... I got it out of the bag and it was steaming hot and the fan was blowing like out of ****. The battery had gone down about 20% points within the hour of my commute. I had to shut it down and leave it off for a while to cool down. Has anyone seen this problem before? It's so scarry weird.

I used to have that happen to my Dell PC's all the time when I used them. Since then I've made it a point to always shut my systems down (not just put them to sleep) when I put them in my backpack, and I've not had that problem since...

Thank you. I did contact Apple Norway and they already raised a case no based on which I shall go and hand over my mac pro retina 13inch. As per Apple Norway, as the case has been registered before the expiry of the warranty, Apple India to accept the warranty as well and get the set repaired under warranty. Thank you.

Macbook Pro Retina Display, a rough spot on the screen.!!!

I bought my Macbook Pro (Retina Display) from a Authorised Reseller in Malidves. Its been 3 weeks since i've bought it. Few days back i noticed a white spot on the screen. I tried to wipe the spot off with the cleaning cloth. to my surprise, the spot didn't fade. The spot was rough to touch. Any ideas what it might be???

Take it back to the reseller. Your warranty should cover that problem.

Will an Infra-Red Adapter work with a macbook pro retina display so I can use the apple TV remote for presentations?

I have always used the apple TV remote for my presentations. I bought a retina display last year for the betterment of my presentations and now I have to stand near my computer and hit a button to change my slides where as before I used my remote. Will a infra-red adapter work with the apple TV remote in the macbook pro retina display? Love my computer, but very disappointed not to have a remote for presentations that does not need the internet. Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, I used that and it works great if you have wireless connection. Im looking for a remote that worked like the apple TV remote. My questions is, "Is there a USB infra-red remote that works with mac. I have found this one: Keyspan EZ1 easy presenter. It claims with works with PC and Mac and the reviews are good. Does anyone know anything about it or if it works with retina display macs?

MacBook Pro Retina display with scratch/crack in the glass

Hi,
Can it be real, that on my new MacBook Pro Retina display I have a little scratch/crack in the glass out of the box?
You can only see it if you have light (e.g withe) background on the display.
I hope Apple Care will replace it.
Does anybody else have the same issue?

When I bought my iMac and took it home and set it up, I was cleaning the screen and noticed what looked like smears on the inside of the glass. I took a picture of it with my iphone and went back to the apple store. Of course the genuis could not see it in the brightly lit store, so I showed her the picture. I also took a little flash light with me and she was then able to see the marks. She thought they looked like fingerprints under the glass. They swapped out the iMac right there for a new one.

My MacBook pro wont wake up from sleep. The screen is blank at all times, but I can hear the fan for 5 sec then everything stops. Please help! I don't kno what to do.

My MacBook pro is about 3 yrs old. It is a 2008 model right before the new design came out. Recently I closed it up which puts it to sleep and a couple minutes later when I opened it up the screen stayed blank but could hear the fan running but then the power clicked like it was shutting down and I could hear nothing more. My power supply is working and I have already tried resetting it. Can anyone help me? I don't live exactly near a Mac store to get help.

Before resorting to an LB change-out, try this, as it has fixed many of the "silver-key" Macbook Pros with wake-from-sleep issues:
1) To get the computer running, do an SMC reset. Instructions here:

Your MBP model uses the first option under the subhead, "Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)"
2) If you get it running, go to System Preferences > Network and select your Airport connection
3) In the result main pane, click the "Advanced..." button.
4) You should be looking at a window with multiple tabs at the top; the "Airport" tab (far left) should be active---if not, make it so.
5) There is a panel showing "Prefered Networks." Use the "minus" button below that window to eliminate any networks that you don't need to access on more than a weekly basis. I'm down to two: the home Airport Extreme Base Station and the network for a museum at which I volunteer once a week.
5) Click "OK" and close System Preferences.
Now try letting it sleep and see it if wakes up.
When this happened to my Late 2007 MBP, I used Console to read system.log and found that, on waking, the compuer was looking for the wireless network at a lodge where I'd stayed weeks earlier and miles away. Clear the morass of old networks and keeping the list short has completely cured my wake-from-sleep issues.
The steps I listed take less time to do than to read, and are within the ability even of novice Mac users.
If that doesn't work, you may need to seek professional help. If you take it to an Apple Store and they recommend a logic board replacement, ask about a "Depot Repair." Instead of replacing the logic board on-site (which will whack you to the tune of US$700-1100), they send the computer to a central Apple refurb facility that fixes whatever they find wrong for a flat fee of about US$315 (last time someone reported using the service here). Turnaround is about one working week, and people who have taken of this service have reported being very pleased with the outcome.

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.

You will need a computer to "burn" the CD image onto a USB/thumb drive. I say burn, not copy, because you cannot simply copy the disk image. There are multiple Free OpenSource programs that can copy a disk image onto a thumb drive, so I will not suggest one. Burning an image, rather than copying will delete files on a thumb drive just as it would with a rewritable disk.
If it is an IMG and not an ISO image, I believe you may be able to copy it directly to a thumb drive and mount the image to install the program. You may also mount an ISO that has been copied if you have the correct program, but I would not advise it.
All of this should permitted within the license areement for the most restrictively licensed programs, so long as no copy is left on the computer used to copy the image, you keep the CD only as a backup, you are only using the copy to install a program for which you have a license, and you only install the program on one computer that you own and control.
I am not an attorney and do not work for Adobe, so you should read the license before following my advice to be sure.

But I have no confidence with apple now I am pretty sure I will end up with a second YELLOW screen just like you.I bought my mac in London, but I am right now in Singapore there is no apple store only got reseller and authorized service centre. So I can only send my mac to the authorized service centre for repair. Luckily the manager is not blind as yours but they keep telling me that this kind of obvuous yellowish screen has no problem and it is perfect within specification. So he refused to help me change again at first until I speak to a senior apple advisor through phone call( I have spoken to apple technique support for three times before I finally speak to this "useful senior guy".) The manager in the service centre agreed for a second replacement and as he said before no guarantee. I don't understand why Apple didn't draw attention to this issue. As for calibration, this is useless for my machine I have tried to adjust the color.May be I will try after I get my second replacement. Like u said every apple staff are trying to convince us this yellow screen is normal, if it was why the devices sold in store are not yellow ? They service mananger even told me that those sell in store now are the first batch of manufacturing and they are actually with defects but this yellow one are the second batch with improvement and it is better than the white on
I also take my mac to a retail apple store for comparison just like the picture shown below the left one is a normal retina display and the yellow one on the right is my poor mac.

Well there are two or three causes of eyestrain with displays different people seem to have.
1: Small type/UI elements
2: Glossy screens
3: Flicker rate

The higher pixel rate combined with the display set at the higher resolution is going to cause UI and type to be smaller and harder to see. In fact it's advised to set OS X to a lower resolouton so it upscales better to match the pixel of the higher display.
Reports coming in say watching HD 1920 x 1080 trailers on the anti-glare 17" is best as the pixel content matches the display almost fullscreen, where on the MBP-R it's upscaled and thus looks blurry.
HD content makers are NOT going to change all their video cameras to support 2880 x 1800 full screen, so in order to get a clearer image playing HD 1080 content, one will have to do so in a smaller window.

The new MBP-R dispalys are 75% less glossy, but not 100% less glossy like the anti-glare models so this can still cause some people problems. This can be lowered to under 1%, however I'm suspecting to do so would be considered giving up a military advantage to China where Apple gets it products made.

OSX 8.2 new Retina Macbook Pro won't wake from sleep.

Since upgrade to OSX 8.2 new Retina Macbook Pro won't wake from sleep. Tablet lights are on in morning and fans running like crazy, but it requires hard quit and start. Tried with no apps running, no change. It was fine before this last update. Wasn't the recent firmware update supposed to fix this issue? It seems to have started one for me.

I have the exact same problem with my Macbook Pro OS 10.8.4. What happens is: I work on the train, press cmd/alt + eject to put to sleep..pop it in my bag...get home or office... open the lid...and nothing! Battery indicator shows I have plenty of juice but it will not wake up no matter what key I press.
The only difference between use on the train and home/office is the plugging in of peripherals and mains power. It happens sparadicially, perhaps once or twice a week and I always send a 'panic report', so somewhere there will be approx 20 reports of this fault at Apple.

Here a short follow-up on this issue. I called Apple about this problem. I need to get the laptop to an ASP for display exchange. The ASP said ordering new parts and repair will take around two days. At least this is good news.
Apple would have only sent a new laptop within a 14 day grace period after delivery. As soon as your out of this time you'll only get repairs.

How do I downgrade my MacBook Pro Retina Display from Mountain Lion to Lion?

I have a brand new MacBook Pro Retina Display that came with OS X 10.8.1.
I´m an audio engineer so I work with Pro Tools, tons of plug-ins etc... Some of my software doesn't work with Mountain Lion just yet. Some of them haven't upgraded, and some of them I need to purchase a latest version, which is not cheap at all in the audio world. So I'd like to hang on to Lion for a while until I decide to upgrade everything to Mountain Lion.

This one in particular managed to make the downgrade. However, he used to have OS X 10.7.4 in his retina display when he bought it. Which is something that doesn't happen in my case.
If you read the other post you can see that several methods have been tried.
Is it really safe to completely erase my hard drive and to a clean install of Lion? Will it work perfectly fine on my Retina Display?
I went to one Apple Store, and the guy asked around and told me they haven't done it before, so since they didn't know whether it was going to work they couldn't do it. He told me to do it myself and if something happened to my laptop, "just bring it in and we'll reinstall the stock OS X again."
Since the laptop is brand new I don't mind erasing everything, all my stuff is already backed up.
So help me please?

The short of it is if it came with 10.8.1 you can't install an OS less than that.
