My MacBook Pro 13 has a really loud fan
When I play games on my macbook pro 13 the fan kicks in and it is a really loud one. my cousin has the exact same macbook pro same Early 2011, but his is not as loud as mine. I also like to talk to my firends on skype to so the intergrated mic picks up the fan noise I dont know what to do. Please help.
The 13" is not a 3D gaming machine, it's all integrated graphics and the CPU isn't designed for it.
It only scores 11 on Cinebench.
For that you need a 15" or larger with it's own discrete graphics card. Scores 30-45 depending which card it has.
Many Mac users often buy without realizing what they bought can't do what they expected, Apple really doesn't assist, just stands there and takes your money. You really need to do your comptuer homework.

All we can suggest is don't 3D game, don't block the air ports, use on a level hard surface so air gets underneath and through the machine.
Use it in a cool room.
You can do a SMC reset if the fans are on all the time with no heavy activity.

If your Mac works slowly when fans turn on, it's quite possible that there's a process which is eating the CPU and/or RAM.
Open Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities), select "All Processes" above "Show" (in the toolbar) and then, order the processes by CPU usage. Do you see any process which is consuming more CPU or RAM? If so, tell us the name.

MacBook Pro (2012) running slow with loud fan?
My 2012 MacBook Pro has all of a sudden being running very slow while running the fan really loudly even though the computer is not hot? I have done the SMC reset, and checked the disk for any problems and both have not changed anything. I have checked the activity monitor and it says 433 GB free and my CPU seems to low in all applications as far as I can understand. First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the slowdown.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -
Macbook pro 15 2011 - blank screen loud fan
my laptop shut down unexpectedly. ( just before I had plugged an external hdd to find a photo, I never saw the hdd in finder)
it was dead, I left it for 30 hours, nothing. I left it a further 24 hour and the battery light showed it was charging and when I tried to start it, it started the fan (loud) beeped once, nothing on the screen .
What could be wrong/ what can I do?
mTry resetting the SMC. If that does nit help, take it in for diagnosis.

There's a process that is taking up the RAM and CPU. Open Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities), and select "All Processes" above "Show" in the toolbar. Then, order processes by CPU, and tell me which processes you see that are consuming more CPU -

What is the exact name of the cable I need to connect my old hard drive from my macbook pro, which has been removed from the computer, to my new macbook pro? I need to transfere files from the old hard drive to the new computer.
No eSATA to USB. Just a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Google SATA/IDE to USB adapter and you will get tons of links to buy them. Most likely your local computer electronics store has them, although they might be more expensive buying locally than online.
I have several. You can get either USB 2, which what I recommend, or USB 3. USB is backward compatible so a USB 3 adapter will work on a USB 2 port and a USB 2 adapter will work on a USB 3 port. Backward compatible in both directions.
I suggest a USB 2 type because there have been some problems with certain USB 3 devices, the USB 3 interface used isn't all that good in those certain devices. USB 3 is still fairly new where as USB 2 has been around for over 10 years.

Mid 2010 macbook pro that has sleeping issues
I have a mid 2010 macbook pro that has had problems sleeping and the screen goes randomly black but does not put the actual computer to sleep and you can still see and move the cursor. It seems like tons of people have had the same issue. I recently updated the software to mountain lion but it did not help. The problem is when I close the lid, it does not go to sleep and wastes tons of battery or goes black while i am working on it. HELP!
Order a new battery.

I was wondering if someone can help me. I have a MacBook Pro, it has came up saying I need to free up space on the disk as it full every time it starts up, so I log in and no icons or applications show up on the screen just my background wallpaper, the only thing I can do is the force quit keyboard shortcut but there is nothing to quit, I have tried to start up in safe mode but again there is no icons in the desktop,
I have my disks that came with my laptop I have went into disk utility to repair disk and I still seem to have the same problem .. No icons or apps or anything lol just the cursor I can only shut down the laptop via power but and the press shut down.
Please help I am going out my mind with this thing :(

I have a MacBook pro that has power issues and will not start but the hardrive is fine. I do not want to lose all of my files so I was wondering if it's possible to transfer my hardrive from a older Macbook pro to a new one if I were to purchase a new one? Also, the software is not updated as the computer hasn't worked for about 2 months.
Also, if it is possible to transfer the hardrive, would my iTunes music transfer as well? It is not saved in the cloud.
Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
Connect it the new computer
Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

You mean for Office apps? That, I don't know for sure as I don't use MS Office on my Mac. I would check to see if there is some sort of MS Office uninstaller that needs to be run before dragging the icons to Trash. Either from one of the Office apps Help or About or search the Internet for a solution.

When using Migration Assistant to move files from old PC laptop to new MacBook Pro, that has Windows 8 installed containing Outlook, will emails, contacts and calendar entries be moved to Outlook on the new MacBook or into Mail, Contacts and Calendar?
I doubt they will. But then I'm not sure as I used a migration program once about 18 years ago and totally FUBARed the system I had at that time and I've never used one again.
For me the reason to have a new system is to start fresh. Installing only program that I now use and manually copying data over from the older system.
Not sure your older version of Outlook, and the outlook mail boxes, are compatible with Office/Outlook for Mac 2011.
A better place to ask this question would be on the MS Office for Mac forums.
