My macbook pro running OS X 10.8.3 freezes when I plug an adapter into the displayport, even when nothing is connected to the other (vga) end. Anyone know a solution? I have used this adapter with a macbook air and it works flawlessly, but the moment I plug into the minidisplayport the macbook pro freezes with a little spinning color wheel that goes on and on. . .
Hello there, sarhang27753.
First thing that would come to mind to resolve the issue would be SMC and PRAM resets. I've linked Knowledge Base articles below:
SMC

PRAM

Thanks for any help!To save myself another 10 minutes of typing I'll just suggest you browse this forum for posts over the past week. I know I have answered this question for an identical machine setup in the past week.
Short answer. I'd go with Snow Leopard. Lion may be possible but for a Tiger user may be too much of a jump. For my reasoning read my other posts. -
Hi. I have a MacBook Pro with OS10.6.8 and cannot get internet pages to load on my WiFi network at home. My iMac, iPhone and iPad all work on this network. It is connected to the net as dropbox registers a connection and so does skype. I can connect to the WiFi in work and on other networks when travelling. However, some other networks are now starting to fail. Can anyone suggets how I can fix it, as the MBP appears to be fine, its updated with all the latest versions of software and the WiFi network is also fine....just not with my MBP??

MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.2 and iTunes 11 freezing
I am stymied with my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.2 and iTunes 11. Every time I start iTunes, after a few seconds I get the spinning beach ball and have to force quite. I have update to the newest iTunes. Any ideas or suggestions?
Chief55m,
Have you solved your probem?
I have been unable to use iTunes for the last week.

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.3, and Safari V8.05. I want to reset Safari, but there is no reset in the Safari drop-down nor is there a reset in the Preferences - Privacy window. Any Help out there?
Hi, thanks for the response. I have searched online and many posts say to reset Safari all you have to do is click on the Safari icon, then select reset from the drop down menu, or find the reset button in the privacy window in preferences. My system has neither options. My Safari had been hijacked (frozen) by a pop-up. I cleared all history, cookies, cache, etc. with the wifi off, and it seems to have worked so far. Many posts said to reset Safari, and I don't seem to have that option.
Thanks again. -
I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop is running the network, and my wife's HP Win 7 laptop prints to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I do have the latest driver installed. I didn't have a problem when I had a Canon Pixma on the network, but when I replaced it with the Epson nothing seems to work. I go to add a printer to the queue and only the FAX function of the printer shows up - not the WS-4530 print function. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Please??? :-)
Hi Kelly,
As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

How do I use my Time Capsule to back up my wife's MacBook Pro running 10.4.
I just installed a Time Capsule. I've extended the range with two Airport Expresses. I've connected my MacBook running 10.6.3 to the wireless network. I've connected my wife's MacBook Pro running 10.4.11 to it. I've connected my wife's 3G iPhone to it and my first gen iPhone to it and our Apple TV to it. All devices can connect to the internet. I've connected the Time Capsule to the printer and printed wirelessly from both computers.
I've backed up my MacBook and seen that the Time Machine is backing up my MacBook as it should.
How do use the Time Capsule to back up my wife's MacBook Pro running 10.4.11? I've tried connecting them via ethernet cable and via USB cable. In both cases the Time Capsule failed to show up as an external drive and wasn't seen by the 10.4.11 back up utility.
How do people do this? (Other than convincing their wives to let them upgrade their MacBook Pro to 10.6.3?)James Elliott1 wrote:

That really is your best option. Sooner or later, you're going to have a problem with the "other" data on your Time Capsule, since the backups of your Mac will, eventually, fill up all the available empty space. That will, of course, limit the space available for the other backups.
There's a very cumbersome workaround in the blue box of #Q3 of the Using TIME MACHINE with a TIME CAPSULE *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
Another is to connect a USB drive to the Time Capsule, partition it if desired, and back up one Mac to it and the other to the TC's internal drive. -

How do I install Xcode on a MacBook Pro running 10.7.9 (Lion?)
I am a retired chap trying to help my grandson get into robotics. He wants to be able to write code to control an Arduino which in turn will control a number of solenoids. I used to design and build hardware and write control software (using Delphi O.O.) for space research equipment. I have MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.9 and have access to an iMAC running OS X 10.6.8
We want to use C++ (unless anyone can tell us why this might be a bad move) and I have been told I need to install XCode. I looked into it and as far as I can glean, I have to install XCode 4 to be compatible with my MacBook. I downloaded XCode 4.6.2 and ended up with two files, namely :
xcode4620419895a.dmg
xcode4620419895a.dmg.part
and now I am stuck. Firstly, was that the correct version to download? If it is, how do I actually install the development environment from those two files? If I try to execute the disk image it tells me it is unrecognisable. If I try to execute the *.part document it asks me what application I should open it with. Any help/advice will be much appreciatedSorry it took me a while to come back. Anyway, I cleared out the old Xcode files and went into the Developers Download area and selected to download 4.6.3 and was presented with this window
I clicked on Savefile and it downloaded. I was intrigued as to why this would work as it was exactly what I had done before. Out of interest I decided to issue the download again and this time it created a zero byte disk image and a "part" file of 1.6mB. I shall just have to put that behind me (accepting that I don't understand why one download should work and all the precious attempts should fail) and move on.
Thank you for your help (it was my eyesight that caused me to think my OS version was 10.7.9 - it is indeed 10.7.5) -
I have an early 2008 and mid 2010 13 inch macbook pro running iTunes 10.7. Itunes on both machines doesn't recognize blank cds or allow me to import from a music cd when I insert it.
iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one. -
Mid-2010 Macbook Pro running very hot
Hi all,
My mid-2010 Macbook pro is running very hot. On average CPU is 61-70 degrees Celsius, sometimes even more. I'm pretty bad at having lots of chrome tabs open and heavy multitasking, but even when I'm not temperature still ends up very high and fan rpm can get to over 6000. Heat seems to be concentrated to the lefthand side of the touchpad (battery area?). I'm running 10.9.3.
Current stats below from iStat pro widget (smcFanControl concurs with these temps), with only the following pic's activity running. Laptop currently balanced on two books (so airflow around the sides) which are in turn on my lap.
I have tried reseting the SMC with the shift-control-option-power method but it doesn't seem to have worked - instructions said to press and hold this, then release, then press power again to boot, but laptop boots up from this combination anyway.
Am I just doing something wrong or will this be an expensive trip to the apple store to fix?Hey happyhaskins,
If you are having an issue with your MacBook Pro running excessively hot, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
