My MacBook Pro is running extremely slowly, no solutions work
Hi there,
My Macbook Pro all of a sudden has started to operate very slowly. Start up takes 3-4mins and each action delays by up to 15 seconds. I have used CleanmyMac2, my memory is only 15% used, there is nothing that runs above 11% CPU, I have reset PRAM and SMC. No real change.
The only thing that I think I did differently before it started to be like this was download Vuze and Bittorrent, both of which I have now uninstalled but the problem persists. Please help!
I'm sorry to tell you this but downloading torrents opens up a Pandora's box of potential malware intrusion, and CleanMyMac2 will simply make a mess of things.
It is certainly possible to diagnose the exact cause of the poor performance you describe, but I recommend nothing less than completely erasing that Mac and reconfiguring it from the ground up. If you created a backup prior to running Bittorrent, now is the time to use it. Otherwise, you will be facing a protracted amount of work with no guarantee of success.
Furthermore, depending on exactly what you used CleanMyMac to do, it will result in unrecoverable alterations to the Mac's operating system, its required programs, any additional software that you may have installed, your iPhoto Library and other files you may consider essential. Its uninstallation instructions are ineffective at removing it, a typical characteristic of a plethora of similar garbage utilities that convey no benefit on a Mac. I know of no way to recover from its effects on a Mac other than to erase it completely.

I have repeatedly tried to update the software 'Security Update 2013-003' on my MacBook Pro OS X Version 10.7.5 but it keeps failing to install, stating that 'an Unexpected Error Occurred'.
Since the update failed the first time, my MacBook Pro has been running extremely slowly and failing to open basic apps like Mail and Safari at times.
All other updates have been successful apart from this one. I have made sure that my MacBook isn't full (emptied Trash etc) but it still runs really slowly at times so I think it's linked with the Security Update failure.
Please help!
*I have tried installing the update from Support Downloads but it says there isn't space on Macintosh to install it. There is 190 GB of free space on that disk so I don't understand that at all.
LION system.I have tried and it downloads successfully but when I install it, it comes up with this:

My MacBook Pro is running very slowly! Please help!
Hi all, as of late last year my MacBook Pro started running very slowly. As I'm a novice when it comes to computers I thought I'd turn to the interweb for solutions. I've tried a couple of basic things but don't seem to be getting anywhere.I ran the EtreCheck program as it seemed to help others. Would love some help interpreting this...

Thanks in advance! MikePlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. It will be slow, but there should be no beachballing. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -

Macbook Pro 2011 running very slowly after upgrading to Mavericks
I am in deep trouble with my wife so any help would be gratefully accepted.
Shortly after Mavericks became available I upgraded my wife's Macbook Pro 2011 to use the new OS version. Ever since then, the Macbook has been running noticeably slowly. In particular, Mail is almost unusuable taking minutes to open and showing long delays while moving around messages, folders, etc. Excel and Word are also much slower, Safari is slow, in fact just about everything is grinding.
Any ideas on what can I can do to improve things and apease my unhappy wife would be much appreciated.
I have attached the Etrecheck output FYI
Thanks
Andrew

MacBook Pro suddenly running very slowly
Hi,
My MacBook Pro usually runs quite fast, but since last night, it's been so slow. I was watching BBC One live online and it just froze, so I restarted the mac and the speed of everything is now silly. Even doing things such as opening a new tab or opening Finder gives me the spinning wheel. Things will eventually load but it's so oddly slow. I did the EtreCheck report that I'd seen being spoken about, so if anyone can spot anything wrong, please let me know! (if it makes any difference, when I actually ran the report, everything was running smoothly. not sure if that's just coincidence.)

My macbook pro (13inch mid 20101) is running very slowly since I upgraded to Yosemite. How can I cure this or how can I remove Yosemite?

Opening apps or web pages is incredibly slow and extremely frustrating.Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -
My Macbook Pro is running very slowly
Problem description:
My Macbook Pro (2009) slowed significantly when I installed Yosemite.
I made some changes to settings of various apps and this helped but the system seems to be running increasingly slowly.
I have installed the latest version of Yosemite; I am now on 10.10.2. And the system has slowed a little more.
I have trashed a couple of Apps to make more room. Also a movie. System seems to be running a little faster now (or should I say less slow).
I suspect syncing between iPad and laptop may be slowing the laptop.
The Apple chappies at the shop said my battery needs servicing or replacing (probably the latter).
In particular the following apps are slow:
* Chrome (altho slowness may sometimes be caused by slow Internet connection I guess.
* iPhoto
* MS Word is almost unusable because it is so slow. Possibly the version I have is incompatible with Mavericks?
I se that the EtreCheck report talks about Tuxera being out of date. I can’t find where it is on my system in order to uninstall it.
All help and advice gratefully received.

Download EasyFind and use it to locate specific files. Often it will be successful when Spotlight fails:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/easyfind/id411673888?mt=12
Delete Google Chrome and its various parts. It is a resource hog and has a history of compatibility issues with OSX.
Install additional RAM. Your MBP will support up to 8 GB> The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.

Macbook pro is running extremely hot
when running graphics intensive programs (normally Second Life) my macbook pro gets extremely hot and will top 200 F. at high temps performance begins to sufffer. i use smcFanControl to help cool it and to track the temp. i retruned it to apple once through Best Buy where i purchased it. it had a nonfunctional key and at the time i had them check for the high temperatures. it came back with a new motherboard but the high temps persisted. this process takes 3 weeks.
are there any suggestions on how to keep it cool. fans haven't worked for me.You might try a cooling pad. The Mac will run hotter using graphics intensive programs, and would probably benefit from one of these. Best Buy should have a selection of these to choose from. I don't use one myself, so I don't have any specific suggestions. A Google search might be worth doing, as there are sometimes reviews.
I assume that the Mac is being used in a way that it is well-ventilated and not on a pillow or anything like that which would impede its ability to cool itself. Air needs to be able to circulate freely around it since it also uses its metal skin to radiate away the heat.
Good luck! -
Macbook PRO 2009 running extremely slow all of a sudden
Hello, I have been encountering recent problems regarding my macbook pro 15" from 2009. All of a sudden it became extremely slow and spinning beach ball every time I click something. It used to be very fast it's as if something happened over night. I have already tried re formatting the whole computer and installed a new os x. I verified the hard drive that it's okay and I have already reset the pram. Would love some help please and thank you. Specs for my laptop are: 2.8GHz Intel core 2 duo, 500GB HD, 8GB Ram and it's from 2009. No recent applications were installed.

Over the past one month or so, my MacBook Pro has been running a little slow; in fact, it even freezes sometimes and certain application shut down by themselves. This is the very reason why I switched from Windows to Mac. How can I deal with ths issue and fix my computer's performance. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a nice day.
Sincerely,
Talha ShahbazYou can restore your mac to facotry default and reload all your imformation by backing it up before hand.
