My Macbook Pro keeps restarting out of the blue
It's been doing it for a couple of weeks already. As far as I can tell, its very random. It happens at any time, ive tried to see if its a specific program, but it restarts at random times. I did an SMC reset and that didn't do anything. Lastly, i wiped my hard drive and restored my laptop to brand new and 10 minutes into running a fresh install (without any of my data transfered back in yet) it did it again.. Anyone got any ideas??
Ps. the hard drive is only 6 months old, and when the old one started going bad, it didn't present this type of problem.
Oh, well that's a different story - you may have the dreaded 2010 model failing NVIDIA card - see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.
You should be able to get a free logic board replacement to fix the issue. Use the "Contact" link on the site that I provided and get the ball rolling!
Good luck,
Clinton

Macbook Pro keeps restarting when watching videos online
My Mid 2011 13in, 500GB HD, 16GB Ram Macbook Pro keeps restarting whenever I'm watching videos online be it Youtube, or Xfinity or anyother video site. Browsing online works fine, nothing happens. I also watched a movie I had on my harddrive and that worked fine as well. The problem is with online video. I even tried it on both Chrome and Safari and I still get the same result. This started about 3 days ago now my Macbook restarts around 8-10 times a day. It has become a constant hassle that I had no issues with before. After it restarts it leaves a Kernel Panic Report reading: Can anyone help me figure out what the problem might be? Please and thank you.

The panic log indicates a hardware fault, probably in the mass-storage subsystem.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair

My macbook pro keeps blacking out
My 13" macbook pro keeps blacking out when I'm using it and the only thing on my screen is the cursor, could you please tell me how to resolve this problem?
Go step by step and test.
1. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own"
2. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
3. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13977

What is application memory and why does my macbook pro keep running out of it?
what is application memory and why does my macbook pro keep running out of it?
There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
Not enough memory for your usage pattern
Please note that if the cause is a memory leak, installing more memory will not help. That's likely if you already have more than 4 GB of memory. Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
These instructions are for OS X 10.9 and later. Some details may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, reset the printing system. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
"Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details. -

MacBook Pro keeps restarting even after going to the Apple Store
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" and it's been really acting up lately. It began randomly going black with the keyboard still lit up and then rebooted itself without warning. When I updated to Mavericks, it started happening multiple times a day. I did a virus scan, repaired the Disk Permissions, basically tried every troubleshooting method I could on my own. Nothing would help it so I finally took it to the Apple Store and they decided I should wipe everything off my hard drive, do a clean install of Mavericks and then restore my files and settings from Time Machine. They did everything (except Time Machine) for me and it seemed to fix the problem at first. My laptop was even much faster. But then it started happening maybe once every one or two days, and now it's randomly restarted 8 times since last night. It’s so frustrating. I’ve noticed that it often restarts when I’m using iMessage. When it restarts and my iPhone is plugged in, it always asks, sometimes even twice, if the phone should trust the computer…it’s like doesn’t even recognize the device when starting up. There are also some other problems with my laptop - my DVD drive spits out everything I put into it and my battery needs to be serviced/replaced. Do you think it could have to do with the battery, even though this usually happens when the laptop is plugged in? There were no problems with my hard drive at the Apple Store and they ignored that my battery had to be serviced, so maybe that’s not it. What could the problem possibly be? Let me know what other information I have to provide in order to figure it out. Please help! Thank you so much.
Thank you for your help everyone
So Friday night I took my laptop back to the Apple Store. They noted that my battery was on its way out, but they didn’t think that was the problem, so they kept it over the weekend to run diagnostics. Upon further investigation, they decided that the battery WAS the problem causing the restarts, so I had them replace it…but it’s still restarting! I got the computer back yesterday evening and it’s already happened 8 times. It just randomly reboots out of the blue without any warning. I can’t imagine what else the problem could be. I was wondering if maybe it is just a problem with Mavericks since the operating system is new and it seems to be happening to quite a few people. I tried to take note of what I suspected might be causing it - it often crashes when using iMessage, for example, so I tried keeping that application closed, but it didn't stop the rebooting.
Here is my most recent report, if that helps at all. I'm desperate to have this problem fixed so any help/insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Macbook Pro Keeps Restarting Itself and then totally crashed
Dear all.
I am using Macbook Pro 13-inch (i7 2.9 Ghz, 8 GB DDR3, 750 GB) with OS X Maverick (10.9.4).
For the last few months, my Macbook Pro kept restarting itself and I usually ignored this issue until yesterday, my MBP fail to boot up, only display the grey apple logo and rolling icon below for almost 30 mins.
I tried the safe mode and reset NVRAM method and it still fail to boot up and sometimes a black text appears (aka kernel panic).
Then i took my macbook pro to the nearest Apple service provider and the technician said that it was probably due to the 750 GB Hard Disk since the HD itself is a faulty product, therefore we can't find any 750 GB HD nowadays. So he recommended me to replace my current HD with a new HD. I took his advice and I replaced it with 1 TB Toshiba HD. And then the technician reformat my MBP and installed the OS X Maverick. My Macbook pro able to boot up now.
However the next day I still find my MBP keeps restarting itself (until now) and take note that I didn't install any new softwares, I only updated the available updates in Apps Store for the OS, iBooks, and iTunes.
Can anyone recommend me what to do? Is this a Hardware problem or software problem?
I'm thinking to switch back to OS Lion to see whether this is mainly due to OS Maverick.
Thank you.Unfortunately yes. Since the computer is unable to boot up, that part of the software starts BEFORE the OS would. Last time I had this problem, it turned out to be a faulty GPU (soldered to the logic board) and i needed to replace the logic board. If you wanted to, you could indeed back up your personal data (you should ANYWAY, no matter what you do) and you could try to do a fresh install, but I'm fairly confident you are experiencing either faulty ram, or a faulty logic board.

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro Keeps Restarting due to Kernel Panic. Ideas for how to fix?
So my Mid 2010 Macbook Pro keeps randomly restarting, and giving me a screen that says something like "your computer restarted due to a problem."
Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.
Here's the issue report:

Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.

17inch macbook pro keeps restarting!
Hi,
I have just got my work macbook pro(late 2009) back from the Apple genius' after taking it in to repair the screen. It now won't shut down properly.
If I go to the Apple menu in the top left corner and select shut down, it shuts down but restarts. This also happens when I press the power button and select shut down.
If I hold my finger down on the power button it shuts down and doesn't start back up again but as soon as I connect the macbook to the power cable, it's boots up again without me touching a button.
This has only started happening since I got it back from Apple this morning.
I have spent a good 45 minutes on the phone to Apple trying to fix it and they are now sending someone out to collect the macbook to take it for repair on Monday. They say it will take up to 10 working days for to be repaired depending on the fault but I can't afford to lose it for this long as it's a work laptop.
Does anyone else have any other solutions? I have held down various combinations of keys whilst restarting, had it start in safe mode etc. Still won't do it.
HELP!!!!!!!!
Message was edited by: sawpawI am having the same problem on a Mac Pro Quad i7 2.66. It was acting a little strange and then I tried to shut it down it looks like it's going to and then would just restart its self.
Finally I got it to shut down somehow, I can't remember it was 2AM, and reset the PRAM and now it's working again.
Never had this happen before.
Any ideas???? Not really convinced that the PRAM fixed it. It's been acting strange ever since I updated FCP to the latest 7.xxx version. -
13" MacBook Pro Keeps getting kicked off the Internet
My 2009 13" Macbook Pro keeps disconnecting from the internet somehow. It happens every once in a while when I'm browsing through the internet.
Whenever I try clicking to another page, all of a sudden Safari says it cannot connect to the server. At first I was begining to think that the issue was with Safari but I then found out it was also happening with Firefox. The only way that I could connect to the internet again is if I literally close my Macbook and wait a few moments before opening it again. For some reason my laptop is the only one in this house having the issue, my sister's 2011 13" Macbook Pro works just fine and doesn't have this issue. So I know it can't be a problem with the router. Does anyone here have suggestions???
I am really annoyed with this issue!Check that your time and date are current in System Preference and being updated for your location.
Your likely being dropped by your router as your DHCP lease is expiring because your date and time are off.

Why does the sound on my 2011 MacBook Pro keep dropping out?
Over the past couple of days the sound drops out on my 2011 MacBook Pro. It start about 30 minutes after I've switched on the computer and then keeps on happening every 3-4 seconds. What could be the problem?
I've got a 13" MacBook Pro early 2011, 2.3 GHz.Hi A,
You are still covered under the Apple warranty. I would contact AppleCare or make an appointment at a "genius" bar. -
The internet on my macbook pro keep cutting out in OS 10.8..What to do?
Hello,
I purchased a new macbook pro about in early September and ever since I started using it in my home, the internet cuts out constantly. I was using a aiport to connect wirelessly and then swithced to a router provided by my internet company which is Time Warner. I have the fastest package they sell but nothing seems to help. The internet cuts out after about 5-10 minutes everyt time I use the internet and download speeds are nowhere near what they should be for the package I have.
I'm using the newest OS (10.8.2).
Any help is very much appreciated!
Thank youHopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Highlight Internal Speakers
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
3. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
4. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
Audio Devices window
Side Bar
Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device". -
MacBook Pro keeps restarting by itself
So occasionally my MacBook Pro (13 inch model) likes to restart itself and go to the grey screen that says (your MacBook restarted because of a problem). I have no idea what's causing it. The hard drive is brand new (replaced it yesterday because the store that sold me the Mac said it was corrupted). When I pull up the summary of the report this is what I get:

Any suggestions as to what the issue would be would be very appreciated.1. Remove the "Webroot" product by following the instructions on this page. If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different.
Back up all data before making any changes.
2. If there's no change, see below.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -

Thunderbolt Bus:What happens when you install the original RAM?
A 2009 15" model identifier 5.3 MBP will accept RAM with the following specifications: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
You have installed RAM with these specifications; DDR3, 1333 MHz. Should you install with the correct specifications, the MBP will probably operate correctly.
The best sources of Man compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
