My MacBook Pro Can't Login to iMessage. What seems to be the problem?
Hi!
I'm having trouble signing in with iMessage using my Macbook Pro.
I'm using:
Software OS X 10.8.2 (12C60
13-inch, Early 2011
I know I have to sign in using my Apple ID, but everytime I do, it keeps asking for my password. My password is consistent with my other devices, but whenever I enter it here, it gets an error.
Can you help me please?
Thanks!
Most of the sites you mentioned will not let you block ALL their cookies and still log you in.
You could also be having a certificates problem, but I am no expert at those issues.

my macbook pro is crashing any clues on how to track down the problem?
I'm running OS X 10.9.5 on a Late 2008 Macbook Pro... 8GB of memory... I've swapped the original drive for an SSD.
here is a problem report on one of the crashes... they always look just like this:

Uninstall them and then reinstall in a systematic manner and see if the MBP crashes again. If and when it does, then that is the troublemaker.

When i open my itunes store, it says secure link to itunes failed and it doesnt load up, what seems to be the problem here? appreciate all the help i can get, thanks!
Yes, provided all the media is inside the iTunes Media folder, which is in turn inside the main iTunes folder (which is the standard arrangement) you should be able to move the iTunes folder from <User's Music> to any other path and shift-start-Tunes (option-start-iTunes on a Mac) to reconnect to it.
If the media folder has split out to another drive in the past, or media is stored outside of the iTunes Media folder, then things get a bit more complicated. I can go into details should it be necessary.

A few days ago my MacBook Pro froze and I had to force it to shut down. The next time (and all subsequent times) I've turned on my computer to login, as the username is shows (My name's) MacBook Pro (2). The (2) is new... what does it mean? Is there a problem with my computer? How do I fix it?
I think it's a problem with 10.5. My MBP did that occasionally after connecting to our home network after using the MBP on other networks. Since upgrading to 10.6, I've not seen it recur.
There is one thing that helped me before upgrading the OS. Are you using the wireless feature? If so, do System Preferences > Network and select the Airport card from the left pane. Then click the "Advanced...." button. The first tab in the resulting window should be "Airport." Look at the "Preferred Networks" pane.
It's likely cluttered with a lot of old networks from travels and form otherwise using the computer in cafes, etc. Delete any networks you do not use at least weekly. For example: leave your home network, the one at work, and the one for your favorite coffee shop and get rid of the others. To keep new acquisitions from building up, uncheck "Remember networks this computer has joined," or simply remember to clean out networks occasionally.
This does not affect your ability to join new networks later. -
Okay basically my MacBook Pro won't turn on. It has a spinning loading sign and a bar that won't complete at the bottom. Rang apple said take it into the apple shop and they will try target disk. What is that exactly and what are the chances my photos and files can be recovered. I would go to the shop but I'm on vacation. Help would be appreciated thanks.
This defines Target Disk Mode:
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10725
Though not guaranteed, the chances are good that the data can be recovered.

After last maverick update macbook pro can't be shut down anymore - only by using the power button
Hello!
I hope that someone can help: after the last Maverick update I can't shut down the computer anymore - or restart. I need to use the power button. Furthermore several apps don't close when they are supposed to be closed - I always have to check with Force Quit. I could live with that, but not being able to shut down or restart the Mac is more than tiresome. Can anybody help? These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -
On Mountain Lion :
It happens to turn of my monitor in different situations. Sometimes i believe i have my graphic video broken ! In my town i don't have Apple doctors so i dont risk to go to a service non authorized from apple !
For example there was a day when it turns off when a simply pinch with thumb and 3 fingers for launchbad ...and the opperating sistem it should be restart from power button ! That was when i had Mountain lion 10.7.5 update
Other situation was with photoshop cs6, cs5, cs4 30 days trial versions ...i couldn't buy any versions so i decided to test a earlier versions that can match with my sistem requirements. In all of this three situations my display had turned off after opening a image or photo or 3d graphics in photoshop...anyway sadness.
Other situation : One day i was simply relaxing surfing facebook and ...than i've just simply open an advertising link ...and on that page i was waiting to load a video that used another player than flash player of youtube. Even two seconds didn't stayed open and trust me it turned off my display once again !
After Mountain Lion :
I told my story to to someone who holds an MacBook Pro i5 etc. and he told me to test the new mavericks maybe it's something broken in my operating system.... and believe me after 2 days of happiness with OS X MAVERICKS , last night my computer restarted because of a problem, and 2 hours ago again....why ? i don't know ! Maybe Video RAM or maybe Memory RAM or Maybe simple conflicts between Trial Photoshop and OS X or maybe my macbook it's 2 old...or i don't know ....for how much i used this mac it should run as an mustang ! MacBook Pro i7 Mid 2010 HDD 500 , 4 GB of DDR 3 , Intel built in Graphic 288 and an NVIDIA GE FORCE 512 , 15 inch display monitor , 283 real cicle counts ( my mac was used as an iphone while charging and using battery) ...i don't know what to do ! Please help !
The Operating System shoes me everytime this error !

Thunderbolt Bus:Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
Good luck,

I have three APPLE products however my frustration comes from the understanding that if I change information on a Contact in Address Book on my computer, when I sync my devices, the old information will come back to my Address Book Contact from my other devices! ONE DEVICE NEEDS TO BE THE BOSS! I think it's crazy that I have to manually correct change of address, email info, whatever changes for one contact, MANUALLY on all three devices so that the information is the same. I've deleted old email addresses from my computer, just to have that old email address reloaded from one of my other devices during a sync. Is there a solution for this?
I see what your problem is. You are physically connected the devices. It would be better if the information was in iCloud. Then they all would sync instantly.

Had a similar problem with Macbook Pro3,1 on 10.5.8 - I chatted with Telus support. They remotely updated firmware on the Actiontec V1000H modem and it was resolved immediately.

Since I installed OSX Lion on my MacBook Pro, sometimes after login, the colored wheel keeps turning and I can't do anything. When I click on some icon or in the menu, no happens.
After a long time (more than 1 hour), I decide to switch off my Mac holding the button down and when I boot and log in again, it works normally.
Remark: When I logoff, I do not ask to keep my open programs for the next session.
I have a MacBook Pro 2010 with 4GB Ram.wrong reply

MacBook Pro Freezes in Login Screen
Hello,
I've encountered a strange error on my 08 MBP (Should not be hardware related). When my computer boots up and gets to the login screen, it simply stops. Mouse clicks and key hits (either onboard or USB devices) do not appear to register, as nothing happens when I do either of these, but I can however move the cursor around freely. Same result in safe boot.
I've checked hardware out via Hardware Test and such, and everything checks out fine. Verbose Boot just goes right on through without stopping. I've connected the computer as a FW drive and pulled the system logs, where I get the following:

Yesterday, I did install MathType. Could this be causing the problem, which I assume is being cause by a font error? If so, how does a font prevent me from using my computer? I would like to resolve this without needing to reinstall OS, as I just did that 7 days ago due to HD failure, which I am still working on recovering preferences, etc. from.
Help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Then I would mount the hard drive and delete caches in /Library/Caches and /System/Library/Caches and probably caches in /private/var/db/dyld
If your not sure use these commands, but be careful make sure your in the correct directory by running ls to list the contents or pwd to see what directory your in. Running rm -rf will force deletion of everything in that directory using * :
cd /Library/Caches
rm -rf *
cd /System/Library/Caches
rm -rf *
cd /private/var/db/dyld
rm -rf *
If all else fails you can always throw the Snow Leopard CD in and reinstall the OS. It shouldn't hurt your files any in your profile. Snow Leopard is pretty much dummy proof when reinstalling.
Of use a third party utility like Disk Warrior or something to maybe fix an error. Could try Tech Tool Pro you get with Applecare as well, but I haven't used that in years. Not sure what it does now. -
My macbook pro can't "find" my disc (?!)
I've just got the sims 3 island paradise and I've inserted the disc my macbook pro can't "find it". It asks me to insert the disc for me to be able to play when it's already in!? Why? Please help!!
Call AppleCare (1-1800-APL-CARE) and give then the serial number. They will send you a new copy of the two disks for shippingand handling of $16 each (I think $16 each).

Macbook Pro can't find my home wifi
I just got my battery replaced.. All my data disappeared. The worst thing is, I can't find my home wifi network but my neighbour wifi network is available. Pls help me fix this.
Mine is a MBP 2011.
Your help is much appreciated!Hello, Sallyelainelee!
You may want to check the settings on your Router to make sure there isn't something in its configuration that's preventing the MacBook Pro from seeing it. If the MacBook Pro can connect to other WiFi networks OK, I would imagine that this would be the case.

My Macbook Pro can't detect or read my CDFS file system external HDD
Open Disk Utility and see if the USB drives show in there. If they don't then it is a USB port or bus problem. If they do show in disk utility are they formatted in either Mac extended or a Windows format?

MacBook Pro can't find AirPort Express base station
My friend gave me an AirPort Express and I've set it up as a base station before. But the other day it was having problems and I reset it. Since then I have not been able to set up a base station. When I try to set up a new base station through the AirPort Setup Assistant I get the message "The AirPort Setup Assistant was unable to find your base station." I have tried soft resets, hard resets, and even factory resets, but I can't get the base station set up. Any suggestions?
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)I face a similar problem - the default name of the Airport Express is shown, Internet-Access works, but no way to administrate the Station - it is "not found", although it displays the name of it before. Frustration!
