My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) keeps freezing, the fan becomes extremely loud and the laptop gets very hot, what can I do?
Hi there,
I would be grateful if any one could help me. I purchased my MacBook Pro 13 Inch in August 2011, it was the "Early 2011" version, which was shipped with Lion (I have now upgraded it to Mountain Lion last year).
Up until a few weeks ago, it was running fine. But recently my MacBook keeps freezing (A circular rainbow appears on the cursor), slowing down, the fan gets very loud and I often have to restart the whole machine. This usually happens when I'm running programs such as Safari, Preview or Microsoft Word
I only use my MacBook for university work so I only have Microsoft Office and iWork installed, nothing else. I've only used 19gb out of the 320gb available. I've also reseted my MacBook to its factory settings but that hasn't fixed the problem.
I've checked my AppleCare status and it says:
Repairs and Service Coverage: Active
Your product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under a custom agreement.
For more information about your coverage, please contact us.
Estimated Expiration Date: 24 August 2014
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to how I can resolve these problems, as it is stopping me from doing my work?
Many thanks.
Call Apple and make a appointment, backup your use data off the machine to a external drive.
Don't bother with TimeMachine if it asks, too long and likley be corrupted and unable to restore, just drag and drop your Users folder to the external drive.

Dear all,
I am attempting to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to my Sony LCD TV (KDL-46XBR6) via the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI. I have successfully connected the two devices and can select "SONY TV XV" in the sound preference pane. I can see and hear what I'd like, however, I can only monitor the sound in 2 channel stereo. I have my TV connected to a Sony 7.1 audio receiver via an optical cable and can monitor 7.1 sound via other sources (Blu-ray, broadcast, etc). When I go into the Audio Midi Setup utility, I am unable to configure my speakers to be anything but 2 channel stereo. I am given the options for "2ch-16bit", "2ch-20bit", "2ch-24bit" and "Encoded Digital Audio". When I select "Encoded Digital Audio", my output automatically changes to Built-in Output. Has anyone been able to successfully resolve this issue? Thanks for all your help!
GreggI have tested it with the Moshi (http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/moshi-mini-dp-to-hdmi-adapter-with-a udio-support) and Belkin (http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA342ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adap ter) adapters, both purchased from the Apple Store with no such luck. Have you or anyone else had success with any other third-party adapters?

GreggYou should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

Soundflower is a third-party system modification that includes a kernel extension, and therefore has the potential to cause kernel panics. That's all I know about it, because I never install such things myself. The only way to find out whether it's causing your problem is to test without it. -
My Macbook Pro (Early 2011) is freezing nearly everyday?
Hi
My Macbook Pro (Early 2011, purchased at launch) is freezing nearly everyday. This problem exists for a long time (Since purchase). Whenever I let my macbook turned on, it freezes after some time. (Quite often in the night). I do not have any hardware hungry applications running. The freezes occure at normal usage. The only way to solve the freez is a complete hardreset.
I do not have any idear why this problem occures. So, here is the copy of the console...
the freeze must be happened at 06:51

Hi,
My MacBook Pro 13 Inch early 2011 keeps randomly crashing, I have changed the RAM in the macbook from 2x2gb to 2x8gb if that helps? I have tried using "Apple Jack" to help identify the problem
Be careful with AppleJack as it does not repair permissions with Lion and is reportedly completely broken under Mountain Lion.
I would concur that Avast is involved in this issue and probably needs to be reinstalled or replaced by something less "intrusive". -
Macbook pro early 2011 keep crashing with no reason.
My macbook pro early2011 keep crashing with no reason. What can I do? Is this a sign of virus? It just started a few days ago.
Un-install Avast and CleanMyMac2.
Avast Un-install
You do not need to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.
CleanMyMac - Uninstall
CleanMyMac2 Un-install
After un-installing, run this program to make sure you got all the pieces.

Macbook pro (early 2011) takes multiple attempts to wake from sleep and turn on.
I've had a MPB since April 2011 and since I've gotten it I've had this problem. When I want to use the computer, whether from deep sleep or simply turning it on, it sounds like its beginning to turn on but then it makes this clicking noise and stops.
My computer does not wake up from sleep with the press of buttons like it should. I have to press the power button to get any sort of reaction, and as I press the power button multiple times the problem occurs.
It does this multiple times in one setting, varying from once all the way to 10 or 15 times until it actually turns on. The thing is, it ALWAYS turns on eventually. I took it to the Apple Store while it was still in warranty (several times, actually) and they weren't able to find anything wrong. Honestly they thought I was making it up even when I had several people with me agree that they saw the problem happen. I left it at the Apple Store for repair and they did tests, reinstalled the software, but once I took it home the problem still remained. Because they didn't find anything and didn't seem adamant that anything was wrong, I just felt frustrated and left it, since the computer still functions fine otherwise. Now my computer is out of warranty but the problem is becoming more of a pest now that I'm in college. I do everything on it and I'm worried that one day it won't turn on. I took it to the Apple Store again and they told me they couldn't do anything for me now since warranty is out, despite the fact I took it to them expecting good service while it was in warranty and they did absolutely nothing!
I just need some answers. Whether a self fix or from Apple. I feel that Apple should help me solve this problem since they failed to do so before. I'm only 6 months out of warranty, too.
My computer has all the latest firmware and software, running on Lion Mac OS X 10.7.5BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps? -
Just had a stick of RAM and the CPU replaced by Apple for an unrelated issue, but now this has cropped up. A little searching indicated that the GPU became unsoldered, but I'm curios if anyone can shed some light on this issue.
Thanks.Did you do anything in particular to get it to boot up? If I could get mine to boot then I could work with it. I've got an external monitor that might connect, but if not, I should be able to share the screen from my Mac Mini. But I can't get it to boot.
Also, what time zone are you in? Since the same problem happened to us both on the same day, I wonder if something in the date is causing a failure in sleep/wake. I've had my fingers crossed that when tomorrow rolls around it will boot up again. Crazy, perhaps, we'll see. You give me hope. -

In console it says kernel: Previous Shutdown Cause: 3 and sometimes cause 5
Make sure you "quit" all open apps before shutting down your Mac.

You can also try running a hardware diagnostics routine (see here: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57352461-263/how-to-invoke-and-interpret-th e-apple-hardware-tests/) to test for any faulty hardware components that could be contributing to the problem. Be sure to thoroughly test the RAM (check the box for the extended RAM test--this will take a while to complete).

MacBook Pro (Early 2011) Freeze - How to collect system logs?
Hello,
My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) keep freezes at all times and hard reboot is only the available solution at. I'm having this problem from day one and spoke to AppleCare couple of times, but unable to resolve! Is there anyway to collect system logs from MacBook Pro running OS X Lion 10.7.2 to show it to Genius people at local Store?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! How to run hardware diagnostics for an Intel Mac
Boot from your original OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run the extended tests for a minimum of two or three hours. If any error messages appear note them down as you will need to report them to the service tech when you take the computer in for repair.
Some "common" error indicators:
SNS - sensor error
MEM - memory error
HDD - hard disk drive error
MOT - fan error -
MacBook Pro (Early 2011) No Wifi Hardware Installed
Please help me! I'm confused.
My 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011) Keeps saying that No WIFI Hardware is installed.
My Mac has been running great until earlier this week. I turned it off one night before bed and then the next morning as I switched it on, it said there was no WIFI hardware installed. I launched recover mode which is when I figured my WIFI works in recovery mode just not in the Mac itself. I reinstalled a fresh copy of OS X Yosemite which worked for a day, but sure thing the next day I loaded the Mac and then there was the same issue. So I reinstalled OS X Yosemite... AGAIN!! this time I hit an error, Yosemite had deleting my recovery drive and unmounted my Macintosh HD but thats anther story to fix another time. Once I finally repaired my disk to install Yosemite my WIFI was working again... until I restarted my Mac and it went off and the error reappeared. Luckily Apple released OS X 10.10.2 so I plugged in the ethernet and installed it which has fixed my WIFI... for now, I'm to scared to restart my Mac. Does Anyone know what is going on? Thank you
Like I said when it gives the error (No WIFI Hardware installed) the wifi connects in recovery just not on my Mac OS. I'm currently using my Mac to submit this question and all seems fine so far.
Thanks again.Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite

I cannot install lion from mac appstore. i have a macbook pro early 2011 model with 10.6.8 and i keep getting a wierd error NSInternalInconsistencyException i have no idea what to do.
I changed my wireless broadband to a landline-base DSL wifi and it works like a charm. Sun was the culprit even you fiddle with its router and disable firewall, it won't work.
try changing yours too and let me know how it goes. -
Macbook pro early 2011 freezes, slow, weird fan noise + trackpad jumping around
Hi guys, see the Etrecheck report below. My 13' Macbook pro (early 2011) has been very slow for the last few months, the fan makes a weird blowing noise (several fellow students have looked around what the **** that noise was when it started doing it), and recently started freezing when opening iTunes, OpenOffice and even Firefox.
OH AND my trackpad has jumping around without me even touching it.
What do you guys think? What's the problem, what can I do? IF I take it in how much do you think it might cost?

Compilation freezing...
I'm porting some old software from Solaris 2.3 to Solaris 8 with the SUNWS 5.3 Compiler. For the most part, this has been going without problems - except for two files that for some reason freeze the compiler up - i.e., the compiler simply seems to g
