do not use that charger AT ALL. It could cause a fire. Bring it to your local Apple store or AASP. They may give you a free replacement, but you need to bring both the charger and the mac.

i have already swapped my macbook pro charger out twice, as after 2 months they tend to stop working, and the problem is the little place where the wire meets the magnetic connector. i know that bending it ruins its durability and life, so i tried to not do that. i thought i did it pretty successfully, until my first charger burnt out after it got extremely hot. it would stop charging for periods at a time, and there were places in the wire, specifically where it met the power brick and connector, where you could see right to the copper/ whatever the **** material it is because it got so hot that it melted the plastic. the apple store has replaced it twice, and i am about to go in for the 3RD charger. does anyone have a recommendation on something that would hold the wire still inbetween the connector and full wire? and who else has had this problem? there isnt a problem with the mbp, its just the connectors suck as5 and blow out.

My connector-cable junction has always been slightly twisted. It's a more complex curve than just a twist, but wasn't perfect from the factory for sure.
The plastic jacket has now just torn this week and there's braided shielding and lots of unsavory bits showing.
Oh, and it started to singe a cushion it was touching. It was starting to burn.
Very antithetical to the "It just works" vibe.

Seems like this particular Achilles heel didn't get much field testing before it was unleashed.
Wasn't the Mag-Safe connector supposed to put an end to the whole problem of a $3,000 laptop being felled by a $1.79 connector/jacket on the AC adapter?
I'm on batteries four and five as of this writing, so the topic of power management and the MBP is getting to be a rather sore subject.
Will try to swap it out at work or might have to belly up to the Genius Bar.

Macbook Pro charger burned- help? (Pics)
My Macbook Pro charger has been acting weird the past few days: not charging, getting really hot, etc. I went to charge my computer today only to find that the coating over the wires was burned and melted!
I charged my computer last night while watching a movie and unplugged it before going to sleep. I did not use the charger today at all so it must have happened last night?
I do not leave it plugged in without my computer attached.
I have a 2010 Macbook Pro 13".
Has this happened to anyone else before? If so, did Apple replace it? Could this have started a fire??
Thanks, feel free to ask any questions if you need more infoI guess - welcome to the club Just had mine burned - with smoke and smell. Good - I was working at home and I have an Apple Store nearby. Bad - $89+tx for the charger. Whatever was the actual reason - this must not happen. This thing can burn the house. Needless to mention that this specific charger - I was keeping it always at home and never wrapped the wire around it. Never in my life anything like this happened to any power adapter.

Macbook pro charger Burn and exposed wire
So my charger for my macbook pro 2012 stop worked and it has a expose/ frayed wire. I also saw a it a dark brown spot on it. Im still under applecare, so would they replace it under applecare. It is also on the side that plugs into the wall and this is just happen over night. One day it was fine the next stopped.

yes, as long as they deem it as a manfacturing flaw. in order to get a new charger, you need to bring both the changer and the mac to apple so they can process the warranty claim. -
Does my macbook pro charge with the cover closed?
I just noticed that the battery does not charge to full when the cover is closed.. I always thought that it did.

MacBook Pro Charger not working, end of cord before the magnet part got detached from it.
for past an hour, my MacBook Pro charger stopped working so took the charger off and tried to fix it a bit by fixing the corn and straightening it or something.. Suddenly, the end of the cord, just before the magnet part, got detached from the magnet part with the pins and all.
i Tried to attach it back, and even if it did enter, I don't think it would continue to charge..
Is there anyway to fix this? Or do I have to get a new charger (which has to be my last resort, because I don't want to have to repair it by removing parts etc etc, or really pay money)LeoSayOh wrote:

I tried to update the software of my iphone 3gs while charging with my Macbook Pro. While the phone was restarting after installation, in the setting up my phone menu, it stops midway with a message in itunes on the laptop that there is no simcard.
Then put a SIM in. You cannot activate an iPhone without a compatible Sim.
If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken the update restore the lock. -
I have a Macbook 2007/08 model and the charger has decided to pack in. I have also recently purchased a Macbook Pro 2013 model and would like to know if there is an adaptor available that I can use on my Macbook Pro charger to charge the Macbook.

ThanksIn as much as we here are not the store the best thing to do is bring it back and have them give you a new one. You should be most certainly covered under warranty. (As long as your dog didn't eat it).

Macbook Pro Melted Its Own Casing - Expert eyes needed on this photo please of my macbook pro
This is a 2008 15" Macbook Pro.
At the genius bar I pointed out that the computer was so hot I could barely hold it, so hot the computer had warped it's own plastic casing where it connects to the power source.
So the genius guy took it in the back, opened it up, diagnosed a fried logic board and said "For $310 we'll fix up anything in the computer, you'll get it back good as new." In 2010 the logic board also fried and was replaced, and the heat cooling system was then replaced - looks like the same issue all over again.
So I took it home to get the data off the hard drive, but when I brought it back a few days ago, the new 'genius' made a different diagnosis.
Without barely looking at it, without taking it in the back, and without listening to or believing anything I told him, the Genius Bar are calling this impact damage - overriding the previous genius's assessment.
How can the perfectly symmetrical ripple wave in the plastic which goes top to bottom through a half inch of plastic be created by impact damage? And that the plastic piece below is not warped would mean I would have had to have removed the bottom piece of the computer, dropped it, then put it back on, in order for it to not be warped like its top half.
Are there any expert eyes out there who have an opinion on this keeping in mind the symptoms?
Additionally when the computer was its hottest, the trackpad would not click. The plastic must have expanded from the heat. So it would click, but only if I pressed really really hard. Doing this one day the plastic on the trackpad actually shattered from clicking it. But the shattering must have removed the surface pressure from the expanded plastic and therefore the trackpad became fully functional again in its shattered state and that's how I've been using it for quite some time.
I really appreciate any expert support from the community here if you disagree with the 2nd geniuses because I am complaining through official channels. I do not want to pay extra for damage the computer did to itself. Especially when this is the 2nd time the logic board fried on this computer.
I am someone who has owned apple's first everything since the 80's, and have worked on two Apple commercials myself. I'm currently typing this post from a PC... Does Apple want to satisfy its customers anymore or what?
I never did get a feeback solicitation emailed about this appointment either, I wonder why.

The Beverly Center apple store handled this 1000% better than the 3rd Street Promenade Store did - just got back the Macbook Pro, entirely repaired for $310, just like the 1st genius as 3rd Street Promenade told me would/should happen, overruling the 2nd set of geniuses Adrian, Phillipe and Matt.
I tried the 866 customer support # at apple to tell them about my unpleasant experience with 3rd Street Apple, and was routed around in circles being on hold for 12 minutes at a time - got nowhere. They told me I could give feedback at apple.com/feeback - but this site offers nowhere to plug in unpleasant experiences with the genius bar - only allow one to complain about equipment. So despite all the phone calls I've made, my experience has gone unheard by apple.
Though I've twice paid $300 to have the fried logic board replaced on this computer, I am asking apple to reverse the charges due to the class action and known issue with the NVIDIA graphics card on these models.
Not only did they replace the casing (which was melted), they replaced the battery which was leaking and had expanded, replaced the fried logic board, and the fried CD player. Additonally, when using this computer before, I periodically felt little shocks to my wrists where my skin contacted the edge of the casing. And the computer was so hot I couldn't hold it. If these aren't heat/power issues, I don't know what are. -
MacBook Pro Charger - Intermittantly Stops Working

I have had my macbook pro now for just over a year and unlucky for me im 20 days out of my 1 year warrenty and now not entitle to upgrade to apple care because of this when i phoned techincal support
The macbook pro charger is working intermittantly so it isnt completely dead.
if i wiggle it around or sit the cables just right it will work but it isnt working 1005 off the time like it used to.
I have a 2010 macbook pro with the L shape charger. I have manager to get another old style T shape charger off my friend which works perfectly with my macbook pro but will this harm my battery life because im using an "older" charger? but its brand new. also do you think its worth going into my local apple store in milton keynes to see if they can help me at all? as my gripe is you pay £1000 for a laptop and one year on the charger brakes. And i do look after my equipment. Its not like i throw it about or mistreat it.
I think it could of happened early if i used it more.
Is this a common fault?

DanielIf you have bought AppleCare Extended Warranty, MBP is in warranty for 3years
from the date of purchase.
Best thing to do, is to take the MBP to the Apple store for evaluation and possible repair / replacement.
