My MacBook Pro Core Duo from 2006 shuts down randomly requiring frequent reboots to the point I had to abandon doing any project or anything on this MacBook Pro. Same thing occurs with the iMac dual core from 2007. MacBook battery replaced. Is it internal battery for both, new logic board required, bad hard drive, or bad RAM?
Help.Run an Apple Hardware Test using the original installation disk that has the AHT instructions on it.
Try SMC and PRAM resets:

It is possible that you may need a new PRAM battery.

MacBook Pro sometimes stays on after shut-down and drains the battery.
Sometimes my MacBook Pro stays on after I shut it down and it drains the battery until it dies. I return home to find it the clocks and everything have to be reset. It appears to be shut-down after I select that command, but on occasion it will remain on in a semi-on state and i need to force quit it w/ the power button. It usually shuts down ok, but this happens every once in a while and I have to continually double-check that it's off before leaving it. Otherwise, I will come back and the battery will be very warm and the machine is running, but not really on. Any ideas?
Problem solved by my own. But do not how :) magsafe again working and the laptop tooo

Previously when my macbook pro battery reaches 0%, the computer entered hibernation state, and when connecting the power adapter a progress bar appeared and appeared my content as it was when turned off.
Dede a while back when the battery is depleted macbook off, and when connecting the power adapter I have to press the power button and the machine starts again and it was kept open applications or files that were in use.You should not be completely draining your battery as normal use. I'm not sure if I'm following you correctly, but with a complete drain it is expected to have to hit the power button to activate the system.

Macbook Pro turns back on when shut down....
Hey there. So I have a Macbook Pro (obviously) and here is what has happened lately. When I shutdown the computer, it shuts down, but then instead does a restart and comes back on right away. Now, I am 100% sure that I am hitting Shut Down, not Restart. Any idea why this happens? Any idea how to fix it once and for all? Thanks so much!
I have the same problem, but mine doesn't start back up immediately. I shut it down at night, wake up to go to work with the computer still turned off, come back 8 hours later and it turned itself on. Unlike others in this forum who have reported similar troubles, this issue happens whether I close the lid or not.
I have only made 2 recent changes to the computer at the time it started occurring: started using a Bluetooth keyboard and installed Leopard. So today I shut off Bluetooth to test, and the same thing happened. If you have recently installed Leopard, our issues may be one in the same.
I'm going to try resetting the PRAM and SMC tonight, to see if the Leopard installation broke the settings on those 2 chips. I suggest that you try the same.

My MacBook Pro Snow Leopard will not shut down.
When I try to shut down my MacBook Pro it goes as far as the spinning wheel on the blue screen and will not complete the shutdown. I have to hold the power button to shut down completely.
Both disk and permission repair does not solve the problem.
Help please.I had the exact same problem, the only way for me to fix it is to delete everything off your mac, or backup your data and reinstall the OS, but just reinstalling the OS won't fix it, back up your data (if you want to keep it) and then erase everything off your mac then put your data back in. Hope it helps.

MacBook Pro won't Sleep or Shut Down
My MacBook Pro won't go to sleep or shut down.
Sleep
The behaviour is the same whether I press the power button and choose 'Sleep' or whether I choose 'Sleep' from the Apple menu. The computer stays awake, but it loses the ability to respond to Keyboard Shortcuts, such as those used for Expose, and can get stuck in some Apps. If I close the lid the computer stays awake but the screen blacks out. Re-openning the lid does not re-illuminate the screen so I have to force shut down and re-boot.
*Shut Down*
The behaviour is erratic. Sometimes the computer simply ignores me (although it does close the 'Are you sure you want to Shut Down now?' window), and sometimes it goes to the blue screen with the progress circle and hangs.
*What I've tried already*

MacBook Pro will not finish a shut-down.
I have a repeating problem. Starting with 10.5.5 on my 2.2 ghz MacBook Pro 15" (mid-2007) I began having big problems getting it to restart and to shut-down. I was getting ridiculous hangs.
I would find my machine in the morning with the fan still going and looking like it was shut down. I would hit the ON button and nothing would happen. So I had to hold down the ON button for a long time until a full manual shut-down occurred, and then I could restart my machine. This happened with most, but not all of my restarts, and just about all of my shut-downs.
Then I upgraded to a unibody MacBook Pro 15". I migrated my user, and then found I still had the problem. I was convinced it was a problem with 10.5.5. I had a lot of Finder trouble also that started right after that update.
Well, I thought all was well with 10.5.6, but it was not to be. I am still getting a lot of hangs, but mostly only with shut-downs. My restarts seem to make it through.
I am very frustrated, and wondering what to do. I am thinking of calling Tech Support, as this is happening on a new machine.I experienced the same problem. What I noticed that problem seems to occur more often when bluetooth is switched on. For instance, today I wanted to switch off bluetooth connectivity before switching off laptop completely. The bluetooth icon in menu bar from some strange reason froze completely, rest of programs and OS were working fine. When I wanted to switch off the laptop it happened again, it froze and the only way to switch it off was to hold power button.

-So over the past week, I find that my macbook pro will randomly shut down within 1 minute of being turned on from sleep mode. Within the first few days of this, I figured out that it will only happen if I move my mac around before its completely into sleep mode. BUT now it shuts down regardless or preparation before sleep mode and everytime I turn my computer back on, I log in, and then have restore my chrome window tabs and stuff. What is going on??
-Do I need to replace my drive??
*PLEASE help me, thanks!
P.S. - I am runnng OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5austine38,
if you boot into Safe mode, and then immediately restart into normal mode, log in, and put it to sleep, does it still exhibit the same random shutdowns afterwards? -
MacBook Pro (retina late-2013) randomly shut down and now won't turn on again
My first submission on here
I recently bought a MBPR a few days ago and was working seamlessly. Today I had taken it off charge to watch a couple videos and talk to a few people online. While I was doing this, the MacBook Pro was rested on a couch so I'm certain ventellation was fine.
Then at one point it shut down unexpectedly. I was able to turn if back on, thinking it might be battery but as it booted back up I saw that it was on 65%. I then continued to use it and by the time it reach ~60% it shut down again. This time I wasn't able to boot it up again at all. I pressed the pwer button, plugged it into power and pressed it again and even tried an SMC reset. The AC's indicator LED flashed from orange to green (as it is suppoed to with SMC resets) but it would still not turn on after I pressed the power button again.
Please help, this computer is brand new and I am not sure what could have caused this.
Thank youI have picked up my brand new MBPR on the 4th as well, and last night restarted for the first time after software update ( mavericks ) and after 3 hours hours of grey screen with spinning wheel called APPLE who again never knows what they are talking about because they keep saying " we never heard about that " when I called about the same issue on my 17 inch 2 months ago. So I called 3 times this morning and when I let them know that I am quite " puzzled " that every time I mention a Maverick Issue suddensly my call gets disconnected, and nobody calls me back when THEY SWEAR they took notes of my call bacl number. Last call a few minutes ago, I spoke to a supervisor and talked for 45 minutes about all issues and when he expressed concern about me recording the call I told him " You guys record my calls, so where does it say where I couldn't record yours if I wanted to ? " and the supervisor hung up on me... Way to Go APPLE!!! I've been an apple devotee since I first got my apple lisa in 1984 but they have only been going to " s*** " the last 2-3 years.
So DIGGLY, do like I will this morning and return your purchase! -
MacBook Pro goes grey screen, then shuts down randomly
My MacBook Pro (just purchased 3 months ago, not retina) shuts down unexpectedly. The screen goes grey, then it just shuts down after a few minutes. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas how to fix?
You need to reset the SMC on your Macbook.
* Shutdown your MacBook Pro
* Connect the power adapter to your Mac
* On the MacBook's keyboard, hold down the Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time
* Release all keys and the power button at the same time
* Boot your Mac as usual -
Late-2009 Macbook Pro 10.9.2 Random Shut Down
My Macbook has started intermittently shutting down while in use anywhere from 10 min. to 4hrs after startup. I took it to the Genius bar where they advised me to unistall Chrome and remove several Launch Daemons. After removing those, my computer ran well for 3 days after which it began shutting down again. Today it began to shut down (screen off, indicator light off), resist restart (would not power back on for over 15 mins), and then switch back on without going through the normal startup procedures. AHT said that everything was in working order and I have already reset the SMC. Currently I can't keep my computer on for more than a couple minutes at a time so I will post my kernel panic log ASAP.

My 2012, 17" macbook pro starts, gray screen and shuts down.
Anybody knows why my 2012, 17" macbook pro is starting with gray screen and mac logo and shuts down after?
I have Mavrick on. Last night i tried to use itunes and got an error for the first time. It said " itunes was corrupted or not installed correctly" . There is no reason because i listened to music just day before. After working on some docs i shut down the laptop. This morning when i tried to start up it didnt happened. Tried all shortcuts to do recorvery. It said " mac HD and Recorvery HD" both are blocked and not accessible.
Ran another doagnoses, checked hard drive and got errors.
I cant see why hard drive might be damaged.
Plz help me out. I didnt do any backup and dont ant to reformat it.
Thanks
-SoleilWell, i tried different things. First tried Recorvery start. It showed mac HD and Recovery HD but i couldnt choose any, said it was locked.
When i diagnosed the hard drive, dont remember exactly but it ran the HD test and on red showed Hard Drive damaged.
Tonight after putting this questions here i tried again Online Help option, i could see all my folders, files, applications but couldnt open any. It was using Safari.
Not sure whats going on. All started with getting slow and i didnt turn the laptop off "was on sleep" for few days till last night.
Like i said before, last night i couldnt start iTunes, but didnt pay attention to it and shut off laptop. Only if i knew it wont start up again.. :-(
