I plugged in iPhone 5 charger to my MacBook Pro and it immediately shut down and I can't get it restarted. Any ideas how to do this without removing the battery?

MacBook Pro Mid-2010 Intermittent Shut-Down and Fuzzy Screen

Hi,
My MacBook Pro Mid-2010 has been having some problems recently. Hope someone will be able to help me with this. Below are the symptoms that has been showing.
Symptoms:
1. Intermittent Shutdown
2. Screen going fuzzy (when I give it a slight tap it will be fine but everything just hangs)
3. 3 beep sound
4. Can't start up (The sleep light will just stay on but nothing appears. I have to force shutdown and try starting it again.)
I have recently done a clean install of Yosemite but the problem is still occuring.
I also took it down to Singapore Apple Service Centre to try to get the problem fixed. But the initial tests shows that all the components in the Mac is working fine. I will need to pay for a full test as my Mac is out of warranty hence I did not send it in.

I just had the same problem! Just installed Mavericks a couple of days ago but everything was running perfectly till just a couple of minutes ago watching netflix and working on Dreamweaver my macbook just shutdown. I had to Turn it back on and in the first try it shutdown immediatelly again, then i tried for second time and as soon as i got back into my account a bunch of programs start sending erros as my clock was set to a different date. My battery seems to be fine, i even check the report in the system preferences, it had 50% of battery and was plugged in so i am guessing that is not the problem.

I had to have my motherboard replaced last year as my macbook its a 15 inch Mid 2010 so i took it to Mac Store.. they didnt charge me for anything as it is a problem that Apple acknowledge the problem was in their side. I am just hoping i dont have to deal with this again.

My Macbook Pro 15" (late 2007) shuts down unexpectedly

I have started having this problem intermittently over the past month, and it has gotten worse over the past two days.
I am using my Macbook Pro normally (watching Youtube videos or online streams primarily), and it will suddenly either go to sleep or shut down entirely. If it goes to sleep, I can press enter and it will wake up briefly before going back to sleep about 3 seconds later, until eventually it will just shut down on its own. If it shuts down completely, I can press the power button to start it back up, but it will shut down again before even reaching the login screen. I tried going into bootcamp, but it shut down before I could select the Windows partition.
The only thing that has worked so far is resetting the SMC by holding Shift+ctrl+alt+power button for a few seconds while it is off. That lets me start it up for a while, but if I ever start using it for something a bit more demanding (again, Youtube or video streams, for example), it will shut down after probably about 30 min. of use.
I just got back from the Apple store today to get my power adapter and my battery replaced. The power adapter cable connection was exposed, and the computer had been saying to service the battery for a couple of years now. After replacing those, the service battery message went away, but it just started shutting down again. The Apple store MRI diagnostics only showed the battery problem.
One other piece of info is that I hear a click from the left side of the laptop before it shuts down (can't tell if left front or left back).

Click More Info, then select Serial-ATA in the Hardware section of System Profiler.
Select the DVD entry, and inspect the Revision field in the window below.
On an iMac, if you see Revision: KA15 or 2AHG, your iMac needs this update. If the update has been successfully applied to an iMac, the field will be KA16 or 2AHH.

Why is my Macbook Pro suddenly and constantly shutting down/crashing on me and giving me a blacked out or blued out screen with lines? Seems like a total system failure is happening?

Macbook Pro- shortly after upgrading to free software upgrade to Mavericks- 10.9.5-
has suddenly been freezing up, but went more directly to 'shutting down,' CRASHING on its own. Most of the time, if I'm even able to successfully get the laptop turned back on, it only stays up/on for a few moments before repeating the failure. The failure is often accompanied with the monitor going 'blank,' or most typically either 'blacking out,' or going blue/green or grey screen with lines or grids all over the monitor. All Desktop visibility, functions or applications in process disappears. This has caused repetetive 'forced shut downs,' which I never usually do, unless prompted to because I have no choice like this.... Or as I said, the computer itself will just shut down and turn off by itself.... Can anyone tell me what this issue is, and I'm pretty sure other Mac users have seen this exact thing I'm describing happening on their laptops, with their systems or on their monitors. Someone please explain or point me in the right direction... as naturally my laptop just went out of warranty as well.... And I don't know if this means the entire system is basically corrupted, dying/dead... and or if it is a monitor issue, a hardware issue, software issue or if there is anything that can be done to restore, repair it, etc.? Also another thing I have noticed ever since getting this laptop- (few years old now...) is that it runs VERY HOT... has in fact burned my lap /skin many times... and seems like the fan or internal operating systems/functions are also perhaps not functioning properly. What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.

Macbook pro restarts instead of shutting down. Just picked up from genius bar!

Hello, I've just picked up my macbook pro from the genius bar, I had the airport card and dvd drive replaced and when I got home i noticed that when i press shut down the laptop restarts..any thoughts? Thanks in advance

That is certainly frustrating, take it in and find another issue. Have you tried an SMC reset to see if that helps?
If that doesn't work, I would take it back and have them see what they did wrong, if they did anything wrong, becasue it should be working right after service.

MacBook Pro freezes after clicking 'Shut Down' and won't remember 9600M GT

After choosing 'Shut Down' from the Apple menu my MacBook Pro (1998, 5,1 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo) freezes and the Grey Screen of Death appears.
Strangely this only happens when I'm using the lower-power GeForce 9400M graphics card. When I use the high-performance NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics card my MacBook Pro wil shut down normally.

After installing Safari 5 my MacBook didn't boot, and I had to zap the PRAM to get the system booting again. Since then my system won't save the 9600M GT setting in the Energy Saving panel. I can logout from the 9600M and login to the 9600M GT, but after a reboot it switches back to the 9600M card.
Today I did a combo update to Mac OS X 10.6.4, but all the problems still occur. Also I did maintenance tasks with 'Cocktail' and 'Maintenance', but that didn't help either.
Also sometimes after choosing the GeForce 9600M GT graphics card, OS X logs out and hangs in the blue screen instead of displaying the login screen.
I hope someone can help me out with this!

Unfortunately the problem reoccured, alltought less. The last weeks my MacBook froze two times.

Macbook Pro i5 2.4Ghz shutting down due to overheating

I recently upgraded my 5yr old Macbook Core Duo to a nice, shiny new Macbook Pro i5 2.Ghz. I'm absolutely in love with it in every way possible except for one issue I'm having:
When I play Company of Heroes on Windows 7, I've had the Macbook shut down three times so far. After the first time, I felt the area just above the F1 / F2 keys and it was extremely hot to touch. I downloaded CoreTemp and Hardware Monitor to test for temperatures and discovered the Macbook is set to auto-shutdown once CPU temperatures reach 105C.
Is this normal? I've had the Macbook for four days now and wondering if this is a common problem. I've since gone out and bought a Coolermaster NotePal U2 notebook cooler, but I am a little reluctant to do any heavy gaming on this now.
Should I take this in to an Apple Service Center to be checked?
Just to clarify, in an airconditioned room with ambient temps of 24.5C, using the Coolermaster stand, the Macbook is idling with temps of:
CPU #0 53C
CPU #1 57C
Low 50C
High 97C (during Company of Heroes 5 mins ago)

Hardware Monitor had them running at 5517 rpm or something close to that. Perhaps Windows 7 has less effective power / fan management than Snow Leopard, I don't know. I've been wanting to try out a game from Steam for OSX so I may post back with more results.
What I'm worried about is the fact that it is shutting down at all. Safety mechanism or not, I would rather my computer not shut itself down while I'm in the middle of doing something.
Just on a side note, I found that sliding the Macbook down off the rubber pads on the Coolermaster stand so that the bottom vent is directly over the fans of the stand dropped the idle temps in OSX to 36C. Pretty impressive. If the Macbook is placed as it is shown in the instruction card (on the rubber pads) the idle temp goes up to 41C.

My MacBook Pro 15" won't shut down properly.

I am in search of help cause no one seems to know what the problem is. I have a late 2008 unibody 2.4ghz 15" MacBook pro. everything works smoothly and fine the computer runs superb, but when I go to shut it down I get a gray screen and a pinwheel thing and it just keeps spinning. Ive left it doing this for about 8 hours so I know it's not an issue with time. I can only get it to shut down when i hold the power button which I don't like doing. Everything else is in full working order any suggestions?

Sounds like you might need a SMC reset.
I would also try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

Hi, I'm having similar problem. I just got a Lacie ext drive to back up my photos and vids and now my laptop wont shut down or go to sleep properly. May or may not be related to Lacie. Could just be a coincidence.
I first noticed problem when I closed it to go to sleep and the apple logo kept flashing on and off.
When I opened the laptop the screen was flashing white then black, then white then black. Had to force shut
it down (opt, cmnd,power), had to hold it down a very long time before it responded. However, that didn't keep it shut down. It just started back up again. But at least it wasn't flashing.
Then when i tried to shut it down normally it would shut down, go black for a moment and then the Apple song would play and it would start back up again. It also won't stay asleep. It sleeps for two seconds when put into sleep mode then snaps awake.
strange problem... Very annoying. Next option is to unplug and let battery run out.

Why Does My MacBook Pro Keep forcing a shut down?

Whenever I shut down my macbook pro MANUALLY it waits a little and then brings up the "you must restart your computer" screen (the one in diff languages). How do I stop this? Is this hurting my computer?
I have 2 external hardrrives (one FW), an Mbox, and mobile mouse connected at all times.

Backing up should not be a problem. Has your computer had a knock recently? I'm just wondering if a RAM module may be slightly unseated. You can google YouTube videos on resetting it, you also may need to to search these forums to reset PRAM and SMC.

my 2015 macbook pro 13 retina display (one week old) unexpectetly shut down and immediately restarted. This is the first time it did it. Should I be concerned?

Maybe. The best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. If you purchased your MBP from Apple (not a reseller) you have 14 days from the date of purchase to exchange it or get a refund.

MacBook Pro 2013 will not shut down without restarting.

I got a macbook pro a month ago and it will not shut down without pressing down on the power button. Using the normal Shut down options only restarts the computer. I have done all the disk utility repairs, installed new mountain lion, reset the PRAM several times, and ran software repair from doing the shutdown hold D. I also checked to see if the PRAM is good, and it is Ok in systems utilities. It will also restart when i have not touched the computer for 10 or so minutes and will go to locked user log in.
I really don't know what else to do. If you need more details let me know. Any advice?

I tried this and discovered something new. I noticed that if the computer is charging while shutdown, the computer will still restart. However, if the computer is charging and you shutdown, then unplug the charger, it will remain off. It will also resume normal shut down and sleep if you shut down while unplugged, now. An idea why it will still restard while plugged in though? If not i very much appreciate your help so far!

Macbook Pro will not fully shut down!

Recently my MacBook Pro will not shut down. It looks as if all programs close, the dock disappears, the desktop clears, and then there is the circle of dashes that comes on when the MacBook is turning on. The circle of dashes (I'm sure there's a better name for this!) just keeps going round and round. It will go forever. Eventually I hold down the power button to shut it down. My software is up to date. What's going on?

or if you have another mac with no problems stick that sucker in T mode with a firewier and go throw disk utility from there.
or if you go throw the installation disk dont fully install it as soon as you see the word utility on your tool bar. then hit repair disk.
