My MacBook pro got stolen in Lebanon. It's a 15" . It run on IOSX and I dont have ICloud. Is there a way to track my laptop? Thank you

Hi. My MacBook pro 15" got stolen in lebanon. It run on IOSX and doesn't have Icloud. Is it possible to retrieve the laptop by it's serial number and specification. Any answer is helpful cause it contains many important informations and documents

If you didn't install any tracking software on it, then no, you can't track it. Report the loss to the police and to your insurer. The chances that you will ever see the machine again range from nil to negligible. If you're smart, you have backup copies of your documents.

That's Windows malware, so it cannot be infecting your Mac. It probably is on your computer as an email attachment. To remove it, see:

Also, note that BitDefender is pretty bad at detecting Mac malware. I would recommend removing it. See my Mac Malware Guide for more information about protecting yourself from malware:

my macbook pro got stolen, is there a way to track it down?

Not if you had not already installed and configured software for tracing it.  If you hadn't done that before it got stolen, your only option is to report it to the police and let them handle it.

My MacBook pro got stolen last night. I want to report it to Apple
    (have made a police report)
How do I go abt it?

The Yellow Pages should have the phone of the Police Dept. Being it is not a life threatening situation, calling 911 seems an overkill.
Apple does not have a law enforcement dept. Best you can do, IF you enabled Find My Mac and carry your stuff in a FileVault container, is Remote Wipe it clean to keep your info from the thieves claws and prevent an identity theft as well.

Your documents were synched with iCloud when you logged in with your AppleID.   If you had a photostream before, you could access some photos using the stream.

  • Hello my macbook pro got stolen!!!

how can i find it, i didnt have icloud, i read something about serching with IP. HELP PLEASE!!!

I'm afraid that unless you have an iCloud account and have enabled 'Find my Mac' on your Mac before it was stolen there is no way you will be able to locate it.

  • My macbook pro (lion 10.7.2) takes several minutes to connect to the internet after waking from sleep.  Is there any way to make this instant?

    Hi
My Macbook Pro 15 inch takes several minutes to be able to connect to the internet after waking from sleep.  Does anyone else have this problem and is there a fix?

The message that comes up when I click on "TomTom Home Install" is "You cannot open Home Install because Power PC applications are no longer supported." Does this mean that the TomTom, which is absolutely vital to my life - well, not literally but you know what I mean - can no longer be used with my MacBook Pro?
What that means is that is can't be used with Lion 10.7.  PowerPC was the chip Apple used up until 2006 when they switched to Intel.  At that point, they created the Rosetta emulator to allow for PPC support for 5 years.  They finally dropped the support with the release of Lion.  It will only work with OS X 10.6 or earlier.  The other option is to purchase a new GPS, which can be had for $100 for a decent one.

  • I had my ipod set up on mobile me and now it is stolen and I don't have icloud, is there a way to fix that?

My ipod touch was stolen and I had it set up on mobile me, but now it's telling me that I can't use that and must switch to icloud.  Unfortunately, I'm not set up with icloud and cant track my ipod.  I think this is outrageous and it should have done that itself since i was already set up on the other, but it did not.  Is there a way to fix this and track my ipod?

You open itunes to change you itunes password.
You go to your e-mail server to change your e-mail passwords.
You go to any other program/service that you accessed form the iphone and change those passwrods.

  • My MacBook pro got stolen--- HELP!!!

Two days ago I left my MacBook in my car and someone smash the window and took it with my bag and everything, I already filed a police report and contacted apple. I had LoJack installed on it but I had a password on my computer and I've been doing research and for what Ive seen if they change the HD, LoJack won't work, is this true?, can someone please explain this. If someone takes it for service does apple take away??
    Someone please help

I'm afraid if they replace the hard drive you are going to be out of luck. There is no way to reinstall LoJack remotely. It's also possible the theives are simply not connecting to the Internet, or they wiped the hard drive and reinstalled a new operating system.
Any luck with your car insurance?

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.
    “Welcome to Aperture 3.2
Your library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of Aperture. Once upgraded, you will not be able to use this library with previous versions of Aperture.
Upgrading a library from previous versions of Aperture 3 generally takes a few minutes or less, though larger libraries will take longer. After that, Aperture 3.2 will upgrade your library's thumbnails, but you can use the application during that time.
Tip: To open a different library, quit Aperture and hold the Option key down while starting Aperture
    Current Library Location:
    Jadzia (home)   -----Pictures------Aperture Library
                                                      QUIT             UPGRADE”
I have heard horror stories  about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma.  I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?

Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop.  Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file.  For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

SIgn in with your Apple ID, the same one you used to access this support forum.
Hopefully, you will see a list of all the devices you registered with your Apple ID, including their serial numbers. Let me know how this works out.
Edit to add: If you enabled "find my imac" on your Pro, you ought to be able to remotely lock it, or even wipe its memory. Click http://www.icloud.com/ sign in with your Apple ID and click the big green "find my iPhone" icon (nevermind the name, it will find all your devices provided they're running Lion or iOS 5).
Then file a police report and nail the b*****d.
