My Macbook Pro 13" lost Internet connection last night. Why?

My Macbook Pro 13" lost Internet connection last night. It's still out today, but my mother's Windows machine still gets it just fine. What happened to my Mac? The folks at Comcast told me it's a problem for Apple to fix. I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight.

see if there is anything for you.

  • My Macbook Pro i7 lost wifi connection

Hi, my Macbook Pro i7 lost wifi connection. I don't know why, but my connection is lost every time. I've other PC, tablets etc. (Windows, iPhone, iPad) and all is ok. Only Macbook Pro i7 have this problem. Some help?

Well if then, if it is two weeks old, I suggest a trip to the Genius Bar at your Apple Store... it may well be a warranty issue.
I am sorry I was not able to be any help at all besides WANTING to!
Were you running your other wireless machines at the SAME time? And you had nobody in the house using  mixers (for drinks or cake and cookie batter) or hair dryers? Clothes dryers....?
While thinking of Brasil and weather- I saw on our public TV station a few months ago- a story about a fishing boat, I think south of Rio de Janeiro, who encountered a hurricane- and only one fellow lived. Ouch!
Report back if you can save the link to the page, or the emails of the answers, to tell what the Apple store said...

  • My Macbook Pro ran out of battery last night and wouldn't turn back on even when connected to power for a period of time. However, when I woke up, it did turn on. Is there a reason this happened and should I get it looked at?

Last night, I was watching something on my Macbook Pro and it died (out of battery). I went to plug it in and waited a couple of minutes to try and start it back up. However, when I connected the power source the light was green, which could not have been the case since I know 100% it was out of battery. I proceeded to hold the start button for a long period of time, but my computer made no noise and refused to turn on - it looked like for all intensive purposes it was dead. I left it alone overnight praying that it would be alright in the morning and luckily, when I opened the computer this morning it was restarted and fine. I'm concerned because I've had this happen to me a couple of times and while it always turns back on, I feel like there is a bigger issue that I need to get addressed. Can anyone help me with this? Any ideas? Thank you!

    From that article
    "Portables with built-in batteries"
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.
I rather think I will take Apples advice on using their equipment not yours, but I would be intrigued to discover what is it you know that Apple doesnt about its batteries?

  • Macbook and macbook pro lose wifi internet connection. Why?

Have moved house, got a new internet connection everything has been ok for 2 weeks. Suddenly both my macbook and my son's macbook pro won't stay on the internet. They lose connection every 3/4 minutes.
We turn the airport off, close safari and then turn ariport in again. You can reconnect again but only for a short while.
We have other devices that connect to internet - internet radio etc. These don't drop connection so I don't think it's the internet/modem playing up. Even when these devices are turned off the internet connection fails on the macs.
I can also connect successfully to the internet using the ethernet cable.
    What has happened?
    Have we got malware?
    What can I do?

You haven't brought any new technology which will effect your wifi signal? Like TV or Audio?
Have you tried to change the channel?
The problem really has to be related to the actual wifi router as both MacBooks have become effected.
If it was just the one MacBook, then there could be a possibility of some hardware having problems in the MacBook.
Are you getting a strong signal but no Internet?
If you have a house phone connected to the same socket as the router, the filter could need replacement.
Most DSL lines have filters that often need replacement after a period of time.

  • Strong WiFi, but MacBook Pro says no internet connection.

Even though I have a strong WiFi signal (symbol in upper right corner of screen), Safari says I have no Internet connection.  Mail also.
So I have to restart my router every 5-10 minutes.  It works for a few minutes and then no connection again.
My iPad3 still has a connection when the MacBook Pro says none is available.
    Router is a 2-Wire 1800HG.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Try changing the channel in the router's admin area.

  • Sharing MacBook Pro's Airport internet connection with PS3 through Ethernet

    Can this happen?
Tried several times and the connection seems to fail every time.
    Any ideas?

In OSX I haven't got my iPod touch to do diddly squat, but it does work in Bootcamp XP, although in an odd way. If no activity in about 10 seconds the next time you enter a web address or something into the iPod Touch it seems to take awhile to re-enable the connection, but other than that it works rather dependably.
    My setup:
Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz used with Sprint EX720 Expresscard used in Bootcamp with Windows XP. Now I bought my God Daughter a touch iPod the same day I bought mine and it appeared that hers worked in OSX. I will get with her hopefully this evening to confirm this. If it is true I may try exchanging mine, since both were bought only a few days ago.
I spend more of my leisure time in XP anyway, just wish it wouldn't - oh wait, here's another thing; if my Powerbook is sharing the wireless connection from my Macbook Pro, which is in Windows, there is absolutely no pausing and the iPod Touch works like a charm. So evidently it is the iPod which is breaking the connection when no other device is using it; I notice it searches for new connections every 10 seconds (if you watch that little spinning ball icon which appears every ten in Settings/WiFi networks in the iPod display. Maybe someone has some clues as to what's going on there. Is there a way to set up a ping or something OR stop it from searching for new connections to keep the MBP connection active?

  • Macbook Pro (mid 2010) internet connection problem

I just bought new MacBook Pro. I connect it via Ethernet, and all of the settings are what they should be, and it says that it is connected, but when i open safari, it doesn't open any page, saying "can't open the page, the server is not responding", and itunes doesn't connect to the itunes store either. At the same time, when i plug the cable in my dekstop pc, everything is fine.

If you had the cable plugged into the PC and then swapped the cable and plugged it into the MBP you need to power cycle your modem so it forgets that it was connected to the PC. And vice versa.

  • Macbook Pro has good internet connectivity, but when I try to open a web page it will not open

I have good internet connectivity but cannot open any webpages , since I cleared all History. Also System is slow - spinning pinwheel spins forever!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Ive never had any problems with my MacBook pro, but turned it off last night, now it won't turn on again...HELP!

so like it says, ive never had an issue. and now it won't turn on. it's plugged in to charge, and the light is green, as usual. I don't know what's happened, is there a way to turn it on at all? or am I going to have to take it into apple?

The Mac is inherently a Multi-User system, even if you are the only one who ever used it.
This means that System Directories are kept almost entirely unmodified, and all of YOUR files, including things that seem like "system-wide" preferences, are all kept under /Users/Your login/ in your private directory.
I recommend you re-install Mac OS X. That should restore any parts of the System you discarded by accident. Your files should remain untouched throughout the entire process, PROVIDED you have no pre-existing Directory damage.
If you are running 10.7 or later, hold down Command-R at startup, which will take you to Recovery_HD, and use Disk Utility to (Repair Disk). Run it again until it is stuck or finds no more errors.
    Then re-download and re-install Mac OS X.
You should not need to do a "clean Install" [where one copies off all User files onto two Backups, erases the drive, and installs on a clean drive]. Any part of Mac OS X that was missing or damaged will be replaced by a fresh copy.

  • Macbook Pro suddenly will not connect to the internet via ethernet cable.

I know this is a long shot... but I figured I would give it a try.
My macbook pro suddenly does not connect to the internet via ethernet cable. Please bear with me, as I am not very tech-savvy - I will try my best to describe the symptoms!
I connect to the internet via ethernet (we don't have wifi). It was working before I went to work, and when I came home I suddenly couldn't get anything to work (I know everyone says this, but I truly didn't mess with anything). Internet browsers just think for awhile and then turn up the 'You are not connected to the internet' error.
I went into my network preferences and curiously, the 'Ethernet' shows a green dot and says 'connected'. However it says 'Authentication server is not responding' underneath the last part that says '802.1X: WPA: eduroam' (I think that is my user profile).
When I go into my 'security' settings I can see that my firewall is off, so that shouldn't be causing any problems.
I've tried restarting the router and computer itself many times. Diagnostics just gets to a certain point and reports back 'Network Diagnostics cannot fix the current networking problems.' I've also tried switching to a different ethernet cable, and I tried both cables out on a PC laptop and it connected without issue.  Additionally, I brought my macbook along to a friend's house and it connected to his wifi just fine, so the problem appears to just be with ethernet connections.
I know it's hard to troubleshoot this kind of thing without being there and having a look at the computer yourself, but any tips wouild be greatly appreciated.

As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues.

  • How do I connect my MacBook pro to the Internet through the 3G server on my iPhone?

Does anyone know how to connect my MacBook pro to the Internet through the 3G server on my iPhone?

There is a service called Personal Hotspot that uses your iPhone's connection to share with other devices. You will need to sign up for this service through your carrier. Good luck

On my new MacBook Pro when I am connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable, Facebook pictures do not load. They show up as white boxes with blue question marks. This also happens on a website editor. But, when I am connected to the internet via Wifi, everything load properly. This is my work computer, so I have to be able to connect through the Ethernet cable to access everything. Please help me!

I mostly use Safari. But I also tried it on Firefox, Mozilla, and Camino. Mac OS X. It's my work computer, so I've only tried it at the office. I have to be connected through the Ethernet cable to access my files and email on the server.
