My MacBook Pro has no sound, but the volume setting works

My 15' MacBook Pro 2012's sound is not working. You can still change the volume by pressing F10 to F12, but not actual sound comes out. The headphone jack is not red (although I have experienced that problem before and fixed it). Whether the headphones are plugged in or if they aren't, there is still no sound. I am running on OS X 10.7.5 with a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory and the storage capacity is 749.3 GB total.

Have you tried a PRAM reset?

My Macbook Air has no sound and the volume is locked?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

        Choose the method for:

    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup

        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

  • MacBook Pro has no sound at all. Called Apple and they said to reinstall OS X.

I have recently discovered that my MacBook Pro has no sound except for the startup chime. I called Apple and they told me to reinstall OS X because something went wrong in the OS. Is there any other way to fix this?

That's a really overly simplistic answer to your problem. Re-installing OS X doesn't always fix every problem. Yes, it might in your case, but it might not. Are you still under warranty? Either way, I'd take it into your local Apple Store and show them the problem and let them fix it. If the system has to be installed anew, so be it. But rule out other problems first.
Before you do anything, make sure that you have a back-up of your data, applications, etc. If you don't already have a back-up scheme, get an external hard drive and use Time Machine to back up your computer. Then take it into the Apple Store.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

My 2008 MacBook Pro is turning on but the screen stays black. It makes the turning on noise but nothing happens after that. Can anyone tell me what wrong with it and maybe help me out??

    Make a PRAM reset > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 Also, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If they don't work, that may be a display or GPU issue. Take your MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller. If you want to know which is the part, connect an external display

  • What do you do when you download a show and it has no sound? ( the volume is up on itunes and my computer)

what do you do when you download a show and it has no sound? ( the volume is up on itunes and my computer)

That's what iTunes -> Preferences -> Playback -> Sound Check does - equalizes the volume across tracks to provide a more-even playback.

My iphone 4s screen has gone blank but the phone still works

    Hello antspeaks,
It sounds as though screen curtain has been enabled on your iPhone. This can be disabled by tapping three times with three fingers on your iPhone's screen.
Turn the screen curtain on or off. Triple-tap with three fingers. When the screen curtain is on, the screen contents are active even though the display is turned off.

  • MacBook Pro has no sound, no way to adjust volume, and will not play music.

My MacBook Pro seems to have lost all of its audio functions.  I cannot adjust my volume using the keyboard controls, or through the button at the top of my desktop screen, or even through System Preferences.  I get the normal volume adjust screen, but it is faded, and there is a symbol over it indicating that I cannot adjust anything.  When I go into the Sounds menu from System Preferences, there is nothing for me to select under Input or under Output.  My computer makes no noise, whether I'm using iTunes, watching a video, or anything.  I cannot play music.  My songs simply won't start, and when I skip to any given part of a song, the music still refuses to play.  I am not getting the red light from my headphone port.  I tried to remove any dust that may have collected in the headphone port, and I've even tried to reset my NVRAM and PRAM.  I also updated to OS X Mavericks 10.9.2.  Nothing helped.  I remember that my MacBook was working perfectly fine all of yesterday, but at one point later in the evening, I tried to plug in my headphones to play music, but nothing would play.  I opened Spotify, and it gave me a message that my speakers were broken (I was using the internal speakers).  That's when I first noticed the issue.  Is there anything else I can try before going to the Apple Store and having them try to fix it? Thank you very much, I appreciate any help.

The last gasp is an OSX reinstall.  If that fails, then the genius bar is the best option.
    Ciao.

  • HT201177 Macbook Pro is turned on but the screen is black.

Ok, I have read A LOT of discussions on this issue but it seems like nothing works.
I bought my Macbook Pro 13" in September 2012 (so i've had it for a little over a year) in the States. So, I was just using the laptop a couple nights ago, then I closed the lid to the Sleep mode. Then, yesterday morning, I plugged in the charger and unplugged it after the batter's full (showed the green light). Later on that day in the afternoon, I opened the lid to wake up the laptop...but the SCREEN wouldn't display.... It has remained BLACK .... I KNOW the mac is still working..cuz when I turn it on the Caps Lock button shows green light and the sleeping light at the front is working...
I don't think it's  RAM problem...cuz I did that Option-Comman-P-R thingy..and held it until I heard the third startup chime... (I held those keys at the SAME time...WAS I SUPPOSED TO press them one by one??)
Last method I used was the SAFE mode...and now the VOLUME buttons and the keyboard light buttons Dont work now.....
    PLEASE HELP!!! THANK YOUUUU!!!

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Macbook pro has no sound

I'm having a very strange thing happen on my Macbook Pro.  When I turn on the macbook, I get the opening chime and then after that, there is no sound at all.  When i increase the volume or decrease, the indicators go up and down, but still no sound.  Can anyone explain what might be happening?

Was able to go to this posting and look at my system preferences and this seemed to do the trick.  Seemed like after I used LogMeIn on my iPad, it set my audio to something else.
