My Macbook Pro (mid 2012) will not go to sleep

Hi - looking forward to your help!
My Macbook Pro simply will not go to sleep - not by shutting the lid or pressing the sleep button in the Apple dropdown.
There are no random apps that are preventing it from sleeping - I have checked after looking at a blog and using "terminal".
The poor thing is getting really tired and bad tempered, so your help will be appreciated!
Many thanks!

Hope info from this article is helpful.

  • My Macbook Pro (mid 2007) will not go to sleep.

When I close the lid, select sleep from the  menu, or push the power button, and select "sleep" my MBP will not go to sleep as it ussually does.  It has been doing this since I performed the last set of software updates (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53) about a week ago.
I need help... this is annoying

This is for a Mac that won't sleep.
Here is Apple's  KB article HT1776 with their tips.
    Mine follow;
USB devices and hubs often cause Macs to not sleep or wake quickly from sleep (notably HP printers and scanners, HP all in ones, and Cannon scanners). Disconnect all USB except for keyboard and mouse and try. If it sleeps, add one back at a time testing after each one to find the culprit.
If you've set your Mac to receive faxes, it may not be able to sleep. It might also have a damaged preferences file. If you use your Mac for faxing, open System Preferences. click Print & Fax, click the Faxing tab, and uncheck the Receive Faxes On This Computer box.
If that doesn't work or you've never faxed on your Mac, go to Finder/Hard Drive /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and com..apple.AutoWake.plist files (if your Mac asks, type your admin. password). If the latter file isn't present in the folder, go to user name(probably your name)/Library/Preferences, delete the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file, and reboot your Mac.
Some have resolved sleep issue by downloading the Combo update, from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update  disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse,Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try
    USER TIPS……..
Check in System Preferences > Energy Saver is "Wake for network access" checked? If so, uncheck it.
One user reported, " I couldn't make my macbook pro to go to sleep because I had my wireless headphone receiver still plugged in. I unplugged it and then it went to sleep."
Also, if you have an External Western Digital (WD) hard drive and have installed  WDDMService and WDSmartWareD on your Mac, it may not sleep. Fix is to un-install those....you don't need them to use the drive.
"I have had this problem with my IMac G5. It is surprisingly irritating. LaCie's Silverkeeper backup software was the cause. By default it gave itself permission to wake up the computer to check if a backup was needed. Do you have this or a similar program installed which has scheduled activities including wake-up permissions as an option?"
One provided this link, xlr8yourmac.com, to a member, which addresses failure of deep sleep with some users that updated and added new FireWire and USB card.
Also, here is Apple KB article TA2469 about PCI cards and sleep.
After few days of messing around I found out that I had desktop background (wallpaper) set to change every 1 minute. After unchecking "Change picture..." in system preferences (under Desktop/Screen saver), my powerbook went to sleep all by itself.
"I  have a Canon printer(shared) and my imac would not sleep. I opened up printer/fax in system prefs and noticed it said the printer was in use when it was off. Opened up the printer queue and noticed about 7 pending documents. Deleted them all and now it sleeps. Check the printer queue!"
One user has had success, after trying all these tips, using an App. called PleaseSleep. I've never used it though.
    Good Luck! 

  • MacBook Pro mid 2012 will NOT load any Internet page

Hey guys, my MacBook Pro won't load any web pages. It's connected to my wifi and I've tried everything I can find on the Internet (on my phone) to fix this issue. Every other device I have connects just fine. The web page no matter what it is loads up about 1/10 the way and stops completely. After several minutes it will tell me "Safari can't open the page because the server where this page is located isn't responding. I've done network diagnostics and it said "Your Internet connection appears to working correctly." Anyone have any idea how to solve this? It's been going on for about a week and I need my laptop for class. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

I can't even reinstall the OS X because my computer cannot connect to apple to verify I'm aloud to reinstall it. This is very frustrating someone please help.

    Hi there,

Keep in mind i have had this computer for only 5 days.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi, cubingcouple.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your MacBook is not working with your external display. display shows a blank screen.  Here is the best troubleshooting resource to go through when experiencing these symptoms.

  • My MacBook Pro (early 2011) will not go to sleep

Very recently my MacBook Pro (early 2011) suddenly stopped going to sleep whenever I shut it or even when I manually put it to sleep. I went to my schools help desk and they suggested restoring the computer to factory settings. I did this, reinstalled Mountain Lion and the problem seemed fixed. Then I backed up my files and again the computer would not sleep. I put the computer in safe mode and the computer would fall asleep. Any ideas what this might be?

There is no output from that command line?   Maybe the pid changed.
I'll repeat what I am trying to find out...
    1. You do a pmset -g on the terminal.
    2. The output from that pmset should have a line that says "sleep 0 (imposed by n)" where n is some number.
    3. The ps ax | grep n is supposed to display what the process associated with n is.
It's the output from step 3 that should indicate what is causing you not to sleep.
But speaking of sleep, that's where I am going.

  • Macbook pro mid 2012 is not recognizing I tb internal HDD

I recently purchased a mid-2012 15'' macbook pro, 2.3 ghz, 500 gb HDD, 4 gb RAM. I took it into a service last weekend to have it upgraded to 8 gb RAM, 250 GB SSD Samsung, and a 1 TB HDD HITACHI 5400 rpm. Everything was fine until yesterday when suddenly the computer stopped recognizing the I tb HDD. You can see it in disk utility but the disk drive is just shaded gray. This morning I noticed that when I start the computer with only the battery it doesnt recongize the HDDD but when the charger is plugged in and start the computer the disk is recongized but a window pops up saying that I can access the files that are on the disk but no changes can be made and nothing can be saved onto the disk.  It also says the disk needs to be reformatted as soon as possible. Could this be the SATA cable problem? Or a power shortage? Or something with the motherboard?

    KazTav wrote:
Apple could have disabled what option?
Replacing the Superdrive with a hard drive, that's not a factory configuration.
That it doesn't work on battery and only on power is a obvious sign it's drawing too much current and the Mac will tend to disable things that are.

  • Macbook Pro mid 2009 will not boot unless SMC is reset (macbookpro5,5)

    Hello!
I have a mid-2009 Macbook Pro (macbookpro5,5) and I've had this weird issue for like a month, and I ran out of ideas.
So my problem is: whenever I turn on my mbp (either on OS X or Windows 7) it will go to sleep (on OS X after it shows the login screen and on Windows when it's loading) and when it wakes up, *it goes to sleep again*!
I kinda panicked back then because I couldn't get to boot the machine for all what was worth, but then I tried resetting the SMC and voila! it booted; and I thought that was it, but no, it wasn't: *I have to reset the SMC everytime I turn on the mbp*, or else the same sleeping loop will happen again and again.
This happened after installing the first March Update that Apple released (which misteriously only addressed iTunes issues - supposedly) on OS X. I already tried looking for SMC or EFI updates (just in case) and I already have the current versions (just EFI, SMC updates were never released for this mbp) so now I have no clue on what to do...
And what really puzzles me is that I disabled sleep when closing the lid on Windows 7, and it worked fine, but after this issue, it just goes to sleep, even when I see the closing the lid option on "do nothing", it's just weird.
Does anybody had some sort of trouble like that?? or anyone has some hints that may help me??

Well, it seems that apple fixed this issue in the 10.6.7 update. I kinda wish there was a little more documentation about the patches released and what files they modify, since no update was released to the SMC, I have no idea why it had to modify it. Anyway, thanks for the help!

  • Help! My MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) will not load!

My MacBook Pro will turn on and off. When I turn it on, I hear the chime and the fan, but all I see is the Apple logo with the loading circle. It stays on that screen forever and sometimes a "no symbol" (circle with line through it) will come up. It just started doing this one day. I opened my computer after it was asleep, and my log in box never popped up for me to type my password in. So I turned it off and this problem started when I turned it on. what is wrong and is there anything I can do to fix it?

  • My MacBook Pro mid-2009 will not restart after a failed repair attempt in Disk Utility

After attempting to repair my MacBook Pro in Disk Utility (Ctrl-R recovery mode), I tried rebooting with no success.  Then I tried to re-boot in Safe Mode with the same result - basically, the progress bar goes to about halfway and then the computer shuts down.  Then, I tried leaving it overnight with no activity and trying to re-boot in the morning.  Still had the same result.
I would just re-install Mountain Lion, but I have some recent pictures and videos that aren't backed up yet.
Any ideas on how to reboot (and/or how to back up my files without having to start up my computer)?

You can install OS X on a external powered drive and boot the computer from it, then access your user files folders for recovery then erase and install from the Internet Recovery (command option r) or the 10.6 install disks, then upgrade again in AppStore, then restore your files.
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive

  • My Macbook Pro mid 2012 is not reading/connecting to my (working)external hard disk(also not showing in disk utility)

I connected my 500GB Storjet external hard drive to my mac(Mountain Lion) http://in.transcend-info.com/products/Catlist.asp?modno=325 but it is not connecting to it. Disk Utility is also not showing it. and the hard disk is working... My PS3, My Sony TV and my other laptop(win7) is detecting it... Also whenever it gets connected a blue light blinks, but It doesnt for mac. I have tried reformatting to both FAT32 and NTFS... Please help..
Also I sorta screwed my Mac so I had to do the internet recovery thing and only after that such problems occured, it was working fine before. So it installed Lion first and then Mountain Lion. It wasn't working on any of the OS.

Power down the Mac, Full power off. Connect the drive using the Y cable and then turn the Mac back on.
If it still doesn't show in at least Disk Utility then start checking your USB ports to see if both are working properly. Just plug in a USB thumb drive and that should show in both Finder and Disk Utility. If one of the ports isn't seeing the thumb drive then that port is bad and the system needs to be services by Apple.

  • Problem with bluetooth connection between iPhone 5s iOS 8.1.2 and MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) Yosemite 10.10.1

After the upgrade to iOS 8.1.2 in iPhone 5s and OS X 10.1.1 Yosemite (MacBook Pro Mid 2012) can not connect my iPhone 5s to the MacBook, the iPhone tells me: "The MacBook is incompatible" or the message "Connection Error, Make sure the Mac is turned on and is within range" even the iPhone being close to the Mac. Otherwise with the updated iPad 2 (iOS 8.1.2) is connected via bluetooth to the MacBook without any problems, Even the iPad 2 does not detect the iPhone bluetooth.
    Help me please

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722
If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458

  • HT204384 SD Card will not mount on Macbook Pro Mid 2012 (non-retina), tried everything

I am trying to use a PNY 4GB SD Card on my Macbook Pro Mid-2012 (non-retina), but I cannot get it to mount or for the Macbook to even see it's there.  I read some people had success slightly pulling it out, pushing it in faster, cleaning the port, etc. which I have tried all of these, but to no avail.
    Anybody have an idea?
    Thanks,
    -Justin B.

Had problems reading SD cards after a Mountain Lion update. Try this XQuartz solution that fixed this for me. I'm using a 13" MBP mid-2012. All you have to do is install this programme and re-insert your SD card.
XQuartz no longer comes with new Macbooks, only X11.
See this support page from Apple on where you can download XQuartz.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5293?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
You can download Xquartz directly from here:
    http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/
This should be the most up to date version. If not check for updates once you have downloaded it.
Simply re-insert your SD card and voila!

  • My iPad 3 is not charging on my macbook pro mid-2012. It was working yesterday and it is not working now, and I'm trying to transfer files between them. How do I charge my iPad with my macbook without having to be a completely new computer?

I am trying to transfer files between my ipad 3 and my macbook pro mid-2012 and they will just not connect. I connected them yesterday and it worked fine. And i can not air drop these files into my ipad it has to be done through itunes. And i can not afford to buy a new computer. How do i get these two to connect without having to buy a completely new computer?

Computer USB ports, regardless of the computer maker, have a relatively low power output and thus are not good chargers. They will charge but it takes a long time. You should be charging your iPad from wall power, or a more powerful source like an in-car charger.
Buying another computer will not change that.

  • MacBook Pro Mid 2012 not starting up after Yosemite Update

I'm using a MacBook Pro mid 2012 model , enrolled into Yosemite Public Beta Program ...
After the official public launch , app store suggested that i rather update from beta 5 to beta 6 , as downloading extra 5 gig of OS data seemed unnecessary for me , I just updated from the app store.
Post the update , after shutting down my MacBook , I tried starting it up after 8 hours , it failed to respond to any of my prompts .
    Keyboard not responding
    Power Button not responding
Li-Po Battery indicator alone works ,
When plugged MagSafe , it indicates charging .
The Sleep Indicator (in the front - that of hard disk drive ) blinks occasionally.
Later, when i tried powering up with MagSafe , It booted luckily , after some 20 hours of work , i shut the system down ,
Again when i tried booting up  , it failed .
The problem persists since 3 days.
I tried booting up in Safe Mode - No result
Tried Verbose Booting up - No result
Cleared NV RAM - No result
Cleared SMC as Apple instructed for Intel Based MacBooks - No result.
Removed Battery and kept aside for a while , After an hour tried powering up , It booted up , Went till Apple Logo , The loading bar was some 45%
Then it started to go down with a black screen ,
    It never starts up again.
After regular intervals of removing and installing battery , it starts up to white screen and goes off.
I am really worried and desperate now.
I am not sure whether my HDD is dead or my Battery is dead  or my Logic board is dead or my Yosemite Install was not right ?
After hours of online research , nothing seems to be helpful .
People at Apple Care (Premium ReSeller , India) are so irresponsible in attending the issue ,
They say its helpless without even doing some basic troubleshoot.
Where would it have went wrong and What am i supposed to do now ?
    PLEASE HELP !!

    darkrider92,
I have the same model MacBook Pro as the one that you got from your mom. Were you able to install the 10.6.8 update successfully onto the factory drive? Were you using the factory RAM when you tried to install the 10.6.8 update on the SSD?
Have you checked  the Web site of the SSD’s manufacturer, to see if there’s a firmware update available for the SSD?
You can download the 10.6.8 update outside of Software Update from Apple here; in case you need to try to install this update several times, running it from your local disk would be more convenient than waiting for it to download again.

  • Will OS Yosemite be on Macbook Pro Mid 2012?

Will the OS Yosemite update be free? and will it be on my brand new recently purchased Macbook Pro Mid 2012?

Yosemite will be free as a few people mentioned.
You can sign up for their beta testing program and try it right now..if you're one of the million people that sign up.
But yes, it will be free and will run on your machine for sure.
