My Macbook power button wont start up

Hi,
My Macbook wont start up at all. I have charge in the battery and the power lead lights up green when plugged in, but when I press the power button there's nothing. This happened after the macbook turned off whilst I was working on it. I tried restarting and it got to the logo page then turned off again. I've had no power since.
I've tried resetting the smc with no luck. Any advice would be grateful before I head to my local apple store.
Kind Regards

Quick update..
I have opened it up, and the only visible problem seems to be the orange ribbon cable which is on top of the hard drive. There is a white chalky residue/possibly dried-in glue?
Does anyone know if this might be connected?
Thanks for your help!

Try restoring the iPod to rule out a software problem. First restore from backup and then to factory defaults/new iPod.
Then an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Black MacBook power button?

    Hi
I have a situation with a black macbook. I Describe it step by step to see if anyone can help me with a diagnosis.
First of all I want to specify that I consider myself an intermediate user, since I work in consulting and training on the Mac, but 70% software and 30% focused on hardware and the problem that I face now is hardware.
It is a 2006 black Macbook which HD died.
    - I changed the hard drive.
    - Until then, the power button always worked.
    - When attempting to install the system, I realize that the installer does not detect the hard drive attached, so I figured It was misplaced.
    - When tried to reinstall it, I realized that one of the rail that leads the hard disk had come loose and prevented the disk to properly get docked.
    - I disassembled the Mac to fix that.
    - I make the correction (I've dismantled several that model several times )
    - At the end I power it up, and nothing ....
    - The MagSafe connector is delivering power. I dismantled it again and check that it was well armed ... Everything is fine, but it will not start ..
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance ..

    sorry for the repeats

  • Power Mac wont start up

My power mac G5 wont start up. When i turn it on it comes up with a message saying you need to restart you computer and a load of script drops down in the top left hand corner. I cant get past it and tried everything. This happens everytime i turn it on.
    HELP!!!!!

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
    Have you-
1- Removed/disconnected all devices, except for keyboard, mouse and monitor?
2- Checked your panic log? You can check the kernel panic log any time that you must force restart your computer, using either the power button, interrupt button, or the Control-Command-power key combination. The kernel panic text is added to the log the next time you restart the computer, assuming that you have not reset PRAM at the same time (the kernel panic text is stored in PRAM until you restart). The file is named "panic.log", and it is located on your startup disk at: /Library/Logs/.
The panic report is also the "script" that is displayed when the "restart your computer" message appears. A copy of the report would help.
3- Tried a "safe boot"? Hold down the "shift" key when starting.

4- After checking the panic log, try resetting the PRAM:

  • My ipod 3g home and power button wont work!

Last night I woke up to find my ipod touch on. IT was probably on for 4-5 hours. I pressed the sleep button but nothing happened. I pressed it over and over but no luck. So I tried press the home and power button on at the same time but nothing happened. Eventually it went to sleep and restarted and the home button worked but not the sleep. I restarted it again and now both of the buttons dont work. I restarted it at least 4 times. Eventually the home but will work but it lags about 40 seconds. During the night my ipod would shut off, shut on, picture, shutt off shut on, picture etc etc. I dont think the buttons are totally busted and I feel like I can fix it. I haven't tried putting it into itunes yet. Someone please help!

  • Macbook Power Button Dead?

    Hey all.
I have this oldie 13 inch white macbook which was working smooth until a few days ago.
The power button stopped working while it was on, so to turn it off I went to 'shut down' under the apple (I know I shouldn't have turned it off in the first place)
After a lot of trouble, I 'jumpstarted' it as suggested on some forums, i.e.connected two contacts on the logic board.
My macbook is out of warranty for long time so I don't worry.
Anyways, just wondering if someone has the same problem or if someone knows how to fix dead power button?
Please no answers like just send it to apple as I live in a remote place, with the nearest apple store being somewhere 500 miles away from me.
    Thanks

Thanks for your replies, as I mentioned, it's a white macbook with 13",  there is only one model of them (A1181) and they are made between 2006 and 2009 as far as I'm aware and all look identical, also all have identical connections except backlight for penryn and santa rosa models. Mine is core 2 duo 2ghz late 2006 if it matters.
@bestofall- mine is older (non-unibody) so it comes apart as one piece. Advantage is that it takes apart easily, disadvantage is, as you said, I cannot just replace the button, I must replace the whole keyboard.
Also an update, randomly num lock and caps lock buttons became inverted, now I have to keep them on (green led on) in order to type normally, otherwise I get all-caps or a bunch of random numbers.

  • Macbook Pro just wont start?

Ive had my MBP for little over a week and everything was working fine. A few days ago I tried turning it on and the LED light on the button that flips the screen up came on, I could hear everything inside spinning around and whatever so that all seemed fine but I couldnt hear any sounds that you normally hear when you turn it on (Like that big DUMMM when the apple logo appears) and the screen just stays black. So its as though ti starts, but just before the screens about to turn on, everything stops. The usual reaction kicked in, i s* myself! Considering this MBP was bought for me for my course and it needs to be handed in at the end so it is not technically mine. I held the power button and turned it off, pressed the power button and turned it on again and it worked. So i didnt think much of it. Then it became more frequent and last night I was on safari and safari just crashed, i tried force quit and then my MBP just switched off. I tried to turn it on and the same thing happened, only it hasnt switched back on no matter how hard I try. Its been broke since last night and I need it preferably for tommorow morning.
Ive looked and there seems to be similar problems, but they all get solutions like Hold the power button, hold cntl, cmd, p and r and whatever but that doesnt help me. Nothing happens!
Also I placed a DVD in my MBP to check if the optical drive was working fne and it succesfully swalloed it without giving it back and now I dont know how to get that out. Ive tried turning it on and holding the mouse button (even though its a trackpad) and nothing works.
    HELPPPP?!
Would anybody reccomend the genius bar? Plus does it cost? Do I need proof the MBP is mine because all the documents are at the place where I take my course.

I dont have the installer disk, its all at where I do my course... The only thing I have is my laptop and power lead. I was hoping I could et it fixed myself so its like it never happened and it can be forgotton about. Sounds a bit wierd but you know... Saves the ear ache.
And i meant does the genius bar cost? Sorry for the inconvenience. (Spelling :S)
EDIT: The cmd, option o and f keys dont work.

  • My Ipod nano power button wont work while headset are in, how do i fix it?

Hello, I got myself a iPod nano 6th gen. and I'm already having  problems with it.  I got it from ebay and it was working all good, expect  one day the power/sleep button just stop working when the headset are plugged in.
so this is how I can somewhat make it  work on it but it still stinks to work with it like this.  When I have  no head set plug in, it works all fine.  The power/sleep button is okay,  the volume button is okay, and the touch screen is okay, but once I  plug the headset set in, if shut off after 1 second, and cant turn it  back on, then if i plug my power cable in then I can use the touch  screes, but the power/sleep button doesn't work as well the volume  buttons.  Now if I do a soft reset with the power button and down volume  and get the apple logo on, I can quickly get the headset plug in and  play the music with out the power cable in, but still cant use the  button at all.   Also when I have it plug in to the power cable then plug  in the headset, it shut off until I replug in the power cable or remove the headset to turn it back on.
How  can I fix this?  I tried the factory reset through iTunes, and it  didn't help.  I try the diagnostic and that didn't help.  Should I just  send it in and pay for the repair cost or what?

The earphones must be pushed very hard into the iPod. So hard, that the white part of the plug must touch the iPod in order for the external speakers to turn off. You will hear a click.
If you do a forum search, you will find this same solution. If it does not work, you will need to take your iPod to an Apple store or call the Apple iPod tech support if still under warranty or you have Apple Care.

  • Power button wont make t510 sleep anymore?

    Hi guys
I used to be able to press the power button in the middle of my T510, (above the keys and below the screen) and it would put my laptop to sleep and bring it out of sleep too.
For some reason it now doesnt do this anymore.  Very occasionally it will work b8t most of the time I have to to make it sleep by pressing Fn+F4 which is a little annoying.
Can anyone suggest how I can make this work again or where you change the settings of these kinds of things]
    Thanks
    Alex
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello mate,
You can change that with power manager. Open it in advanced mode and under your current power plan, you can see Event. Expand that for the option Power button you have 4 choices : Do nothing, sleep, shut down or hibernate. Choose the one you want.
You can do that under windows as well. Go to Control panel>Hardware and sound>Power options. On the left you can see Choose what the power button do. Go there and change the setting.

  • My iphone is stuck on the settings screen but the home button and lock and power buttons wont work. I can navigate through my settings but can't get out of them or turn off my phone.

My iphone is stuck on the settings screen and the home and lock buttons wont work. I can navigate through the settings but canot go home or turn orr or reset my phone. Please help):

I had the same situation with my iPod touch 5th gen. You can manually reboot it thru pressing sleep/wake button and holding it up to 10 secs - no data will be lost.. This didn't work in mine, but to some it did..
If it won't work, you could do what I did which is I reset all settings in the Reset part. It won't lose any data, just the settings (if you have just less settings did to the device, which I had). So just configure or tweak things again in the settings when it reset again.
    Hope this somehow helps!
