My macbook pro restart automatically
who can help on this issue?
More information on what you were doing when it restarts would help, or is it random?
Try booting into the Safe Mode. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Macbook Pro Restarts spontaneously.
Hello,
A few weeks back i installed an SSD Disk (Samsung EVO 250 GB) in my mac pro and transfered everything with
carbon copy cloner, that went well and also works perfectly.
After a while my macbook pro restarts spontaniously, and this happens more and more.
So after an few topic's, and tens of solution's i decided to install Mavericks again, so i transfered
all my important files to an external hdd and installed again true the recovery partition (cmd-r).
Yesterday, 1 day after clean-install, the macbook restarts again spontaneously... At this moment
the only installed thing was mavericks, no programs or drivers !!
So, who can help me ? I can give you the error-reports from the last 4 re-starts, maybe that someone
on this forum can tell how this is possible ? Can it bee the SSD disk ?
The error log's:

com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireFamily 4.5.5You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may have a logic-board defect covered by this recall.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present. However, according to reports, some units may pass the test, and yet still be deemed eligible for repair under the program. Your experience may vary.
Print the first page of the panic report, if any, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued on February 24, 2011, so the replacement program has almost ended. Some units may have been sold after that date by Apple as refurbished, or by resellers as new, and they should still be covered.
Some owners report that their unit was repaired under the program after the deadline had passed. Others report that the repair was covered by the extended warranty from a credit-card issuer. Again, your experience may vary.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching.
If you're dissatisfied with Apple's response, please keep in mind that no one here represents the company or can help with customer-service issues.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) MacBook Pro Restarts: How have people fared in getting apple to fix this?
So, I have had trouble with my mid-2010 MacBook Pro restarting because of a problem: black screen, restart, then white screen with the "problem" notice. I have read all the threads and problems that people have been having, and everything points to the video card or logic board.
I have brought my computer to the Apple store twice now for this same issue, once within the three year repair window, and most recently a few months beyond that deadline. The first time I was led to believe that it was the RAM, and I replaced (and upgraded) the RAM through Crucial (their recommended RAM), and replaced the HD as well. It continued to happen, though having a child decreased my screen time and thus decreased its instances to have some of that fade in my memory. After some more heavy use, and multiple restarts during one session, I once again replaced my HD (because I hadn't learned anything apparently), and upgraded to Mavericks. 35 seconds into my first session after a day of restoring my computer, it restarted and I scheduled an appt at the Apple store.
They took my computer, ran tests on the RAM and the video card, and after about a week told me that it must be a software issue. They reset (took out and reinstalled) my new HD and my RAM, and gave a full reinstall of Mavericks. I brought it home and rebuilt my HD using Time Machine, avoiding anything system-level and bringing over only apps, music, photos and documents. And... it persisted. I have since used process of elimination, swapping out my RAM, to learn that it is indeed not the RAM... its something in this computer.
After that long story, what do you recommend for my next trip to the Apple store? Can anyone point to a good approach, or an additional point of contact, to help me get this thing fixed for free? I did bring it in within the 3-year window, they just mis-diagnosed it. They seemed to suggest that their hands were tied... I saw there was some mention of people having success outside the 3-year window and I would love to know how.
Many thanks.Anonymous UUID: XXXX

How do I keep my macbook pro from automatically rearranging my folders and PDF files on my desktop
How do I keep my macbook pro from automatically rearranging my folders and PDF files on my desktop? It seems to happen a lot after I've hooked my laptop to my Thunderbolt in my office and then I unhook my laptop to go present at a clients of taking my laptop home to work. Every once in a while if even places all of my folders and PDF files in the far upper left corner of my screen. Needless to say, having to constanly rearrange my desktop is extremly annoying and would love to know what the fix is for this problem. Thank you in advance for any help offered!
Thanks for the tip "baltwo", unfortunately my desktop settings were already set to NONE. I've had one of my IT guys here this moring helping me look through all of this and we're at a wall trying to figure out why it's doing this. This morning when I docked to the Thunderbolt all my folders and PDF files are in the upper lefthand corner stacked on top of each other almost out of view. If I go to settings, displays, and swith to mirroring, all the folders and files go right back to where they're set up on my MacBook desktop, but I lose the ability to utilize the entire screen of the Thunderbolt. Very frustrating to say the least and after searching through and reviewing several forums, Apple is very much aware of this issue and seems to be keeping silent on the issue. Hoepfully they'll launch a fix soon!
THANKS again for the tip, it's much appreciated! -
Macbook Pro restarts or freezes after Lion upgrade!
My 2007 Macbook Pro restarts (without warning-it's like losing power and get it back immediately) or freezes EVERYTIME when certain key combinations are used, e.g -b (minus then letter b, not at the same time), copy a sentence long and Ctrl-v, and some others that i am not even aware of.
This happens only after i updated to Lion! First, i thought it is because of the OS, but it crashed even in single mode with those key pressed. So, i used Apple Hardware Test, but it freezes during the test, every time
I tried resetting PRAM,SMC already. This is very weird and I have googled for all day long, hoping to find an answer for this problem but got no luck at all!
As my last attempt today, i backup data, format the hard drive and install Tiger. However, the problem persists. I am Vietnam, so take it to an apple store is not an option as we dont have any here!
Do you guys have any idea? This is driving crazy! 4 clients are chasing me :d
Thanks in advance!Did reinstalling help? If not, then consider reinstalling Lion on a newly formatted drive. Let the system reinstall using Internet Recovery instead of reinstalling from a USB flash drive. The downloaded installation will be 10.7.2.
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer. -
Why won't my 2011 MacBook Pro restart after Yosemite installation?
Why won't my 2011 MacBook Pro restart after Yosemite installation?
What symptoms are you seeing?
At what point does it get stuck?
Is it failing to Restart, or failing once it restart?
what exactly is on the screen, if anything?
Do you get the chime? the gray Apple? The spinner? black screen? gray screen? prohibitory sign? -
My MacBook Pro will automatically jump from a program (Safari, Excel, etc.) to the Finder window. Can anyone tell me how to stop this?
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
I'm a new MacBook user and my MacBook Pro is automatically saving my Excel spreadsheets as read-only Word is doing the same too. Can anyone tell me how I can set these programs so that they don't automatically save as read-only please?
Okay - went thru the process of completely removing Office and re-installing. This seems to fix the problem related to Excel. Now what should happen when Microsoft wants to install Office updates? I believe I recently installed an Office update and maybe that could have contributed to this problem. I can't be doing this everytime there is an update from MS or Apple...
Thanks for your help..

Does the battery charging in the macbook pro retina automatically cut off when the battery is fully charged? or does it continue charging? In which case,is it better for the battery life to switch off the power supply or leave it on while using the macbook?
Yes, and the pilot light on the MagSafe2 connector changes from orange to green. If you unplug, you will start draining the battery again, whereas if plugged the Mac will take power from the brick and leave the battery in a charged state.

Thank you in advance!Go to the Apple Store - it's rather difficult to solve those kind of problems on these forums as they may be hardware or software related. Apple will be able to run diagnostics not available to mere mortals.
One thing that you'll want to do before taking your machine in is to have a backup. Whether Time Machine or using one of the cloning applications (personally, I use both Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner).
Good luck,

Hello Everyone,
Im having a problem with my Macbook Pro (15 inch Mid 2010). Recently the screen has been going black and then it restarts. Im thinking its the GPU, but I can't find a good AHT to run to know for sure. OS is Mavericks (10.9.5) and Im running 8GB Memory. Below is the most recent error log it has given me, perhaps one of you all know how to read these:
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

com.apple.kec.corecrypto 1.0You have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by this recall.
The model was discontinued on February 24, 2011, so the recall has nominally ended. Some units may have been sold after that date by Apple as refurbished, or by resellers as new, and they might still be covered.
Some owners report that their unit was repaired under the program after the deadline had passed. Others report that the repair was covered by the extended warranty from a credit-card issuer. Again, your experience may vary.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired free of charge, and you don't want to pay for the service, you may (or may not) be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version.
If you're dissatisfied with Apple's response, please keep in mind that no one here represents the company or can help with customer-service issues.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
MacBook Pro restarts precisely 5 minutes after wake up, due to sleep wake failure
I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.3. When I am running on battery power, it restarts precisely 5 minutes after I open the lid and wake it up. I have no problems when connected to a power supply.
A (condensed) excerpt from the Console logs looks like this:
03/06/2014 01:16:02.000 kernel[0]: Wake reason: EHC1 OHC2
03/06/2014 21:59:21.000 kernel[0]: AirPort_Brcm43xx::powerChange: System Wake - Full Wake/ Dark Wake / Maintenance wake
03/06/2014 21:59:21.000 kernel[0]: Previous Sleep Cause: 5
03/06/2014 21:59:21.000 kernel[0]: USB (EHCI):Port 4 on bus 0x24 connected or disconnected: portSC(0x301803)
03/06/2014 21:59:21.000 kernel[0]: The USB device BRCM2046 Hub (Port 1 of Hub at 0x6000000) may have caused a wake by being disconnected
03/06/2014 21:59:21.000 kernel[0]: [IOBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport][SuspendDevice] -- Resume -- ERROR -- kUSBInformationDeviceIsSuspendedBit is set ****
03/06/2014 21:59:21.000 kernel[0]: [IOBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport][SuspendDevice] -- Resume -- Error -- SuspendDevice () returned 0xE00002C0 (kIOReturnNoDevice), GetDeviceInformation() returned 0x0000 (kIOReturnSuccess), attempting to continue...
[hundreds of lines elided]
03/06/2014 22:04:21.000 kernel[0]: Restarting to collect Sleep wake debug logs
03/06/2014 22:04:58.000 bootlog[0]: BOOT_TIME 1401829498 0
See how the wake time and the restart time (in red) are exactly 5 minutes apart?
I have tried resetting NVRAM/PRAM, and the SMC reset, to no avail. DiskUtil finds no errors. The only variable I can control which affects the problem is whether the power cable is plugged in or not.
I would like to better understand the items in blue: the code for the wake reason (EHC1 OHC2), the enumeration of possible sleep causes (Previous Sleep Cause: 5) or the "I'm now going to screw up your work" notification (Restarting to collect Sleep wake debug logs).
Finally, there are errors relating to the USB controller. I would be interested in knowing if these are related, but I don't really know how to test for that.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
My MacBook Pro restarts after it's been idle for an hour
I'm new to daily Mac use, but I think I have my settings correct. My laptop is kept plugged in at work - never runs on battery. In my Energy Saver system prefs, I have Computer Sleep and Display Sleep set to Never on both Power Adapter and Battery, all options (hard disk sleep, wake for network access, reduce brightness, start up after power failure) are unchecked. There is nothing set up in the Schedule area to turn on or off at specific times.
Every time the computer is idle for more than an hour (when I'm at lunch or in a meeting), when I come back the computer has restarted itself. Not gone to sleep, or shut down, but completely restarted.
Is there some other setting I'm missing that's making this happen? Although I try to remember to save all my work before I leave just in case, every so often I forget, and I'm getting sick of losing work (or even just losing system state and having to restart all my programs, reopen all my files, etc.)
Someone on the apple.stackexchange forum suggested checking my console log, but when I posted the results I didn't get any comments except that maybe it had overheated. But it never restarts randomly, which I would think would happen if it had overheated. It's always tied to the idle time.
Here's the console log for the most recent event; can anyone tell me what's going on?

Does your Mac go through the complete Restart cycle -- black screen, gray and/or blue screen momentarily, startup chime, etc?
If you're not sure, do a Restart just to watch the process; the next time the problem occurs, see if it's the same.
You need to know which it is, as these will have very different causes, and different places to look for a solution. -
How can i get my macbook pro to automatically login and open the server
I apologize if this question has been asked before. I am new to MAC and know almost nothing about configuring them.
I have a windows server 2003 that I am networked with. When I boot my Macbook Pro I have to manually connect to the server. How can I make my laptop do this automatically?Add it in the Users & Groups, Login Items area.

Macbook pro restarts instead of shutting down. Just picked up from genius bar!
Hello, I've just picked up my macbook pro from the genius bar, I had the airport card and dvd drive replaced and when I got home i noticed that when i press shut down the laptop restarts..any thoughts? Thanks in advance
That is certainly frustrating, take it in and find another issue. Have you tried an SMC reset to see if that helps?
If that doesn't work, I would take it back and have them see what they did wrong, if they did anything wrong, becasue it should be working right after service.
