My MacBook Pro has booting Problems, Light keeps on Blinking. What to do?

My MACBOOK PRO (Early 2011) is having booting problems. It doesnt want to be shut off. If I do shut it off it would take an hour for it to boot. The light keeps on blinking when i push the on button. After a few times of pushing the button and the blinking light the light keeps steady and the MACBOOK PRO seems to be turning on . A Whirring noise/ sound can be heard. I then turn it off and push the ON Button again and the MACBOOK PRO finally boots. The problem repeats again when i turn the unit off.
I already had it checked by APPLE but they said they cannot find anything wrong with it!! Any help will be highly appreciated.

Shut the machine down by holding the power button until the computer is off.
Release the power button.
Reset the parameter RAM by powering up the machine then holding the key combination:
<COMMAND> + <OPTION> + p + r   until you hear the restart chime three times
Then perform a SMC Reset by following this procedure from Apple:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Lastly,
If you are running 10.5.4 as shown in your details... Boot to the System install disk
and select the language then select the menu item "Utilities > Disk Utilities"
repair permissions and repair the disk using the repair tool

  • 2012 MacBook Pro Intel i7 (purchased May 2013) constantly drops airport connection. My 2006 MacBook Pro has no problems connecting and staying connected.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.
    Thanks for help.

After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. You can find the download at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport.

  • Macbook Pro weird boot problems

    Hello!
I have a macbook Pro (late 2012) with OS X Yosemite (latest update) and I have some weird stuff going on in it...
2 days ago, I was using normally it, as I use it for work, when it suddenly freezes (never happened before). when i turn it on again, a empty symbol shows instead of the grey apple until i turn it off.
then, when i opened the recovery mode to see if my HD was damaged or something, it just do not shows my HDD at all to verify for integrity. I trun it off and let it be.
After several hours later, i decided to try to boot it again, and, for my surprise, it boots normally and all my files are normal. But after 10-15 minutes backing up all my important files to cloud services, it begins to be really slow. The spinning disk is shown even when i tried to close a finder window, move simple pages files or even to open the top menu to shut it down. The weird part is going even crazier: when i put a freezing gel (a gel packet that freezes and thaw without water is involved) under the macbook, the slowness is off and it works almost at normal speed. when the freezing effect is off, the slowleness is back
All this parts repeats very often.. sometimes the empty symbol appears when booting, sometimes it boots normally and after several minutes it becomes really slow. I tried to diagnose if a hardware problem was involved (pressing "D" after pushing the power button), but no problems were found at all.
what is going on? do you guys even had this? I hope it´s not the logic board!
    (Sorry for my bad english)

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • My new MacBook Pro has display problems

I am new to Mac. I had purchased a brand new MacBook Pro 13 inches with i7 processor on April2 this year, Within 10 days the display screen started to grey out and later  on develop horizontal lines. I telephoned Apple support and when a telephonic solution  became unlikely I was asked to take it to an Apple Authorized service centre in my town. The technician there could not clearly explain to me what was wrong with the system, but I understood him to say that he has reinstalled the graphics driver and the system was trouble free for a prolonged time thereafter (at the service centre). I also understood him to say that should the problem recur again, he would have to replace the motherboard. I was on a travelling tour for a week after this and was not able to test out this repair (I took my old windows system with me for the travel) To my utter dismay the problem has recurred again after 28 days of purchase. I have attached screenshots. The button for uploaing videos is greyed out therefore  I will have to restrict myself to screenshots. All the three screen images occcur
in turn and the system becomes unusable and I have to use the poweroff button. The display problems start within 10 minutes of switiching on the system.
I took some time to discover these forums. The first time this problem occurred on my machin I posted this problem on mac-forums and I was advised to take it to an Apple store and let the apple genius bar worry about this one. I do not live wihtin any sort of manageable distance from such a place and the repair centre is an Apple Authorized Service Provider
Coming to the emotional aspects of this technological glitch. I feel like I have been hit by a truck.I had saved and scraped pennies to buy this dream machine and I believed I was escaping the ficleness of windows. But no windows system of mine (I have three) become so unusable
Will I have to spend time and effort to lug this machine to service centre to replace each of its component parts one by one ? Can I ever trust this machine to provide a presentation to an audience? What sort of an impression will I create if the system plays this trick on me in the middle of some presentation?

Shootis007, What is CC company? I googled CC and got many different answers.
I called Apple Support and told them my story and pressed for replacement and they told me repeatedly that there is no policy for replacement. The initial support person who attended my call asked me to take it to the seller and ask the seller for replacement. I dont think that is the way to go. I dont know what is his fault. He gave me a brand new system, the package was opened by me. Since I am new to Mac, I had taken a Mac user friend with me who showed me how to get started (right there in the shop) Neither the experienced Mac user friend nor I felt anything remiss at that time or later at the Seller level. Nevertheless I called the reseller and he explained his helplessness. I dont think it his fault at all.
Since I kept insisting on replacment I was put through to another support person who took pains to reassure me that I should get the defective part replaced and thereafter all will be well. For now I trust him. I have no other alternative
I really am puzzled. All you dear Mac users should know that the machine I dreamed of and really saved to purchase is giving me no end of troubles whereas my three windows machines sit there with their numerous stated deficiencies but gives me uninterrupted service

  • My MacBook Pro has started to shutdown by itself recently, what could cause this?

I need some help, please.  My MacBook Pro {running on 10.7.5} has started to become sluggish recently, and just yesterday it shutdown itself twice.  I have noticed that when am surfing the web, openning another application or especially using Yahoo Mail, the cursor turns into the color wheel and just spins for a while.  I ran Sophos Anti-Virus and nothing was found.  I did have a problem with memory a while ago, but then I just moved things over to the external HD, and everything ran smoothly again.  My first thought is that it is a problem with the memory again, but the self-shutdown got me worried. Any thoughts?  Thanks

Nor will it, so abandon that line of thinking.
After it restarted, did you see a dialog box resembling this one:
If so, next time it occurs click Report...
Before you send it to Apple, copy the text of the report. Paste it in a reply.

  • HT201364 MacBook Pro has DNS problems. Need to Download new OS, but can't.

I need to download on another computer since my I can't download from my MacBook, but I only have one old desktop with not enough space or a Windows laptop. I want to download it onto a thumb drive on one of those machines. How can I do that?

It would make a lot more sense to fix the "DNS problems," whatever they are, but if for some reason you can't do that, and you also can't free up about 5 GB of space on your other Mac (which doesn't have "DNS problems"?), then you'll have to install OS X on an external drive, boot from it, and then download the Mavericks installer. You can't download it directly to a secondary volume.

  • My MacBook Pro has been infected by a virus. What do I do?

I attempted to download a file from a website ( probably shouldn't have ) and my Anti virus gave a error message reporting a virus has infected my mac. After this, the virus corrupted the Avast application completely. So I deleted it and reinstalled it, now my internet and my mail is unsecure. What virus is this and what should I do? I am currently using an on screen keyboard in case what I have is a Keylogger. I have 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

Nothing is in the Virus Chest. Is my Mac safe?
I don't know. The act of reinstalling Avast might have destroyed that information.
I would run a full scan of your hard drive with Avast and see what turns up. If nothing, then you're probably safe. If something turns up, post the full name of the malware detected as well as the path to the file identified as that malware.
After you are done, I strongly advise removing Avast. It has a serious problem with false positives. For information on how to protect yourself, see my Mac Malware Guide.

Your not weird, your a audiophile.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audiophile
Good sound costs money. And with a 5.1 system your usually doing surround sound decoding for BlueRay movies etc. for home theater purposes.
The PC 5.1 surround sound systems require a audio card in a PC tower and mainly used for playing 3D games so that won't work for any Mac at all. So don't buy a PC 5.1 surround sound system for your Mac.
Harmon Kardon has the GoPlay, it's a portable stereo with awesome sound (not as good as their theater systems) and you can hook up a analog male/male stereo mini cable to it from the Mac.
$200 and it has a iPod dock and also takes like 8 batteries so it's portable.
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002GHBTNC
There is also the Bose Wave clock/radio, you will need a stereo mini to RCA break out cable for that.
    http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/wave_systems/index.jsp
The GoPlay has much better sound than the Bose, I think the Bose are overpriced.

My MacBook Pro has 10.5.8 but came with 10.5.7 install disc and won't boot up and can't reinstall.
the disc is spinning and I see the apple on the screen with the spinning gear and after a while it just turns off OR the few times it does get past that point when I go into disc utility it tells me that it can not install on this machine!
It's driving me crazy, please help!!!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I'm not entirely sure I follow you here, home sharing comes with iTunes 10.2, so far as I am aware even iTunes 10.6.1 only requires OS X 10.5.8 or better. On that basis I'm not sure why you think you have a problem.

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • 13" late 2011 MacBook Pro has frozen after Yosemite installation. I can, however, boot from a clone of my MacBook Air that is on an external drive. Despite the fact that I can boot from the external, could it be the RAM that's the prob

My daughter's 13" late 2011 MacBook Pro has frozen (null sign displays) after Yosemite installation. I can, however, boot from a clone of my MacBook Air that is on an external drive. I reinstalled Yosemite on the MBP HD, but it still hangs in mid install. Despite the fact that I can boot from the external, could it be the RAM that's the problem? I'd happily put 8 GB in if it seems probable that would solve the problem. I've tried all the suggested procedures that I've seen posted here. Disk Utility, and my older version of DiskWarrior indicate the HD is OK. I have DiskWarrior 5 on order.

Boot the MBP with the OPTION key down.  If successful, you should see two HDD icons,  Select the recovery partition (on the right).
From the 4 option menu select Disk Utility.
Run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.
If the disk cannot be repaired, it will have to be replaced.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro has adware. Keep getting annoying pop-ups. How do i clean my laptop

Macbook Pro has adware. Keep getting annoying pop-ups. How do I clean my laptop

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
