My macbook pro is still under the 1 year warranty, and it has frozen three times.

I got it checked out twice and had left it for overnight testing once.  They found nothing and I'm extremely frustrated. I have always been an avid PC user and to tell you honestly, nothing like this has ever happened to me.  This is a brand new macbook and I have not dropped it or done anything malicious with it and it is already freezing on me.  I bought a macbook pro specifically because I heard it was the best and nothing like this would ever happen (i.e. crashes, viruses).  Extremely disappointed.

What have you added to it since you got it? Software? Memory? Freeware? Shareware?

My newest Mac just did the same "folder of death" dance. It's too late for you now, but you might consider a passport backup drive. You can get 2&3 T-bytes now fairly reasonably priced. A given with computers is they will crash, just a question of how bad and when, so you can be prepared for the next time.

  • My Macbook Pro is still under limited warranty. Is it possible to upgrade my pro to retina display by going in to the store?

My Macbook Pro is still under limited warranty. Is it possible to upgrade my pro to retina display by going in to the store?

You can only exchange or upgrade your macbook pro for a retina macbook if you are within the 14 days purchase time frame. After the 14th day, you are no longer eligible for an exchange or any upgrade but only for free repairs.
Limited warranty doesn’t mean you would be eligible for an exchange or an upgrade, but its a time period in which your existing macbook hardware and software issues are rectified free of cost.
    Hope this helps.....

  • After a year of no use and a fully discharged battery, my MacBook Pro refuses to accept the administrator name and the password. How can I reset these?

After a year of no use and a resulting fully discharged battery, the MacBook Pro refuses to recognize the administrator name and password (both). It has system OS X 10.6 which can not be upgraded without the information. How can I reset or reistall the administrator name and password?

Thanks to all who responded. You are all absolutely correct. However, this Ipad was a gift to my wife who was dying of cancer in the hospital and wanted some entertainment. So I started it out with her Apple ID. After she passed away I moved from Sacramento to Austin and eventually proceeded to get the Apple ID changed from my wife's to mine. Meanwhile when she was in the hospital I opened an Itunes account in my name to buy movies for her. That was the first mistake.
Then during the move to Austin I lost track of the IPAD and later found it and tried to use support but could not remember the proper ID. Later the folks at the Apple store helped me create a new and novel Apple ID that was unfortunately unlike any other.
The botom line is that I am stuck with three Apple IDs and three passwords. I am told by Apple there is nothing they can do about this as IDs cannot be changed or destroyed. I can quit using them or start a new account but when I try to do that the system keeps remembering too many things from the past and resists.
Even if I sold this Ipad and bought a new one, the system memory is still there.
I think the real problem is that destop and laptop computers are totally owned by an individual and that individual can control logins and passwords to his liking. IPADs and similar Apple products are different in that the corporation has built in their own intrusion detection schemes because of the relation to Itunes.
One thing I thought about is to open a new Itunes account pretendding to be a new customer with my regular Apple ID. Perhaps I could do the same with Apple Support.
    Thanks for your comments.

  • My MacBook Pro is still running the OS X 10.5.8, can I install the Mavericks directly? Or could you advise which latest system is able to be installed for my notebook?

Hello, my MacBook Pro is still running the OS X 10.5.8, can I install the Mavericks directly? Or could you advise which latest system is able to be installed for my notebook?

First up, we don't know what kind of MacBook you have so we can't tell you what OS you can run.  You can use this instruction to identify which MacBook model you have:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1635.  Alternatively, from the Apple menu open "About this Mac".  From the window that pops up, click "More Info".  This will open the system profiler.  Click "Hardware" and locate the model identifier, there.
Next, you need to determine if your system can even run Mavericks before you can go about installing it.  These are the requirements:
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
Lastly, as you'll note from the above, you can't update to Mavericks (or Mountain Lion or Lion) from 10.5.8.  Mavericks is only available in the App Store.  You need to be running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) in order to download and install any OS from Lion (10.7) and up.  You can buy Snow Leopard here:  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

  • My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

    Hello Douglas,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the built-in iSight camera on your MacBook Pro.  I recommend the following steps for this issue:
Important: Follow these instructions in order. Test the camera between steps to see if the issue is resolved.
    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • My iphone 5 screen is broken, it is still under 1 year warranty, how can i fix it?

my iphone 5 screen is cracked, it is still under 1 year warranty, how can i fix it? Do I need to pay for the new screen replacement?

Your warranty became void when you damaged the screen.  Out of warranty replacement is $229.  Some Apple stores are starting to just repair the screen for $149, but reportedly it's only a few subset of Apple stores.  Call yours and find out.

  • I have an iphone 5 that was originally with verizon but has been unlocked now by them and the phone is still under the apple warranty, if I go to replace for power button malfunctioning, will they give replace it with an unlocked phone as well?

I currently have an iphone 5 that was verizon locked but has been unlocked by them because of my contract, the phone is still under the apple warranty but the power button is not working, if it was the case that apple has to replace it with another phone, will they replace with an unlocked phone now?
    thanks

The SIM Lock is stored on the Apple Activation Server - if it has been correctly unlocked by a network then this would have been done on the Activation Server.
When you get your replacement handset through Apple they mirror the activation server details of your existing handset and the current SIM LOCK status is mirror'd onto the new device.
(100% Accurate - done mine 2 weeks before christmas due to original 5 sleep button stopped working)

hello, I am trying to reinstall os x lion in my macbook pro mid 2012, from my recovery disc, and its imposible because every time I have problems to download de installer or something that is required to do that. what can I do?

When you do get it downloaded, before you do anything else, save the Lion installer - make a copy and put it somewhere safe. you can then reuse, make a clean install and other things.

  • Do latest macbook pro's still have the heat issue? (7/10/06)

wondering if the latest revisions of macbook pro still have the heat issue.. i heard the issue of the fan going off/on causing that 'whine' is gone and now the last thing holding me back from making the 'switch' is this heat dealy.

My week 12 MBP has never had heat issues. It's fast, stable and comfortable to use.
The case bottom of my 5+ year old TiBook gets hotter than the MBP. I've used a tilt stand for PowerBooks for years, both to reduce heat and because I prefer the typing angle.
People are not getting burned. Really. If I were to charge a battery at the same time I'm running processes that load up both CPUs, the metal strip behind the function keys would get quite warm. It might be uncomfortable to touch (but doesn't have to be touched to use the computer). But it will not result in a physical burn, unless one loves discomfort enough to keep touching it for a protracted period. Even then, not a serious burn. A cup of coffee or tea is far more dangerous than a MacBook Pro.
I've encountered several hot-running MBPs owned by people that I know in my local area. In each case, the problem was caused by software that was loading up the processors at full blast. One case was a runaway process that was initiated by software that was incompatible with the Intel processors. Another was caused by a stalled startup item -- again, software incompatible with the Intel CPU. In both cases, Migration Assistant had been used and the applications had not been updated for Intel compatibility.
And still another case was a large collection of Widgets, some of which are badly written and load up the processors. Deactivating all but 3 or 4 Widgets made that computer run cool and quickly.
Complaints about heat on this forum dropped dramatically after the last firmware update.
If you want the most powerful notebook computer Apple has ever designed, get a MacBook Pro. I'm delighted with mine. No fix necessary, thank you.

  • Hi, i've just got a problem with my macbook pro: I bought it two years ago and suddenly, it stopped working. Im freaking out. No answer from the people hwo suposed to know about these problems. Any tip??

    Help!
i had a problem with my macbook pro: on tuesday 16th (agoust, 2011) I went to a friend's house and show her some document i had in my computer, then i turned off my mac and it asked me: "there are some actualizations available, do you want to update before turn off?" i clicked on yes, waited for update and then the macbook turned off. When I got back home, I tried to turn it on again.... but nothing: it didn't sound baaaammmmm as allways, it didn't reacted. I tried again, but useless.
The next day i went to one of these "authorized management centers", but they coudn't say anything or do anything about it. First they told me the problem was the battery, then the hard disk, then the video card... but don't. I left my mac there by two weeks, hoping they could help me, but they didn't. So I picked it up and go to other place.
The rare thing is that i have just two years with my mac, and i didn't do anything stupid on it (didn't fall, get wet, microwave, hot, shocked, hit or anything) It just stopped working. Two times it turned on. But if not, it's the same story:
When i pushed the button to turn on, sounds like baaaaaammmm, but then again, and again, and again, and the screen doesn't get blue or anything, it appears a foder with a "?" and then the computer turns off...
Im wondering if this is a problem on this computers, because some of my friends told me things much like that that happened with their macbooks.
What's going on??? why this is happening?? cn you help me?

This article may help: A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac.

  • If I cracked the screen on my 5s and it's still under 1 year warranty, can I get a free replacement?

Hey. I dropped my phone yesterday and cracked the screen. There's also a huge chunk missing. I've had my 5s for about 10 months and I was wondering if I could get it replaced under the warranty for free by going to an Apple store?
If it helps, it has also been experiencing some minor software issues, like shutting down randomly for a couple seconds at a time as well. Those issues have been manageable. I just want to know my options before I spend a ton of money on a replacement phone when I could have avoided it.

Only if you purchased the extended Apple warranty. Otherwise, it will be treated as user negligence which voids the warranty.
