.
No all I can do is type a's. Any key character I type from my location appears on the remote screen as an 'a'.
I can't do a thing. Restarted both macs remotely and fixed the permissions. No help.
As I can't enter an admin password remotely I can't update the OS or run any utilities such a cocktail or Tiger Cache Cleaner.
I have therefore lost all control.
There are no users at the remote location at the moment so I do not know whether keyboard input is ok locally.
Has anyone else had this issue?

Our experience is we got this on 10.4.5 clients when we upgraded our admin clients to 10.4.11 and updated ARD admin to 3.2.1.
We have new systems of 10.4.9 and 11 ready to deploy, but as a quick fix you can update to 10.4.6 with the small updaters from apple:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1046forppc.html 65MB
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1046comboforppc.html 140MB
we have the combo10.4.6 dmg stored on a local webserver and if you SSH in to the client you can do (with the combo updater):
    cd /tmp
    curl -O http://yourservername/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.6PPC.dmg
    hdiutil attach MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.6PPC.dmg
    cd /Volumes/"Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combined Update"/
sudo installer -pkg MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.6PPC.pkg -target "/"
hope this helps others in the sme boat

  • Why is my keyboard only typint CAPITAL LETTERS?

My keyboard only types CAPITAL LETTERS. When I restart the computer it is taking ages to boot and words "Boot Safe" appears in red on the screen. Mail search is not working and nor is spotlight

    vicentelou,
if you made a backup of your system before installing 10.9.4, you can restore from the backup. If you didn’t make such a backup, you can do it manually by booting into Recovery mode, completely erasing your internal disk, letting OS X Internet Recovery redownload and reïnstall your MacBook Pro’s original version of OS X, running Software Update to get it up to date in-version, and if necessary redownloading Mavericks from the Mac App Store and reïnstalling Mavericks — that should get you back to 10.9.3.

  • Why are all my fonts capital letters only?

I was trying to design a birthday invite the other day and all of my fonts are only typing in capital letters. The caps lock is not on and i tried messing with the button on my keyboard thinking maybe it was sticking but this problem is only happening in photoshop. How did my fonts become all caps locked and how can i fix it?

    Hi all
When I try to add text to a picture in my photoshop elements, then it only writes with capital letters.

Anyone knows how to solve this?
And before you think my caps is locked.. then no ;-)

As I have never used PSE, I am not sure if it has something like the Character Palette (probably similar, as the Options Bar above, seems similar), but in PS, there is a setting for All Caps in the Character Palette. That is where one could easily change things to Initial Caps, if that is what is desired.
What happens is that one Opens an image, where All Caps was used, and then does some editing of Text. A good, and common, example of this is with many DVD Menus. The All Caps is a "sticky," and if used for that first Image, will "hang around," when the next Image is Opened. Often, the user is totally unaware that this change has been made - until they start typing and they are not getting what they desire. A simple reset takes care of it.
Here's a look at PS CS2's Character Palette, w/ the All Caps icon active.
I'm surprised that the PSE forum sent you here, as Barb_O and the rest are usually very quick to help with PSE issues.
Good luck, and sorry that I cannot point you directly to a Character Palette in PSE, but I think that you have your answer above.

  • My PSE12 will only type CAPITAL letters no matter what font I choose.  Started doing this yesterday

    My PSE12
will only type CAPITAL letter no matter what font I choose.  Started doing this yesterday and I can't get back to having upper and lower case letters.

Perhaps you could reset the tools using this method:
    1) Launch PSE in Editor Mode
    2) click on the Expert Tab
    3) At the bottom right corner look for something like this :
This should solve the problem quickly.
    Good luck and post back.

  • My keyboard makes noise when i type capital letters.

My keyboard makes a noise (like a typewriter noise) when I type capital letters or use control/command keys.

    Hi Jim,
Tough to tell, but I'd try this for a good start.
I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • I purchased an IPAD2 for my special needs daughter.  She only currently understands lowercase letters only and gets confused with the uppercase letters.  Is there a way to change the keyboard to display lowercase letters?

I purchased an IPAD2 for my special needs daughter.  She only currently understands lowercase letters only and gets confused with the uppercase letters.  Is there a way to change the keyboard to display lowercase letters?

There is no way for the keyboard itself to display only lower case letters. It doesn't display lower case letters at all for that matter.
When you are using the keyboard - The other issue that you will have is with the shift key. Even with auto caps turned off you can still type capital letters if you tap the shift key and if you double tap it by mistake - it will turn into all capital letters so also turn off Caps Lock in the keyboard settings.
Other than that, there is no way to ensure that you can type in lower case.
Maybe an external bluetooth keyboard would be a better solution but I don't use one, and I have never even seen one in person so someone else will have to verify that for you.

  • My Macbook Pro(2010) only writes in capitol letters, can´t write numbers and only starts up in safe mode once a week!

    Hey guys!
So my Macbook started acting weird a couple of months ago. All of a sudden i could only write in capitol letters and i couldnt write any numbers. Every time i tried to write a number, i would only get the symbols instead such as " "#¤%&/ "  etc. I tried restarting it and the computer booted in safe mode and still had the same problem as before. I decided to read around some forums and someone suggested " zapping the PRAM" which i did and it fixed the problem for about 1-2 days and then it was back to the normal.
I decided to turn in my computer to an authorized Apple technician to take a look at it and after a few days i got a phonecall saying that he had run tests for 6 hours but couldnt figure out what was wrong with the computer, he just knew that something was wrong. When i got the computer back it was working perfectly but the weird thing is that every now and then the same thing would happen with the keyboard and the weirdest part is that it usually stopped working on fridays, once a week.. Anyways i have done all i can, now im turning to you guys for some much appriciated help.
Any suggestion on how to fix this problem of mine?

Actually it sometimes gets a little further, the display will dim and the pointer will appear and then whoop it will turn off. if i do a verbose start up, it will finish all the steps, the white screen will appear and dim and then it will turn off.
