My Macbook OS 10.4.11 Cant connected to other macs in my network.

  • Can not connect to other macs on the network.

    Hi,
I am having an issue with a G5 Tower running 10.5.8 failing to connect to other macs on the network. I try to connect to our xserver and any other mac I get an error message that reads ‘EMSG_CONNECTION_FAILED’.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks in advance,
    pvteyes99

Turns out the 'node' on the hub had failed completely, ethernet cable was OK.

  • Connecting to other macs on the network

When I first installed 10.5 connecting to my network computers was dead easy, I have a mini (Server) iMac and macBook.
As time went by it got slower and slower to connect. Nowerdays clicking one of those macs on the left hand side can take half a minute to decide if anythings there.
Also the VNC viewer inbuilt is a dog, plenty of times, i.e. 50% of the time control just goes and usually when shrinking the screen to fit the current screen, Chicken of the VNC work flawlessly.
So basically what can I do to get the tasty nippy networking back I had when I first installed 10.5?
Oh and in 10.4 if a networked computer went offline you could usually expect the finder to crash for a minute or 2 until it decided the 'server was interrupted', so obviously I was delighted to find it was instantaneous in 10.5, however not anymore, now I am back to the same old beach ball whilst it decides just what its doing

In my experience using screen sharing in leopard is much faster on a local network than using the vnc clients such as chicken of the vnc and jollysfast vnc client.
I now use screen sharing over the internet through an ssh tunnel and that is blazingly fast. My server is also a mac mini a 1.8ghz intel.

  • An connect to other Macs via Share Screen, but not RemoteDesktopAdmin

Please help. I can connect to other Macs on the network via Share Screen, but cannot get a connection using Remote Desktop Admin.  Just keeps being stuck on verify.  Running Lion 10.7.3 with latest Remote Desktop Admin.  All Macs are on the same local ethernet network.  All was fine before update to 10.7.3.

Thank you Dave for responding.  I did check the above as you mentioned.  In the end, I decided to roll back my mac via  timemachine to it's pre `10.7.3 upadre state.  Not sure why it took me so long to think of that ... perhaps it was just tooo obvious   Anyway, all is now working, and for whatever reason, re-installing the 10.7.3 combo update didn't break Remote Desktop Admin the second time now.  Not a clue way it worked , but glad it did.

If Join was on then your home wi-fi must be set to Non-Broadcast.  If you did not set this up (maybe your provider did) then you will need to find the Network Name they used, and any password they used.  The SSID is Security Set ID and to see more try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID .  Basically it is the name used to identify your router/network.  A lot of times the installer will leave it set as LinkSys, or Broadcom or whatever the manufacturer set it as for default.  Your best bet is to get whoever installed it to walk you through how they set it up, giving you id's and passwords so you can get in.  HOWEVER, if you are not comfortable with this (if you set security wrong, etc.) you would be well ahead of the game to hire a local computer tech (networking) to get this working for you.  You can also contact the vendor of your router and get help (if it is still in warranty), or at least get copies of the manuals as pdf files.  Sorry I can't give you more help, I hope this gives you an idea where to go from here to find more.

  • I cant connect my ibook to my wifi network

I recently aquired a iBook running Mac OS X, and I'm trying to connect it to my WiFi network. I select the network and put in the WEP key, but keep getting an error message. . . Help..!!

Can the iBook connect to an unsecured wireless network? Can it connect to other WEP-protected wireless network, just not yours? If so, what is the make & model of the router used in your wireless network?

  • NAS drives grayed out and can't connect to other Macs

    Hello All,
After upgrading my 15-inch, Mid 2010 MacBook Pro to Mavericks (10.9 13A603) my NAS storage drives are grayed out in Finder. I can't go directly to my NAS drive in Finder. I can't simply click on the NAS drives in Finder and see what is in the directory. The directories are grayed out!.
In order for me to connect to my NAS stotage drive I have to go to "DEVICES" on the leftside of the Finder window and then click on the MacBook Pro HD. From there I have to click on "Network." From "Network" I can get a slow connection to my NAS.
As for as connection to other Macs in my office, I have to take the same steps above. I can't connect directly to the other Macs in my office in Finder. Nether can the other Macs connect to other Macs! All Macs in the office are set up to allow both AFP and SMB. However, one lonely 2009 iMac in our office is still on Mountian Lion and it can connect to other Macs and the our NAS without problems.
One strange things this, I can do a Screen Share to the other Macs from my 2010 MacBook Pro! I can't connect directly in Finder, but I can do a Screen Share. Strange!
Is there a fix for this or was Marverick let out the jungle to earily?
    Help! and Thanks!

I forgot to add that everything was previously connected via an Airport express wireless system. I just got an Airport Extreme system which hasn't changed things a bit.

  • Has anyone resolved the issue of not connecting with other Mac users?

I was able to use iSight with YAhoo. But, lately when i try to connect to other Mac users with iChat & iSight, I get the "you didn't respond.....message of death". I sent it in to Apple. The full error log, if it matter is going to follow this email. I changed my port settings as I thought I read that woudl fix it but it hasn't. Any pointers? Thanks - Steve.

  • We have a PC with iTunes that needs the hard drive reformatted. Right now, it can't connect to other computers on the network. Can I save my music to a thumb drive, then re-load when the computer is reformatted?

We have a Windows XP desktop with iTunes for windows. The hard drive needs to be reformatted. Right now, the computer will not connect to other computers on the network. Can I save my iTunes songs to a thumbdrive, then re-load after reformatting?  How do I do it?

Copy the entire iTunes folder out to the drive. If it is too big to go as one copy stuff over to another computer in batches. It is important to have not only the media but the library file in order to properly restore your library.
See also this User Tip. Assuming the machine won't connect to the internet you could download the SyncToy installer on another machine and then transfer it with the thumb drive. If it will connect to the net don't forget to deauthorize the machine before reformatting the hard drive.

  • I am able to connect to my wifi network but am not able to connect to other computers on my network

I am able to connect to my wifi network but am not able to connect to other computers on my network. I have installed windows 7 on parallels desktop, from windows i am able to access my network computers. But from Mac i can only access internet but not network computers Please help

Ok, well if you're sure that there are shared folders on your PC's, then try this:
Click somewhere on desktop, so you're in finder > Go > Connect to Server (shortcut to all of this is Command + K) then type in: smb://ipaddresshere
    eg:
    smb://192.168.1.7
Then either connect as guest, or login with the PC's (not your mac's) username & password.

In what way are you trying to connect? File sharing? Printer sharing? Screen sharing? Something else?
How are your computers connected to this network? What happens when you try to connect to them?
    Best of luck.

  • Can't Connect to Other Computers on My Network

I am unable to connect to other computers on my network. When I go to Finder/GO/Network the next window which should display the servers on the network, opens momentarily and then closes. After that, nothing happens when I repeat the sequence. I am able to get out on the internet but am unable to connect to the other computers on the network, so I think my Linksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway is working. The computer is an intel Mac Pro running OS 10.4.11. My wife is able to connect to other computers on the network with her iMac running OS 10.3.9. Any suggestions for remedying this would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully Apple will come to your aid
    • Make sure all the computers on your LAN are on AppleTalk w/ File Sharing: On
    • Check the Firewall settings of all workstations
    • Confirm that your User or Admin account has sufficient Privileges to access sharepoints
    • Reboot all machines to flush their DHCP lease or IP bottleneck
P.S. there are known issues currently with Leopard File Sharing to-and-from pre-Leopard OS X's. I do not know why your window magically closes itself. Last, run Software Update. Good luck.

  • Connecting to other computers on the network

I just replaced an older Belkin wireless router with the new Airport extreme. I like it very much but I cannot now figure out how to connect to other computers on the network. With the old router I just clicked on network in the finder window and all the other computers on the network showed up an dI could click on one to connect. Now I see notheng. Any ideas????

I'm getting the same problem. I used to have the snow AEBS, but about 2 weeks ago I got the new one. Never had a problem connecting to my other macs in the house through network in the finder... now, no other machines show up.
Because there's no communication or recognition of devices through AEBS, wireless printing goes out the door too. My printer is plugged in by ethernet to my house network. If I am connected by ethernet to my network, I can print, but if it's wireless, nope.
Today, I got the apple tv. I was super excited unboxing it, hooking it up... and then when I go to sync up through itunes... oh wait, it doesn't show up in the devices list because of my AEBS problem.
Anyone have any ideas? I would love to play around with apple tv so please help... thanks.

  • Can't connect to other Macs from MBP

I have a 2.4 SR MBP that I cannot connect to other macs in our house including an 2.0 MBP and a Mac Pro. I can see them in the shared computers but they won't connect. I have all of the computers set up the exact same way on sharing. I'm even setting it up now that all users can connect. Any thoughts?

I forgot to add that everything was previously connected via an Airport express wireless system. I just got an Airport Extreme system which hasn't changed things a bit.

  • G4 freezes while connecting to another Mac over the network

This is a mirror-drive, Dual 1GHz PowerPC G4, 1.25 GB RAM. It was recently repurposed as a hand-me-down when we upgraded. We cleaned it up and reinstalled everything. It connects to the internet just fine. Other computers can find it on the network and connect to it just fine. When I try to connect from this G4 to any other Mac on the network, I can find the other computers and I get the login popup, but when I put in the password and click OK, I get the color-wheel that never goes away. I have to power it off and try again.
This computer has been a work-horse for several years and has been on our network with no problems. This has just popped up since we moved it to a different desk.
One side note, we did upgrade our network recently, but none of the other Macs (including 2 other G4's) are having this problem.
    thoughts? suggestions?
    thanks.

What version of the Mac OS is the MDD running?
This has just popped up since we moved it to a different desk.
If that involved unplugging the computer from the wall, then a dead or weak PRAM battery may have let the computer lose something that it needs for the task. How old is the battery and how much time has the G4 spent off wall power in the last few years? If your firm requires unplugging computers at night (some do now in an effort to be more "green"), then the battery is surely dead by now.
