My macbook pro keeps flashing green lines across the screen then freezing, can anyone help?

Back in December my macbook started doing this thing quite regularly where it would flash black or green lines all across the screen, for maybe half a second, then the screen would freeze, so I would power it down manually then back on again. I took it into a store and paid a lot of money for them to "fix" it, but when I got it back it was still doing it. I just recently took it in to a different store and the guy said he couldn't reproduce the problem, but replaced the RAM and gave it back to me. Within a day of having it back the same thing happened, twice. At this point I'm not sure what to do, the money I spent on "fixing" it could almost have bought me a new one. The most recent time I shut it off, when it was turning back on it stopped on the grey screen with the apple and started making a continuous beeping sound, which I took a video of. Does anybody know why any of this is happening??

Hi Were you using the apple store for the repairs you had done? As to the point of taking in to a store to have it repaired and getting it back with the same problem. It should have been taken back to the same store as they have to stand behind what they do. You do not say what they repaired. The store replacing ram without knowing what the problem is ,is questionable. If you are going to change ram for the original apple installed ram, you need to make sure it is compatible with your MBP. One of the best sources for this is  Macsales.com. As to the Beeping sounds here is a link on it. You do not say if this is one continuing beep or more than one repeating itself.http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202768

  • Has anyone else has seen this problem with their iPod touch 5th Generation with iOS 7.0.4. My screen started making flashing white lines across the screen, then went dim, then pixeled with purples

The ipod will show flashing white lines across the screen, going down, it then does somthing where the screen will dim down but its not like when the backlight goes on and its about to lock. It dims the background of your ipod and the icons and letters kind of all look defined. Then the ipod gets all pixelized and it has big boxes on pixels and its all differnt colors like purples and greens, red, etc. then it turns right off and restarts itself less than 5 seconds later. These things happen really fast but when it does it's really weird. It first happened 3 times in a row, Its still continuing to happen but i can manually turn off my ipod by holding the lock button down and not even 30 seconds later it's like its possessed and it turns on by itself. I talked to somone on appel and they told me to back it up and restore it. I restored it and as soon as the process ended and tuirned on like a brand new ipod and like clockwork the glitch happened instantly. It did it a couple of times throughout the night and i kept having to watch it so i can keep turning it off manually because it continues to turn on by itself. I talked to 3 different people on Apple Support and they couldnt even find an answer for me. It's so weird.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • HT201177 MY MACBOOK PRO IS SHOWN GREEN LINE IN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN

MY MACBOOK PRO IS SHOWN GREEN LINE IN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN

It is probably a display or display connector issue. To check this, take a screenshot of the display by pressing Command, Shift and 3 keys. Then, open the screenshot created in Desktop, and see if the line appears. If not, it is a display issue.
If you have not got a MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can repair this yourself. You just need to look for the display connector of your MacBook Pro model in the Internet and install it, and if this does not work, you have to replace the whole display.
However, if you do not know a lot about computers or your Mac is in warranty, you should take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired

A few months back I Dropped my iPhone 4 and I cracked my screen and now i cant unlock my phone due to touch screen not working plus there are blurred lines across the screen and I can't see anything that it displays.
Now when I try too connect my iPhone 4 to iTunes on my computer at home an error message comes up saying that I have to unlock my iPhone 4 for it to communicate to my device.
But the problem is that I can't unlock my iPhone 4 because I'm unable to see the key pad and my touch screen no longer responds when I touch it.
I just want to reset my iPhone 4 back to its Factory Settings & start all over from the beginning.
How can I unlock my iPhone 4 with iTunes on my computer or any other option you suggest me trying.
    Thank you in advance,

If you have had a "local guy "repair your iphone you will not get any support from Apple for warranty OR post warranty
If Verizon return it to Apple it wil not be handled by Apple
If Verizon also use unauthorised repairers you may be lucky
(Apple do not sell parts to local guys or anyone else )

  • Why do I have green lines across the screen

This morning hubby turned on iPad and it has green lines through the screen. It is also circling the apps. Could this be a pixel problem.

There is no need to bang or drop the iPad!!  Read this solution.  Read the whole thing.
If your iPad is still under warranty, I have heard that Apple will simply exchange it for you.  That is not necessarily an ideal option, as many people do not want to have to bother with transfering all of their files to a brand new device.
My problem, however, was that my iPad was no longer under warranty when this occurred.  I was so sad, because the warranty is supposed to be for a year.  My mother bought it for me as a gift last Christmas, so it had not even been out of the box for a whole year when this happened.  Nevertheless, since my mother bought it in October, the warranty had *just* expired, since they go technically by the purchase date.
Apple offered to fix it for me for $300!!!!  A ridiculous price for a loose wire inside.  I simply am not in a position to spend that kind of money, and if I was, why not get a new device at that price (NON-Apple!).  I was very upset, but I didn't give up on it.  I scoured the Internet for an affordable solution, I found one, and it worked!!
The problem is caused by a loose cable on the inside, simple as that (can you imagine they ask $300 for the fix!!  After all I have invested in the App store, and buying the Apple keyboard to boot!!!).
The fix I found is simple, I did it, and it worked for me.  It is the same repair a professional would do in this situation.
The following video demonstrates how to open your iPad.  Warning!  This is a do-at-your-own-risk solution!  But I found it quite easy.  Watch the video (which actually demonstrates the entire process of replacing the screen),
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG5HhdeP_VY
Obviously, for our issue, you will not remove your screen.  Simply disconnect the two cables as shown in the video, and reconnect them!!  Simple as that!  Then just reassemble it according to the video.
I purchased the prying tool and screw driver and latches from sw-box.com -- for under $20.  I think it comes from Hong Kong, but it only took 8 days to get to me in TX, USA.
I hope this helps someone else.

  • Why does my MacBook pro keep beeping 3 times. The screen is frozen.

Like my MacBook Pro keeps beeping 3 times and pausing for 2 seconds. The screen is frozen.  How do I fix this and what is going on?

That is  a RAM issue, do you have any spare ram you can swap to confirm?  Possible causes:
    a ram module going bad
    installation of incompatible ram
your ram may have become dislodged
    I would suggest:
    - removing all ram from your MBP, and reinstall it to see if that helps.
    - if you recently installed new ram, remove it, then restart the computer with  the old ram to see if this helps.

  • Macbook Pro 2014 (16gb ram) running very slow in excel.  Can anyone help?

My Macbook Pro 2014 is running extremely slow in Mac Excel 2011.  I just recently made the purchase (Last week) to upgrade from my Macbook Pro 2013.  The upgrade was for work as I handle large spreadsheets in my new role.  It would take some time to load before, and I was told it was because I only had 4GB of RAM.  Now, I have 16 GB of RAM and it runs slower than before.  Can anyone assist me with a solution?

  • My Mac Os X screen has started with lines across the screen, then it got worst more than half of the screen is not responding right. Please help.

Please reply as soon as you can.

You can run Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode. It may point out a hardware failure but to be honest I think you need to take the machine in for some professional diagnostics. It's possible the graphics card is failing.

  • HT1430 Ipod touch (5th generation) w/ lines across the screen - now dead.

My son's Ipod touch (5th generation) had lines across the screen. I turned it off using the home + on/off button reset, but the apple never came back on. Now it seems to be dead. Not dropped, not completely drained, no water damage. Just dead. Any ideas?
I have also tried plugging it into my Macbook Pro, and iTunes does not find it.
    ITunes is up to date.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Issues with lines across the screen, as well as freezing

Issues with lines across the screen, as well as freezing
    Hello all
Got an iMac since January 2008 and I do like it a lot, even though it has some issues:
-- It displays (quite often) lines partially across the screen
-- Lines appear as well when opening applications or when menus come up
-- The system freezes more than I like to admit (more than my Windows/Ubuntu box)
I don't know if the freezing has to do with the lines that are shown on my screen. But I assume that both issues relate to some video card problem. I can't be sure - but that's what I assume from living with this issue day to day.
The line on the desktop (most of the time it is there before login) I can always get rid of by changing the display resolution to something else and then changing it back. Normally the line is gone, or, reappears on a different spot on the desktop. But repeating the procedure removes the line.
However, this does not mean that the lines are not showing up again when launching apps or displaying menus!
And since those lines appear to happen randomly, I think it's safe to assume that we're not talking dead pixels here, either...
    About the freezing:
My iMac freezes sometimes when I move the mouse around, when switching desktops using "spaces" or when the zoom function of the Dock kicks in. Sometimes the screen goes completely black, sometimes completely white. The mouse, however, always works. But the system requires a reboot.
Again, this happens too often to feel comfy about it.
With my little knowledge of Mac troubleshooting I assume that there's something wrong with the ATI card that's built into my Mac. On the other hand, some people say that they started getting similar issues after updating their OS to Leopard. Again other people say that such issues stem from an ATI revision that is too old and the Mac should get a new ATI card. And how would that work? Isn't that an "all-in-one" machine with everything soldered onto the mainboard?
So, any help in this matter is greatly appreciated...
    Cheers,
    Rainer

Here are a few screen photos I've taken (not screenshots, as the lines are not visible when taking screenshots. I used my digicam to snap those...).
Here's the link to those screen photos displaying some of the many lines I keep having:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/rainer.rohde/NewAlbum62508115AM
Needless to say, as I typed this message here, I had a nice line going across my Safari window..

  • My MacPro 10.6.8 has a thin green line on the screen.

My MacPro is just over a year old now and I have a thin green line on the screen. I hooked it up to my TV and on the second window (the TV) the green line wasn't there. Whats the issue? How do I fix it?

From what you are saying, sounds like a line of pixels out on the display.
Did the TV use the same connector on the computer? If not, swap the display with the TV. If you still have the line, it is one of the items that you swapped across.
Have you tried connecting the display to another computer? If so, is the line still there?
What kind of display is it? Can you swap the data cable and try a different cable, could be a cable issue.
Any adapters in use? If so, try swapping those to rule them out as a problem.

  • How do I fix lines across the screen while on web pages?

I am getting lines across the screen on my Mac Book Pro.  This is while I am on a web page.  How do I fix this?

Those don't look like classic signs of hardware issues.
Of greater concern, I notice that you have both Trend Micro and MacKeeper installed. It's generally a bad idea to have two different anti-virus programs installed at the same time, as any active scanning each does can conflict with the other.
MacKeeper is very bad software, made by unethical developers in Russia. You should uninstall it immediately. See:
    http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malware/
As for Trend Micro, note that its detection of Mac malware is not particularly good. See:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/mac-anti-virus-testing-01-2013/
I would recommend uninstalling it as well. You should find an uninstaller in the Trend Micro folder in your Applications folder. If uninstalling all your anti-virus software makes you nervous, see my Mac Malware Guide. If you decide to install some other anti-virus software, use one recommended by that guide.
Back to the line problem, if uninstalling those programs doesn't help, try some browser other than Chrome (like Safari). Do you see the same problem there, or is it only happening with Chrome?

It looks like you may need a mini-displayport to Displayport cable. You can also try holding the option key while clicking on "scaled" to see if the option you need comes up.

  • Dropped my iPhone 4s and now there are lines across the screen?! Help!

    Hey everyone!
So, I have recently dropped my iPhone 4S and now there are all these blue vertical lines across the screen, which occasionally change colour also.
I am still able to receive messages and calls, and siri still works, it's simply that I can't see a single thing I am doing- which is very difficult!
I was wondering if this is an issue that needs to be fixed at an Apple store- and if so, how much it would cost? Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
N.B: I've tried to reset it, it doesn't work. I have also tried to restore the iPhone, but iTunes won't let me do this as I have to have the 'find my iPhone' app turned off, which I cannot do because I can't see anything I'm doing!
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions,
    Kirstoodles.

Yes. It's broken. A replacement will cost you $199.
Or if I would be able to fix it myself somehow.
The iPhone is not user servicable. Apple does not sell parts for the iPhone. any parts you could get are either stolen, counterfeit, or salvaged.  Atempting to fix it yourself will render it unsupportable and forfeit your right to service from Apple, including an out of warranty replacement.
