My macbook pro can't find my external drive after upgrading os

I have a macbook pro from 2009. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and now it won't read my external drive (Toshiba). I am able to find it in disk utility but I am not able to open it. The device works fine in other computers. I have all my pictures there. How can I fix this problem?

Have you tried following through the trouble shooting tips in this knowledge base article on Firewire?

I've just got the sims 3 island paradise and I've inserted the disc my macbook pro can't "find it". It asks me to insert the disc for me to be able to play when it's already in!? Why? Please help!!

Call AppleCare (1-1800-APL-CARE) and give then the serial number.  They will send you a new copy of the two disks for shippingand handling of $16 each (I think $16 each).

  • Macbook Pro can't find Wifi after closing

I moved house and got a new wifi provider. My Macbook Pro can't find it sometimes after I close my Macbook which forces me to restart for it to join the network automatically. SOMETIMES I get a popup window with networks that it picks up and SOMETIMES my network is listed and I can select that, but not all the time. Why cant my Macbook find my network sometimes? It can find everybody elses except mine!

Change your router channel.  Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router.  Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.
    System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
    Unlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock.  Highlight Airport.  Network Name-select your name.  Click on the Advanced button.  Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."  Click the OK button and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.

Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.

  • Can't find my downloaded movies after upgrade ipad2 iOS 5

After aan easy upgrade to ios5.1.1 I can not find my downloaded movies after upgrade ipad2 iOS 5.

You are looking in the videos app - correct?
If they are not in there - try this ....
Swipe to the right from your first home screen to get to the iPad Spotlight search. Type in the name of any of your movies in the field at the top. If a movie appears in the search - tap on it and it should hopefully start to play. Let it play for a minute or so - hit done - go back to videos app and see if all is OK and if the rest of your movies have appeared.
If they still do not show up - sync them back from iTunes on your computer.

  • Macbook Pro can't find my home wifi

    Mine is a MBP 2011.
    Your help is much appreciated!

    Hello, Sallyelainelee!
You may want to check the settings on your Router to make sure there isn't something in its configuration that's preventing the MacBook Pro from seeing it. If the MacBook Pro can connect to other WiFi networks OK, I would imagine that this would be the case.

  • Macbook PRO can't find ANY Wifi network - only at home

Hi, i have a very strange problem with my *Macbook Pro*. I have 3 apple computers at home and one pc. On all machines Wifi works fine, except my new alu Macbook Pro. Important note is, when im with my macbook on other place, office, caffe, *Wifi works fine. But when im at home, this macbook simply can't find ANY network, it's blind.* Interesting thing is, all other computers are several years old and WiFi works fine on them. My friend also bought a brand new macbook pro, and this machine also couldn't fine any network at my home, or in other case when it found networks, it couldn't connect and recieve error message "Connection timed out". I noticed there is new Wifi network in our range, is it possible that this network can cause "blindness" on new macbooks?

*I have to say, I'm really glad you are trying to help guys.*
Well, router is almost on default settings, SSID is brodcasted and i'm not filtering MAC adresses. I tried changed channels, diffrent types of security or no security, no luck.
Guys, maybe i wrote it wrong, but this MacBook can't see ANY network. Around me there are 4-6 other networks which I'm able to see from other machines. So *problem is, this Macbook can't seen ANY network - not just mine.* BUT when i'm with this Macbook in office for example, or any other location, Wifi works....
And one more important thing, this happened suddenly. I was able few months ago to find any WiFi around me with this Macbook. No changes to router, no changes to mac. Problem is somwhere in the middle...try to focus on this: why i'm not able to see any of those cca 6 networks around me. I really think it has to do something with distorted signal and Wifi card used in new macbooks. It's really sick, because all other machines works perfectly (MB 07, MBP 06, PC, iPhone 3g)
I found a log on the router, and it's happening all the time:

  • HT2518 Migration assistant can't find my external drive - I ran the disk utility on it and it checked out. What can I do - I am trying to transfer PC files to my new MacBook Pro. Thanks

    Hi,
Wonder if someone has a suggestion for getting Migration assistant to recognize my external drive so that I can transfer some PC files from it to my MacBook Pro? I have been opening files in the drive with the Mac without a problem and I ran the diagnostics utility and the drive verified. Still, migration assistant spins and spins without finding anything. There's a lot of files and doing it manually with take days.
    Thanks!

Personally I have always used the manual method for moving my files over to a new iMac and never use Migration Assistant.
Go to the Apple drop down menu and select Force Quit.. and if Migration Assistant has failed, force quit it and try re-launching it again from your Applications Utility folder.

  • Year 09 macbook pro can't find HDD!

    2009 Macbook Pro
M4 128 SSD Work fine before.
Suddenly happend, system not responding. hold power button to turn OFF, then ON again can't find HDD, suspect is SSD HDD problem try plug it on other computer, see all data still there, do HDD verify with out problem. put back macbook original WD HDD, got same problem can't find WD HDD.
Then try reset SMC shift+control+option+power  no help
following try reset PRAM option+command+R+P + ON  no help
what should i do next. any one got same problem with me?
    please advise
    Thanks

it's the cable that goes from your hard drive to your logicboard....those cables have a high failure rate without warning....
to confirm that it's your cable and not your drive, install your drive in an external usb enclosure and if you can boot your macbook when your drive is connected via usb, then it's your sata cable...

  • Macbook Pro can't find my Mac OS partition

    Hello,
My Macbook Pro recently received a software update. When I restarted it, it could not boot from my Mac OS partition. I unmounted and remounted the OS section...same issue.
When I tried to reinstall Mac OS to the partition, it could find the Mac OS partition, but the installation would not complete due to some sort of error. I repaired the partition, and got a message that everything looked OK, but trying to reinstall the OS again resulted in another failed message.
It will still not find the Mac OS partition as a bootable drive, but my Windows partition is fine.. I'm so confused as to what the issue is here, so hopefully someone can help me.
    Thank you!

Hold the option key down while booting, see if OS X appears and select it to boot from, then reset the StartupDisk in System Preferences again.
If that doesn't work, I suspect a hosed GUID partiton table, backup what you can out of Windows to a external drive and disconnect.
Next read this to recover data out of your OS X parittion if you don't have a backup
