My Macbook pro didn't come with any restore disks, How can I make some?

I was just curious, Macs and Macbooks used to include restore disks. My new Macbook Pro did not come with any so how do I create a set?

Though these instructions are for Mt. Lion, they will work for Mavericks as well.  Making one one of these will free you from depending upon Apple servers if the need should arise.

if you're running Snow Leopard - there there will be no recovery partition - only Lion and Mountain Lion has that.
did you buy your Macbook used?
you can call Apple to order the original install DVD for your Macbook or you can order Snow Leopard for $20.

If you just bought it and it came with Lion then you don't get a DVD. Instead what they have done is created a Recovery Partition on the drive that serves the same function.

  • Macbook Pro didn't come with Installation disk

Hello. My 13inch Macbook pro just arrived today. It's Mac OS X Lion 10.7. After powering it up my first order of buisness was to install windows 7 through bootcamp. Then I made the discovery that this Macbook didn't come with an installation disk which I find damned odd. I checked the box and the little notebook holders, and there's no disk. This thing isn't even a day out of the box, so should I call apple and see if they'll send me one or is there something I'm missing?

    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

  • My MacBook Pro didn't come with Pages while my previous MacBook did...is that normal?

I bought a MacBook Pro a little over a year ago and it didn't come with Pages. I thought this was normal but my MacBook which I had a couple years ago previously did come with Pages. Are all laptops supposed to come with Pages automatically? My MacBook Pro did come with Keynote which I thought was strange and random....any thoughts? If the MacBook WAS supposed to come with Pages, is there any way for me to get it now or is it too late? Thank you!

    No.
iWork was never bundled with a Mac.It was an optional buy.
Now you can download iWork free from App store if you buy a new Mac.
    Best.

  • My macbook pro didn't come with iChat. What do I do?!

I just set up my new macbook pro and I've been searching every place I can think of for iChat and I can't find it anywhere. Is this a mistake? Is "Messages" the new iChat? I'm really confused. How do I get my iChat?! Can I download it?

Yup, iChat is now part of Messages. You can add your iChat logins to Messages if they aren't already there, and iChat also handles iMessages and other message protocols. It's sort of an all-in-one solution now.

  • I bought an Apple Airport Extreme used and it did not come with any software disks. how would make it work without the software disk?

Bought an Apple Airport Extreme used and it did not come with any discs. Do i need any discs? or is there another way to setup this airport without using a software disc?

You can download the setup manual and software that you need.
Look on the bottom of the AirPort Extreme for the Model Number.  It's A.......  something.
Post back with the model number and the exact operating system you are running on your Mac or PC.

  • MacBook Pro Didn't come with Mac OS X Restore CD

I recently bought a MacBook Pro and I never found a Mac OS X Restore CD anyone else find also not have a CD? Also does anyone know if you can get another CD for free if you didnt recieve one?

Yes. Insert the Installer DVD and boot from it by restarting the computer and after the chime press and hold down the "C" key until the computer boots from the DVD. After you select your language proceed to the screen where you select the destination device. Click once on the hard drive icon, then click on the Customize button. Select the Erase and Install option, then click on OK to return to the main installer. Proceed with the installation. Once OS X has been installed you can then use the Software Install DVD to restore all the rest of the software as it came from the factory.

The first thing to do is calm down, and avoid listening to voices that only quote doom and gloom.
And the second thing to do is recognize you have no catastrophic failure, nor any current software or harware issues at all, so you can calmly learn what there is to learn on this forum.
Several on this site have information you can use because they have lived through disasters (both theirs and others').  "ds store" is one such voice.  He (she?) services Macs, and has worked through the transition to Lion.  dsstore has also helped several uninstall Lion and go back to Snow Leopard -- not that I am saying you should or have *ANY* reason to, but dsstore has extensive experience helping others.
The first part of any recovery of any Mac is backups.  Lion, as I have learned from reading discussions, makes a "recovery partition" on the internal system disk.  But the risk you run of relying on that "recovery partition" is that if the disk dies, you have lost recovery.
I will not cover the details of full backup strategies, as dsstore/eww/tjk/Csound1 can give you excrutiating detail to help you with that.
But with the correct backup, disaster recovery is a simple set up "install new hard disk, clone from the bootable backup" ... two simple steps.  Again, such details I will leave to others.
As to some applications not supported under Lion, there is a reason.
Several programs were compiled for a chipset that is no longer made (PowerPC or PPC).  The code itself is not directly runnable in Intel systems, so a transition "support system" was maintained, called "Rosetta".  Rosetta is not supported in Lion anymore.  Some applications are not runnable under Lion.  Upgrading the applications seems the only recourse.
Now I will cede the floor.

  • My 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch didn't come with an install disk?

I opened up my MacBook Pro today as a christmas present. All was going well, until I wanted to do Boot Camp. Well, since the Windows support software download always starts to hang, (My internet isn't slow) I can't get the drivers installed. Windows is installed perfectly, however. I'm just really curious on why it didn't come with an Install disk.

If you're completely computer savvy, here you go:
    See this.
You should also make yourself a USB recovery assistant first.
