My macbook OS (mac os x 10.6.8) is slow, sometime it hangs.
sometime while watching movies online my macbook hangs. Suggest some solution.
is it an issue with safari?
I am told that this MacBook cannot have its memory increased to more than 1GB. Is that right?

i had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions from http://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
step 3-
open Terminal
step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
killall iTunes
killall "iTunes Helper"
sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life. -
Auto Sync iTunes Libraries between Macbook and Mac Mini?
I download and store all of my music on my Mac book. But I would like to know if it is possible to make it so that, if I add 3 songs to my macbook, my Mac Mini will reflect the same changes, and vice versa. Kind of like what Mobile Me does with iCal and Contacts.
So If I add a song on my Macbook, my home network would transfer the song to my Mac Mini and update the iTunes library?
And I'd rather not use an external network drive to keep my library on, because I need my music physically on my Macbook.
Is this possible?

I bought a new MacBook Pro (Mac Os 10.8.4) when conecting my mobile broadband dongle (Huawei E122) the computer does not read it at all. I do not have problems when connecting it to my former computer (PC) and a Mac from last year. Any suggestions?

Yes, I did that. They have uppgrades for the dongles, but just untill Mac Os 10.7. Their solution is to buy a new modem from them or getting one for free if I sign a contract for 24 months! So, i think from that side not very helpful.
It is just that I do not want to buy a new modem, when it works in quite recent computers and after having spent money in the new Mac.

Disk warrior came highly recommended on other posts but because the drive is not mac os formatted it won't do its warrior magic...
The drive shows in disk utility but the options to repair are greyed out. The drive ejects sometimes but not others. The drive powers up with light and I can hear noise (not loud just a hum that confirms (i think) that it is spinning.). The drive is as it cames and booted on both a windows XP pc and my macbook with mac os x 10.5.8.
I have tried test disk but after running for a day with no other command prompts other than the first recommend I uninstalled it.

It's quite possible the AC PSU has given out, if It's only Bus powered as it appears, that's the worst idea ever & asking for eventual problems.

You don't. Since you have an Intel Mac, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

i enjoy karaoke and have numerous vcd's of karaoke songs. I wanted to make a compilation vcd of my own, containing my favourite karaoke songs but I am unable to achieve this on my macbook pro (mac os 10.6.8). Can you tell me how to step by step?
I had issues in 10.4.7 as well as 10.4.8.
My problems occurred at the beginning of 10.4.8, then many users brought light to me using WEP, which was not working that great. I changed my connections to WPA2 and my problem has disappeared. If my problem didn't resolve the way it did, I would have mentioned it the next time I visited an apple store.
The bottom line is that assumptions, complaining, and self diagnostics don't get many people very far and bringing the problem to apple helps them know the incidence of this problem, and helps them develop a reliable solution.
Though some users have reported the "cold shoulder" when reporting Airport problems to apple... I hope you weren't one of them. -

Hello! I'm considering getting an Apple and have a question:
My wife's laptop needs to be replaced and I'm considering a new MacBook 13" laptop for my wife. We would use iLife for our family photos and movies.
When she is at home, she'd like to connect to a bigger screen, our Samsung 19" 913V.
I really have 2 questions:
1. What are the key differences between Macbook and Mac mini?
2. If we go with the Macbook 13" can we close the lid, can we connect it to the monitor and an external keyboard, external firewire drive just as we would with the Mac mini?

AlanThe new Macbooks (Core 2 Duo 2.0/2.2 Santa Rosa) released in October 2007 now have an Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory, compared to the GMA 950 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM for the Mac Mini. I don't know about the graphic performance of those new Macbooks, but I have a Macbook from the previous generation with the same graphic interface of the Mac Mini and I can say I'm really satisfied. If you don't play high-end games (released in the last 2 years), you'll be OK. I play Warcraft 3 on my Macbook and it runs great, except the fans rev up to 5000 rpm, making the notebook noisier, but nothing shocking or disturbing. The Macbook is also great for anything like iDVD or iMovie, for average video editing.
If you want portability, play high-end games and do some heavy video editing, go with a Macbook Pro.
If not, just go with Macbook, this notebook kicks a**. -

I cannot use Quicken on my new MacBook Air (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2) Any suggestions? I love Quicken and it takes care of all my financial needs.
You can wait for Quicken to update (supposedly in the works) or you can switch to another application such as Quicken Essentials or another application of which there are several you will find at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
Otherwise you'll need to return your MBA and buy a slightly older model Mac that still runs Snow Leopard. Lion will not run any PPC-only applications such as Qucken or MS Office 2004. -
