My MacBook Pro early-2013 OS X 10.8.4 is acting up.

My early-2013 10..8.4 OS g mac acting up. For example: I can't move the mouse for 2 seconds without it moving around the screen! It literally created a new folder when I wanted to open Google Chrome up! Now I'm typing but every now and then it deletes a word or 2. Right NOW I'm typing but it keeps switching apps. I'm on notepad for example: typing thing and then RANDOMLY takes me to Finder. I NEED HELP!!!

Excel is part of Microsoft Office, and you have to buy that, it is not included with your Mac.
But you could get OpenOffice, it's free and you can do just about everything Excel can do. See this:

  • Handoff Macbook pro early 2013

    Hi,
first I want to apologize my bad english.
    Ok, now my problem:
I have an Macbook Pro Retina Early 2013. So Handoff should work without Problems.
My installed OS X Version is Yosemite 10.10.
I have installed the Yosemite Beta ca. one month ago. (Don´t know if this can take effect.) Now I have the problem that I cannot work with Handoff. I have seen a lot of tutorials but all of them showed me points that I can not set in my mac. For an example, the Checkbox "Allow Handoff with..." in my Settings->General is not there. My Checkbox said "allow delivery". The point is, my system is in german:
Ok. The german word "Übergabe" could mean "hand-off", too. That is what the dictionary said. But all the Tutorials said, it should be called "Handoff zwischen diesem...". That was my first point.
The second point. I read in an other tutorial(http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/10/22/how-to-iphone-calls-os-x-yosemite/), I have to set up the checkbox „iPhone Cellular Calls“ in my FaceTime preferences. But I don´t have this point:
Ok. So that are the things that perplexes me.
    For more checks:
    - I have enabled bluetooth on all devices (iPhone and Mac). (I cannot link them, but as I understood, I don´t have to).
    - Both devices are in the same WiFi.
    - Handoff is activated at my iPhone and on my mac (assumed that the point I have told above is the right setting)
I don´t get update requests, so I think this system is up to date.
I hope you can help me with this.
    Regards
    Artur

    Hi,
    your answer helped me.
for all the other that stuck with that problem:
After I reinstalled my OS X I had the version 14A379b. Before the reinstall I had 14A388b. My App Store sucked at downloading the yosemite Installation so I recover my system from a time machine to 14A388b.
If you have 14A388b I had to do the following steps:
Download the yosemite installation from the App Store.
You will get the message that you have installed it yet. Ignore it, download anyway.
    install it
On your mac and your iphone:
    log out from icloud
    deactivate bluetooth
    deactivate handoff
    restart your device
    log in to icloud
    activate bluetooth
    activate handoff
    enjoy handoff
    That helped me.
    Thank you!!!
    Artur

  • Design flaw in Macbook Pro late 2013?

    Hi,
Looks like Macbook Pro late 2013 has a weakness, due to a design flaw. Let me explain:
My Macbook Pro late 2013 (13inch, Model: A1502) developed a dent (see attachment) and an Apple Store (Genius Bar) technician told me that this is a result of "excessive pressure" on the bottom case. He also mentioned that because the case is made of soft aluminium and it is only supported around the border (about where the screws are located), any "excessive" pressure in the middle may result into the aluminum case being damaged by the internal components; in this case  the damage appears to have been caused by an internal bracket.
There is no sign of the bottom case being pushed inwards, there hasn't been any accident and I haven't stepped, or sat on, or otherwise mistreated my laptop, so I very surprised! Most of the time, it's sitting flat on a desk and only carried insider a padded pouch, inside a laptop-grade (padded) backpack! As you'll notice in the photo (and I can provide more photos, if needed), there is absolutely no other sign of damage, the curves look perfect, and the back plate is flat.
This is just a cosmetic damage and replacing the bottom case is the obvious solution but I still need to better understand the circumstances; I need to understand what went wrong and, if possible, how to prevent this from happening in the future .
I visited iFix it web site and carefully looked at the internals of the laptop, here:
    https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Retina+Display+Late+2013+Tea rdown/18695
It looks like the bottom base is only supported around its border. The middle of the bottom case has no backing to support it. While Apple could have designed a support structure around the battery cells and over the motherboard (logic board) and the back case, there is no support structure at all. Hence, pressing on the back of the laptop uniformly (e.g. while in a loaded backpack) will probably result to the back case being pushed inwards and, while aluminium does have some degree of elasticity, it can get damaged when hitting on a sharp object, such as an internal bracket. Hence, I guess the Apple technician is right, this is what probably happened to my laptop and I think this may have happened only in my backpack. But, how “excessive” can the pressure be on a Macbook Pro inside a high-quality, padded backpack?
If there are other MBPr users who have experienced this problem under normal everyday use, i.e. not due to an accident, could you please let me know?
    I'd be grateful if Apple:
    * Looked into this and provided a workaround, e.g. a more durable bottom case.
    * Considered replacing our damaged cases for free.
    * Published some numbers, to inform prospective customers about the durability of the laptop's case, e.g. in N/cm^2
    * Took our experience into consideration when designing their new laptops.
    Kind regards.

" I need to understand what went wrong and, if possible, how to prevent this from happening in the future"
So what's underneath the area w/ the "blister"?
"It looks like the bottom base is only supported around its border. The middle of the bottom case has no backing to support it."
That's pretty much been the case w/ every MBP I've ever had apart. Nothing past 2012 however.
" While Apple could have designed a support structure around the battery cells and over the motherboard (logic board) and the back case, there is no support structure at all"
In earlier versions of the MBP there is a "separator" between two areas of the upper case but it doesn't supply any support to the bottom case.
So here's my take on this; Apple has made these MBPs thinner and thinner. In the MBPs I've taken apart 2008 - 2012. In the 2010 I have here the bottom case is very thick and judging by tapping on it is definitely tempered (or heat hardened or stress hardened). I don't have the proper caliper but the edge reads .044 Inch.
There have been other issues on these communities that relate to the thinness of the top or the bottom cases in these newer machines.
Never seen a newer machine but my feeling is judging by the issues seen around here is that the materials are much thinner and probably not as hardened or tempered.
" how “excessive” can the pressure be on a Macbook Pro inside a high-quality, padded backpack?"
To help prevent this from happening again and if this were my MBP I would use/make a hardened case just for the laptop. Say two sheets of 1/4" hardboard w/ a 1/4" separator of  high density foam. Wait I'm describing a high quality laptop case.
As Ogelthorpe says, backpacks are not the most delicate way of transporting a laptop. I've seen damage worse than this to laptops, iPads, iPhones, Kindles etc. Especially at the school where I was the main tech. I would say: "What happened to this?" and the kid would say: "I dunno it was just in my backpack".
I've watched backpacks fall from shelves, get stuck in lockers and get smashed into each other in the hallway.
I'm sure you're much more delicate w/ your MBP but as the saying goes ".... happenes!"

  • Macbook Pro early-2011 crashing/locking-up

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro (early-2011 model 15") has been locking up and crashing lately. It was recently upgraded to Mavericks OSX.This has happened only a handful of randomn times over the past two months. I don't think it has to do with the OS version because it did this a couple months ago as stated when I had Lion, and also ML. However, in the past 24 hours i have locked up around 5 times and crashed at 3 times.  I've attached the crash report below from the latest crash this morning. I use one usb port to connect to a Dell monitor using DisplayLink adapter, and the other usb port goes to a 4-port usb hub that has my wired keyboard, mouse, and phones that I test with plugged into. The mini displayport goes to another Dell monitor. Can anyone help me determine the issue? Does it look to you like the RAM has been corrupted and needs replacing perhaps? Or maybe it is this usb hub causing memory crashes from having so much stuff plugged into it? Log below:

    Hi Will-H,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  It sounds like more isolation might be needed to rule some things out.  I would recommend this article:

  • Windows 7 freezes on files copy operation on Macbook Pro 15" 2013 Late

    Hi,
I use Windows installed via BootCamp on my Macbook Pro 15" 2013 Late with 512GB SSD. I installed all Apple drivers, but my laptop freezes(all windows stop responding) on a copy a lot of small files from one folder to another. After 2-5 min windows start responding again. I use Windows 7 with all upgrades.
SSD works good in Mac OS.
Seems Apple SSD drives in not work correctly under Windows.
    Please help!

I have exactly the same Macbook Pro as yours but mine has the matte screen. I bought mine in September 2006 but it is classed by Apple as the 'early 2006' Macbook Pro because they released the 'late 2006' Macbook Pro in October 2006, a few weeks after I bought mine :@. As I said in my post, http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2307301&tstart=0 , Windows 7 is working fine on my Macbook Pro, so it should work on yours. Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro-mid 2013 Maximum RAM

Hello, i have a Macbook Pro-mid 2013 (13" inch-intel Core i5 2,5ghz-4go RAM) and i'd like to upgrade the RAM to the maximum possible.
I saw that officialy, the maximum is 8go but that it's possible to use 16go without problems.
Is there any risk to upgrade to 16go?
What brands would be the best choice?
    Thank you for your help.

You note two different machines, the MacBook Pro Mid-2012 and Mid-2013.  There is no Mid-2013 MBP, but the Early and Late 2013 models cannot be upgraded after sale.
The Mid-2012 can be upgraded to 16 GB but like all Macs, you need to use ram guaranteed for a Mac as they are very sensitive to the timing of the memory.  Buy from OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com

  • EXACTLY what cable(s) do I need to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution?

I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011 w/ Intel HD 3000/ 384Mb) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution. Specifically, what cable/connections do I need to display at this resolution? I cannot get the display to work using a "Thunderbolt to HDMI" or a "Thunderbolt to DVI" connector.  Note:  I used both older and newer (uni-directional) HDMI cables on the first config, and a Dual-link DVI cable on the second config.   Apple specs state this is possible ( support.apple.com/kb/SP619 ), but I am at a loss as to how this can be done.  Thanks in advance for the help!

You use a Mini DisplayPort to either HDMI or dual-link DVI adapter. If that component doesn't work, something's wrong with either the cable or something else in the connection.

  • 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011) doesn't detect display over mini DisplayPort HDMI adapter in Mountain Lion 10.8.2

    Hi to all.
I have a problem connecting external display (Dell U2311H) to my 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011).
I use Tecklink Mini DasplayPort to HDMI adapter (http://www.techlink.uk.com/products/wires_cables/wiresmedia/wiresmedia_media/wir esmedia_mini_displayport_plug_to_hdmi_plug), but since U2311H doesn't have HDMI input, I also use Manhattan DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (http://www.manhattan-products.com/en-US/products/8101-displayport-adapter).
    And nothing.
The display is not detected, no picture or even external monitor presence at all.
I even reset PRAM, and installed 10.8.2 Supplementary update.
I also plugged and unplugged all I could, with no luck.
As I can see on Apple discussion, it is a common problem with 2011 MacBook Pro's.
It seems like the problem is in Thundebolt port, it somehow does not work properly.
If anyone has solved such ploblem, please let me know.

In reply to my own post have to say appologies to Apple whose Thunderbold port I used to blame.
    Shame on me)
    So, what was my problem?
    Guess what?
Manhattan DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter !
The point is it's actually do only what it said to do, converts DP to HDMI.
But I for some reason thought it can be used vice versa, to be HDMI to DP converter))
    I was wrong.
I bought new one HDMI to DVI adapter and now I HAVE external display!
    Thunderbolt works like a charm.
    So I'm very satisfied now.

  • My Macbook Pro (early 2008) won't boot, then booted, now won't boot again.

    Hey all,
    Summary:
My GF's Macbook Pro (Early 2008, non-unibody I believe) "died" earlier this year without notice or a cause for why, then it worked months later, then it didn't again.
    Symptoms:
It stopped booting, with the only signs of life are:
The annoying boot sound that you hear right-away, like a winding sound. "Weeeeah woooo"
A fan turns on immediately after the sound.
The front light (on the open button) is solid.
The battery will light up and show how much juice is left.
The only thing to do from here is to hold down the power for 10 seconds.
Don't worry, my story gets more interesting...
Now, I had another computer and my GF didn't need her macbook seriously for a while, so I didn't research the problem or how to fix it, until last week.  Perusing the various help forums and communities, I came across the reset SMC suggestion, so I decided to try a few things on Apple's SMC reset page.
I tried a couple things, including taking the battery out, and LOW AND BEHOLD: IT CAME ON, like nothing happened!  The screen was fine, the performance was fine, it updated (to the new Safari and iTunes, as an example) fine, and it restarted fine multiple times.  One of the main reasons I wanted to get it working was to save some family pictures we had saved, so I started uploading the images to an image cloud site. I'm sending them at full-res so it takes a while and I go to sleep around 2 am so I'm not too late into the office in the morn.  When I wake up, I go to check the image upload progress and the laptop is Off. I figure it just went into standby after finishing, so I hit the power button...
And it doesn't boot again.  It's back to the same issue as before. I try doing what I did last time, then resetting the SMC, but nothing has worked this time.
Any ideas? It's out of warranty of course, which is why I'm here.
    Thanks in advance!

Since no one else is answering, I’ll jump in.
Your story is interesting indeed.  I’m not sure I can help you fix the Mac but it sounds like there is a reasonable chance of recovering the data.
I assume it came with installation disks.  Will it boot from them?  If so run Disk Utility from there and try to repair the system disk.
For the hardware problems on your Mac it is time to take it to Genius Bar at an Apple store for a free diagnosis and estimate of repairs.
    Genius reservation http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ .
It could be your disk failing but it sounds more like flakey electronics in the system.  Let’s assume is is the system board until a Genius tells you otherwise.  If so, you can simply put the working system disk in an external enclosure, mount that on your other Mac and copy the data.  Here is a source for the inexpensive hardware you would need:
    Toolkit: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/TOOLKITMHD/
    SATA enclosure: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/ES2.5BPU2W/
There are multiple directions to go from here.  Let me know what happens when you try theses first options.

  • MacBook Pro Early 2011 - Airplay Mirroring only sends audio to Apple TV 2nd Gen

Ok, I'm stumped by this one. I have a 15" MBP Early 2011 edition and an Apple TV 2nd Gen. Airplay Mirroring from my MBP to Apple TV only transmits the audio -- the MBP will resize the screen like it's connected to a 16:9 device, and Apple TV will show a black screen like it's about to pick up the video signal, but no video transmits. A couple of times, video started transmitting, but it was about 30 seconds delayed (?!) and extremely choppy. Both devices are connected wirelessly to a Linksys router with 5 GHz (wireless N) capabilities. The router has been configured to Apple's recommendations for Airplay Mirroring.
A little more about my MacBook Pro:
    Early 2011 Model ID: MacBookPro8,2
    OS: 10.8.2 Mountain Lion
    CPU: Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6490M, VRAM 256 MB Total
This problem is driving me crazy! Airplay works flawlessly between my iPhone 5 and Apple TV, but not with a much more powerful laptop. Also, I tried Mirroring from a friend's 13" MacBook Pro, and it did the same thing.
Any suggestions, tips, ideas, etc. to get this working is appreciated!

He has an Early-2011 MacBook Pro, which does meet the requirements. The issue is that it is running OS X 10.7.5 and needs to be upgraded to Mountain Lion to use mirroring.

  • Connecting my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to my Sony LCD TV (KDL-46XBR6) and listening to Multichannel surround sound.

    Dear all,
I am attempting to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to my Sony LCD TV (KDL-46XBR6) via the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI. I have successfully connected the two devices and can select "SONY TV XV" in the sound preference pane. I can see and hear what I'd like, however, I can only monitor the sound in 2 channel stereo. I have my TV connected to a Sony 7.1 audio receiver via an optical cable and can monitor 7.1 sound via other sources (Blu-ray, broadcast, etc). When I go into the Audio Midi Setup utility, I am unable to configure my speakers to be anything but 2 channel stereo. I am given the options for "2ch-16bit", "2ch-20bit", "2ch-24bit" and "Encoded Digital Audio". When I select "Encoded Digital Audio", my output automatically changes to Built-in Output. Has anyone been able to successfully resolve this issue? Thanks for all your help!

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • HT3235 Will generic DVI to VGA adapter work with Macbook Pro (Early 2008 Model)??

I have a 15" MacBook Pro (Early 2008 model).  I lost the Apple DVI to VGA adapter for use with my projector, and it appears this older model is no longer available.  Will a generic DVI/VGA adapter, from Best Buy for example, work?  I wasn't sure if there was anything specific to the Apple adapter?  I am supposed to give a lecture in 2 days and can't find my adapter!  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes it will, assuming that you do not have a display like the 30" Apple Cinema Display that requires dual-link DVI.
