My macbook pro just told me someone was using one if my wireless ip addresses

has anyone had this happen.  I got a quick message that an ip address of mine was being used????  Is this part of Lion I just got this macbook pro

This is often a problem caused by a poorly configured or non-existent DHCP server. Check your router settings and make sure that DHCP is enabled and configured to allow a significant number of IPs to be assigned for a reasonable amount of time. If you don't have access to the DHCP server on your network (ie You are at school, work, etc.) then contact your network administrator and they can help you with the problem.
More information about your computer and network is really required to provide a better tailored answer.
For example:
What type of network? (Home, work, school)
What is providing the network? (cable modem, dsl router, wireless router, etc)
Who set it up?
Do you know how to configure your network preferences?
Do you know how to configure your network equipment?

  • My MacBook pro completely froze while I was using safari and after a force shutdown now on startup reaches apple logo screen but goes no further. What could cause this?

While browsing on safari earlier today I had about 10 tabs open some with YouTube.
I was on a flash website browsing and the system froze and the spinning wheel came Up on the mouse.
I tried to move the mouse to get to the force quit in safari but then the mouse froze too, after a minute I held down the power button and turned off the laptop.
Now I tried to turn it back on, it turns on and loads up as far as the white screen with the grey apple logo and goes no further?
What does this mean, how can I solve it? I'm in panic as all of my school notes are on it, any help or advice would be muh appreciated!

Do you have backups of all the data on the startup drive? If not, do nothing else until you've backed up that data, if you still can.

    Can somebody please advise urgently...
I backed up my entire hard-drive of my macbook pro - just prior to installing osx mountain lion.
I put everything into a folder on my desktop - then backed it up onto an external drive. Once this was done - i deleted the folder off my desktop - and  following this - things started to go all weird...pages hanging, the coloured 'wheel of death' appeared for ages. So i had to employ a 'hard-boot' restart - as i had not other options.
I'm pretty sure i made copies of of files/apps/folders etc - however not so sure now as i cant even start up my laptop!!!
Can somebosy please help me urgently??!!!

Got the exact same problem, and I also did this operation many times before, from 500Gb to 750Gb, and then from 750Gb to 1 Gb. Not My HD got a little such complaining about bad sectors when in windows bootcamp, but still runs fine though.
So I bought a new 1Gb drive exactly same drive as the one thats getting sick. I did the clone thing, with super duper, CCC, DU, but no matter it will not boot when i move the new drive inside the macbook…….**** thing exuse me, but wasted so much time.
Now I get this strange feeling that something must have changed in the macbook itself. Just wondering if this could be a EFI "mac bios" prevention thing, they made just to sell more new computers, when you can't improve or fix your old one.
If so, then its pretty scary. If not then I simply can't figure out why this suddenly becomes a problem for so many people, as I see so many posts about this!!

Press the Power button for about 10 seconds to shutdown the computer. Wait a couple of minutes then restart. If it restarts OK, then immediately repair the hard drive:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.
    good luck

Syncing the 3GS is exactly the same as syncing the 4S - so just do the same as you've been doing.
How do you normally sync contacts from your Mac to your iPhone? Via iTunes over USB/WiFi, or via iCloud?

  • My one day old MacBook pro just turned off and it won't come back on either through mains or battery power

My one day old MacBook pro just turned off and it won't come back on either through mains or battery power it's as if the unit is completely dead. Even with the mains plugged in there is no green or orange light to say its charging or full charged. The battery was fully charged anyway seconds before the screen went off.

When you say no green or orange light are you refering to the little led on the magsafe connector?  That could mean either the charger/cable are bad or the circuitry in the MBP is faulty.  Since this is a brand new MBP best bet is to take it back to an Apple Retail store and have the genius bar staff take a look.  They can determine if it needs to be reparired or replaced.

"from right to left I'm looking at usb, hdmi, and sd card reader?"
    Yes.
"Looks like there's nothing in the area to heat up."
Yup, so they're probably right, it was a mechanical pressure. I could see how that would happen if you had a USB plugged in and a cinder block fell on it.
"Apple is going to ridiculous lengths to promote thinner, lighter products over build quality."
Yes, the first time I saw these new MBPs I thought it was an Air!
Maybe if Steve was still around they would be making the tops out of a more rigid aluminum.
I had a friend out of college, a mechanical engineer. He was working for a major American auto manufacturer. He said his whole job was to design the stampings for the throttle linkage to use the minimum and to waste the minimum amount of material. Later he called me and said that they were going crazy with a recall and a redesign. The linkages got so thin that they were fracturing in normal driving and the cars would go immediately to full throttle.
    Yah that would be bad.
So you could probably gently push that dimple back, being careful not to mar the surface. Then pray that one of those elements that comprise the top case fails!!

  • Macbook Pro just stuck ("hang") sometimes

    Greetings.
I have following problem that pursuit me for around 1 year now and actually it might have always been there:
Macbook Pro just "stuck" sometimes and require me to restart the application as its not responding. "Send report to apple" appears right when i force quit from a program and it says "hang".
Usually it happens in games (like World of Warcraft — its possibly the most hardware demanding game i use), but sometimes also happens in iTunes, Safari (if i open like 20-30 tabs that might have "heavy" flash ads) etc. It used to happen quite rare but now it seems to happen every 2nd day and its quite annoying.
    - At first i thought that the problem might lay in my HDD and so i replaced it (wanted bigger one anyway) in authorized apple SC. I also re-installed everything from scratch and "manually" moved documents to my new HDD.
    - Then i thought that it might be my ram since i upgraded from 2Gb to 3Gb (1+2 Both Hynix). AHD and Rember didnt show any errors.
    - Then i thought that it might be overheating. Even though i have climate control in my office (26-27C i believe), i bought Zalman-NC1000 external notebook cooler.
    Nothing of those helped.
So i am wondering what else can i do to stop this annoying "hangs"?
My macbook pro is identified by system as: MacBookPro3.1, c2d 2.4, has 8600GTm video, 3gb ram and 500gb WD hard drive.

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images!  Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

When I connect my Macbook Pro to my Dell DLP projector, either via cable or wirelessly, I just see a dark screen with the mouse and mouse trails only, can any one help?

jpmarkques post is a good start point, after folling his directions, you can try detect displays. Also try different rsolution and refresh rates.
Most of the projectors I have used support a 1024X768 res.
Youcan also try a pram reset if it still does not detect.
Leave theproctor connected and powered up, power down the MBP.
Power back up the MBP and hold the following keys before you hear the start up chime:
Option, command, P,R (no commas) continue to hold these keys till you hear the start up chime 2 times.

  • I tried to update the software of my iphone 3gs while charging with my Macbook Pro. While the phone was restarting after installation, in the setting up my phone menu, it stops midway with a message in itunes on the laptop that there is no simcard.

I tried to update the software of my iphone 3gs while charging with my Macbook Pro. While the phone was restarting after installation, in the setting up my phone menu, it stops midway with a message in itunes on the laptop that there is no simcard.

Then put a SIM in. You cannot activate an iPhone without a compatible Sim.
If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken the update restore the lock.

    Hello, eco1.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like you are wanting to move your iTunes media folder to an external drive and have iTunes this folder from this location.  If this is the case then I would recommend taking a look at the article below.

  • MacBook Pro just shut off, disk utility gives a strange report, please help

My MacBook Pro just turned off for no reason. I started it back up and in the Finder under devices to the left where it usually says "My Name"'s MacBook Pro, it now has a (2) beside it. I repaired permissions and got the following report:Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
    Reading permissions database.
Reading the permissions database can take several minutes.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad" has been…
Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/setregion" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Versi…
    Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Printers/IOMs/LPRIOM.plugin/Contents/Ma…
Group differs on "private/etc/cups", should be 0, group is 26.
Permissions differ on "private/var/spool/cups/cache/rss", should be drwxr-xr…
All of the Warnings end with "and will not be repaired".
Does anyone have any idea what this might mean?
Also, when I started it back up, the hard drive made the same sound as when I insert a CD or DVD into the computer.

    the DU warnings are harmless.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
you could have a hardware problem with your drive though.
verify the disk (not permissions) using disk utility and if it reports any errors, boot from the leopard install DVD and repair the drive using disk utility there.
you can change the name of the computer and get rid of (2) in system preferences->sharing.
